Wondering if anyone can help me. I downloaded a rom, gapps, and a kernel from an AOKP nightly thread. The current ROM loaded says "Unfortunately, the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped" as well as "Unfortunately, Setup Wizard has stopped". I did the usual, backup in titanium, then backup in clockwordmod, wipe data, wipe cache, flashed the ROM, gapps and kernel. After the boot screen, it displays the two messages listed above.
Normally, I'd be able to restore one of my backups, but those disappeared after I wiped/reflashed a second time (all the other files/.zips that were on the phone are gone too). So I can't restore any backups, reflash any ROMs, or get past the two message screens to download anything else. On top of that, when I connect my phone to my laptop to dump some files on it that way, I get "USB device not recognized. One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it."
I've done this process about 15 times, so I'm not sure why I didn't do it correctly, the only thing different is I flashed a nightly instead of a milestone, and a different kernel. This is the first time I haven't been able to restore anything. If anyone could point out what I did wrong, or more importantly how I can go about at least having something so I can restore my Titanium Backup, I'd greatly appreciate it! Thanks

its probably the gapps that you flashed. did you wipe your sd card too? if not, all your files will be in/data/media/0

I'm beginning to think I did, I don't even have a media folder anymore. Just 0/, /legacy, and /obb. The 0/ folders has some subfolders like alarms, download, music, movies, etc., but they're all empty. If I did wipe my SD card, how can I flash something new if I can't do it via the phone? My PC isn't recognizing my phone as a USB device either. Thanks for the help

hi, i need help restoring my backup in cwm 3.0.2.8.
The system partition restores fine but none of my apps or anything get restored. I've tried different versions of cwm and none of them have worked. I know i can just restore my apps with my backup or titanium but i shouldnt have to and i forgot to before i made the backup.
It doesnt even restore any if my contacts, texts, etc. It seems like its just restoring the rom with what ever mods and tweaks i had applied. This has happened with multiple roms so i reckon its a fault with cwm. Also when restoring just the data in cwm it doesnt say "Restore complete!"
Anybody got any suggestions?
Anybody got any suggestions?
How are you restoring your ROMs?
Your contacts should be backed up with your Google account.
They are backed up but cwm should restore everything. After i restore it asks me to login to my google account, select my time-zone, etc.
Im restoring from recovery.
It seems like cwm is crashing while restoring my data partition because the screen goes black whilst still showing the rom manager icon and it goes back to the inital screen of recovery like i just booted into it.
Have you checked your SDcard for errors?
There are hundreds of people who use ClockworkMod Recovery without issue. (excusing 3.0.2.5)
Could be something as simple as a couple of bad sectors on your card.
I recently formatted it before i made the backup, how would i check for any more errors?
Try HERE. Its in Russian. So you'd need to visit via Google or use Chrome.
I downloaded but i dont have a clue how to use it
Read through the manual.
Or you could follow this guide HERE, I'm pretty certain that the first tool would be more accurate.
I tried the russian one but i got access denied so im doing the windows method. If none of this works, is there a way to manually extract the files from the .img file? I mainly want the data from my apps because i hav around 300
How are you connecting your SDcard to your computer? I just ran a test using ,
Code:
flashnul G: -T
It worked fine, that was connected via USB cable with the card mounted as a drive.
No problems which I'm pretty pleased with, now just to transfer my data back.
I forgot to run CMD as admin, its running now
EDIT: I didnt get any errors
If the SDcard is fine. Then I'd reflash CWM Recovery.
I have. The only reason I flashed .2.8 was because of this problem. I have to send my phone to HTC on monday for repair so when I get I back (20 days later) Il start again from fresh. For now I'm gonna unroot and s-on etc etc... I hate sense.
Thanks a million for your help though!
Question: If HTC swap my phone with another, will my backup still work with the new one?
Off topic, I point blank refused to wait 21 days + for a repair. After some wrangling got an exchange. Sadly the exchange handset had severe case misalignment issues. Refused that also.
Yes your backup will still work. It doesn't matter what handset you use. The backup isn't tied to it.
Haha the speaker for calls doesn't work anymore so i hav to send it back. 20 days is gnna seem like forever lol. I'm gnna hav to look for my Nokia 3310. It's like 10 years old and its never failed me once.
As for my back up, when I do get my phone back i need to go through my apps and delete what I don't want.....or I could buy a bigger mem card and setup A2SD. Is there no way to browse inside the data.img file from the backup?
Hello all. So this morning i was looking to flash to Blaze4G modem that Master&Slave has so kindly uploaded for us, and after backing up and wiping cache, i proceeded to flash the modem.
after booting up i had no 4G connection, and trying to mess with APN's resulted in "no data connection" error. I know i've seen this same error over in the developers thread for the Blaze modem, but don't know what i did wrong. some careful combing and reading of the thread should give me solution to the aforementioned problem, HOWEVER this is not the issue i am posting about.
After the failure of the modem, i attempted to restore my nandroid backup via CWM recovery and after a notice "no files found", it proceeded to restore my listed recovery anyways. Upon finishing the recovery and booting up, i was presented with the very same screen that you get when you turn the phone on or flash a new rom the first time, asking me to sign in to my google account, along with an error "SYSTEM UIDs INCONSISTENT" along with an error message that reads "UIDs on the system are inconsistent, you need to wipe your data partition or your device will be unstable" along with a button that says "i'm feeling lucky"
i fortunately have a previous backup, but would like to know how the flying **** this happened, as having a nandroid backup completely fail like this is new to me and makes me very nervous. Had i not had a backup that was a couple days before the newly made one i would be flipping out pretty bad at the moment.
i also forgot to mention that i did click "skip" on setting up a google account in order to get to the home screen and see if it carried over anything, but the phone appears to be reset to stock on my particular ROM with no user apps at all, like i did a system format.
i also checked the nandroid file with "appextractor" from the play market to see if my apps and data were indeed inside, and upon doing an app scan, i found ALL my apps and could have extracted them from the backup if i so desired.
this makes it even more CONFOUNDING that the backup acts like a formatter, this is VERY perturbing to me.
ideas?
i had an issue like this before.
to fix it i ran the darkside superwipe script and then was able to restore my nand backup.

I've found myself stuck trying to flash a ROM. I'm a newbie, this was my first attempt at something like this, I though I read enough about the process but I guess I screwed up something. I will try to be to the point.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy S3 AT&T i747
Rooted phone with Casual, installed ROM Toolbox and purchased the pro upgrade.
installed TWRP 2.5 and made a nandroid backup, the only place this backup existed was in internal storage.
used ROM toolbox to backup user apps and user data
selected cyanogenmod 10.1 RC5 from within ROM Toolbox and there was a requester for gapps and a checked the box for that also. When the DL was complete I installed the ROM queue with those two items and I checked the boxes Wipe Data & Cache and Wipe dalvic-cache.
Phone went to recovery mode (i guess) and appeared to clear the memory and load the new rom, the phone rebooted and I got the cyanogenmod boot screen but then it went to a requester saying:
Unfortunately , the process com.google.process.gapps has stopped.
When you hit ok you get:
Unfortunately, setup wizard has stopped.
this requester never goes away, just keeps popping up when you hit ok.
So I removed the battery and booted the phone in recovery mode and try to restore but the restore nandroid file in not shown. If I hit the center button in the restore window it says "updating partition details" but never returns.
Whenever you power it up normally now you end up in this gapps loop.
My searching suggested I may have tried to install the wrong version of google apps somehow. What are my options for trying to recover from this? Does my backup still exist somewhere?
If process.gapps is your only warning you can try to reflash the gapps zip from here. http://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip If this does not fix your problem, you will have to head deeper into the rabbit hold
You can look for your back with a file explorer. Should be in sdcard/TWRP/BACKUPS/******** (random number). If you dont see them here, check your ext-sd in the same location. If you don't see them, they are gone. Do a Nandroid backup now just to be sure you have one. You should chose to back it up to external in TWRP. As for your FC problem, it would appear that you have not wiped fully. You will likely need to factory reset. the problem is this will remove everything. Titanium back up is a great product for situations like this. If you have used it, you can transfer your backup from the internal storage while connected to your pc. Also copy your DCIM folder as it will contain your photos. This is why you will need to do another Nandroid, because worst case scenario, you can just restore this one.
Thanks for the reply. I will try to reflash the gapps file from the external as soon I can download it, the site is having some trouble right now. I made another Nandroid of the phones current state and stored it to external. I did also have Titanium backup and had backups of the whole system with it. Unfortunately they are also only on the internal storage.
Re-installing the gapps zip file off the extSD from within TWRP did the trick. All the data and backups I created are also still there and are now backed up in several places.
Something that compounded the problem was the 64GB sd card I have for the phone. I was not able to mount it on either of my linux mint machines or an XP machine. Some oddness with the exFAT file system on it, I used a 4GB card I had laying around and it worked fine.
Thank you for the help, the phone is now running CM which is what I wanted and I learned a few things too.

I just bought a 64GB card as well. You may be having troubles mounting it due to a partition that comes factory in the SD. If this is the case, you can look at post #57 on the following page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1915385&page=6
It helped me tremendously.
Let me first apologize for all of the information, but I wanted to give you guys as much to go on as possible.
TLDWR - Can't flash roms, can't decrypt phone, can't wipe data, can't mount internal storage, can't use ODIN....where next?
Here is what I got:
SPH-L710
Android vers - 4.2.2
Cyanogenmod vers - 10.1.0-d2spr
Was getting flaky reception when I was on 10.0.0 nightly, decided to update to 10.1.2. Downloaded the the required files through Rom Manager, rebooted into CWM Recovery version 6.0.3.1 (non-touch) and did the install (dirty)....booted up and the ROM itself worked, but all my apps were getting "stopped unexpectedly". I figured, ok, did a dirty update so stuff isn't working; I'll redo it and this time wipe everything (after backup of course). When I went to do this, I noticed that it did not mount my sdcard (internal storage, not external sd card). I thought was odd, tried manually mounting, didn't work, tried rebooting recovery and that didn't work. Thought maybe it was a fluke, tried wiping and reflashing 4.2.2 (CM 10.1.2).....it went very quickly. Rebooted, and all of my stuff is gone, which is good, but now it won't let me restore apps.
At this point, I decided I'd had enough of trying to upgrade, so I decided to downgrade back to my old CM 10.0.0....long story short, the flash went quickly, booted up, things worked, but still had the same problem with the apps. I could see the data on the internal storage when the phone was booted, but it never saw it in recovery mode. After doing some reading, I saw where the filesystem changed when going to 4.2.2 so that you can use the new profiles feature. This seems to be what caused CWM Recovery to not see my internal storage anymore.
I thought well, maybe it's because I am back on 10.0.0, so I tried downloading and flashing 10.1.0. It did the same quick flash and showed after boot that I was running on 10.1.0, but I still couldn't mount internal storage (sdcard) in Recovery. I said screw it, reinstalled my apps and decided to truck on with how it was. Short version here - installed mobileiron and touchdown, ran through the encryption in mobileiron, etc etc...mobileiron didn't recognize touchdown and I could not get LEAP for wifi to work.
Decided I would try to decrypt and completely wipe phone. Removed Mobileiron as administrator, tried to decrypt - could not. Tried tweaking security settings, reboots, adb mount and format - all to no avail. Tried wiping in recovery....this failed because it cannot read my storage (because it can't mount it and it is now encrypted)!
With the phone booted up and running adb shell, I can get to the main file system, but my sdcard, data, data/media directories all look empty. I can't mount sdcard through ADB either.
When all of this failed, I looked to ODIN to fix my woes...no luck here either. Downloaded the stock Sprint ROM (4.1.1 L710VPBLJ7 L710SPRBLJ7 ) and tried flashing it but I get hung up on the "Setup Connection"...in ODIN. I have tried multiple drivers, usb ports, battery pulls, etc...I even tried from another PC.
I know this is a lot of information and I apologize again. If you read through all that, thanks for being thorough...if not, I will answer your questions, but hopefully won't have to repeat a bunch of info again.
My end all questions are - where do I go from here? What other options do I have? Is there any repair place I might be able to take this to that they might be able to decrypt/flash the phone to stock for me?
Thanks in advance,

