Best e4gt rom? - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello All,
I just got my 3rd replacement epic 4g touch this evening. Ive been wanting to tinker with custom roms since i first got this thing, but i finally got one without the eMMC brickbug!
i need one that's very stable. I've had good luck with CM on my previous htc devices, but i haven't used it in awhile, and I'm kind of nervous flashing a beta. Whats your opinion on it?
I've been very interested in some of the other ones I've come across.
What's your favorite ROM for this thing?
Edit:
I should add that i prefer roms that have nothing to do with touchwiz our any other carrier mods, wifi hotspot functionality is a nice plus, i miss custom lock screens, and everything else is almost just a luxury.

The answer does not reside in these XDA forums, the answer lies in your heart.

Try the sense 5.0 rom with the jellybean kernel. That's the best hands down

Hi Johnny, unfortunately these threads go downhill fast so I (we, the mods) don't allow them. Please read up and see which particular one you would like to try, then flash a few and see for yourself. Different roms, kernels, combos, etc. usually perform different for different users also. All you can do is try them out. Thank you. :highfive:

So I'm going to be getting the GS3 pretty soon and when I get it the first thing I'm going to do is root, so with that being said I am asking for recommended ROMs. I am comming from the htc evo shift 4G, I tend to stick to sence roms(don't know if you guys have that here though). I have played with Samsung Galaxies in the past and I have never been impressed with there setup, it made me feel like I was using one of the roms from the $100 tablets at toys are us. I am also not found of launchers.

Best thing to do is cruise the rom thread, check a few out. Read what users are saying and flash it. Thats best way to find what your personally gonna like.

Yeah we don't have sense ROMs.
You could go with aokp/cm10/cna/pacman/paranoid android/.

I love CM10!
Really great roms here. Take time to check them out! I'm currently using paranoid android for the killer feature to set custom dpi for individual apps; taking full advantage of the screen size and resolution!
Like in the Shift with Sense versus AOS/KP, we pretty much have Touchwiz versus AOS/KP. Play with Touchwiz, if you like it stick to one of those Roms. I personally do like it and stick with Odexed Blue.
Try The People's Rom.. Along with Morphology, you can customize it anyway you like. It's amazing overall rom. And welcome to the family! The folks here are glad to help, just be sure to search anything before you ask, and post in appropriate thread.
Welcome
Welcome to the SIII family, like everyone has said browse around the ROM sections and look for what you might like. Its really a matter of personal opinion and what most people will tell you is strongly biased, so look around for yourself. Rooting is easy and if you adhere to the guidelines, you shouldn’t ever end up with a hard brink. DOUBLE CHECK MD5 FILE HASHES!!!
That's my input.

I need a stable Rom

Hey, i tried out JellyBam and i keep getting weird things like internet connection problems and sometimes it will go into safe mode. Can someone tell me which roms will be good for a daily driver with the least amounts of bugs?

I personally got freegs3.... Love the stock look and very stable.

I love using Team Sonic-FreeGS3. I started using them from their JBv1 and currently on v3. I have yet to have any major issues with it.

Well it depends, most roms will be fine if they are <= the version of the current Samsung release, but if they are higher, than you can expect things like 4G and some other misc things not working because these things have to be built from source and its harder to get working when there is no foundation to work off of. Just a general tip for any Android phone
Sent from my PG06100
ROMs are very personal preference oriented. I could tell you that FreeGS3 is awesome, but you could find things that you don't like about it.
Everyone has their own preference.
The idea is to either find the one that you like JUST ABOUT everything in and everything that YOU do works in it and stick with it or eventually just make your own. I'm going to guess that you're not quite that informed on the topic of cooking ROMs. Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not saying you're incompetent in any way, just drawing the conclusion that if you were attuned to it, you'd probably not be asking here and already be making it the way you like Besides, it's no easy feat, I know.
So, instead of taking someone else's word... I would suggest simply getting a good Titanium Backup of your stuff and start swapping out ROMs here and there and just trying them out for a day or two, see how it works out.
If it's not quite what you want, just try another one.
Now if you care for my opinion, personally, I've found that FreeGS3 works for me because it has a nice mix of the Stock Look and Feel with all the extra added feature sets.
I recommend team shotgun! The best rom it has all the Google apps stocked!

Custom Stock ROM

Hey I was looking to see if there's a stock themed rom with all the stock features but custom modifications to make it have much better performance? Like with an even higher benchmark than real stock. I've found one but it had horrible performance on my phone... Not just benchmark related performance.. But anyone know a really good one? Sonics version hated my phone.. Clean flash every time

I was looking at it but it's not very stock themed.. What are the quadrant benchmarks like?
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
I used Wicked Sensation previously. The battery life is excellent and it's fairly fast although I never did an actual benchmark test. I had the anaconda theme on top of it and I thought it looked nice. I prefer minimal themeing but if you don't like any of the blue ones I would go with this.

Try seeder app, it might help

Give The People's Rom a shot.. and can use Morphology with it if you choose to make some changes. Battery life is outstanding (most users will agree) plenty of performance options, 4 Kernel choices, (sure more to come) you'll enjoy it or your money back

Go for it.. You may find you like it.. Once you flash, head over to Morphology thread.. can make it purty that way
I think I will, at least to compare. Morphology works on both ROMs, so that's cool. I think so many of these threads get shut down, and it's a shame. For me, I'd like to see some comparisons of the different ROMs. Pros/Cons, maybe a poll on what ROM reigns supreme at this point in time, etc.
I realized FreeGS3 has, by far, the most activity in the thread. However, it's been open since July. People's doesn't have that many but it's only been opened since November. It makes it challenging when trying to actually compare and see which ROMs are actually the most popular overall.

