Desktop Wifi Tethering - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hello all,
I wanted to write this little guide for those of you who haven't figured out how to keep the desktop view when tethering on your laptop or desktop computer using T-m.... I try not to have many keywords referring to our providers so this keeps a secret among us, if you are reading this you know what network Im talking about. I've been using this method for a while now with no problems at all.
I AM NOT IN ANY WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR ANYTHING THAT HAPPENS FROM THE RESULTS OF THIS MODIFICATION.
This works with google chrome. I haven't tried, but Im sure it should work with firefox as well.
Open Chrome:
-Go to this link Chrome Agent Switcher.
-After installing the add-on you should see a little mask to the right of the address bar on your chrome browser.
-Click on the mask and click Settings.
-Create a new custom user agent, name it anything you want, but as the user agent string put this "Mozilla/5.0", group name could be anything you want as well.
-Click Add
-Restart Chrome (this is probably unnecessary but it just feels right lol)
-Click the mask again and choose the new user agent you just created.
-Restart Chrome again (this is probably unnecessary but... you know lol)
-You should now be able to browse the web again with desktop view.
**Sometimes the first time you open Chrome you'll receive the "T-m..." page. Dont mind this just navigate to the page you want and all should be good from there.

Touc Pro 2 going to mobile version of web pages -why???

I love my TP2 (vodafone version) but if I go to any site that has a mobile version it redirects me to that even though I want to see the full version. It is driving me mad.
BBC.co.uk redirects to bbc.co.uk/mobile
telegraph.co.uk redirects to m.telegraph.co.uk
Are others having this problem. I seemed to stop it yesterday after I tried changing the user agent string to a mozilla one but then it has gone back to the original user agent now after I rebooted the phone.
Try using skyfire for your browsing needs it has never done me wrong just dont visit any sites that are too personal like bank accounts and the like, ive benn told its not secure. there should also be a setting that lets you identify your handset as a desktop computer using opera. but ive had that same issue with a reset where i have to go in and set it again. Also just got netfront 3.5 and I havent had too much time with it but its a unique experience .
It has something to do with the browser. Thd symbian OS browser is the same.
Thanks for the tips but Skyfire is OK but nowhere near the browsing an screen quality experience of Opera.
My Experia didnt do this so it is only a setting somewhere but not sure what?
Are you navigating to sites by opening the "Internet" tab on TF3D and entering the URL into the search box at the top of the screen? If you do that, Google picks it up and returns you mobile versions of all the sites. If I put "bbc.co.uk" in there, a page of results comes up, and the first one is "bbc.co.uk/mobile".
To navigate to a page properly, open the "Internet" tab as normal but then click on the great big "launch browser" button (with a picture of the earth). Then select the address box at the top of the screen and enter your URL here instead.
Is that any better?
Nope I am not doing that as I have disabled TF3D because I hate it, but thats another story.
No I am not referring to the search page results and following pages that google formats, I am talking about typing plane old pages into Opera after launching opera from the programs menu.
don't have TP2 yet, but in my FUze opera -> menu -> settings -> display -> uncheck mobile view. that should do it. I'm still getting the hang of opera after using skyfire in the Kaiser.
Yes that is already unchecked too.
I believe that the BBC checks what browser you are using and then directs you to the page it thinks you want to see.
At the bottom of their home page there is a preferences link. Tells you to bookmark the version you are happiest to see.
Guess the Telegraph does the same. That would explain why setting your browser to say it is mozilla gave you the usual BBC page.
No idea on a long term fix except to bookmark! They are getting too clever for their own good!!!
The bbc and others take you to the crappy mobile site even if you dont want it. It drives me mad.
Have you tried going to the URL opera:config in opera and changing the settings there. I don't know if it will overwrite on soft reset but under user prefs there is a Custom User-Agent setting.
You could look at changing that perhaps?
Might be something with spoof useragent ID?
I fould this:
1 = Opera (default user agent string of Opera)
2 = Mozilla
3 = Internet Explorer
4 = Mozilla, Opera not mentioned
5 = Internet Explorer, Opera not mentioned
but that is probably not the whole story!!!
I have changed the max number of open tabs on this page to 4 from 2. following advice from someone here. That worked fine
Yes I make the changes that fix the problem then when I soft reset they go back to the old settings. I reckon it is because it is a Vodafone rom because it always sets it back to a Vodafone user agent string.
Strange, I make the changes in the editor and nothing happens but then I located the opera.ini file that the editor should edit in the \windows\opera folder and I edited it with a text editor in windows then uploaded the edited file. Nothing changed until I rebooted and then it was fine.
I changed my user-agent string to a standard Mozilla one and this has fixed my problem for some sites including the one I wanted to fix the mostbut not the telegraph.co.uk one. They must use something else. Need to play a bit more.
Download Opera Beta 9.7
Works great for me. No re-direction to mobile sites what so ever. There is an option in the settings of beta version to turn mobile view on/off. By default it's OFF.
When I install 9.7 beta on my vodafone TP2 and run it, it hangs and I have to reboot the device.
Sorted!!!!!
Don't you hate it when something so simple doesn't work!
OK, Tested BBC and telegraph after a reset and they both work.
Not my solution entirely but it came from here on the first post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470001
Thank you gtrab.
The issue was that the config tool with opera was not saving the configuration properly so after a reset my opera:config seemed to be going back to an old version. One that I had hacked and broken!!!! ( I have no idea why that one saved and other ones didn't
Solution was to use total commander to get hold of the windows/opera9/opera.ini file and edit this on my computer before replacing back into the opera9 folder
I have gone back to the vodafone useragent
Custom User-Agent=Vodafone/1.0/HTC_Touch_Pro2/1.14.161.5 (50207) Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)
Default Spoof UserAgent
Spoof UserAgent ID=1
And it seems the important one
UAProf URL Enabled=0
Now I am getting the web pages as I see them on the desktop. Horah!!!!
Oh awesome thankyou. I searched everywhere for an answer but you found it. I will go and give it a try.

