Hi guys, does anyone know how to turn off knock on on the G3? Tried looking for it in gestures settings like in the G2 but can't seem to find it. The g3 keeps waking while in my pocket making it feels constantly warm. Anyone else experiencing this? I don't mind just using the button at the back to wake it. The placement for the button is quite comfortable actually.
I'm sorry to hear this is a problem on the g3, I have this problem on the double tap to wake code on my Nexus 5 and so I just turned it off. I know for the galaxy 2, sorry g2, voice dictation, they released firmware fix for this I think

Can you tell me how you did the wake code on the nexus 5?
And to the op, isn't there a setting in the screen gestures section of the phone to turn it off?
You can turn it off in the hidden system settings menu
Dial 3845#*855# to access it.

It is the very last setting in the list, just scroll all the way down to the bottom.
If you have the Korean model replace the 855 with 400
I turned this feature off as it will save battery life too as it needs to keep the screen driver awake happy using the back button.

855 opens my hidden menu. But I still can figure out which option to choose after scrolling down to the bottom. The screen shot shows my menu. Could u let me know which option should I be disabling?

we don't have that functionality by default, it's patched into custom kernels and eats 2-3% battery per hour (another reason I turn it off)
Just so you know, I had issues with Knock On unlocking my phone in my pocket so I turned it upside down and the issue is 100% gone !
I think it's due to the light sensor not being 100% in the dark then the taps on the lap unlocked the phone. When it's upside down the light sensor is kept in the dark
I just can't find that setting... Ive looked everywhere. My phone is rooted with towelroot. Is that the problem?

Is it really the light sensor? I think the proximity sensor would make more sense in this case! Otherwise you wouldn't be able to use the knock on feature in the darkness...
Screen wakes in my pocket whichever way up I put it in and I don't want to have the screen face outwards. This is very annoying and didn't happen on my G2 - The screen is clearly very sensitive. I don't want to turn off knock on and I don't really like knock code.

Same here. Upside up or Upside down makes no difference for me. Display from body away seems to be the only real solution...
Looks like a few of u are experiencing the same problem. I have been facing the screen away from me as a solution but it feels so awkward when I m so used to have the screen face in. And I can't find the hidden settings to turn knock on off. They really hid very well I guess.
This may be something so simple that I just can't see it but, does anyone know how do increase the display time for the lock screen? Mine only stays on about 2 seconds and for the life of me I cannot find the setting to change it. Thanks.

Under Settings look at Display and Wallpaper, in there is the screen timeout. I have set mine to 30 sec and it works perfect.
Hope this helps a little.

That seems to work for the active screens but not for the lock screen.

Do you mean the time it stays on if you press the power button but you do not unlock it? Just trying to confirm the exact time out you mean before I answer.

Not to speak for OP but yes this is what he means. It goes off after about 3 seconds in the scenario you just mentioned. Only thing that "helps" is if you have smart stay activated it'll keep the lock screen on when you're looking at it.
But the reason this drives me insane is I have some apps, especially my SMS app, set to wake the screen upon receipt of a message. Well by the time I get the phone in my hand or out of pocket the screen is turning back off.

Yep, that's my issue. If I ever get that ironed out I would like to have my dock on the lock screen as I did on my Galaxy S3 but, I don't see options for that either.

The only way to have control over the timeout period is to actually have a lock enabled. Rather it is pin, swipe, or pattern one of them must be enabled. The select Lock Automatically and then select the time you want it to stay on.
On my note 4 I noticed my screen was staying on lock screen for duration of regular screen timeout so I actually wanted the opposite of what you want. I then realized what was causing my lock screen to stay on if i pressed power button. It was the remote/peel smart widget on lock screen. If you enable it on lock screen it keeps your screen on for as long as your dimming timeout. Perhaps other lockscreen widgets might do the same.

What? ? Where is this setting at?
Im on OG5 stock unrooted, and its not under 'settungs/lockscreen '
Thanks
Peel Smart is a Samsung app used to activate the the note 4 remote control features. It allows you to use the phone as a remote for tvs, devices etc. Inside the app there is a setting to enable the app on lock screen. Thats what allows my screen to stay on while locked.

Genius! I have been uninstalling random apps and using Greenify to force apps to "sleep" in an effort to get my constantly lit screen under control... I don't know how you narrowed it to the Peel widget, but instant solution!!
I have a smartwatch and my beautiful phone has also a notification LED. Considering this, I do not want to use the lock-screen notifications at all.
Therefore, I turned OFF the lock screen notifications from the "sounds and notifications" settings menu but even now, in case of a notification or event, the screen will turn ON briefly. If the phone is in my pocket during that time and I have a trusted device nearby (my smartwatch) then the phone will unlock by randomly swiping the screen with my leg (large shorts ).
For the past few days I pulled out the phone in different languages, or with the tethering hotspot active or other randomly activated settings.
So, the 1000 points question is: how the heck can I force the 10 to not turn on the screen on notifications? I have no root and I do not intend to install one (company policy). Is there any solution? Thx.
Interesting. My screen never wakes up to show me a notification, so I'm wondering if it's app specific? I know with Textra, there's a setting to wake the screen for each text message, but I have that turned off.
It's definitely an app you're using that's turning on the screen.
I want my screen to turn on when I get a text message Im annoyed It can't

Thank you guys. It was indeed app specific. After you posted this I started looking in all the settings from all the apps with notifications access. The guilty one was Nils. There was a small switch to turn on the screen, indeed.
Thanks again.

OK, I'm puzzled by how this screen appears on my phone every now and then (see attachment). It happens when I am charging it after using it, i place it on my desk. Then the screen appears...
The thing is, I am not sure how this screen comes about (what apps is causing this screen). I have magazine unlock, so rightfully, I should see those magazine covers.
And when this black screen thingy appears, I just need to lift up my phone a bit/ or tilt it and i am in my homescreen.
Any idea?

i just checked and ya, it's OFF. so, back to square one... what screen is that?
i guess this is one issue i've seen being highlighted by users new to honor/ huawei/ emui... so many features that they are not being "documented" properly.
there's also this screen that appears every now and then. but this one, iinm, is to protect phone from be accidentally unlocked while in pocket or bag (not sure if i've actually enabled it)...

i think you're right. i checked and very likely it's the "Smart cover" under Smart assistance. Not sure if it's turned on by default. Anyway, I've turned off both options under Smart cover and will monitor over the next few days.
I just need a quick clarification whether a certain behaviour is indeed as expected or not.
For starters whether screen is on or off when I get a message from Viber or the standard messaging app etc I will get the edge lighting glow and preview thing up top...
I've installed the app to be able to activate it for all my apps. However for example with FB messenger or a game that I have, the typical edge lighting behaviour only appears when the screen is off. If the screen is on I just get the standard notification sound and the notification is just found in the drop down notification bar. No edge lighting or anything. Is this normal? Is there a way to make them also exhibit this behaviour when screen is on as well?

It's already set there on always. Like I said with viber and the standard messaging app it is ALWAYS working normally, whether the screen is on or off... but with CERTAIN apps through the 3rd party app it only works when the screen is off.

I don't know if will work in your situation but I too have struggled with getting edgelighting to work... The problem was solved when I went to developer settings and set the animations up to 0,5 instead of off, which I had chosen to get a faster phone...
