I use google voice for all calls. The outgoing calls I make with google voice are saved in the call log with the intermediate number that google voice generates. It is a known problem with touchwiz. It does not happen if I install CM10 ROM.
Does anyone have a fix for it?
Is there a ROM available with other features of touchwiz, but this problem fixed.
I like the stock ROM with touchwiz and dont want to go with AKOP or cyanogenmod.
The ATT version of Jelly Bean (4.1.1) has a bug where Google Voice integration with the dialer is broken. When you use google voice to make calls, the dialer shows (and records in the call log) the google voice proxy number and not the number you are dialing of the contact you are dialing.
According to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35616192&postcount=29
Some users (on Verizon?) are seeing it work correctly. This leads me to believe that some builds of 4.1.1 for the S3 may have this functioning correctly.
Some questions:
Does anyone know of any ROMs for the S3 that have the correct behavior with Google voice that work on ATT?
Can we take the dialer from the Verizon S3 and use it on an ATT S3?
Any other suggestions for resolution?

any of the stock I 747M Canadian ROMs will display the correct telephone number in the call log when using Google Voice. It's not a bug. It's a sales code feature for the AT&T build. Was the same on ICS
does anyone know if it works with i9300 stock 4.1.1 ROM?
A work around is to install an app called "GVoice callback" from amazon app store. It is not there in android play store.
In GVoice callback settings check auto answer, and sign in with your google voice account.
In google voice app settings set as to never use google voice
Now when you dial a number, GVoice callback will use google voice to call your number and then connect to the person you are calling. It will automatically answer that call, so you are connected.
The call log will only show the original number you dialed.

Does this mean there's a way to undo/reverse that code? I' dont' quite understand what a "sales code feature" means.
And I can confirm that using a Canadian ROM on my S3 with ATT makes it function correctly.

Is there any catch/issue using the Canadian ROM on S3/ATT? Which particular one do you use?
The stock ATT ICS worked pretty well except for the google voice call log issue.
Thanks.

It just means that it's just another stupid, nonsensical software build characteristic that AT&T has chosen to give to their build of the ROM, likely in the pursuit of every last nickel.
The AT&T and Canadian versions are essentially the same ROM. You can just tweak the build characteristics by changing the Sales Code on the build.prop, others.xml, and a few other files. If you take all the /system/csc and build.prop, and a few other files from the Canadian version and copy them over to the Att version of the ROM, not changing a single .apk, you will get nearly the Canadian version on your phone "magically". The dialer will have a SMS button where the voicemal button is on the att rom, again without changing apks....and Google Voice will function properly on the call logs.
You could modify the apk by decompiling it and editing the correct smali files to make the SecPhone.apk build characteristics the same on an ATT rom as they are on a canadian version....but it's a ton easier just to run the i747M rom. It's a good one
There are no ill effects of running the Canadian Rom on an att gs3 and on the att network, as far as I know and I've been running it for a while. Just make sure your APNs are correct to get the best signal.
I have just been running it since yesterday. I think the battery is better in the Canadian ROM. I didnt like the look of CM10. I prefer the looks of touchwiz calendar and alarm. Moreover the gallery sync with picassa never worked with CM10.

I flashed the Canadian ROM mentioned in this thread, and then flashed the model UCLI5 from the link above (my stock phone did indicate that UCLI5 was used). After that, I had to go to mobile network search once to find ATT, and I notice that only wap.cingular is listed as access point.
1) I kind of feel my mobile reception is worse --- is that expected? or maybe just today's weather is bad ..
2) How do I get back LTE access point? Can I dictate which ap to use (disable LTE when traveling into hiking areas...)
I can verify that the call log shows the correct number (not the weird google voice relay number). However, Google voice's "display voice mail in call log" feature seems not displaying the old voice mails as it does in CM10. Btw, does this Canadian ROM support OTA? Or is it a good idea to get OTA after all (the only benefit as I see, is to avoid data wipe?).
Thanks.
I didnt flash the modem. My modem version is UCDLK3

You need one of the dialers that will allow this, either the ATT dialer ( have not seen a cab for it) or the 2g leo dialer.

The reason being that the other networks do not allow voice and data at the same time so the dialers are set to cancel the data connection when a call comes in so you dont miss calls

Yes you need 3g to do both. The reason it is called a 2g dialer is due to no video calling in the dialer. it will change the look of the dialer due to being a different one. no prob
I'm also in ATT network, using NRG Phoenix Rom (Jan 15, Standard, v.21889) and using 4.49.25.88 radio. Did a quick test yesterday by starting a download from mediafire and then calling my own number from another line, and had no problem finishing the download. I couldn't notice if downloading was interrupted during the phone call, but I don't think Mediafire supports pausing a download.
So maybe the issue is something different than the dialer.

The easiest way to test this is to make a call to say your voice mail and then try to connect to the internet or receive email

can you please try and post what happens when you dial someone, connect the call, then try and initiate a data connection such as opera? I think initiating is a problem. I've also had opera open, received a call, then been unable to use data. So in that case, the phone was already connected to data then added voice, and then lost data...so maybe still the dialer?
I'm going to likely flash to a new version of energy this weekend so maybe that'll take well and get rid of the issue. In the meantime, i'll try the dialer and post back if that helped.

Hey, BTW, i searched for your ROM here but didn't find a page for it with screenshots and such...where is it?
RingPlus is a Sprint MVNO who offers Sprint service at insanely affordable prices.
I modified the apns-conf.xml that was uploaded by octhrope to work on Ting (another Sprint MVNO) so that those of us on RingPlus could get some 4G LTE action on custom ROMs.
The following zips are flashable in recovery and each one should make a backup of your current apns-conf.xml should you need to revert. It saves it as a .bak file in the same location - you only need to go rename the old file to get your apns bak (See what I did there?)
The 4.4 APN file is the only one I have personally tested. I can confirm it works to provide 4G LTE (as well as 3G) on PSX, Rastacat and OMNI.
Thanks to the following xda users for figuring out the Ting APNs and indirectly helping me solve the issue for R+:
octhrope, poo706 and t3rmin

Well... Register the phone on the website. Put money in your account. You'll probably need to do this on the Stock ROM... Activate your phone. Update PRL and Profile. If you want MMS to work, you'll have to dial ##DATA# and edit the MMSC to the one used by Ringplus. They charge $.07 per MMS and MMS aren't included in any of the plans.
Then if you so desire, flash another ROM and use the file I posted to update your APN so that data/MMS will work.

Ringplus is another of the many Sprint MVNOs offering 4G service. However, I couldn't get data to work at all outside of the Stock ROM. After a couple hours of digging around inside ##DATA# and the Mobile Settings and playing around with Poo_706's Ting APNs, I finally figured out how to get 4G working on Ringplus. Wanted to share it with the world.
This is confirmed working on Rastacat. I assume it will work on any 4.4 ROM. I'm about to test PSX and see if it works there, too.
Theoretically this should flash in recovery, but if it doesn't, try extracting the apns-conf.xml and replacing the one in System -> etc. Be sure to set permissions to rw-r--r--.

The first five lines are almost identical to the Ting APNs I borrowed from you and/or poo706. The only thing I changed was the apn name: Sprint uses the apn "n.ispsn", Ting uses the apn "n.t8.ispsn" and Ringplus uses the apn "n.r5.ispsn".
I didn't check to see if that was enough to fix it, but did notice in my APN settings that the protocols were IPV4 on stock, so I added the bottom two lines and pretty much copied exactly what my stock APNs showed up as using an app to look at the APN settings. I changed the protocols from "IPV4V6" to just "IPV4".
Small changes, but the Ting APNs didn't give me ANY data at all (neither did the stock APNs for Kit Kat). I only had Wi-Fi. Using these I have working 1x, 3g and LTE (depending on location)

I agree that the apns-conf.xml on stock is completely useless. Mine was pretty much blank and had no correlation to the data settings on my phone. I used "APN Settings Shortcut" to see what the actual APN settings were that were giving me a data connection on stock, and then translated that information into the apns-conf.xml I used for my 4.4 ROM.
I couldn't figure out how to change the install manifest or whatever it was, so I just left it alone. lol If you want to change it for me, that would be much appreciated.
By the way, in case I haven't clarified yet I'm extremely grateful to you, poo706 and t3rmin for paving the way on the APN settings. I wouldn't have figured it out without being able to look at your work.

Who knows. It works for Rastacat and PSX (both 4.4 ROMs) :victory: . I could probably pinpoint which changes made it work, but I'm lazy.

