Recently i installed Cyanogen 10.1 nightly Rom on my nexus.Working quite smooth and lag free. But the problem is very POOR BATTERY BACKUP!! Battery only lasts for 5-6 hours! AOSP had very decent battery backup(maybe good KERNEL??)..
So any advice??
Do i need to flash different kernel?
I would recommend the trinity kernel .then I would invest some time finding the best under volt frequencies.

Definitely give Franco a try.

Standard answer to this question: Try all of them and see which works best for you.
i would def give Air kernal a try ive been using it on the AOKP Linario and I get easily 16-24 hrs of moderate to heavy usage:good:
Are you sure it's because of kernel? Perhaps you have installed some rough app that drains your battery. I'm on CM10.1 build 17.12 and getting pretty good battery life so far.

Faux should be on the list to try

played temple run and browsing.. made few calls as well.. is this good battery life??
That's pretty good.
My normal is AOKP M6 with Jame Bond 3.1.9.9 kernel.
Although I'm thinking I'm sticking to the AOKP JB nightlies now. Just using Jame Bond 3.4 kernel now.

please guys.. post your battery stats. it will be really helpful to a lot of people to choose roms as we give a lot of preference to battery life.. thanks

That is actually pretty good. It also seems like you play games and that drains the battery pretty quick, especially since is using the GPU much more than in regular use.
I could have never ever achieve this kind of battery with my HTC Sensation even when running CM9.
Here is mine. Using stock but rooted JB and stock kernel.
Used for browsing a lot, Twitter, Facebook, Texting and YouTube videos.

Hi! I'll be going abroad in a couple of days and while I have tested most JB roms I'm not sure which rom has the best battery life. I'm currently using Rasbeanjelly and Trinity Stable 35 and I only got 3hrs of screen on yesterday (however I did have 3G enabled most of the time). Can anyone please suggest the best ROM for battery life ?
Thanks

i am using xenon hd 5 with the latest trinity kernel.. i get more thn 4 hrs of screen on time.u can try it out
I have typically had very good luck with my battery usage, and when I dont I can usually track the source and fix it, however, I am really battling with 4 hour battery life lately. Can anyone suggest a good kernel for this, or maybe some trouble tips.
Thanks in advance.
I'm using the faux kernel it came with and my battery life has been fine. What kernel are you using?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Honestly, tried many kernels, such as Trinity, Popcorn, Franco and Faux, but I gotta say, battery life doesn't change too much. What you can do to improve it though, is to undervolt it. Or underclock it if you're ok with that. I also recommend you to use SetCPU to set profiles.
Try Jame Bond kernel.

Hey there!
I've been reading for a long time in this forum- mostly about increasing battery life!
I always thought my battery life is average but today I just have to share my battery stats with you and ask for advice- many people getting 3-4h screen on time, I roughly get 2h!!
I'm using xylon 011 custom rom with latest franco kernel (r344). Baseband is XXLH1 with corresponding RIL. I'm using no live wallpaper and just hd widgets (syncing weather every hour) and google play music widget. I have two mail accounts syncing every 3h, facebook off and maps no location service what so ever! I also uninstalled lightflow! Gps always disabled, wifi on as much as possible- rest of the time 3G.
Brightness on auto-default values!
Thanks for your help!
Check these battery stats!!

Bump- is it possible that I have to buy a new battery after one year?
Last franco's nightly(r344) as some problems, including huge idle battery drain. The only thing you can do is downgrade to r342 or change kernel or patiently wait for a fix. Me too using r344,in 5 hours my battery was expired! I'm waiting for a fix
Regards
Try using 007 kernel. I found I want to be the most effective for battery life

Thanks for this input but I recently bought franco's app for just too much to just switch kernels now ^^
I hope it is really the kernel that is the problem! This drain is so annoying- reverting to r342 now, posting back!
I have Franco's app too but I don't like the newer revisions and I really like the 007 kernel performance and battery life. Worth a shot no harm done
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Faux123 kernel is by far the best and everyone neglects it. Try the mainline smartreflex version and use his app to tweak it for even better battery life.
Thanks I hope franco will fix the drain soon! If not I'll try 007 or so!

Zen is by far the smoothest and most battery friendly kernel I have tried in my Toroplus. With every other kernel, the battery drain graph would drop like a stone - it merely dips in small increments with Zen v14.1 (screen is on throughout the duration of the attached graph).