[Q] Help needed to change touchflo default programs...

I have an HTC Touchpro 2 with windows mobile. The touchflo bar at the botton of the HTC Sense homepage is nice with one exception...the inability to change default programs.
Let's start with the webbrowser for example. I do NOT like Opera. As a matter of fact I use Skyfire. Currently it's sitting in the PROGRAMS tab and then I have to choose the browser from there. I would like to set it up so that I can just go to the internet tab and hit the planet/web icon and it will launch skyfire instead of opera. Is this doable?
Then there are the bookmarks on the internet tab. I don't want this to be a political thread, so don't make it one. It comes programmed with CNN and ESPN on there. Well one, I do not like CNN and I'd much rather put FOX on there. Second, I don't much care for sports so I'd like to remove ESPN altogether. It would be nice if I could add my own bookmarks.
What about the other programs? Can I change the default calender? What about the text program? The text program is ok but when I am sending a message to 10 people, I dont like having to type in each number or go select each name one at a time. I'd like a text/multimedia program that will let me select multiple recipients.
I know this is a lot to ask but once you point me in the right direction, I'll get it. Thanks in advance for the help.
~Mike
This website's search function is your friend. Instructions on how to make Skyfire the default browser in the Internet tab:

Cookies Home tab Editor (which requires Cookies Home Tab to be installed also) lets you change the applications launched from the Sense tabs (Messaging, Calendar, etc. but apparently not the Internet tab?). Its also an awesome way to customize the home tab, and well worth having on your phone.

If you don't want to make it a political thread, why not just say "I want to change the website shortcuts" ? You can want to change it from CNN to Bang Bros for all the heck we care.
Changing the website shortcuts in the Internet tab is simple. In the Internet tab, just touch Menu, remove the shortcut, then add the website of your choice.
Thanks.
Well, I guess that's a start. I was hoping to not have to install a different home screen or tabs slider, maybe I have the wrong idea about the Cookie app, I'll check it out.
Good point on the political part. I still honestly didn't want a political debate on my news choices but I could have gone with a different example. As for going into Opera and deleting the bookmarks and putting my own, that doesn't effect the pre-programmed bookmarks on the Internet touchflo tab. I think that removing those bookmarks will take some actual digging into the phone system files.
As for changing the default browser, yea, that part wasn't so hard. What I meant was that I wanted to open the internet touchflo tab and click the internet icon and have it open Skyfire instead of Opera, changing the default SYSTEM browser only affects what browser is used when opening hyperlinks from texts or emails.
Thank you for your suggestions though. They ARE greatly appreciated and I will check out the apps you suggested. As for the search function, I hate it because I can never get a narrowed set of results that apply directly to what I'm looking at. I'll try again though. Thanks again.
scratch that, I just looked at the first link you posted about the internet, I think that was PRECISELY what I was looking for. Thank you.

