WiFi optimization - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Recently i believe i learned that the WiFi optimization feature is the reason my WiFi will turn off when i go to work and back on when I get home. Like it knows i don't have any good WiFi signals at work. Maybe like a low low power state where it checks WiFi only every 10-15 minutes.
I can't find much information on this feature. Does anyone know if this is how the feature works? Or have a link to more information about it? Thanks in advance.

You could try looking it up in the Android source code, if you're savvy enough.

Wifi disconnecting

Hi Guys,
This has been mentioned before, but I thought i should re-raise it, as far as I'm aware there has been no fix suggested yet.
Wi-fi turns off when you put your device on standby - is there any way to always keep wifi on, unless of course you turn it off manually with the connection manager.
Looking forward to any suggestions or workarounds.
Many thanks & kindest regards,
Rich.

WiFi often not reconnecting (not hardware related)

I've been having this problem ever since I got my One X; unfortunately, the WiFi hardware issues make it hard to search for any possible fixes. Basically, my One X (Tegra 3, 2.17.401.2 currently) will very rarely reconnect to WiFi after turning it on from sleep. I tried manually assigning an IP address instead of doing DHCP as suggested in some places; this didn't seem to have much of an effect, and there are some places where I can't manually assign. The only thing that's reliable is if I manually toggle WiFi off and back on -- at that point it'll instantly find a network and connect. I've tried the various wifi power savings settings and other bits; none make a difference. This is pretty annoying; it's almost as if the phone doesn't bother to scan for APs until I manually toggle it.
With 2.17.401.2 fixing a whole bunch of other little annoyances, this is probably the biggest one that's left for me. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix or work around this?
I read somewhere (can't fine the post) an xda user fixed this issue by soldering (physically) the wifi antenna inside the phone.
I don't recommend that though. I'm not a fan of opening up my phone.
However, I suggest you try a custom ROM from the many available here. Maybe this will fix it for you if it were a software/radio issue.
Yeah, that doesn't seem like the right way to go... pretty sure it's not a hardware issue since I have no problems with wifi reception in general. The phone just doesn't seem to search for wifi to connect to as often as it should.
Sounds so familiar

Same issue here ...
Not sure whether this is hardware problem though, most of the complaints that were verified as hardware problem were signal and connection related.
Our mutual problem is RE-connecting.
Anyways, I haven't found any solution for this yet. Turning on and off always works.
One idea I have is to use an app like AutomateIt, this is an automation app that lets you set rules for bunch of stuff on your phone.
One use case could be setting a rule to turn wifi on once at home, turn off once out of home and turn back on once at work etc..
Hope someone will find a solution for this ...
Multitasking and wifi are major pain in the a** for me with this otherwise great phone ..
try wifi fixer app from market
I'm not a fan of automation taskers. They are battery hogs.
Try the custom rom ARHD 9.4.0 and let me know how it goes.
Thanks for the help !

That is an issue on ALL aosp roms, also signal is jumpy, speakerphone mic doesn't work, and battery life is really not as good as it should be.

I have tested a lot of ROMs on my M8 and I agree that the WiFi password and speakerphone thing is pretty common.
The Gummy ROM is supposed to have a fix in the latest nightly but it did not fix the speakerphone problem for me.
WiFi password is persistent, but I had to blacklist the DSP Manager or it crashes all the time.
That was supposed to be fixed also, I though.
I am still looking for a reliable ROM with a working speakerphone.
The limitations in Sense ROMs don't do it for me, namely that tethering via USB only works over your data plan.
It deliberately turns off WiFi...

[Q] Wifi keep scanning for new networks

Hello everyone , so im experiencing this issue even after i updated my galaxy tab s T-705 to lollipop rom with the wifi settings which is the scanner keep scanning for new networks even tho its connected to my router and cant access any other of those that it finds when it scans for , here is the screenshot so you get a better idea of whats happening " http://i.cubeupload.com/NOGICz.png " i wana know if its normal or not cuz if im not sure that scanning thing could be draining extra battery for no reason , anyone has any idea why this is happening and if there is a way to stop it
I am still on kitkat, so i dont know about lollipop, I think there is a setting to turn off wifi scanning when the tablet is in sleep mode, But I dont know about wifi scanning when already connected already, Is it some type of wifi type of roaming setting, maybe it thinks you are walking around and it`s trying to get a better connection, what is your wifi signal like.
John.

Nop I'm always in range of my router. Your saying you don't get that scanning every few sec in that setting page?

Yep, I'm on Lollipop and am getting the scanning every few seconds even tho I'm perfectly connected to my home network. I don't see any way to turn it off thus far
As i said i am still on kitkat, I just checked my 10.5" and i get SCANNING in the Wifi page every five seconds, so i assume it is normal.

Yep I had that on Kitkat too and also on lollipop. Its normal I guess. I think you can do a few build.prop edits to reduce the interval in I'm correct.

I also am experiencing this version of tap talk.?
Yes its normal .
When you exit from WiFi setting it will turn off automatically.
Also take this tip to make your battery stay longer, uncheck open WiFi network box.

Gps issues on my op3

Hi, i am facing gps issue on ob22, the blue marker keeps on moving. The location is also not accurate, tried factory reset still no luck. Details : ob22 magisk module rooted currently . Thanks in advance. Can this also be hardware related?
Also is anyone else facing same issue?

GPS has been hit or miss on my op3t since I purchased it. It seems to work better on high accuracy

Ppl claim its working well for them on OB as well, makes me wonder if something wrong with my device. For me the results are only nearby accurate if wifi scanning in turned on on cellular network. Again I wonder what difference does wifi scanning makes on GPS?
Thanks bro for reverting, much relieved
nah, ****load of people are complaining about a non functional GPS, just a small few keeps saying all is ok. Simple fact... its pretty much useless.

With wifi scanning on, the accuracy is much better.
Try to change mobile signal from 4G or LTE to 3G or 2G. For some people, the GPS issue is resolved with this change.

Just because it works for some and not for you doesnt mean anything. There are many things that can effect gps. A perfect example is where I live. Every couple of weeks GPS doesnt work at all due to the military jamming it for training. Mind you, I a talking about real GPS not the cell/wifi signal gps, which is just about useless.

Bro I live in no such area, no issues of jamming at such definitely related to device. Conclusion is - on 4g it works better with wifi scanning and high accuracy on and on 3g/2g works just alone with high accuracy. I believe this is OS related may be OP should work on it.
I'm having the same problem as well. my GPS giving me headache. Sometime fast lock and sometime took more than few minutes. but mostly reboot can temporary fix it. :crying:
