I just rooted my phone yesterday and flashed warm z 2.2 rom and i want to flash a few of the add-ons. Do i just go into recovery and install from zip? Do i need to clear anything before i do this? this topic has been discussed before but im still unclear on exactly what i do. thanks.
You don't always need to wipe, but yeah, most stuff you flash in recovery. I usually wipe Cache and Dalvik before flashing anything, no matter what it is just to be safe. You shouldn't have to wipe anything other than that.
If you let me know the specific mods, I can double check for you.
Edit: Welcome! Excellent 1st ROM selection.
Yea im just trying to get the "recent apps in notification bar" and the "Hulu" add ons. thanks again for the help.
Yeah, you flash those, although I can't find the recent apps mod, I'm sure it is a flashable zip.
Also, someone the other day had trouble with the hulu zip. If you do, let me know and I can direct you to how to manually install Hulu.
ok im waiting on my battery to charge so i can flash the "recent apps in dropdown menu" add-on to my rom. Just to be 100% clear, i can just go into recovery and hit install from zip and choose the file? Is it best to clear the cache & dalvik cache before hand or does it matter? and if i do clear them will it erase any of my apps/files? Sorry, im really new to this stuff and im trying to learn as i go.

Its best to wipe the cache and dalvik before flashing anything in recovery. And it won't delete you apps, ect. Think of it like cleaning your internet cache on your browser. And yes, after the wipe, click install zip, and then choose zip. If you flash multiple things, wipe then flash again.
Ex: wipe cach/dalvik, flash thing one, go back, wipe cache/dalvik. flash thing 2, ect. Then reboot when done.
ok thanks a lot for the help.

I know I wasn't a part of this conversation but I used it to educate myself all the same, I would hit the thanks button if I could find it. Sorry, I'm new to this...
Are you using CWM to flash? I'm new to this as well and I don't think I'll be able to wipe cache without doing a full wipe with it.

You can use CWM Recovery to Flash. Or there are several other Recoveries out there. Amon_Ra v2.3 , or SmelkusMod.

hi all, I have a nexus gt-i9250 this unlock and root for wugfresh, i install the rom aokp build 27 but my question is I want to flash james bond 1.4ghz kernel to flash a kernel is the same process as a rom or different process, sorry my English is not my native language and I'm a newbie
thanks a lot
same process. Just wipe cache and dalvik cache (under advanced) and you're good to flash!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Check my sig for more info if you ever need it.
But yes, same process.
Don't wipe data/factory reset.
Just wipe cache and dalvik cache (in advanced)
Edit:
Ninja'd.
sorry I'm wrong, i install the rom apex, has custom kernel imoseyen, now I can install the james bond, with the same process or when I have a custom kernel is different process
thanks and sorry
Nope, it is still the exact same process as everyone else mentioned. The file for the kernel will only contain what is necessary for it and replace just the kernel.
What are kernels? Which one should I get and why? I am a newbie too. I also have AOKP.

This is a kernel. You can get any one your heart desires, everybody has different preferences. LeanKernel and Franco are the most popular I would say. But the stock AOKP kernel is good.
I have a problem with the installation of JB. No matter what ROM I install, after boot, when home screen appear, my touch screen does not respond. I've tried a lot of roms and a lot of kernels. I have unlocked BL. In stock rom I have no problems.
What could be causing this? Should I format system before installing rom via recovery or just wipe data, cache and dalvik? When I should flash kernel? Before/after installing rom? I care about CM10. Plz help.
P.S. sorry for my english

I've tried to do that way but but not succeed
Certain ROMs require phone-specific patch, make sure you install it!
Other ROMs have different downloads for different phones, make sure to download correct one!
If you install wrong phone ROM, touch dies.
All question threads belong here in Q&A so please post in the correct sections going forward.
Thanks

The problem is caused by the kernal. You MUST have JB kernel to flash any JB ROM. Generally, for each ROM you will find the recommended kernel and the required steps. Do exactly like posted by OP.
As an example, see here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1979829
You can make an idea on the steps to follow.

Ok, so now I have installed Xperia T rom (7.0.A.3.195 v6.0 for ARC/ARC-S). Should I flash V77 baseband, then flash kernel from CM10 FXP150 pack via fastboot, make a wipe (data, cache, dalvik) then install ROM via Recovery, and then install GAPPS and it should work? This is what i'm gonna do, so if I'm wrong please tell me.
EDIT:
(edited in case someone had same problem)
I found the solution:
I had to flash BB 72 and libs, then flash ROM+GAPPS and libs once again, then everything works awesome. (edited in case someone had same problem)

Does flashtool show any bad blocks?? Can you see the kernel logo??
Do you wipe your dalvik cache after changing kernel? If not then the rom will probably fail.
With full wipe?