Are you talking about getting it to activate on the Ringplus website or getting your phone to activate the service?
Getting the website to activate my phone took me a couple tries. I kept typing in the ICCID wrong... Double check the numbers.
Just FYI, you have to get Ting to release your phone before Ringplus will let you add it. Unfortunately, Ting doesn't hold your number once it releases your phone, so if you go this route, you're going to get a new number.
Ringplus will let you port your number for $7. But in order to get this to work you either:
A) Activate a different device with Ringplus so that you can port your number, then switch devices.
B) Switch devices on Ting so that you can activate with Ringplus, then once you have the correct device, port your number and cancel your Ting account.
C) Pay $20 to port your number to Google Voice, then another $7 to port to Ringplus...
If you have an extra Sprint device laying around, you're golden... If not, you can still be golden if you have $20 and a lot of patience to wait for ports to go through... Otherwise you can be like me and just change your number haha
Yeah. It wouldn't accept the ESN. Said that it's not on the system. I called Ting and they said they already released the phone from their network.
Is there another way to see our ESN besides looking into the About section? Maybe it's displaying wrong....I don't know. Ringplus woes. Lol

Yeah. It wouldn't accept the ESN. Said that it's not on the system. I called Ting and they said they already released the phone from their network.

Try the MEID Dec under About Phone... That's what worked for me.
Finally got this phone on. Woohoo! For the price tag, I love this service!
With the new APN file, nothing is showing when I open up the APN option in voice dialer, but when I put back the old one, a list of them show. Any ideas?

Yeah, the price point is PERFECT.
What version of Android are you on? I added flashable ZIPs for 4.1-4.2 / 4.3 / 4.4
I can confirm the 4.4 zip works on PSX, Rastacat and OMNI

It just miraculously started working. Go figure. The only thing that's boggling my mind is the MMS. Keeps telling me service is not activated. Crazy.

Have you updated your MMSC address?
If so, I think you may have to have some money in your account. MMS costs $.07 each and aren't included in the plan rates. I couldn't get them to send either, but after adding money to my account it went through. Perhaps that was the issue?
I just got a Galaxy tab S 10.5 LTE with model number SM-T805W, with Videotron in Canada.
1- There is no dialer pre-installed on the tablet, I found a google dialer.apk, but is crashes anytime I want to make a call, do I need to install any other apk to make calls?
2- If I want to install any of the roms on this forum, would any rom for the SM-T805 work or do I need a rom specifically for the SM-T805W? Same goes for the recovery image, the recovery images for the T805 work on the T805W?
Thank you!

Looks like theres no calls pal somebody else asked also.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/lte-frequencies-supported-t805w-canadian-t2913726
Ive looked for specs for t805w and theres only specs for t805 which i have, i mean they look exactly the same, its a small risk and someone may disagree but out of the interest in bypassing that kind of a restriction it woyld be worth testing and could help many others in future, if anything goes wrong ill guide you into restoring it back to how it was....but yeah if youve done this before you should be fine..,just make a backup first though is all i advise.
Hey I'm running a t805w on the Bell network and haven't had a single issue using anything designed for the t805. I'm currently running supersamsung rom with skyhigh kernel and philz recovery. Lte works great, but voice calls are a no go. Supersamsung rom has the dialer preinstalled, but trying to dial out causes a force close. Sms works fine. Not sure if the lack of voice calls is because of the tablet, or if it could be carrier related. Maybe someone with more knowledge could add some insight. As always perform a backup (including efs) before flashing anything.
There you go m8 confirmation all works ok from other roms...shame about dialling calls though...if its capable physically of 3g lte n so on, n shows network, then the only logical conclusion is the basic firmware of the phone, as in pre kernal level.,the bios basically, theyve done something...now...cloning a t805 bios to a t805w maybe devs??? Lmao never gonna happen, but yeah sammy have restricted it with software, unless theres a physical difference that makes an antenna pick up 3g,lte, send txts but no calls regardless of firmware which i doubt then thats my opinion.
Just confirming for anyone else looking for this, I've flashed twrp 2.7.1.1 (for the T805), and recovery works as it should.
I can also confirm that even with a T805 rom, calls are not working. In te call logs, I see all calls I tried to make as canceled, dialing brings me directly to the call ended message.
Thank you all for your support!

