[Q] Will US Bought 7105 work in UK? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm going to be in the US early Jan, and was looking at buying the GT-7105 LTE Note 2 from there, SIM Free.
But, I need to know for sure that if I do that, then it'll work with a 4G SIM from EE in the UK. EE currently is offering SIM only 12 month deals.
If someone can confirm this, then it'll be a great help.

If it's actually an N7105, and not a US carrier-branded model, it'll be fine, but I can't imagine you could get one cheaper than in the UK - the N7105 isn't sold at US retail (T-Mobile, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint & friends all have their own variants that would not suit your needs, and in the case of the latter two, would not work at all).

Hmm, that's what I was worrying about.
In the past, I've generally managed to get electronic items much cheaper in the US, and I keep travelling there.
But, I guess in this case, there's too much grey, and I might end up with a costly device that may not work in the UK ..
I want to get my hands on the Note II LTE (7105) but it's priced ridiculous here in the UK, and so are the EE plans ..
So, I was thinking of buying the phone SIM free, and then taking the 12 month SIM only from EE

the N7105 was on a special discount with EE this weekend, so no doubt it will be again.
The Note2 has fallen surprisingly quickly from its introductory price. I think the Note1 was an unexpected success so Samsung didn't make large numbers of them so supply wasn't so strong, but they had more confidence in the Note2 being popular and there's more stock and more competition in the marketplace.

Damn, missed that offer. What was the discounted offer from EE?

The 7105 was (evidently) sold at 20% discount for a couple of days before xmas along with all payg phones at EE stores at £409 originally £509 BUT... its sketchy info & the majority of stores said they didn't have it on offer.
The 7105 has the UK LTE bands & although is not a USA phone theres no probs buying it in USA for UK use, also its available online at £445 +post from Negrielectronics (a company based in USA) & they post to UK.
There's also currently a ebay seller in USA selling 7105 & posts to UK.
Not sure if the saving is worth the risk of not getting service of a "grey" import though if it developed a fault.
I found the link for nergri ...
http://negrielectronics.com/samsung...-16gb-unlocked-marble-white.html#.UOKxPP4YZaF

I bought the N7105 from ee on pay then gave the sim to a friend and unlocked the phone to use with three so no reason you couldn't buy on payg and give sim away and get sim only contract.
I've found three speeds are pretty similar to ee in 4G areas so prefer the better bundles of data they offer.

Bell/Virgin taking pre-orders

I know BB and Futureshop are taking pre-orders today, but so are Bell and Virgin. So I decided to call in and pre-order since it wouldn't let me pre-order with no-term.
Well it turns out I was eligible for some data-discount. I expected to pay the full $649, but am only paying $235! Pre-ordered, shipped to my house. Lovely! Now, I wait.
I see where Bell and Virgin Mobile are selling the GN off contract at $650.00 Canadian (approx $628.00 US, using yahoo currency conversion) for shipping around Dec 7. I could not find the GN on the other 2 sources that you mentioned.
Depending what happens here in the US in the near future, this may be an option for me, instead of ordering from Europe.

How long did you have left on your contract? I have about 18 months left on a 3 year contract and was looking at getting a galaxy nexus at full price from handtec but if i can get it for a discounted price from bell i would rather do that.

I upgraded to a Moto Atrix the day of their release and I've been sitting since this. So I'd say I've got atleast 30 months left on my contract. She said something about giving me a discount based on my Data plan (I have 6gb for $30).

originally 1800 667 0123! I went through some menu stuff.
And yes, BB and Futureshop are both taking pre-orders with $50 down, but Bell is doing it free of charge, and the amount goes on your next bill.
I just called and i would have to pay full price, i'll keep my pre order with handtec i guess.
I just talked to Bell. The GN is 159.99 on a 3 year.
So could American's pre-order from one of the Canadian carriers/retailers and use the phone on ATT/T-Mobile? The Canadian version is the same GSM/HSPA version as in the UK, correct?

