I already tried that but noting changed :/

You must have done something else. At worst changing the boot animation with a bad one would give you a black screen until to booted. Tell us exactly what you did step by step

It says waiting for device... :S But its connected.
I've plant to do following:
1. Go to Bootloader > Recovery > Mounts and storage >
2. i'll format /boot /cache /data /system
3. Reboot system and when you do that system goes to boot loader automatically.
I've tried this one and i've installed gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip and unofficial-CM7-marvel-nigthly-01_15_2012.zip but system again stuck at bootanimation.
I think problem is not just that custom bootanimation.zip.
I've edited system.yaffs2.img from backup and reinserted it all custom animation have gone but system still wont boot. Any solution is there any way do Clean Reinstall android like we do with Windows on PC xD?

From recovery factory reset/wipe data. Then install new rom from SD card pal. Also you need to issue the log cat command just after you tell the phone to reboot or it will stay waiting :what:

System Update 4.08.605.2

What is it and why am I getting this prompt? I'm rooted with 2.3.4
Obviously I shouldn't accept this update but does anyone know what this is?
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
Hi. I am new.
I just installed the ROM 2.3.4 last night that was posted in the xda forum(upgraded manually from 2.2 on a Unrevoked rooted Dinc).
I installed the 4.06 ROM and I am reading the official was 4.08...
Do I need another upgrade? Or is this 'the' upgrade that is for root users?
Not trying to steal your post ugxvibe. both of our questions might have similar answers.
if you update will you lose root control? What about all the apps? I'm most concerned about not being able to tether...
Just flash wildstangs 4.08.605.2 ota rom. It is the newest ota update, but already rooted.
how do I do that? Through rom manager?
Is there a way to stop the update reminder from popping up without actually installing it? I'm afraid I might mess up my phone and don't want to risk losing everything g on it.
Guys, to stop the prompt from appearing just press install and it will try to reboot but will just error and u will never see it again trust me .

Yes thru rom manager.
You can dissable the notifications by editing your /system/build.prop file. Look for:
ro.config.htc.nocheckin = 0
and change the 0 to a 1. If you dont see that line add it somewhere in the file.
I went to make the nocheckin = 1 modification, but I already had it, and I'm still getting the update notifications. Not even sure how it got there. All I've done is root with Unrevoked, maybe that does the edit?

It should have worked, you may need to clear the cache partition. Or there is another method go to /etc/security and rename otacerts.zip to otacerts.zip.bak
Like what was said above...
If you have Clockwork or some other custom recovery, if you just allow it to update when prompted, it will not install and will cause no other problems. You must have the stock recovery in order for the update to install.
It CANNOT install if you don't have the stock recovery.
But, I would also go into the /cache directory and find the update file and zap it (It will be obvious). I just use ADB and "rm" it from my PC. You could use root explorer or something. Otherwise you will have a big update file just sitting there and hogging space.

At the top of the screen in Root Explorer, change r/o to r/w. Then make your change.

im rooted n using the clockworld mod for roms, I attempted to run the 4.08 update from User wildstang following the instructions but after installing the update n rebooting it just sits at "Dorid incredible" white screen and never boots. I may be doing something wrong here, can someone break it down for me? suggestions?
NOTE: I use CWMR 5X. Some wipe options below are not included in earlier recovery versions. Still wipe what is available the best you can.
1. Put the Rom on the root of your SD Card
2. Compare MD5 Sum
Windows: MD5 Calculator
LINUX: Open Terminal and type: md5sum [path to the rom on your sd card]
Mac: Open a terminal and type: md5 [path to the rom on your sd card]
3. Reboot to Recovery
4. Wipe these:
Main Screen:
wipe data/factory reset - x2
wipe cache partition - x2
Advanced:
Wipe Dalvik Cache - x3
Wipe Battery Stats - optional
Mounts and Storage:
Format-
/boot - x2
/system - x2
/datadata - x2
/data - x2
/cache - x2
5. Install Rom from SD Card by going back and selecting install from SD card.
6. Reboot and enjoy!
followed each step to the letter but still wont boot : /
Ok i changed nothing in the method of installing the rom and for whatever reason it worked!! 4.08 now phone is 10X faster and im loving it. Only issue i see now is i cannot get back into clockworld mod! why is that? i hold down power and vol down for a long time and when release it just starts the boot sequence any suggestions?