Yes, the CHT re-skins the home screen. It has awesome customizations, but it does use more program memory (some complain that it slows down the TP2 too much). So if you're on the fence, it might not be for you.

You aren't reading my post very carefully. I didn't tell you to delete the bookmarks in Opera. While in the INTERNET TAB, select menu, pick "Remove Favorite Shortcut", select "Done". Then select "Add Internet Shortcut" and pick the website of your choice. I haven't been using the stock ROM for a long time now, so it might be setup a bit different. But I don't think so, from my recollection.
Yea, I misunderstood. Sorry. That might be due to the fact that upon opening the Internet Tab, there is no menu button. Tapping and Holding on a bookmark does nothing (i.e. circle of dots...onscreen "right click" menu), and the soft keys only show Browser and Bookmarks. Browser is obvious. Bookmarks, well that lists two bookmarks that AREN'T the "permanent" bookmarks I was talking about.
But I should note that I have found the solution, kinda. If you search the phones system files (via computer) go to /application data/manilla/InternetPortal-en-us.xml then you can edit the default browser AND add/remove "permanent" links. Now I say I KINDA figured it out because unfortunately my .xml is write protected. Even if I right click and open the properties, uncheck "read only" it still remains write protected. If I create a new file, similarly named, the phone for some reason ignores the new .xml file and reads as if there is no .xml (provided that I remove the original, as I'd have to in order to make a new one)
So I'm about to try and figure out how to edit this .xml. I'll figure it out and when I do I'll post the solution on here. Wish me luck...I'm SOOOOOOOO close to getting this right.

Are those 2 links that you see under "Bookmarks" in the Internet tab the CNN and ESPN shortcuts, or something else?

If I remember properly, the trick the un-write protecting the Manila files, is to copy them (use Total Commander or similar, not the built-in File Explorer) to another directory. Then go Properties, uncheck Read Only, then copy back to the Manila directory to overwrite the old file. Save a version of the un-edited .xml file just in case you screw something up.
Yea, those two bookmarks are something else. Sites that I personally bookmarked IN Opera. I hit that softkey and it opens Opera and takes me to the bookmarks in the browser.
As for editing the file. I already messed it up. Copied to my desktop, edited that in notepad, and copied it OVER the existing file without thinking. As SOON as I started the copy I realized that I failed to make a backup. ****. Unfortunately, now my phone acts as if InternetPortal-en-us doesn't exist. It opens up my systems default browser (which IS skyfire) but the first screen isn't google like I specified in the XML, instead its an Error 404 type screen that says it can't find "\Search\\Home" or something like that. I also edited the permanent bookmarks, deleted youtube and espn, edited cnn to show fox. Now only 1 bookmark shows up...and it isn't Fox like you would hope...no, it's youtube.
I can't figure out how it defaults to youtube nor can I figure out why, with no programming errors or file-name errors, my phone believes that the file doesn't exist. I downloaded Total Commander and edited the properties of this file to read as READ-ONLY and SYSTEM but that didn't help either.
So, do you have any fix ideas? Yes, I know it's a good idea to make a backup, I typically do. I just got impulsive and reckless. Moved too fast.
I'm out of ideas. Personally, I don't use the Internet tab. In fact, I turned that tab off. My browser is one of the quicklinks on my home tab. It might just be easier to go that route.
If you want to return the Manila file to the way it was before, and don't mind losing your data, customizations, etc., a hard reset will restore the phone to factory condition. Go to Start>Settings>System>Empty Storage.
Well I thank you for your help thus far. I have been thinking about a hard reset but it really isn't worth it. I don't use the internet tab either because I use skyfire. So I'll either disable the tab or try one last thing. My father has the same phone. Service and model. I'll try copying the file from his phone and hopefully it works will with mine. I can't find anywhere on the web to download this file so this is my last logical resort.