This what I am considering. I am on Tmobile in the US who will likely not sell this phone, so this seems like a good option for me. I am going to wait until we get closer to Dec 8 before making a decision. A lot could happen here in the US by then.
I went to my local Bell store today on my lunch break with the intention of dumping Rogers to become a Bell customer and pre-order the Nexus. Well, they didn't even realize it was officially up for pre-order today. They said I could go online and enter my email address to get notified for more info (which is what the Bell site had until today).
Then they said they could write down my name and call me if they got some in stock. I said I was hoping to actually sign up with Bell and reserve a phone, but they wouldn't even sell me a SIM card without a contract and come back for the phone later. I was completely willing to become a Bell customer, but they didn't seem interested.
I should note that we deal with this Bell store at my work and they are not known for being too bright, so I honestly wasn't expecting much. One of them was a kid who seemed to think he was in charge, and the other was a woman who was indifferent and apathetic to the point of frustration. I'll call or go to a better store, but I thought I'd share this ridiculous experience

I think Bell might be the GSM one as well, as per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bell_Mobility
But then again it's Wiki, I don't have any knowledge on Canadian carriers.
Rogers is also going to get it, not sure if that one is going to be GSM as well. People in those networks, can anyone answer please?

The only model Canada will be getting is the GSM/HSPA+ model.
The only other Galaxy Nexus model is the Verizon-specific one. Verizon gets that one and everyone else in the world (including Canada, all carriers) gets the petaband GSM/HSPA+ one.
Anyone know if Bell or Virgin are letting people pre-order on Pay as you Go plans?
So who is selling this unlocked? I want to pre-order an unlocked version today. Looks like Bell is only letting you go with a 3 year contract. Virgin /w contract too.
Futureshop: "The Galaxy Nexus is available at launch through all Future Shop stores on the Bell and Virgin networks." What does this mean?

There are options on both the Bell and Virgin Mobile web sites that show the Galaxy Nexus for about $650.00 (Canadian) off contract. They also show options to pre order.

I guess I'm not seeing it... on both. I'm in BC. Does this option not exist. Just spent a good 5 minutes on each site trying to figure this out, but still don't see an option for an unlocked version.
EDIT: Just got off with Bell support and said they are *NOT* selling an unlocked version of the Galaxy Nexus.

Worth it to wait and see if HSPA+ version drops in the US?

Is it worth it to wait and see if the GN drops in the US? Right now I can get one from Handtec for ~$696, but if it dropped here would it really be priced any cheaper? It's set to be Canadian$650 (~$636 in American monies), would it be priced maybe around $600 if it's released here? Maybe even less?
Or, is the HSPA+ version even going to come out stateside? All I've been hearing about is the CDMA/LTE version.
Insight?
Canadian version is only US$ 636???
if that is true I will definitely buy one!

I debated this for a long long time. Then my N1 had it's usual set of daily hiccups, and I had it. So I bought one. It's a great gadget, and almost worth the $700 I paid.
But, if you're okay with your current phone, stick it out and wait. It won't go up in price.
Early adopters never get rewarded. Only screwed with headaches.

If you go to Canada and buy it outright you're going to be paying local taxes in the 10%-15% range, and either paying to convert your USD or pay a foreign transaction fee on your credit card... and you're still gonna pay $700 out the door, just like ordering from the UK importers.
If/when it does come to the US unlocked I'd expect it in the $550 range. Just depends how much you wanna pay to get it now.

$550!? I sure hope so!
Sometime last week, an AT&T version passed through the FCC, with HSPA+. Just about a month or so ago, AT&T was asking customers (on twitter, I believe) who would be interested in the device on their network. Seems like they listened.

Would it still be the same penta-band GN? If it's just AT&T bands that also doesn't help me.

