What would you recommend? - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am thorn on what to buy. Please advice me guys.
I am deciding between the Galaxy Note 2 or Galaxy Tab 7.7.
Of course the Tab is so much cheaper, can make calls and send texts too. That's why I am so thorn.
And while I was looking at the two, I feel like the size isn't too far from each other and I am gonna put them in a small pouch in my bag all the time anyways.
What do you recommend? Argghhh!

Note 2 the way...!!

Note 2 all the way. believe the the physical sizes are worlds apart, and you cant even hold the tab on your face. its too inconvenient. plus note 2 can fit in your pocket. best of both worlds, phone and tablet

[Q] screen size

does anyone think the 5.5 inch screen of the at&t galaxy note II is too big for a phone? cause i want this tablet/phone but kinda worry about this being too big in my pockets compared to the S III or other smart phones.

i had the note 1..... as for size you will get use to it in a couple of days....as for pockets i agree its not pocket friendly well as for me its ok but you can feel it in your pocket big time.. depends on what kind of jeans/pocket size you have/wear everyone is different.. my GS3 fits nice in my pocket i think that the good size limit for me.. note can be fitted in most pockets..unless you wear very tight skinny jeans.. i miss the note.:silly: i want note 2:victory: but i will pay a full price due to GS3 just got months ago...
give the note 2 a try when it comes out..see if it fits your needs..you can always return it back before 30 days just dont get it damage..

SIze? Nope. I'd use a tablet for a phone, except that I don't think I can fit it in my pockets very well. As for Note 2 fitting in your pockets, it'll fit no problem. You could probably fit 2-6 in your pockets no problem...at least in my pockets. Mine are wide enough to fit a 2 litre soda bottle no problem though haha. They're like the Tardis.
unless you are an emo black skin tight jeans, it should fit in your pockets. general size it's big but you get used to it. when not in your pocket, put on table infront of you?
I carry a Google nexus 7 in my pocket. Guess it depends on your pants...

It is too big for some, but you'd be surprised how pocketable it is. All my friends are.
I HIGHLY suggest making a mockup out of cardboard (just leave the corners square), and testing out your pants.
That's what I did before I ordered the first Note.

Logitech keyboard case for galalxy 10.1

Hey guys just saw a review by QBKing about this keyboard case and I was thinking of ordering one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oD0NDYgn058&feature=g-high-c
I thought I might as well sharing it with the community and I found it on amazon for $26 only which is not bad and it has a good reviews
http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-920-...keywords=Logitech+Keyboard+Case+for+note+10.1
note that on the item description it says custom cut for the note 10.1 wifi version which is the one I have
From reading the comments on Amazon, I believe that is for the Galaxy TAB 10.1 which means it probably won't fit the Note 10.1. The final picture listed also shows the box stating Galaxy Tab 10.1.
In my experience looking for a Bluetooth Keyboard Case the only one that I've found that actually fits and does a very good job is the Kensington model however it will set you back a hefty chunk unless you find it on sale like I did. The Office Depot in my neighborhood was moving and had it 50 percent off so I got it for 50 bucks

I'm looking to replace my Toshiba Thrive with a Galaxy Note 10.1 and I already have this keyboard. I loved it with my Thrive, but it was nowhere near going to fit it. I'm wondering if anyone with the Note 10.1 has modified the keyboard to fit. I understand you can easily prop up the tablet, but I'm looking at it as a protective case as well.
Thats for tab 2

I get that it's not for the note 10.1. I was asking if anyone has modified it to fit, such as taking a dremel to it to adjust the shape.
I could see modding the base to hold the tab would work but since the note is slightly larger doubt it would work as a case like with the tab2

Ive had my Note 2 for about a month and a half now. I got it for the screen size. Is it just me or is the phone starting to look smaller like a regular phone? Every other phone looks like a mini phone. Ive been thinking lately that in the future I might want a phone....thats a little bigger. Any of you have one of these thoughts anytime?