Internet Explorer + Save Logins

Hi there,
is it true that it's simple a fake that the IE mobile on WP7 can save passwords/logins?
I can't achieve this with the browser, no way. When i google this feature i also found nothing. No people missing nor people confirm such a feature.
The reason why i think the IE mobile should do so i is explained in the link under enabling/disabling cookies : [sry but i'm not allowed to post links, would be nice if you google "Change privacy and other browser settings" and hit the first link]
Anybody who can explain me that?
thx
KG
I'd guess it's talking more about websites like forums that 'save passwords' with a checkbox like 'remember me' or 'keep me logged in'. I don't think it's going to prompt to save your passwords like Firefox does.
Well this seems sad but true. In this case the description is misleading at all. Anyway this should be a main feature of a mobile browser nowadays. And Opera Mobile/Mini which achieve this by now are WIP
I expect this soon as well.
Hopefully it will come in the January update package.
Moving to general.

I have a couple of forums added to my Favourites on my Omnia 7 . I am automatically logged in when I go to those particular sites .

Any way to fully spoof a user agent?

I know dolphin browser HD and skyfire have options to change the user agent in the settings but some sites that I have tried force the mobile version anyways. With that said, is there any method of fully spoofing the user agent to desktop? Any help is greatly appreciated.
"Open your browser, enter "about:debug" (without quotes )into the address bar, then hit the "Go" button on your keyboard—don't tap the search/URL suggestion that comes up. You'll notice that the browser now does, well, nothing. But hit your Menu key, choose the "More" option, then select Settings. Scroll down some, and you'll see a new collection of advanced options there, including a "UAString" option. Click that, then choose between Android, desktop, or iPhone user strings to change what browser web sites think you're visiting with. "
SELECT "DESKTOP"
Try this and see if it works for you.
Sent from my Evo Killer!!!
OP is using Dolphin and Skyfire browsers, which don't need about:debug for UA spoofing.
I could be wrong but I remember reading somewhere that some sites are able to use your installed Flash player to determine that you're not using a desktop browser. I think there was a modified Flash player that worked around that to allow you to view sites like Hulu, but I don't know where one could download it. Maybe search the forums for Hulu Flash player?
Good luck!

Tmobile Wifi HotSpot Bypass

You can bypass it ez.. once you have it rooted using TrevE Mod.. I'm assuming we all have gone thru this were it's Tmobile blocking you ..
I read on once of the forum's here you can use Pdanet etc.etc.
& something about the User agent.. well you can bypass it ... I'm not using any extra appz or software on PC/laptop. I'm just bypass it by using the User agent & selecting a different one. just use the F10 to pull options out on Explorer > and select Tools
or you can just Pust F12 once Explorer is open then you get the HTLM Info & other crap on the buttom screen look for >> tools ... one more time select it you'll see > Change User Agent String > select its & Select >>> Custom > type in Android under Friendly Name and User Agent String put 1 then Select or click on the > Add button. you should be able to surf the web or any web site you wish too. worked for me....
NOTE > every time you Turn off your WIFI Tethering App TrevE Mod and re-activate it. also make sure not to close your Broswer. You will have to go into Tools in Explorer & make sure your User Agent String is on Android the one you created.. & you'll be free to surf the web and play games currently on FFXIV & playing off my Galaxy NOte 2 even though I maxed out my Hotspot 500mb per month.. since I found this .. it's Bad Ass.. if you need any help AIM msg me at neoamoeba

Im using internet explorer for my browser. .. if I use chrom I don't know how to change it. Yet. Still trying to figure that out.
Ill try that system check thing tonight.
For Chrome just use the User Agent Spoofer from the Chrome Web Store.
Set it to any iOS or Android device, or even OS X Safari 5, and it works. I used to use the google searchbot user agent string at one point. You'll notice that some sites check for the user agent and display content accordingly. That said, certain parts of sites may be blocked when using some strings, like Netflix, or attempting to use some Google Apps with the searchbot string.
I also found that as long as I'm using https (vs http) I won't receive the T-Mobile Hotspot Upsell page.