Where did you download your stock Rom from? Did you FULLY uninstall drivers from Windows, before reinstalling?

I got the link to the stock stuff through ODIN from here:

Missed your other question the first time I read your post....Yes, I uninstalled the drivers, rebooted, reinstalled the drivers. Tried connecting on another PC as well.
Ok, little bit of an update.
I went through Recovery and was messing around trying to mount and wipe...I couldn't mount data or sdcard, so I figured I couldn't just format them either. WRONG! I was able to format /data and /data/media, which then let me mount /data. After doing this, I rebooted recovery and I could mount sdcard...so I did and formatted it.
Now, I had my old version of CM 10.0.0 on my external sd card, so I installed that and booted up...WOOT - back to blank CM 10.0.0!
Now I've got all my data and apps saved to a folder on my PC, if I can just figure out a way to put them back on the phones storage and restore from my backup...

It's sounds as if you should start a totally clean install, then backup your downloaded apps with Titanium Backup after you get ROM setup again.

Another update:
I couldn't get my backup to restore correctly....I kept getting an error restoring /data. Luckily I had an older backup from several months further and was able to restore that. After doing so, I had to remove my google accounts, readd them, and reinstall my mobile iron client for work and I am now good to go!
Man, that was a nightmare.....thought I had soft-bricked my phone.
How do I mark this thread as solved now?

Unfortunately I do have the same issue. The problem is I have not backed this up previously. Any suggestions?
Hey fellas,
A while ago I installed Cyanogenmod over my stock Samsung ROM (Rogers) using the Cyanogenmod Installer.
Then a few weeks ago, through settings -> about (or information), I updated to CM11 with no issue.
Today, I was prompted to update again (not sure what version it was, but I believe I had the update check frequency to 1 week, and today was the first time I got this prompt in a while).
The phone seemed to update fine, but after reboot, it is stuck on the splash screen (black background, says Samsung Galaxy S III, and has the cyanogenmod guy/logo at the bottom). This is the splash screen that pops up (usually only for a second) before the boot screen with the rotating circle.
From the search I've done, I was only able to find people that are stuck on the boot screen (with the circle), rather than the splash screen. And for those people the only solutions I was able to find involved factory reset. Before I attempt any of that, I was wondering if there was anything else I could try (other than wiping cache). Idiot that I am, I haven't backed my phone up since I first installed CM, and I have a number of very important contacts and texts that I really can't lose.
Failing that, is there a way to back up such information before wiping user data? Perhaps after booting into recovery?
Thanks in advance for any help whatsoever.
With regards to backing up,
If I boot into recovery, can I back up user data like contacts and SMS through ClockworkMod Recovery? If so, will it work even though the phone doesn't seem to be able to boot?
Under Backup and Restore, I see various options, I think storage/sdcard1 is the external SD card.
If I choose backup to /storage/sdcard1, it starts backing up my data, but exactly what will be backed up? Also, I don't have a ton of space in my SD card, would it be possible to select what to back up and what to skip?
Finally, under Mounts and Storage, there is a mount USB storage option. I assumed going into it will allow my computer (connected by USB) to detect my SD Card, and I can delete stuff off of it, but my computer can't detect the phone/sdcard either as media device or storage. Am I doing something wrong, or is this not what this function is supposed to do?