I know mayne. I was fixing some issues on my old Mytouch 4g slide and it was like handling a toy . the screen looked like it coulda been a watch face or something.
As I had the note for a month I feel like its rather small too.. kinda weird

My wife has an iPhone 4S and I used it the other day and caught myself squinting holding it up to my face.
I could go for a 6 inch screen. This one doesn't seem so big anymore. That's what she said.
Haha I think I will be in agreement once I get mine.
Just going into the T-Mobile store and messing around with it today I thought "damn I swear this phone was bigger than this last time I saw it"
I think 6" will be the max though.. my Nexus 7 is just too big to use as a phone. Though it does have some excessive bezel..
Maybe 6" having edge to edge display. That would be something

Coming from the S II on t-mobile, I thought this phone was huge on week 1. Now on week 2 it doesn't seem that big until I hold the S II up to it and realize the entire phone fits inside the screen of the note 2.
My tab 2 will not fit in my pocket no matter how big the pants. Well maybe if I dig out some of my 90's raver pants from JNCO it would fit. I knew I should have gotten the one with the sim card slot while I was in Malaysia. I saw people using the 7 inch tablets as phones all the time while I was there.

I have medium size hands, and I think the size is perfect. I will probably never go smaller, but any bigger really would make it un-pocketable.
I totally agree about other phones being dinky and almost useless to me now. My old Captivate feels like an imitation phone. The screen buttons are so small, I get instantly annoyed with it.
Swyped from the closest Galaxy.
Got it the day it came out for Tmobile, and for a while now I been complaining that it feels to small and want something bigger.

it does feel smaller after using for awhile but compared to my wife3's gs3 it's huge.
It feels normal to me, too! And I thought I was the only one... When my friends or co-workers ask me how I can use such a big phone, I hold it in front of me like I'm pissing and say, "I'm used to it." Haha. Never gets old.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Id go for a 6 inch. Tho I would have to move the phone to the front pocket.
I feel the same way guys, the phone feels normal to me now. As of right now I thinks it's perfect but I wouldn't mind going 6"edge to edge hehe. Today I used my Co workers 4s,and I was really saddened with the experience lol. It felt like a toy, screen looked like crap compared to my Note2, I don't see myself ever going smaller again.
Coming from an iPhone 4 this phone is simply mind blowing. I'm 6'3'' with very large hands and do everything one-handed. I was looking at my 4 today, it's like a kid's crackerjack box toy. The screen is a joke.
I for one can never go back to anything less than a SGN2. I feel like Capt. Kirk 500 years in the future.

I'm at the point where my Note 2 feels very much the way my SIII used to feel and my Droid DNA just feels like a normal size phone. I also get confused when people say "How can you use that thing??" I'm like "What? It's normal. . . "
Just yesterday I was comparing it to a friends iPhone 4 and the first thing I said when I grabbed the iPhone 4 was "awww it's so cute!!". Later on my friend kept being amazed at the things I could do with my phone. Things like multiwindow, being able to select a part of the screen and copy it, writing with the SPen, writing notes on the back of pictures and a few other things, oddly enough he was much more impressed about the fact that there was a little dot that would follow the stylus around on the screen even though the stylus was not touching the screen.
By the end of the night I ended up selling him my Nexus 7 which I no longer needed because of the Note 2. I already have a Note 10.1 and the Note 2... oh yea and that droid DNA that I hardly use now.
I'm surprised how small every other phone feels after using the GN2 for just a few weeks. Maybe Huawei 6.1in screen will be my next device :cyclops:
http://bgr.com/2012/12/06/huawei-galaxy-note-ii-competitor/
It took a week, tops, for me to feel like all my other "big" phones (HTC One X, Galaxy S3, Galaxy Nexus) were small. The One X feels downright tiny to me, and the S3, which always felt big, now feels like the minimal size I'd be happy with.
I don't feel like the Note II is small, though. It's certainly the ideal size for me right now, 90% of the time, anyways. It does seem a little large in the hand to be using the device while driving, not that I ever do that...
I'm interested to play with a Droid DNA to see how it feels and looks.
How about a 6.3in Galaxy Note 3?