The FCC only has to worry about the bands that will be used in the states, which is 850/1900. No reason why they'd make a specific version with a quadband radio to only work on AT&T and not T-mobile. Its more expensive than just using the current pentaband version that's available and putting an AT&T battery cover on it.
I'll give it two weeks. If it doesn't come to the US in a T-Mobile friendly version I'm getting myself one for the holidays from across the pond.
Didnt the GSM pentaband version get approved by the FCC a week before the Verizon LTE version?

As the article says, just because it works on bands here and is passed through the FCC doesn't mean it will be sold here. Any phone that could be used on a carrier here needs to pass the FCC. The i9250 is the version being sold overseas right now.
Buy from UK
I think if you cant wait, you should get it from handtec or clove. they ship to usa and their prices dont include taxes for shipping to usa (i think, from what i have read and seen). the price is £445 including shipping, which is less than 700 usd.
i dont think it would release in usa for less than 649 (the same as the iphone 4s 16gb), then u have taxes etc.
plus who knows when is the unlocked version releasing.
Why can't Google just sell it like they did with the N1?

Because from pretty much every angle, the Nexus One sales tactic was a failure. They partnered with Verizon this time to get bigger sales and exposure, and because of that we're not seeing it sold unlocked unfortunately.

Actually, two different GSM versions have passed through the FCC - the pentaband international version, and a version with only AT&T HSPA+ bands, see here: http://www.slashgear.com/galaxy-nexus-visits-fcc-again-but-with-att-bands-02199735/

Where to buy?

So after almos 2 years im looking to change my htc incredible, because it feels old and slow compared with recent phones, and my carrier is offering both CMDA and GSM (i feel more comfortable with gsm) and i've always been a fan of qwerty phones, and seeing that HTC isnt going to release an android qwerty phone anytime soon, i checked the specs of the captivate glide and realise that its is really impressive better than the droid 3, cheaper than the droid 4.
im almost convinced to buy it, but before that i would like to clarify two things, one i really would like advice from regular and power users here at xda pros and cons, if it is worth it, or if should i save some extra money to buy the droid 4 (hate motoblur and there's no networks offering LTE on my country.) and the other thing is if anyone knows a reliable place where i can buy it online im from mexico, i have no problems with an glide with the at&t brand, but i've also read that the "rogers" glide doesnt have any brand. but i really dont know where to buy it.
i checked this site (www.negrielectronics.com)and they have it listed but i dont know if its realiable.
any help would be apreciated.
There's one for sale in the Marketplace here on XDA, I believe. You could start there. I upgraded from a T-Mobile G2 and haven't looked back since. The more we get out there, the better. CarpeNoctem has put out a great little ROM for it (OsiMood) and that paired with the Cranium Kernel and Go Launcher has really got me going! I can't make an honest recommendation comparing to Droids, as my only experience with them has been futzing with one of my client's original Droid and his new Droid3, haven't really gotten any regular use time with them...
One further thing, I would check which CDMA and GSM bands your carrier is offering, I believe if I recall correctly that the i927 does not support T-Mobile's 3G band, so you'd be stuck with EDGE for 3G, which is significantly slower...
Good luck, and I hope you love your new phone as much as I love mine
L4T
I think its better than Droid 3..
Haven't tried Droid 4..
If facebranding is not a problem, you can go for at&t model as you can get it cheaper than Rogers..
One of my friend had got a phone through Negri electronics.. So far it is the only site I have come across which ships to almost all the countries..
Also try Ebay.. I got mine for 400$ in an auction.. + additional shipping, duty and unlocking charges..

Sorry, meant to say something about this in my above post - Negri spams the hell out of Craigslist, at least local to me, I wouldn't buy from them for just this reason. If you can't find one here on the XDA Marketplace, I recommend Swappa or Amazon (though you'd probably end up paying more at either of those)

thanx for the answers, yeah i said negri becasue its ships everywhere but i trust more on amazon but the thing with amazon its that they dont ship electronics oustide the US (or at least cellphones).
Regarding the bands used by my carrier, AFAIK all carriers in mexico use 850 for GSM and hdspa+ with the exception of one that besides 850 they also use 1900 and if remember correctly both frequencies are available on the glide.
and i would like to know how does the phone feels, average battery life, etc, im really interested in buying one..