Hi, I used the WEPHONE app and the dialer and 805 worked great, good audio as good as land line, in Canada cost p/m is $0.005. Bell blocked dial out and texting at my request because they texted me about 9 times and then charged 20 cent per message, apperently they did not make enough money on the contract. I never tried to use it as a cellphone though. My Contact list worked as well with the wephone app

Hoy hoy, my point and goal in this post is to get an answer for my question here. As well as a quick result to a Google search for anyone looking.
Text now is selling a galaxy s 3 for 99$. I had the T 999 model for T-Mobile and had good luck. But I know all too well the hazards of root.
So according to the info here, in the attached photos would I be in the right place. Also text now runs all the calling and texting thru data 4Glte so data is gone at 2Gb at that point there its all gotta be WiFi. Yam

You're in the right place
Im unsure if I will be able to use the native dialer. The stock Rom from this carrier always routes the calls thru the text now app. I have the bars for tower signal but it seems I won't be able to make calls unless I've a data connection, which will shut off completely once the allowed data is used. Then only works on wifi.
Am I doing something wrong or am I stuck with volte voice over lte?
And will this be changed during flash.
Any known hazards?

That you have modified the system
Okay well that makes sense because the phone number in settings and about phone is different than the phone number in text now and text now has rerouted any dials even from the native dialer over to their app to make calls. I wonder if I flash different ROM that has a native dialer allowed that I would call from the number in settings?
This root and flash will be very interesting I wonder what will happen I will definitely be posting the outcome.
I'll try and flash is stable rom and hope for the best

I went ahead and flashed an older Rom from 2013 the APN was not working properly. I should've pulled a log but didn't think of it. So I nand restored via cwm. Upon reboot I had two impassable errors logs providers stoped and android prosses.acore stopped surely the apn and latter issues are unrelated. Still I'm going to try and find a way around the apn issue. If it happens again (likely so) ill be sure to have a logcat .zip to flash as so not wasting time. Any suggestions for apn backup/restore apk's are helpfull. Thanks and sorry for the faulty question with no log for help to go on. Ill make sure I have one if I post again.
Hi,
after using the CM13 for awhile, I need to find working replacement.
Honestly CM13 was slower and less responsive compared to CM12 on the Maguro.
However I need working and up to date ROM to install Android Auto, working GPS, ability to use Play Store.
I'm not keen to use latest the greatest as I have also Nexus 6, where I run 7.1.1
Maguro is mainly used for car navigation, I need at least Android 5 based one.
Thanks all!

I have a pair of recommendations for you and your maguro GNex; both are N-based, at that.
There is Unlegacy 7.1 (AOSP-based 7.1), which is - for now - the ONLY 7.1 or later-based ROM that can be reliably installed clean. The usual prerequisites apply (root and third-party recovery - I've used TWRP extensively with this ROM, and all versions from 2.7.1.0 to 3.0.2.0 will work with it). My other recommendation is PureNexus 7.1.1; contrary to Unlegacy, it should be installed as an upgrade - in other words, do NOT wipe before installing. You can install the newer GApps along with the ROM the same way, or let the update process handle GApp upgrading - both methods, in fact, work.
Which you should choose may well depend on whether or not you want either GoogleAssistant and/or Pixel Launcher. Pixel Launcher is, in fact, included with PureNexus 7.1.1 - as is Google Assistant; Google Assistant is addable to Unlegacy 7.1; however, I could not get Pixel Launcher to install on it. Pixel Launcher WILL work with Google Assistant - PureNexus is plenty of hard data on that front. What I like about PureNexus is that it has a lot of customization designed-in - including options that no other firmware offers; it reminds me a lot of Object Desktop for Windows, to be honest.
Both Unlegacy and PureNexus are unified; they will install the same way on any version of tuna-based hardware - maguro, toro, and toroplus (GSM, CDMA, and W-CDMA/Sprint, respectively) You would no more lose features by not running on toro hardware than I do by not running on maguro hardware..

The original developer has maguro; however, it was developed as neutral; there are (literally) no maguro-isms in the code (I myself have toro hardware, and the phone in question is ex-VZW and is on the VZW-powered half of Tracfone's network).

Thanks! On the other hand: One could try to use Google Translate for translations from Japanese to English. This might be better than nothing.
That's a damn fast ROM! Really enjoyed it.

