I have NEVER been able to get Swiftkey to work :) - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I really want a keyboard that does better error correction. People seem to swear by Swiftkey. I bought Swiftkey 3 and as far as I can tell it does no error correction or word prediction at all. There is no bar showing possible words and I can pretty much type anything and it doesn't fix it.
Doesn't matter whether I set it on precise of sloppy - nothing.
On previous phones Swiftkey would type only gibberish. Don't know what I am doing wrong. Any Swiftkey experts out there that can help me?

Have you manually setup ALL of your swiftkey settings. There are specific settings for error correction and punctuation insertion etc. Check into the settings and maybe check the built in tutorial on learning about SwiftKey... I currently Use swiftkey FLOW and it's doing great once I set all the settings up and set it to Precise.

Whoa now it is suddenly working. Bizarre. Don't know what I did but it seems to be working now.
Oh I get it. The problem seems to be in s notes. The error correction does not seem to be working when I type there.

A better auto-correction keyboard needed!

Cant front, autocorrection on the stock keyboard sucks majorly. Is there an option to turn up the level of auto correction or do you guys know of a better keyboard? Im thinking of installing the LatinIME gingerbread keyboard. Also, i cant seem to find the option to turn off haptic feedback on tge stock keyboard.
What do you guys reccomend?
settings > language and input > hit "default Engilsh (US) - Android Keyboard)" > hit "Configure input methods" > hit the "settings icon" next to "android keyboard.
In here, there are lots of options. Vibrate on keypress, sound on keypress, etc. If you click on "Auto Correction" it has different settings. By default it is on "modest". There is "aggressive" and "very aggressive". There is also advanced settings at the bottom.
i am not sure how you type, but i have no issue with the auto correction of the stock keyboard.
in fact, i am well impressed with it as well. as there is some sort of blind type DNA in the stock keyboard, that is for sure.
I've had no problems with it so far and I'm a novice when it comes to typing on an Android phone (Even though I've been using them for 5 years) auto correct is doing its jobs worth for me.
my only issue is that I keep hitting the "b" button instead of a space because of the larger screen... and 80% of the time it fixes that automatically.
The ICS keyboard is very good IMO. The only alternative I would recommend is SwiftKeyX but I didn't like it. It was too aggressive and screwed me up more then my typing.
Seriously, are you typing without looking at the screen? I've misspelled some words pretty bad and auto correct hasn't gotten it wrong once yet for me. Not sure what you're doing...

Sometimes lol, but no seriously, i like auto capitalization of "i" and auto punctuation sometimes. I like the aesthetics of the keyboard but simple stuff like correctjng these coomon words that im tryjnh to type here and tge keyboard doesny aytocorrect. I think i type pretty fast in landscape so id like for mg simple mistakes to be corrected so im not slowed down much. I also have pretty decent sized hands so maybe that plays in as well.
Okay, i just turned off the haptic feedback and turned up autocorrection to aggressive. Howevrr, i jusg notice that there was an optkon to show suggested word corrections. I made sure it was on. However, as i tgpe no suggestions appear like tgey did on the gingerbread keyboard. Also, you can, see my mispelled words. None autocorrections were made on "aggressive" setting. Do yiu guys get auto correction suggestion popups?
I'm having same issues, a lot of words end up garbled nonsense as well. Must mean I really suck at typing on that thing but I am definitely quite a bit slower than on real keyboards like palm pre and G1.
Tgiz sentence is tyoed with autocorrection on very aggresive. As you can see i am sgill making manh mistakes and none are beinh corrected. Not one time has a suggestion popped uo and corrected my mistakes. Tge is not corrcted to "the" as yiu can still see! Am i foing somethijg wrong?
It seems so as I typed a lot of mistakes on the default keyboard with this message and they all corrected

Is your autocorrect just not working at all??
Stock keyboard would be a lot better if it was bigger. Like compare to the wp7 KB on the htc titan and androids is pathetically small. I think I'm going to take a stab at making a wp7esk KB for android...yea all current options are that bad IMO. Swype is to small, thumb KB is right size but is to slow. Might be able to go straight off of ics source...