The phone feels great in my hands, just the perfect size and I have a SGS II which feels too big in comparison, it is comfortable with the keyboard slides out as well. The battery life is the best I've encountered of any android phone so far.
Any other suggestion?
I tried:

mobicity (unlocked, out of stock for now)
canadagsm.com (unlocked)
amazon (locked)
ebay (locked and unlocked, but a bit expensive)

Negrielectronics wrote me that they can't estimate the backorder time and they invited me to check their website daily. does it mean that the backorder waiting time has been going on for (at least) one month?
Thats right, ive been checking negri almost every day for about a month and they havent re stock it. To bad cuz i really would like yo buy a captivate glide.

Too bad.
Just to add: rogers.com sells this phone, by the name of Samsung Galaxy S Glide.
Still need to be unlocked, but rogers.com should be more trustworthy than canadagsm.
I also wrote an email to canadagsm, just to ask a couple of questions. Waiting
Update:
canadagsm.ca deals only with unlocked phones. That's great.
Still i don't know if it is a trustworthy supplier or not. Their prices are beaten only by negrielectronics, so they're quite good.
But i don't know if I can trust them. Anyway, they accept Paypal.

I'm from Italy.
I'll have it shipped to an import/export company that is located in Florida. They'll ship it to me.
Their name is consegnato.com and they offer the service for Italy (shipping and enregistering under europen laws).
Well I got the phone, really liking the build quality and performance, which is no different to a Galaxy S II
Now the challenging part, it's asking for a network code. I bought this unlocked and was not expecting this. I've contacted Amazon Wireless, lets see what they say.
I've had the same problems as you guys, www.negrielectronics.com, it's in fact a reliable site, but they are, like you said before, out of stock, www.canadagsm.com, in fact, have the Galaxy S Glide, Unlocked, tried to order, but have some problems, because, like sbiricuda, I've send my phones to a Courrier in Florida, that send the package to Chile, from where my partner picks it up, and bring it to Argentina for me. And, the guys over www.canadagsm.com, told me that they only send to the same address of your PayPal account, so, I just couldn't close the deal.
Ended up buying it to cellularworld2008 on www.ebay.ca.
Amazon Wireless rep. replied, they said I can return the phone for a full refund or call AT&T to get the unlock code. Looks like I'll have to unlock it myself!
Amazon Wireless has now changed "Unlocked" to "Upgrade" when you buy that phone full price.
*sigh*
I bought a Locked phone, so I was aware that I have to unlock it after reception when I did it.
I know that it is annoying but I suggest to get an unlock code from americanunlocker or cellunlocker. It looks cheaper than sending the phone back or calling AT&T from your country. If you do, please share your experience with them!

International model or AT&T LTE?

Looking at both. Which ones are you looking at.. be getting it out of contract. So that's a wash. Just thinking about if I really need a quad core phone.... anyone know is the rogers one LTE?

International
+ Teg3 is better in some benchmarks than S4
+ Teg3 will be better at gaming
+ No AT&T bloatware
+ Updates directly from HTC
+ You can use cheap HSPA plans
+ 32GB of storage vs. 16GB
- Teg3 battery life isn't so hot in all but at idle state where it wins
- Warranty work done by HTC so you'll be w/o a phone if you need service
- No ADH available except through SquareTrade
- No LTE if you care
And yes, Rogers and AT&T are both essentially the same phone which is the One XL.
Thanks for that... that was very helpful.. I think it comes to LTE for me... but I definitely like the 32gb and no bloatware and ability to tether internet connection on the international one.
you can also factor in the fact the international is now 619.99 with free shipping and ATT will charge 650 + tax.