I also came from the evo lte about 2 months ago. So far this has been a better phone for me. After having a galaxy vibrant, I swore to never own another Samsung phone. I was definitely an HTC fan for over 2 years but was the evo lte was a disappointment to me. I think you're going to be happy with the s3.

[Q] Flashing Addiction

So I've noticed I spend hours a day on XDA and flashing new ROMS. Just when I think I am settled with one, more threads and new ROMS come out with raving positive feedback and i'm like damn... Let's try it! How many flashes do you do a week and how, when looking at all the roms xda do you choose between one or another. Thanks!
Oh god, I check xda all the time looking at the new ROMs, checking for updates. I change ROMs all the time, its hard to stay on one cus there are so many good ones for our phones. Right now I'm on a 4.2.1 kick and have tried them all at least once. I like to try what's new. I also have a nexus 7 so I'm constantly checking that forum too for ROMs and updates. Its a sickness that I don't mind having.

Haha, so I'm not the only one! I probably flash 3 roms a week, but I've been pretty hung up on PA, since it's the only rom (to my knowledge) that has tablet ui. PA @ 2ghz is BEAST! Wonderful lag free experience

[Q] Yet another what's the best rom thread: ICS and stable?

Greetings everyone,
I would like to start off by apologizing for bothering you folks with yet another "what's the best ROM for having X and doing Y" thread, although I felt that after searching I had a rather specific criteria, which I'm hoping someone may be able to address.
I have been using Virtuous Affinity for awhile now, and frankly I'm starting to feel old It seems like ICS has been out forever while I'm still on gingerbread. I am a little unclear on what the official status is of ICS support though; I thought I remembered hearing some talk about HTC potentially having an ICS based update in the works, although past that I know nothing. Browsing around, I'm a little discouraged by some of the known issues ICS roms may have; no camera support, broken audio/bluetooth, things like that.
What I would optimally like to have is a fully functioning ICS ROM. Stable, good performance, nice on the battery, etc. etc. UI wise, I have become accustomed to HTC's Sense UI, but even then I'm very foggy on what the differences are between their major versions (I've been hearing of 2.0 and 3.0). To be honest though, I wouldn't mind trying a new UI. I've liked the one Samsung puts on their Galaxy SIII.
Above all, stability is my goal. I'm not too comfortable with the trailblazing "nightly" builds and testing ROMs; having a working phone is pretty important to me. Now you might say, "Well, why even root to begin with?" Okay, I like to experiment a little bit
But I digress. What is there in the wonderful and magical world of ROMs?
P.S. I think it would be really useful if there was a sticky going something like "State of the ROM", which pulls together a list of ROMs and highlights their features and issues in an easy to compare manner (so a step up from the currently stickied ROM compilation thread)
Right now chillybean's paranoidPAC
And preludedrew's Evervolv I can recommend
Viper and MIUI are both ICS and have everything working so far

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! I suppose I might want to give Evervolv a shot (Wifi is fixed I hope?) although I'm a little unclear about installing it. Most OPs post a tutorial for flashing ROMs, and while I would feel a little more comfortable flashing Evervolv on my own, it seems like there a new hoops you have to jump through for flashing ICS/JB roms. Could anyone guide me through the steps?
If you are rooted and have installed a custom recovery, go ahead and download the ROM of your choice, then install it from the recovery using install zip from SD card, then install the correct Google apps whether 4.2 gapps or 4.1 gapps
After that you restart and wait for the room to boot.
I highly recommend installing crossbreeder after the first boot, and then you are done!!!
If you want concider v6 supercharging your phone or what i used NOS

Why would you start by apologizing. You are acknowledging that this is redundant. Read the threads that are already there. You aren't asking anything new. And even if you were, you could ask in an existing thread. And if the rom doesn't give specific instructions it means you flash it the same way as any other. Read the op in the thread for each rom and try usually state what works and doesn't.

I'm not trying to be a butt head. I'm still learning too. But if you already know the question has been asked (and answered) multiple times... Read the answers that are there.

I think you might be misunderstanding my OP... Yes, I am aware that the general form of the question has been asked, although I wanted to see how the community felt about the priorities I put forth in looking for a ROM (hence why I later suggested that a sticky stacking the ROMs against each other with their features and flops would be useful). I realize now that a lot of the ICS roms don't exactly meet what I was looking for anyways, and that I would have to take some relatively larger risks. Alas, I am going forth with trying one of the suggested ones.
And I believe asking in another thread would be considered hijacking by most forums? I see it's not explicitly mentioned in the rules, although I would expect people to keep questions to their own threads as a matter of courtesy.
I sometimes forget people can't hear the tone my tone of voice when I type. I meant laying down the law in a good way.
To the OP. Perhaps you would like to work on your suggested project of comparing the roms and once then we can all add our input to your list?

I didn't take it negatively. And your suggestion is spot on with what I was about to reply. Something my pastor says when people come to him with new ministry ideas, "that sounds great, I'm putting you in charge of that committee." Usually people want stuff done but want someone else to do it.
People don't generally make those threads because like this one they get redundant. The features are listed in the rom thread. Questions pertaining to the rom are asked in that thread. If someone wants to make a thread like you suggest that's fine, but what happens is someone comes in and instead of reading the rom thread they start asking questions in the new thread that have been answered already and the op constantly has to refer people to go read that thread.