auto correct does not work at all places.
you can define certain type of field it is to disable auto correct.
for example, when you type in password field, auto correction is disabled by default.
in browser, its set to the mode where there is no auto correction.
Swiftkey is much better keyboard but the only problem I have is the voice input with swiftkey isnt native. They have their own processing engine that returns 3 options. The google one types as you speak.
I had issues with hitting letters instead of space and it got too annoying. SwiftKey auto predict and customization is so much better.
I tried SwiftKey X as an alternative, but thought it was trying to be a tad too smart for its own good *shrugs
I've always used Better Keyboard leading up to getting my GN, however have not felt the need to upgrade from the stock ICS keyboard as yet, its doing an A+ job imo.
Looking at your passages, it looks as though auto correct isn't even turned on lol,
I can see the mistakes you're making and i make the same mistakes in my texts, emails and tweets, however ICS keyboard corrects all for me just fine
Used to use only swift key, but once I got my nexus, I stuck with the ics keyboard and just put it to aggressive and I'm liking it much better, although it was great for a stock one, aggressive is MUCH better

[Q] Which keyboard to use?

I'm surprised the standard Galaxy Nexus / ICS doesn't have a new line / enter key.
Are there any keyboards that are very similar to the stock keyboard, but instead of a smiley key it has an enter button?
I really need to use new lines in SMS messages. :C
Thumb keyboard is what I use on my tablet because its similar to stocks method of word correction but is more customisable in its layouts. I use stock on my nexus though.

Well swiftkeyX learns from the way you type, so if you end up typing any different way, it'll try to "push" you in the direction it expects you to be typing. You get a more narrowly focused autocorrect that helps for your every day 100 character tweets and SMS, but hurts in your forum posts (or other long form typing).
I still always wonder why people still use "tap" keyboards when there are swipe versions
I've personally used Swype on my last 3 Android phones and i can't envision me using anything else. It's so simple, accurate and bloody quick.

This.
I have used swype on my past few Android devices and was always SURE that it was 10x faster than any 'tap' keyboard could ever be. Upon the discovery of Swiftkey X however, I was proven very wrong. Swiftkey is incredible fast and accurate. Yes it needs optimization for the GNex but still, it's faster than anything out there at the minute.

I wanted to say something to this effect earlier. I tried swiftkey before swype and they're like chalk and cheese to me. Swype seems so much better.
I use ICS themed swype from here: http://jbthemes.com/djdarkknight/daswypethemes/
Swype is the best
I really dig SwiftkeyX. Predictions improved a lot when I linked it to my facebook and gmail accounts. Never could get the hang of swype but maybe I should give it another try.
I'd like to try swype for gnex. So where do you "download" it? Its not on the market place. I have slide it, which is garbage. Could someone put a link up for swype for the nexus?
Thanks guys.

hey there, this should be the latest...
but what you'll need to do is visit the swype beta page and sign up, you'll need your username and password and enter it when the app opens, this'll then download the GN version onto your phone then install the apk...
Can anyone confirm this?? Sorry mate, I'm just a little paranoid installing some random apk not from one of the moderators...Please dont take offence. Thank you very much for posting it up. I've thanked your post.

Samsung Keyboard Has no Auto Correct???

This is a strange one for me. When typing on the keyboard it doesn't automatically correct typos and mispellings. It does give you options to choose to correct while typing but it doesn't automatically select the correct word. I have yet to figure out how to make it select the correct word automatically. Any suggestions?
Wondering also...
searched but didn't found.
on the market i used Jelly Bean Keyboard from VLLWP wich does it.
But it's a shame to install it on a already JB phone.

And with another keyboard we lose multi-screen functionality and handwriting recognition. We lose sooooo many features just to have this. Its hard to make that jump
You said it! But jump had to be made! Using perfecy keyboard, its very good. If auto correct was there I'd stay
Darn i thought i was just missing the setting lol.. The positive part of samsung's keyboard is you can select the word and correct it with two clicks. That is really nice. It does it much better than other keyboards.