Note 2 size

I have been using note since the original note cane out and people start mocking it's size. And I had this issue since the note.. I am just wondering whether anyone else feels the same..
When you are watching a movie, playing a game, browsing the Web, or taking notes. Thank god for the more then palm size phone.
When you are on the train standing trying to balance and text or browse or even temple run, when you are taking a picture with one hand or trying to text or make a call while holding groceries or shopping stuff. God the big screen is so damn retarded and hard to manoeuvre.. Take note my palm is quite huge. To use the phone one handed it rest on my fingers for my thumb to reach the end of the screen where q is on the keyboard. And this is always frustrating as I feel as though the phone would drop if anyone bangs into me which happens alot in singapore..

Never had a problem with the Note 2 size. It really fits very good to me, I'm 6'2" and the phone feels really good to me, but when other people use it I realize how big it is in other peoples hands. Sometimes it makes me chuckle hahaha.
Use it for 2 hours. Each and every other phone would look extremely tiny to you.
As for the mobility never had a problem.

True story, for example, iPhone 4S and 5, they look so small for me, almost like a cereal box toy. I hardly think I can go back to phones with -5" screens.

I have small hands and the size is not an issue for me. I need to have a slim case on it to improve the grip but it's fine with that.
Sent from the mighty Note II.
Like many others I do not think about it being large until I pick up my old SGSI or see it in a shop next to other phones. Regarding one handed use I think the problem is caused by pourly designed interfaces than the size of the phone. Developers imo are still stuck in the world of Windows and insist on putting most command icons at the top of the screen when they should all really be at the bottom. This is especially true now that the average phone is 5" It's even a chore to do a lot of browsing with two hands the way things look today. Compare browsing with many tabs on BoatBrowser, with customizable icons on the bottom, to Chrome where everthing is at the top. Tiring!!
One last rant. If you must use it with one hand. Get a good case. Phones are not cheap, nor is insurance.
If you need to type one handed I can warmly recommend "messagease" keyboard which makes writing with the thumb a breeze.
i get greif at work mostly all the time about its size ...BUT ive never had a bad call and when i watch video i can actually see it even if i want to have subtitles
the irony is i remember getting greif when i bought a t28 by erricsson cos it was so small ...times they are a changing!
as a side note ...when i have to borrow the handed down 4s that i gave the wife when i !upgraded! it seems so damn small and almost impossible to use now
There is two kinds of people..
1, people who have a Note 2
2, people who don't have a Note 2 but want a Note 2
Why do you care what other people think? The Galaxy Note 2 is by far, the best handset on the market for my needs. I don't need a tablet anymore, hell; I have a £1350 computer just collecting dust.
Movies, games, music, drawing, browsing the internet etc is significantly better with a larger screen.

I do not care what others think. I care how I can use my phone more efficiently. By efficient I mean using it without risk of dropping.
I'm outta here. You fan boys who just jumped the bandwagon are too much for me to handle.

For my one year of using note 1 I have not seen someone with big enough hands to COMFORTABLY use the phone one handed on the train or even walking. Thus, I call you guys fan boys for claiming size of the phone is just nice.
Of course I live in singapore where the average height is 1. 7metres so there may well really be people who can comfortably use the phone in one hand without risk of dropping. But whenever I use mine one handed it would be quite taxing on the heart as it can easily drop, especially when using cases which are smooth to the touch.
I apologise for coming across as being angered but I assure you I am not.

