Any way to fix the t9 dialer on cm10? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I know that now it searches through nicknames and company also which I like. However, ever since stable release, if I don't have a photo associated with the contact it will look for the closest matching contact that does have a picture and display that contact first. It does this even when the contact doesn't match at all (neither name, company, or nickname matches)

I do not have a problem with this. Also word of advice blur the phone numbers in the picture. In don't think your contacts would appreciate their phone numbers showing up in a forum.

[REQUEST] Full Screen Caller ID

Are there any apps/mod around that stretches the contact picture to fit the screen during an incoming/outgoing call? It is available in the X10, but not anymore in the Arc.
I've seen many apps that stretches the contact pictures, but they require reapplying of my contact pictures, and uses their caller instead of the stock. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
Search "Smart Caller Id" in the market. Itz free and compatible with Arc.
Thanks, but it's not really what I am looking for. After accepting outgoing/incoming calls, it goes back to the small contact picture. Also, I prefer the stock sliders.
Basically, what I am looking for is something that ONLY stretches the contact picture like in the X10, instead of the small square we are having now.
just wait until ICS releases for the xperia lineup, it'll have full resolution contact photos including the ones from Facebook integration.
Simply create a copy of your contact and associate then with the phone itself instead of any other account, then store the image you want for them in that contact.
Hope this helps as it works for me in .58 ROM
Full Screen Caller ID from the market. Its like $4 but it works like a charm

Go to facebook, go to the profiles, save the pictures one by one, transfer all of them to the SD, unmount, go to contacts app, asociate each photo with each contact, one by one. That what he said.

From my point of vie to have the full picture in dialler has to have something mod on the dialler itself. If i try to allocate a picture, no matter from where, sd card, facebook, the dialler shows only what it has in the programming language, i mean only half of the display. Dispite of this all other diallers like full screen caller id or else has his own programmed dialler to support in it. Not to include in stock dialler.
For short: somebody could modify the stock dialler or framework or else in order to have stock dialler showing full picture on dial someone or receive a call??
Hope i am not wrong.

[Q] Dialer not searching ??

Just got myself a GN and I was a bit disappointed with the dialer.
With my old phone I could just spelling the name of a contact and the dialer would list contacts.
GN just puts in the numbers no direct search ??
Is it some option or something I am missing or do I need another dialer??
Love the feel of it just wish I did not have to go to contacts to find a number...
The stock dialer does not support T9 Smart dial. Either use another dialer, or use the google search bar to search for the contact you want to call.
Or spend a minute amount effort and tap the search icon in the bottom left of the dialer then start typing the name. It's not really much time wasted...

I also wish the T9 dialer was built into stock Android as it is with HTC Sense, Touchwiz and MIUI.
If you would like Google to change this, star the following threads in the Android issue tracker:
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...t9&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars
http://code.google.com/p/android/is...t9&colspec=ID Type Status Owner Summary Stars

While it may not be much more effort, it is quite clear that this feature is available in other stock dialers, then why not in google's own?
I also store my contacts on the sim card and if anyone has noticed, then you cannot import all contacts into phone at once. You have to manually go through all contacts which again is a sore point.
I think that is a valid point to expect in the dialer, not whether searching seperately is an option or not!

Why not synchronise your contacts with google, so if you:
1. lose your phone.
2. Phone gets broken
3. Somebody steals it
it only takes 2 minutes before you have all your contacts again.
There are a lot of Contacts apps around on the market, and i bet even 1 of them supports transferring your sim contacts to the phone.
Earlier i used GO Contacts, but they don't support ICS yet. So for now im using DW Contacts (looks ok, only used it for an hour though).

Yes and accepted, but that behaviour has been standard all along. Rather than make me select one contact at a time from my hundred contacts, that one simple click would have been better. Anyways I prefer not to upload contacts into the cloud because
1. I may not have the consent of some of the ppl that I hold details for, e.g. bosses and they may not prefer it and
2. I personally do not know who or how this data is used/accessed in which case I would rather not. And personally judging by Google's appetite for gathering our personal data, I would rather opt out. Its just me....
Sorry OP to have hijacked your thread..
Correction - User error Apologies, I have just read the manual and it does allow for an 'import all' option to copy all contacts from SIM to phone.
To bad wish they would put that in its a very nice feature I seen no reason to be left out.
Anyone know a good dialer to use instead ?? Would love one with the same look if possible ???
Perhaps it is some sort of lawsuit infringement that prohibits them to build it into the dialer. I don't think Apple has this either, right? Maybe Microsoft has the patent on it.
3rd party dialers have this feature. In fact, I just install the MIUI dialer because it is just awesome. It is in the market and not listed under "MIUI Dialer" but "e9" or something. It works great.

exDialer

I know from gingerbread that 3rd party apps can't clear unanswered calls. Some if the apps solves that by using the stock dialer list when selecting the notification.
Anyway its limitations in the OS and not the apps.