I had the same problem, but after two times running the install its still getting the hang. Hopefully I'll get better luck on try #3.
Did you figure out what caused the temporary issue?

OK I've found the file you're talking about and it doesn't have that line in it so I need to add it. I can't easily get access to a computer right now to run the command line on my phone so i have been trying to use the terminal emulator instead. It says I doesn't have a text editor...is there a way to edit via the emulator? Do you wkno which commands to use?
Thanks again
Yep, still having a minor issue with this. I have added the line suggested and I have cleared my cache yet I still get periodic prompts to install the update. I'm not really keen on doing so. Can anyone else suggest a way to stop the (weekly) prompts?
Thanks

Bootloop

Hey guys,
I was using Sandvolds ICS for some weeks, but since yesterday my phone won't work anymore. I was starting a bike tour, but GPS on Endomondo didn't really work. So I restarted my phone. When I boot it'll show the white screen with green HTC logo, then it'll show the Evervolv animation and this animation will be displayed until I remove the battery, one time I had it running for half an hour.
I tried to boot the phone without sd card and could boot, but after "optimising" apps it kept on crashing because, as it appears, the system data is partly on the sd card.
Now I don't know what to do, what would you recommend? I'd probably just wipe everything and reinstall a backup, but - I don't have a backup

I got the same situation with you dude!!
I'm now using beta 0.17.1, but after this afternoon everything was wrong.
Then I did a full wipe and installed the latest version of Sandvolds ICS,
It's good and normal before I activate a2sd, but after that
everything went wrong again.
And finally I tried HTC DESIRE-AOKP-milestone6 v2,
It is working normally with INT2EXT, but not very smooth and stable.
actually i don't know what's going on right now :crying:

hi everybody..i've got the same problem..everything was ok until yesterday with the latest release of the sandvold ics rom..when my phone shutted down for low battery,i put it on charge..after that,i booted it up,and it still remain on the evervolv logo...so i tried to wipe cache, wipe partition, factory reset and format and repartition the sd card..reinstall the rom..and eveything was ok the first time..after that,i enabled the a2sd,and it strucked another time..so i did everything again from the beginning, but this time i enabled the a2sd without any problem..so i started to download from the market all the stuff that i needed, and everything was fine..so i rebooted the phone..and here we go again..strucked!but the worst thing is that without the sd,the phone boot without any problem!now..i bought the sd a week ago..it's a new one..i don't think that it's an sd problem..or also the first times it won't be able to boot up and everything..also i would't be able to install the rom!..so..any suggestion?

maybe you can temporarily try DESIRE-AOKP-milestone6 v2
it's also a good choice! and a good rom also.
Hey,
I have the same problem! I also have Sandvolds ICS rom and it gets stuck on the Evervolv loading screen.
It loads up flawlessly without my SD card but then all my stuff is gone.
Any way to backup my data? (EDIT: Nevermind that question, I used backup from recovery)
BTW, SD card works, I can mount it from recovery mode.
Guys, what you say doesn't make me happy!
Maybe it's worth mentioning that I was NOT using the latest version of ICS, but I had no problems for weeks. I'm already waiting for the new Nexus phones, one of them will save me a lot of time and trouble updating to the newest OS and software
Good luck everyone, and please tell us if you manage making your phone working again
tried updating to latest ics via 4ext - fail! i could watch the evervolv animation for hours
Possible Solution
Looking in the Sandvold's thread a lot of people have been claiming that the bootloops is caused by the most recent version of Google Play 3.9.16. Apparently just deleting that will let you boot fine.

For me didn't work, but I want to try again and apply the solution directly on the first boot.

Thanks for your hint, but after a few steps, I was stuck. After downloading the SDK (not mentioned in the tutorial) I experienced problems in the following steps, here is where I had problems
- cd Program Files(x86)/Android/android-sdk/platform-tools/ - I had to enter cd AppData\Local\Android/android-sdk/platform-tools/
- adb shell - command didn't work - I entered adb resulting in lots of text on my screen

Probably because there is no folder /data/data? Have you followed the instructions in this thread? That should work.