I always thought it was ridiculously big for a phone but when the Note 1 became on sale and I needed a tablet anyway I thought wth I'll give it a try. Just of a couple of days with it and I can't imagine going back to anything smaller. I use MessagEase for one-handed texting btw. Now I have a Note 2 and it's great although sometimes I'm thinking of switching to an S3. Size has never been an issue for me but sometimes the weight is.
Coming from Dell streak 5, makes me not an early adaptor, I felt that the Note 2 was perfect for my hand, I had to skip the Note 1 bcs I found it not very comfortable in grip and did not look at it was a real upgrade. Note 2 was very different, I remember the first time I hold it and had the wow effect on me. As for the Note 3 I don't know if it will be a real upgrade compare to this device or not, hope they don't go crazy with this screen size wars, but if 3 will have the same size as 2 but with bigger screen and smaller bezel and no physical button I might go for it, as for 8 core, I don't really care much since for what I use the device even 4 core is overkill for me.
Oh I almost forgot, the only thing that might make me switch from Note 2 to 3 is , battery, if they manage to put a 6500 mA for the same thickness they got my money in advance.

After more than 1yr with note1, now after 5th day of use of n2 i must say it is not good for me. I hate the aspect ratio - screen is bad. N2 is fluid like water and i wish i could replace n2s motherboard into original n1 body.
I use tablet layout on n1 so swype notifications from bottom right corner is not a problem while holding one hand....ability to press back button while holding in left hand....
So i really need to find quick tablet ui for n2 and give it a try as first impressions from stock are negative - only to aspect ratio and too much over saturated screen. and feels blurry to me.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I much prefer the note 2 body. Slimmer more manoeuvrable although not by much. Tablet UI how about the famous hybrid rom? Cm10 though.
On note 1 the cm10 was much faster then the stock samsung skinned. However on the note 2 with jellybeans stock skinned.. Cm10 seemed slower to me.

note1 naked....also looks like that right now...silver finish is worn out.
I have a slim cover for n2 and feels the same as n1 but higher. Without cover it is perfect but i am not sure if i am gonna keep n2. Maybe wait for s4, also xperia z in question only because of ip certification.
Also i feel uncomfortble not having the possibility view s notes from other sources like pc or something. This make spen for notes uselles and have to make notes on catch or evernote.
So spen nice feature but personally stopped using it much. So then s4 is smaller and 0,5 inches diff in screen not much.

Physical difference between CDMA, GSM, and International versions of the Note 2??

So I'm tracking my Note 2 that I ordered and it's suppose to arrive tomorrow. I want to buy a white Samsung flip cover to match it and offer some screen protection while it's in my pocket. When shopping online for one though, I'm seeing some descriptions saying for the international version, some for AT&T/T-Mobile, and some for Sprint/Verizon. Is there a physical difference between these models, because I didn't think there was? Just wanted to check with you guys before spending money on something I won't be able to use.
Also, does any company make a belt clip holster to carry the phone when it's not in a case? I have 3 different Seidio holsters for my Evo LTE. 1 for a Commuter case, 1 for a TPU case, and 1 that holds the phone when naked (which is how I carry it 95% of the time). I'd really like to get a holster to hold my Note 2 when it's naked, as that's how I plan to carry it most of the time as well. I'm 6'2" 210lbs, so I'm not worried about it looking funny or too big on my hip. Thanks for any help guys, and I will be hitting the Thanks button for all helpful replies!!

There shouldn't be any physical differences like for instance the zero lemon battery will fit on any of the note 2. Same thing with cases. Only difference is in the phone are software, some hardware.

Awesome, I really appreciate the reply!! Guess I'm gonna order me a Samsung flip case\cover now!
My Note 2 actually came in the mail today, 1 day earlier than I expected! Just got off the phone with Sprint and took my Evo LTE off of my line and added the Note 2!! Awesome first thoughts!! This is easily my favorite Android phone for straight out of the box impressions! Usually buy phones on release day(6 HTC phones over the last 6 years) and have to wait a week before any root methods are released. That said, I think I'm actually gonna use my Note 2 stock for the rest of today and tomorrow! Absolutely impressed with this phone! Haven't bought a Samsung device in about 7 years, but I think I'm gonna be sticking with Samsung for a while now!

I have the holster case from Seidio. Works on my phone with other minimal cases as well. I haven't tried it naked though.
Their is only one physical difference as far as I know. The Korean models have an antenna on the upper left of the phone. Some cases will have a small cutout in that section to allow the TV antenna to extend. Everything fits and inter changes fine though.