Contact Display Image Problem

Using AOKP and every time I wipe/flash a new build...all my contact pictures are blurred and low quality. I have to edit the contact and reselect the image for it to display the way it should.
ideas?
thanks
That's not a problem, That's because google contacts, where contacts info is stored, does not support high res images...
Dont ask why...
Edit: more accurate answer here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1411960
Yeah, its better to use HaxSync if you have a fb account instead.

Samsung's phone contact management sucks!

Been a long time user of HTC devices. Sense phone and contact management seems much better than Samsung's stupid setup.
I seriously cannot stand how the system manages contacts on this Galaxy Note 2.
On the HTC, in dialer... I can use smart dial by spelling the name out. I can also click into the profile and call secondary phone numbers. But on this Samsung device, smart dial only shows the phone number, I can't go into the contact profile easily. I can only dial the main number.
Also, in the Samung contacts, it displays multiple duplicates of several contacts that I have. One HTC devices, it would automatically group these duplicates together so I can't have multiple useless contacts in the phone book.
Any alternatives to fix this issue?
Yeah, return the Note and get the Evo LTE or a DNA.
There are differences to each UI. Thats why they are named different. Sense vs TW. I personally like TW better then Sense in almost every aspect.
As for a fix to duplicate contacts, log into google.com/dashboard and clean up duplicates that way.

if it were me i would try that from here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2033894
or just use go contacts or something like that although i haven't tried it in a while
This is my first non-htc phone since 2004 and I'm finding several things that are taking a while getting used to in addition to the contacts. The lack of proper text wrapping and clunky scrolling are other examples. This phone is awesome so I'm sure I'll look past these things. It makes you appreciate the little details that HTC got right all these years though.

From the Note 2 dialer you can search by name from the <Contacts> tab. If by smart dial you mean contacts widget, you most certainly can dial alternate numbers. You touch the contact you want, which brings up the primary number and then touch the space above the primary number to access alternate numbers. I've had 6 HTC phones myself from the original Touch to the EVO LTE and find the differences insignificant as far as contacts are concerned. I also had duplicates in HTC phones as well, but linking the contacts solved that problem. With the Note 2 you can eliminate duplicates by joining them. But I also avoid duplicates by only syncing with my primary Google email account.
I too did not like the dialer coming from the EVO.
I put EXDialer on it for the dialer and contacts, and havent looked back since.
Use that as the default action and you're all set.
Try it and you won't be disappointed.

Personally, I much prefer the camera on the Note 2 than the EVO LTE. Both cameras are good, but there are more options available on the Note 2 to assist in better photos.
I was with Galaxy before this new HTC.
aggred
I too switched from HTC to Samsung. Samsung dialer blows - At least on my Note 3.
Here is an example of the Dialer problem.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v29crpAAEfQ
It is actually worse than the video in that it often defaults to "other." Now I must second or third tap on the screen to open the contact and select the appropriate number. On my EVO LTE, the contacts related to my entry were presented above the dial pad, where I could quickly see my choices without the need for extra taps and searching. One other thing worth mentioning, the call log and dial pad were on the same screen for quick redials to recent numbers - not so on Samsung.
I tried EXDialer but prefer Go Contacts Ex. both are a remedy to the not so smart Samsung dialer.

[Q] Searching contact at Messaging and phone apps

Does anyone encounter below problem at messaging app (SMS) and searching contact in phone book?
In the past (ICS), I simply wrote first few words of recipients' name, it will show contacts that match those words.
But in JB, I cannot find the contact by the same way as in ICS. I have to type first few digits of recipients' phone no. instead of name.
If I have 1000+ contacts in my phone book, how can I remember 1000+ phone no.
Mine is Arco S at latest .96 JB firmware

Thanks.
Does 4.2 or 4.3 JB still have the same issue? Or this issue is just happened in Sony phone?
On the dialler app just type the name and it lists them at the top??
Or at least it does on my phone.
eg for someone named abcde, if you type 11122 then that would be listed.
Or if in the contacts list just tap the magnifying glass and then start typing.
As for the sms I can't answer that as i don't have the stock sms app installed on my phone at the moment.
