[Q] /storage/emulated/0/0 - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

How do I get rid of the /storage/emulated/0/0 folder and the /storage/emulated/0 folder?
I hear people mentioning it but haven't quite found anything concrete on how to fix it.
One guy copied all of his files down one folder twice. I see that being a bad idea if apps are looking for specific paths.

First, update your recovery to its latest version. Then, make a backup of your sdcard (adb pull /sdcard/) and then delete all but the very top 0 folder.
When done correctly, you should one and only one 0 folder.
And if you don't have adb installed on your computer, do it now.
The 0 folder structure is part of the multi-user feature in 4.2.x and the older recoveries don't work well with it.

[Q] sorry for another 0 folder question

first of all i am really sorry for another 0 folder thread, but i am trying to understand the new file system in 4.2.1 and get rid of it. the main reason i care, is because i like to copy my backups to my PC using windows explorer. after flashing my first 4.2 rom, i got the 0 folder. i noticed all my old backups were in there, which is no big deal, i dont really need them. however, this is where my PC is reading from (data/media/0). i can now only access my old backups in data/media/0/clockworkmod or twrp. the new backups i make NOT in the 0 folder, so i cannot reach from my pc. i am sure there is a way to push/pull these backup folders using the toolkit, but windows explorer is just really easy.
so my question is, if i completely reformat, push a 4.2 image, and flash a 4.2 rom, getting rid of the 0 folder, will my pc will go back to reading the proper system folders like it did before (data/media/clockworkmod) so i can retrieve my new backups?
thanks!
The 0 is the proper file system. Formatting and flashing 4.2.1 is just going to put you exactly where you are.

ok, so then is there a way to get twrp and cwm to make backups in data/media/0 instead of data/media so i can view them from windows explorer? or is pushing/pulling through adb my only option or is there a way to combine the data systems into 1 and have my pc read that?
thanks

[Q] Can't access some important files after 4.2 upgrade

Hi all,
Thanks for helping me out with this. When Jelly Bean was first announced I tried an unofficial ROM that was very buggy, so I went back to an AOKP ICS build. Since then I switched to CM 10.0 and continued to use it for a while until I heard about the recent Paranoid Android builds so I decided to give Jelly Bean another shot.
As we all know, Jelly Bean places its files inside a folder titled 0 (Zero) on the phone. When I upgraded the first time, all my files were automatically moved into the 0 folder and when I downgraded, they did not move back but I could still see and access the 0 folder with my old files in it. So far, so good.
Since I was using that configuration for a month I took a lot of photos and downloaded some files that I definitely don't want to lose. So imagine my surprise when I installed Paranoid Android and I could no longer access my old pictures and files!!
My guess is that the files are still on the phone's memory, but since the operating system now sees 0 as its root folder, it isn't aware of all the files existing outside that directory and can't physically access them using Astro or Android File Transfer (or Windows Explorer).
So my question to the amazing community here is this:
How can I access 100% of the phone's internal memory?
I assume there is a way to do this from recovery, but I don't want to do something that could potentially delete those files before I get to copy them to my computer and the folders inside the 0 directory.
Any and all help is appreciated! Thank you!
Use a root explorer (like ES File Explorer) and move the files into the relevant folder under 0
Hi,
i have the same problem than you ><,
appeared after flashing nightly CM10.1, the only solution to remove the folder "0" than I found is to save everything (by ftp because by usb connection I did'nt see my file) and formatted the sdcard ... not clean solution...

ES File Explorer is not working for that. It still doesn't see the old folders. Any other suggestions?
I tried using ClockworkMod recovery and selecting "Mount Storage" while connected to my computer but when I click "Mount Storage" nothing happens. Any help with this would be appreciated, because when I browse using ClockworkMod Recovery (like for a .zip to install) I can definitely see the old folders with the old files in them.

[Q] Folder Structure Problem..

Hi,
I've been flashing some Custom Roms which have the multi-user feature found in the nexus 7.
And whenever i flash these roms, it creates a new folder called "0" containing many different folders.
I have about 6 or 7 of these folders now and my folder structure is messed up.
Is there a way i can fix all this?
Thanks in advance.
This happens on 4.2 ROMs. Not sure on the specifics but apparently its the way the new file system works.
It transfers all the files normally under SD to a folder called SD/0 as you found.
What I've been doing is just cutting and pasting all the folders inside the folder 0 back onto the root of the SD card lol.
Not sure if there is a better method

Old ROM files keep coming back.

I have this folder on my phone that keeps coming back that is filled with old ROMs I had flashrd before. These add up to around 1.5GB. I can delete the whole folder but when I reboot my phone they are back. The folder name is called "!ReadytoFlash" I thought maybe these files are coming from the very top root folder of the phone but I can't seem to find where they are being restored from. There an example of a old ROM I had stored on the phone. Don't take into account that it is for the i9100 has this is not the phone I have. It is the Samsung galaxy nexus. The picture show me doing a search on one if the files that keeps coming back.
Post a screenshot of your phone - might help getting an answer
update your recovery and remove all the /0/ folders except 1.

OK I deleted all but one /0/ folder and after rebooting it remade the rest of the /0/0/... folders and add the .zip roms
Edit for got to mention that I update my recovery to the latest version.
Give this a try...
Boot into recovery, plug in the USB cable, go into adb shell, and make sure that /data is mounted. Then:
cd /data/media
chown -R media_rw.media_rw *

[Q] AOSP Rom without 0 Folder?

Coming from stock and flashing aosp adds a 0 folder to my sdcard and just makes a copy of what i already have, and then separates existing pictures and such. I like switching between custom roms and stock but not at the cost of space. My question is, is there a custom rom that can run off of normal sdcard folder and not have to create this 0 folder? Its only aosp roms that do this as ive flashed stock, vectus, and lifeless without this problem.
Just something you have to deal with. Here's what I do. (I use root browser)
1) create a folder marked 0 in your sdcard
2) show hidden files if they aren't already
3) cut and paste (copy will take a lot longer) everything in your /sdcard into the 0 folder. Except the zero folder itself, we don't want paradoxes
4) reboot into recovery, flash stock rom as usual, and things should be where you expect

I'm not sure what you mean. You actually have to move your files into the 0 folder, using a cut and paste operation. And as far as file mirroring goes, I think that's common and shouldn't be an issue, something to do with the multi user setup. Idk.

You are correct android 4.2.2 is setup a bit differently to accommodate multi user support it uses numbered folders, stock being 4.1.2 doesn't use the same folder setup so it will be duplicated.

You can use sylinks. Just sysmlink everything in your 0 folder to your SD. You would either need to add the symlinks to the updater script or use init.d
I'm moving so fast you're in slow motion.