Exactly, you have to mount more or less everything, depends on what kind of a2sd you have.
In my case, I had to mount everything because of "standard app2sd"; my "vending" are in /system, /data and /sdext.
Just to be sure, you have to undestand if the phone is connected to the computer. To check this try to write:
...../platform-tools/adb kill-server (press enter)
...../platform-tools/adb start-server (press enter)
NOW plugin your HTC Desire (in Recovery mode) to the computer and digit:
...../platform-tools/adb devices
Should appear at least your Deside (on the right side of the phone code will appear the word"recovery")
If this appear, you can prooced with "adb shell" or all other commands required for the procedure.
I had the same bootloop problem, it was easy to remove all the Play Store files.
Hope helping you.

I think that Tourist06 can't resolve with mounting /system or something else, because he has a problem with adb (adb don't talks with his device).
Have you followed this guide for installing adb?
@freakymonkey: I followed the guide, seemed to work! If I enter the shell I no more need to enter the whole path, entering "adb" will produce text. Please have a look at the following screenshot, hope you can confirm this.
@matteo.rex, no success, here's a screenshot
A pop-up appeared saying there were unidentified devices.
Thanks for your help, guys! My phone isn't working for the sixth day now

Uhm, this is the problem maybe.
First question: is the phone charging when you plugin it to the pc? (I had a problem with the cable...solved changing it)
Second: could be not an ADB installation problem, but a Driver Installation problem. Check this thread to download it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654047
If typing "ADB" a list of command appear, this mean that it work.
Windows, after the driver installation, have to recognize you Desire also during Recovery, not only during common use.
I hope it could help you!
Let us know!
p.s. I use ADB over Ubuntu, but the work is the same.

How to change bootanimation runnig stock.

Hi, I am currently using stock JB with a couple of mods/extras i managed to link in via the kitchen. But frustratingly so I cannot change the boot image and are hoping with appreciation someone in here can direct me. So far I have tried everything I am capable of. That is from within the kitchen enabling the function which is suppose to allow you to change your boot animation. Although it gives you the tick and creates a different directory for your boot animation this still doesn't work. I have tried replacing hTC_boot_one.zip file but does not work. Whenever i do replace or alter that file the boot starts as normal with white htc and then goes to black with android with a back light rolling from side to side, like kit in night rider. I also have tried flashing Mattmans-Boot-Animation which uses aroma installer. Still didnt work and as far as I know it just added the file in system/customize/resource/. There appears to be a command file preventing any changes internally in stock. Really appreciate and hope someone can help. Thanks in advance......happy new years.....:good:

Have you mounted system as rw? In root explorer you just press the button, not sure on other apps, and have you set the right permissions? rw-r--r-- to match everything else in system/customize/resource.

If system is mounted as ro (read only) you can't change anything in the folder, this is the default setting I think and it needs to be mounted as rw to allow changes.
You could try to rename something in the system directory and if it doesn't actually change then you need to change it, or check if the filesize of the boot animation you replace changes.
Like I said, rootexplorer app changes it with a tap of the button, not sure what else to use

Thanks again. No problem renaming any file within system so I guess it is mounted as rw. As to file size, i have tried different file sizes and identical file sizes to the hTC_boot_one.zip file. I have even tried using the same Zip file and just replacing with different images. Making sure to end up with the same values. Nothing seems to work.
Strange, I had rooted stock Rom and it worked fine, maybe you have the wrong format of files or haven't zipped as store only, no compression. I assume it is a sense one x Rom?
Maybe try this one I made for the Rom I use

I've ported mattlgroff's DROIDRAZR all-in-one Script to the Motorola Defy Mini XT320/XT321. This will make life easier and it will do it for you.
Make sure you have fastboot mode if not please refer to this guide for fastboot but there is a fastboot checker in option 6 but it won't install fastboot for you.