First of all.. A very happy New Year to all
Ok.. There are many roms on xda and kernals too
If someone has figured it out.. could anyone tell me which rom-kernel combination is the best for battery (and settings to if needed)
Thanks in advance

There is no such thing as best. My phone and your phone are not identical, even though they may have very been from the same production lot. Nor are the individual circumstances under which two given people use their phones identical. Something that performs extremely well on one phone may very well boot loop on another.
Do some research by reading the applicable dev forum, and then try some different combinations for yourself to see if they work for you under your unique set of circumstances.

I am using Cataclysm ROM with the inbuilt kernel that comes with it and I am completely happy with the battery life.
I could get 2 days out of my device on general usage.
You could try that.

I REALLY doubt you will get the BEST battery performance out of stock.
KERNEL.
there is no best combo, there is only the best combo for you and your device. for me its rasbean jelly rom with trinity kernel. but whats best for me and my device might not be right for you and your device.
I've been using cataclysm with Franco kernel for a while and have been very satisfied.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Agreed, there is no best. I've had good luck with muzzy's aosp room and Trinity kernels. But you might not like that combo. I'm not interested in gaming for instance, so my needs might be different than yours. Try different combos and you'll discover your own best.
Ok.. got it.. thanks everyone

stock rom is the best in my opinion
I think Xylon (014) with the default lean kernel gives good battery life. Tried the ROM with Franco 358 but i went back to lean.
Also, i make site that my most of my apps aren't running in the background and using up the battery... That's what the FAQs from Franco's OP in his thread mentions.

I get over 5 hours screen on time and a flawless smooth ROM with heavy usage with both data and WiFi on with xylon stable and ak purity kernel running Wheatley gov. I just addressed this on the xylon thread. Works well for me and some others.. Have a look its worth the flash to see.

Best I have found is stock.

Check my sig. I can't use any rom other than paranoid. I've tried many different kernels, but i keep going back to Franco.
Whatever combo I use, no more than 2hrs of screen time and 16hrs of standby.

I had great luck with Xylon (latest) with Tiny (latest)
Just flashed Evolution 3.0 and Lean Kernel (latest) and after 2 days I am satisfied.
Good Luck.

For me it's I've been on Muzzy's French Vanilla on stock kernal. However, I've read good things about tiny's kernal too but I haven't tried it myself.
As a noob in the android community, and after trying different roms, i like rasbean the most for different reasons, but on choosing a kernel, for example trinity, there are a lot of options. What's the difference? I really not get it :silly:
for example, TNP1536-512-JB-4.1.2-STABLE67
So this one is max 1536Mhz CPU and max 512 GPU i read on derkernel site
So there's a different setting for graphics (gpu)? I always tought CPU was working between 1536-512 Mhz?
And euh, when i have trinity's app, i can change the settings of this kernel to get this one? (TNP1344-384-JB-4.1.2-STABLE67)
So this is the same kernel but with different settings?
Please make me a little bit smarter
Hey guys...
I'm currently trying out CM10.1 and I'm loving it.
As its better than any other cm based roms like PA, Pac man etc
I'm really disappointed from the battery life, it drains so quickly
I tried NEAK kernel but it didn't help, can some one help me out to get good battery life out of cm10.1?
Thanks in advance.
I use carbon rom and neak kernel and i get about 22 hours with 5 hours screen on that's the best aosp rom i have seen for the battery
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I got 10 hours on average(Which i guess is ok)when I was on Cm 10.1. I used to set CPU to about 400 MHz when I was just listening to music but 200mhz when it was sleep. It was a hassle to do but it did help.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Im curious aswell. Im running cleanrom ace 4.9 and im getting around 1day 12hrs with 4 hours screen on. I want to move away from stock again but can never get more than 16 17 hours on aosp.
Sent from my GT-N7105 using xda app-developers app
I heard devil kernel is pretty good with battery on AOSP, also try downloading greenify from the play store. It take apps that constantly run in the background that aren't in use and hibernates them. I'm a heavy user of youtube and radios and I get around 20-24 hrs. But on light days I get over a day. I'm currently using ProBAM
The most I could ever get was always 5hours screen time and thats after using Greenify, Droid wall and uv/uc with slimbean, carbon and pa. I've heard of some people getting upto 7 hours on aosp but they never seem to share the setup, most likely in airplane mode though. Ultimately battery life was always an important factor for me so I reverted back to tw roms. Sad.