The same main developers created CM 12, CM 13, and Unlegacy 7.1, so those are what I would suggest! Not many choices!
So far Unlegacy 7.1 is far better handling than CM13. I'm impressed

How's mobile network stuff working for you? I've got a toro on Page Plus (which is now also using 'the VZW-powered half of Tracfone's network'). I had been trying to get mobile data working on unlegacy-7.1, but I gave up a while ago. My daily driver had been cm13, but when Page Plus changed their APNs to tracfone, it broke mobile data and it took me better than a week to figure out what was going on. I got sick of it and switched to unlegacy-4.4 (which is a great ROM, by the way).
tl;dr: Do mobile data and mms work for you on a toro on tracfone?

I am not a fan of mobile data (as I don't get that much of it) - in fact, I prefer wi-fi (not mobile data) as I am almost ALWAYS near either a hotspot or a router; for that reason, I can't really reply to that question. I've never had issues with either SMS or MMS on Unlegacy or PureNexus for Tuna (which I installed as an upgrade from Unlegacy). Are you, in fact, aware that MMS and SMS CAN be used over wi-fi (yes; Google Hangouts supports the feature)?

Sure, I can send MMS from hangouts over WiFi, but when people send group messages / MMS to my mobile phone number? Only way to receive them is over mobile data. Unless I'm missing something, and there's a way to receive MMS's to your phone number over WiFi with Page Plus? But even if I could, I don't have access to WiFi at my day job.
Ouch

If you are in a situation where you can only be called (job-wise), usually, calling you would ALSO be a bad move - basically, if you can only be reached via mobile (voice or data), unless it's work-related, doing so would ALSO be of the bad - correct? It's also why if someone wants to MMS/SMS me, via my e-mail address (which is the default) is preferable to using my phone number - also, there are people that actually find easier to MMS/SMS me that I would rather NOT have call me. (It's an old habit from using older MMS/SMS clients - such as Yahoo Messenger - I only give out my phone number to those I am willing to actually talk to on a phone. In other words, instead of phone-number-based MMS/SMS, use your GMail-based address instead - which will help keep your mobile-data bill down. There SHOULD be a setting - either in Messaging or Hangouts - as to which to use by default. (Such a setting is NOT in Messenger.)

Of course you are right, and the phone gets ignored while I'm at work unless it's something urgent. But I'm not about to change my cell number to an 'unlisted number' that only a select few people know, and force all my friends and acquaintances to use another service to contact me. And people WILL send MMS's, usually apple users who cannot grasp why I wouldn't be able to get their 'group messages'. "You didn't get the message? Why not? You should just get an iphone!" Makes me sick.
But saying "you can mostly replace MMS with another service that uses WiFi" is different than saying "You can send and receive MMS over WiFi". And last I checked, neither mobile data nor MMS works on unlegacy-7.1 on toro.
So for now, I've replaced cm13 with unlegacy-4.4 and everything is working great. Once the SELinux stuff is straightened out with unlegacy-7.1 I will probably revisit that and see if I can get everything working.

That is why I asked what APP are you using for MMS. If you are using a phone-specific MMS app, it won't work over wi-fi (Messaging is such an example). Hangouts, however, does work over wi-fi (I have Hangouts on my tablet because it WORKS on it; Messaging does not). For messaging (and especially because I have both an Android tablet AND an Android phone - and I've had the tablet the longest) I tend to go with tablet-capable messaging apps - not ones that only work with phones. (Phone-specific apps in general are, in fact, my biggest gripe with Android as a platform.) MMS and SMS are not platform-specific in and of themselves - individual apps, however, can be. (Messaging is phone-specific; however, Hangouts isn't. That is, in fact, why I recommend Hangouts as a Messaging replacement - it's not limited to phones.) Messenger isn't limited to phones, either (not Facebook Messenger, but Google Messenger). This is, unfortunately why both app choice AND platform choice can matter. Therefore I can recommend either Hangouts or Google Messenger (for two reasons - neither is limited to phones OR to mobile data). So don't change your firmware; that's not the problem. - just use a different MMS and/or SMS app.

Actually, I use Signal as my messaging app. It uses WiFi if the messages are between Signal users. But no matter what app I use, if somebody sends an MMS to my mobile number, there's no way to get it other than to actually have mobile data and MMS working. No app that I've ever heard of can access Verizon's MMS servers and retrieve messages from there over WiFi. Except Verizon Messenger, But that's only available to on-contract customers, not prepaid MVNO users like me. When Hangouts sends messages to non-hangouts users, they are sent using a completely different phone number, and I don't want that either.
Anyway, this discussion started as a simple question of "Does MMS work for you?" which you've answered, "No." We obviously have different communications needs.