Might make my typing slower, but at least with less errors.

Sadly you just have to switch keyboards.
The Samsung keyboard is the best. I've used Swiftkey and Swype but Samsung tops both. Prediction has become better over time than Swiftkey and I thought Swiftkey was fantastic. I can write almost whole messages just by using the predictive text. I like having the numbers at the top as well as almost everything I need on the front page. I can Swype if I want. Could use a theme.

what I dislike about the samsung keyboard is that symbols like @ and exclamation point, ect... you have to press the button on the right of the space bar then a pop up appears, then when you select the symbols you want, the pop up will not go unless you press somewhere on the screen or you press the arrow down button.

i am starting to like samsung keyboard as well. not as feature rich as swiftkey or swype individually but it beats both by being able to type and swype. plus the handwriting is quite nifty, it recognises my scribbles quite well and there's not need to change your handwriting too much to accomodate it. just scribble away!

Can't Add Words to Swype Dictionary

Edit: I turned off word prediction and it works again.
I updated Swype Beta and now I can't add words to my Swype dictionary. It doesn't give me the "Add to Dictionary" option and holding the word I want doesn't bring anything up. On top of all that I can't even add words in the Swype settings. Any ideas?
The newest beta should add a word automatically once you typed it in the first time.

Strange that turning next word prediction off would do the trick... glad you found a workaround.
This sounds like an issue that would be resolved by re-installing, if you are looking for a more long-term solution, though.
I would suggest backing up your dictionary via "Backup & Sync" and then going for a fresh install of the Swype Beta.

I agree it was a strange solution, but what i noticed is with word prediction the "add to dictionary" option would flash for a second and then disappear behind the predicted word.
Other than that it worked great until i updated. After the update the option to add to dictionary was missing again. I used TB to restore the data and that fixed it for now though.
Let me know what you think.
Edit: Forgot to mention that the install prior to the update was a fresh install.

For some reason, it still doesn't work for me. I am running Android build JOP40D on Nexus 4. Swype version is 1.3.5.10176. Tried unchecking "Next word prediction" and "Detect end-of-speech" both as well as individual option. Does anyone else still see this issue?
For the lucky folks who could resolve the issue, can one of you please post your Swype and Android versions?
Thanks!
I've been having the same issue for the past few updates. I wanna say since JB 4.2.1. Wiping data or reinstalling will temporarily fix the problem, but after a day or so I'll notice words like bootloader aren't able to be swyped and I'll check the dictionary in Swype settings and it'll be blank....
I've checked the Swype forums and others have this same issue.
Also with the latest 1.4 Swype it's starting to hang when I start Swyping.

Is anyone else liking the Note 3 keyboard?

I come from Swype and recently Swiftkey and find that the Note keyboard is not bad at all.
I'm very surprised to be saying this but I am enjoying it very much. Started using it to test the one handed operation as my fingers couldn't reach the "A" key with ease and have been using it since.

After you have it set up, tap download from the main menu, then find the Samsung keyboard short delay module. Download and install it, then enable it in the modules menu. Reboot and it should be active.

Glad to help. Have fun with the note.
I really liked this keyboard and I WOULD LOVE TO USE IT but a couple things that im not sure i can let go from swiftkey. 1) the longpress duration (im not rooted yet) 2) i have my predictions backed up via cloud with swiftkey so it already knows my "language" and 3) WHICH IS THE BIG ONE, I LOVE swiping back to delete the word with swiftkey. This saves me so much time, I wish I can get that on this keyboard because I really like it and it seems to type more accurately. Swiftkey skips the 1st letter if i type the 2nd one too fast, and thats never happened to me on any other phone just this one. Anyway, sorry for the novel

I like it a lot. Especially the numbers on top. I installed the official Google Keyboard from the Play Store too. I like the big buttons on it, and if it had numbers on top I'd probably use it as default, so for now I switch back and forth when I feel like it.
I love the new N3 keyboard. The only thing that's bothering me is the small space bar. I also can't seem to find the setting that hides the symbols on the keyboard. Is there any way to get rid of that on the r mobile USA version?
