Is the only way to still modify the color of the status bar is flashing a new Rom or editing the pngs or editing the XML and recompiling?
Surley, there must be an easier way by now.

I just don't understand why we are always stuck with black.
It's a xml edit. There is no png anymore. If you tell me what rom your on or upload your SystemUI.apk I'll try and change it to whatever you guys want.

I'm currently on Gummy 1.2.2 for the toro and I've been going crazy trying to modify the background color of the softkeys. Not the glow effect, not the keys themeselves, but the actual bar they rest on. I'd like to make it white but if someone could just help me figure out how to change it to begin with it'd be greatly appreciated. I've decompiled the systemui apk and tried editing several xml's but got nowhere with it. It's driving me crazy trying to figure it out. Any help would be awesome. I've searched through the forums and had no luck thus far.

Its all in layout folder the 3 nav xmls are what your going to want to edit and it'd be the first line of each XML when you open it and if you wanna change the nav bg with images I can post the XML so you can see yourself to see what you would need to change

What are you using to decompile ? and there you go, compare my xmls with yours to do the edits i threw in the tracking xml also and thats how you go about having a custom pulldown bg,
1 pulldown back should be about 480x733 gives you a perfect image in portrait and landscape, and you take your image and name it pulldown_bg.png and save in gimp for example
2 navbar backgrounds = navbar01 =400x50, navbar02=50x400 save as png format
3. all three of those images put them in the drawable-xhdpi in sytemui
4. easy to do you should be able to do it on your own let me know if you have any troubles

I'm using an apk manager developed for Mac. I've used it to decompile, theme, and build multiple apk's from my rom. It works pretty awesome. Lol. I use that to decompile and then I use xml edit to change the xmls. I don't have a PC to run the regular apk tool on so I'm unsure if that's where my issue is.

Seems simple enough. I just edited a ton of apps throughout my rom and blacked everything out. Very minimal color with an emphasis on black and white and I think the white nav and Status bars will help keep the contrast along the theme flowing. I can't wait to get home and try it out. Thanks again for the help.
Edit... well it was a no go for me. Cannot figure this out. Here's the xml's that I'm starting with.

Do you need to be on a custom ROM to be able to do this? Or will stock root work? Also did you replace your navbar background with an image or just changed the color? I am trying to do this but systemui crashes. Any help would be appreciated.
I'm trying to change the text color of whats in the status bar such as clock, date, when "media scanner" pops up and all that stuff. Does anyone know where I could find that .xml?
Edit: so I found out how to get all the writing that shows on the left side but where would I find the clock color's .xml?

If you use AOKP you don't need to edit anything and change the colors easily through settings.
Unless your planning to do this on TW or making a theme?

The ics theme is a great example of the clock color. And I even tried mixing some xmls and stuff from that one into my themes and sometimes it worked but I never figured out what it was exactly.

To change the clock color you need to decompile the classes.dex file in system UI. There is one line in the clock.smali that needs to be changed. I don't remember what line number it was though.

system/app folder of the rom....
Use apktool to decompile the apk and you'll see the icons there, to break it down even further
If the rom your on doesn't currently have the battery percent then you'll also need to modify stat_sys_battery.xml and stat_sys_battery_charge.xml which is in res/drawable to look for all the additional png's. If your not sure what I'm talking about or how to do it let me know and I'll upload the right xml's for you.

I was hoping I could've used uot kitchen but that never worked. I'm going to mess around again tonight. The rom I'm currently on still has everything factory as far as the status bar goes. Dumb question. I know u can't flash the i9300 Rome to the att version but what about themes?

I wouldn't recommend using them unless there using something like the Villain Theme System which only replaces the images and some xml's instead of replacing the entire apk. I just got home so give me a few and I'll send you the xml's you need to use and you 'll be fine.

I even tried yours to just see where edits where made maybe thinking I could make zip but nothing worked. The closest I got was with apk manager. Im dumb though and just literally installed notepad++ now. Wish I had yesterday. My desktop looks like my kids room. Lol

What tint are you talking about? I don't notice it.
There is a tint of your notifications that come in the top left of the screen. I believe it takes away a lot of the good looks of touchwiz roms. When the tint is removed I believe it looks so much better
The correct way to do it is decompile the SystemUI.apk, then in the values folder open the dimens.xml.
Edit line 25 and 26 and change the % to 100.0% on both lines and recompile.

Can someone help me or point me in the right direction for editing a theme? I want the Cobalt theme to have transparent status bar, transparent system backgrounds(dialer, settings...etc) just like the HoloGlass Beta but with all the nice stuff from Cobalt(https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dustinb.theme.cobalt) (HoloGlass https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mix3d.theme.hologlass.beta)
I'm still trying to figure this out, I've decompiled both themes, copied like 50 images from cobalt(signal, wifi...etc) to hologlass overwriting the originals, edited preview and changed the default wallpaper then recompiled, signed it, installed but the only thing that I can tell is different is the default wallpaper, everything else is the same, the preview didn't even work, just shows a red X....I don't understand.
If it's a system app you don't want to sign it. You need to preserve the original signatures if I remember correctly. Utilities like apk multi tool can do this for you when it's time to recompile. Could that be the problem?

Well I was wrong, It mostly worked, most things changed except WiFi and signal bars(Which was one of the main features I wanted from cobalt) Maybe it would be easier just to take the transparent stuff from holo glass and put it into cobalt? Idk but I still need help with this...

It depends on what you're theming. I'm just guessing but the status bar is probably in the SystemUI.apk or SecLauncher2.apk. so to theme it would require modding the correct system app.