Make sure press thanks if it works
Guys please don't repost it as your own work, otherwise I'll report it and you will get banned from XDA.
NOTE: If you have previously used the old EXE to install TWRP then please remove the old folders by using these instructions using cmd before using updated exe to install TWRP;
1.
Code:
adb shell
2.
Code:
su
3.
Code:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock11 /system
4.
Code:
rm -R /system/bootmenu
Then use the updated exe to install TWRP.
NOTE: If you don't like TWRP, you can download Guitwo2's Permanent CWM at http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1875373&d=1365682716
Temporary CWM Recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1875299&d=1365680458
2nd-init does NOT work in CWM Recovery
Thanks to @Guitwo2 for CWM Recovery.
Instructions on how to install Permanent CWM Recovery:
1. Make sure stericson-busybox is installed
2. Put XT320_bootmenuV2.zip in the root of your sdcard
3. Reboot into fastboot mode by typing this command in cmd:
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
4. Then type this command in cmd:
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
5. Then use volume keys to navigate and power button to select option. Select install zip from sdcard, then select XT320_bootmenuV2.zip and select yes to install the zip file
6. Then reboot device by selecting reboot device now.
CWM 6 has a bug where it asks you to 'disable recovery flash' when you select reboot system now make sure you select NO or you will soft brick your device.
Changelog:
-v2 No need to mount /sdcard in CWM Recovery. Fixed TWRP installation issues.
-v2.0.1 Released an .exe version of script, to simplify installation
-v2.0.1.1 Fixed bootmenu.zip

The root process worked for me. Now i can install link2sd and set up a swap partition.
I cant install TWRP and i think the reason is that the bat was having some problem to send that bootmenu.tar file to my sd card. I tried to send that file myself before starting the entire process and it didnt worked.
I took a picture of the error i'm getting . Thank you again, i was really mad about that low internal space xD

Ok, I've made a fixed script here. The error was that the sdcard is a directory so it will refuse to push files into it.
Here's the updated script below. Just put the .bat file in the same place as the other files.
Thanks

Ty for the quickly answer.
Btw, my gsm network wasnt working after the root process. If the same thing happens to someone else, just do a master reset and it will work again.
pull command is working now
That sdcard copy part is working now. The TWRP process is still not working for me. I tried to do myself the commands using the adb interface and when i use the command to intall the tar, i got the message 'tar: no space left on device" . I hope you can help me with that and i'm sorry about all this questions xD .

Yes but it sometimes gets unstable so you should overclock to 700MHz which is the highest I got without reboots. pll2_l_val=73 gives you 700MHz.

[Q] Gnex stucks on Nexus logo

Hello guys, I need your help with the Gnex.
My friend gave me the phone hoping that I can do something. It stucks on nexus logo while booting. USB debugging is turned off, cwm or twrp is not installed. All I can is to enter Android system recovery with the following options: apply update from adb; apply update from usb drive; wipe data factory reset; wipe cache partition.
I've tried wiping cache partition but is doesn't help. Please advice whether wiping data/factory reset will delete the data from internal SD card - I am afraid to lose the photos.
Please advice what should I do to extract data (photos) in my situation?
Thanks in advance to everyone.

before using device too much, quick go to galaxy nexus general section here, and find thread "internal data recovery, yes we can"
you might be able to recover deleted photos.
the way it works when you delete things, is it just tells os that the space isnt being used, so the actual data might still be there and some may still be recoverable.
it is quite a process though. good luck

Thank you for your help. I've followed to step 6, but unfortunalely, RAW file is 0 b after creation. I've tried different numbers in this name mmcblk0p12.raw - but with no effect.. Tried to reinstall cygwin, used NetCat file insted of NC - all the same.
Maybe anyone faced this problem with 0 b size of the RAW file? Maybe it's because I have less than 15 Gb of free space on my disk C?
Would be grateful for your advices.

I'd like to try explaining this a little better. Basically when using a program from the command prompt in any OS the OS needs to know where the program is (this is not just for command prompt, but I digress). There are a few ways of telling the OS where the program you want to use is located.
For example, lets say you have ADB in the folder "android_stuff" on your E drive.
Option 1: Change Directory to the folder, IE: "cd android_stuff"
Option 2: Provide the "full path name" of the program, "e:\android_stuff\adb"
Option 3: Add the folder location to the system "path"
Options 1 and 2 are fairly easy and straightforward, whereas Option 3 can be done in a few ways.
My suggestion is to go with Option 1, its the easiest and all you would have to do is put all of the files you will be using into a single folder.