Here's a helpful hint on buying an international version. Order it from Clove or Handtec in the UK. Expansys-USA is shipping Malaysian versions as may some others based in the U.S. like Negri. You want a UK/EU model. My Handtec phone arrived overnight whereas even with express shipping you're lucky to get your phone in the same week from Expansys.

what's wrong with Malaysia model? i saw something about someone having problems on T-Mo, but i'm on ATT. if it's about HTC updates, i plan on using roms from here and hopefully AOSP/AOKP soon.

Several KEY Qs about which SM-Pxxx to buy...

currently saving up.. if fate allows i plan on getting a SGN 10.1-2014ed to replace my twice dying Kocaso M870.
over the past 3 months ive done quite a bit of research through mags and android sites claiming this to be the best tablet around especially in terms of functionality.
several minor reviews and 2 hour long reviews posted on youtube with the earlier information has convinced me this is the direction i want to go.
im a gamer.. artist.. and one heck of a multi tasker that hopes to become a dedicated streamer in the future... this tab will help with all these things.
my key issues is what model of the SM-Pxxx series to get...
Firstly.. im located in the US.. and will only buy from certified reliable retailers.
this means amazon and ebvay and thier china hackware and voided warrentys are totally out of the question.
Im as of current.. stuck with best buy and thier 50$ off sale of the SM-P600 32gb-black..
16gb is a joke being the OS itself takes up 8 gigs...
i looked into the 64gb version.. but simply put.. it dont exsist.
3g.. and lte versions.. dont exsist.
before being flamed.. please hear me out.
according to samsung.. LTE ONLY comes in 32 and 64gbs models.. yet ALL the amazon LTE models are 16gb..
even the description on the amazon sales page STATES the device has been opened and modified.
and most importantly.. youtube videos of the so called LTE versions are A) all in german..
B) ALL have thier "unboxing" comming from an unsealed box... C) all having 16 gb-wifi listed on the front of the box AND the screen protector.. D) the screen protector has NO mention of 3G or LTE while the back of the box mentions LTE at the side of the list.
simply put.. these LTE versions are NOT the real deal. its a china sweatshop gettingthe cheapest 16gb model.. cracking the tablet open.. thus voiding its warrenty.. and adding a LTE antenna from some cheap cellphone... so they can sell a 550$ tablet for 800$... huge profit.
And its a mess i intend to avoid.
And from what ive seen.. the 3G model has only recently been leaked that vorizon will be its carrier.. and any "news" of the LTE version.. or the release date for EITHER version is simply non exsistant through official channels.
all this in mind..
Doi keep saving for the SM-P600 and be happy wiht a legit tablet..
Do i wait and hope that the 601 or 605 release in the near future before this dying tablet stops booting up...
and if i wait.. being i cant afford the cell phone bill as i never call ANYONE.. what would the 601-605 offer me that the 600 series dont already offer save a slightly faster processor?

This might be simpler than you think. The only device authorized to be sold by Samsung in the U.S. is the P-600. Anyone selling a P-601/5 has imported it and it comes with no warranty from Samsung as it's considered grey market. I have a P-601 I got from Negri and it's from Trinidad. Knowing it has no warranty I insured it through SquareTrade. That's an option for you too if you buy from someone like Expansys, Negri, or NewEgg. You can get SquareTrade on eBay items too if you do it at check-out. But if you're looking for warranty support from Samsung your only choice is buying a P-600 from an authorized Samsung reseller. VZW's releasing their version of the P-605 (LTE) soon but it'll cost you an arm and a leg. If you weren't aware, the imported P-605's don't support the U.S. LTE bands so you'll be stuck using HSPA. And both it and the P-601 work fine on AT&T but only work on T-Mobile in markets they've re-farmed to 1,900MHz. I get about 5-8MB download speeds using my P-601 on AT&T.
I have the Verizon 4G LTE model SM-P605V. Thinking that it will make phone calls, turns out it doesn't. LTE is fast however, just pop a 4G sim card in.

The P605 does exist in 16gb. It can be purchased in a number of reputable chain stores both here in new Zealand and also in Australia. It's likely an Asia Pacific only model though as we are part of that region.
