How to remove scratch from screen?. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I have only has my note 2 for about 2 weeks, and the is already a small scratch on the screen.
I didn't put a screen protector on it, as i had used my s2 for a year with no screen protector, and I never got any scratches.
Does anyone know a way I can remove the scratch?, or any stores in Australia that do it.
It's just really annoying haveing the scratch on there like that.
Thanks
Cheers

Replace the outer screen is the only option i guess, you can`t polish scratches away if they are to deep.

Is Our Galaxy Wonder Scratch Proof Resistant?
I would love to know more about our phone.
Thank You Very Much.
I tried scratching my screen with a key, no success. Too bad I can't proof it since I don't have another device to record a video. Try youtube, there's one video about it

I´ve read somwhere that Samsung uses dragontail glas for the SGW. It has to be better than gorillaglas, but since Samsung was sceptical about this when they launched the SGW, they didn´t mention it.
Mine is scratched so no doubt it isn't.

Even Gorilla glass gets scratched and even shatters!! The scratch resistance just means it wont get scratched as easily as ordinary plastic or glass.I know our device uses a kind of scratch resistant material because it took about 3 months to notice a very fine scratch on mine.No Screen protector!!The scratch is almost invisible even now.

I did scratch my Wonder's screen somehow
Is there any way to find out what is the glass material? such as confirm with the samsung manufacturer?
I use SGW for 4 months without any screen protector and so far the glass hasn't any scratch.
I was expecting 1 or 2 replies to nothing at all but then im very thankful to all you guys who replied.
Long Live Our SGW!!!
I love You Guys.
Well, it's made of glass. So it's definitely more scratch resistant than plastic. But there isn't any reinforcement afaik.
I didn't knew it when I bought mine, so I bought an screen protector too. The week that I used it without protection I got any scratches. Now I'm using the protection for 3 weeks, and it's all scratched.

That's awkward, I can't get what you mean.
I bought mine 3 months ago and immediately put a screen protector on it. last January, I saw a video of a guy scratching (more like caressing) his GW with a pointed-edge scissor and there was no scratch (I was a fool to believe that video.) So I took off the screen protector after that. I'm always careful when it comes to my phone, and the only place where I put it most of the time is my pocket when I go out. I dunno where I got it, but I was surprised when I saw a tiny spec in the middle of the screen that won't come off. I tried to wipe it out but it still won't come off. I looked very closely and there it was, one tiny little scratch right in the middle of my screen. Bottom line is, NOT GORILLA GLASS! It was a good thing that the scratch was so small, it's unnoticeable when I put a screen protector back on.
Before I buy me GW I ask Samsung about glasses on Xcover and W.
The answer was
Xcover have hardened Gorilla glass
W there is used other hardened glass
I hear something about Dragontrail from Asahi glass or Samsung working on own solution...

Should I buy an screen protector?

I just got my new GN and its awesome, it worth every cent.
But I haven't bought any kind of protection, neither a case, tpu or screen protector.
Is this screen really scratch resistant? I come from a 3VO and that fuc*ing screen scratched a lot... ok, not that much, but it does scratched.
So is it worth to buy an screen protector? , the screen looks awesome like this and I don't want to ruin it

I never really used one but while something like a key will not scratch the screen, things like sand and other fine grains will. Take that into consideration..
Also if you must, xoskins screen protectors do not detract from screen quality in my personal experience.

I'll suggest you buy a protector and save your screen. The instant I saw a scratch on my screen, I got very anal about it and got the protector the very next day.
It's never too late to save your screen. The oleophobic coating is just for your finger prints, not for scratches.

Yes, you should. Buy a wet apply.
Ok, the decision is made, tonight I'm looking for a screen protector on eBay.
Thank you dudes

Hey you made it. Check your pm. But on topic I haven't had one since I got the phone I love the glass.... Can't stand plastic coverings. But I unfortunately already have two minimal scratches that you can only see in sunlight at an angle or under a flashlight.

Last 2 phones I used Desire Z and Sensation didn't get scratches at all (Gorilla Glass)
Before that had Nexus One which got plenty of scratches in a year.
Seems same with GN. I have one annoying scratch and a few fine small ones after 3 months of use. I'd say get a screen protector for this phone.
I don't use a case and phone is usually alone in one pocket

Do I need a screen protector?

Hey guy, I've have a screen protector on my phone since day 1 but recently I took it off and my screen so much more beautiful without it. Is anyone using this phone without a protector? Is it resistant against scratch? Is there a type that's not noticeable at all?

screen protector is necessary.
I have sgp ultra nano clear and it's virtually invisible.
Keep it on I know the screen looks better without it until u get your first scratch

The glass on our phone is very fragile. You can easily crack it from a few foot drop.. It's not as strong as the sgs2.
Get a screen protector.. Not worth the cost to repair it..

I have my phone in a case with an invisible shield. By the time it comes to replace it will look like new.
Otherwise scratches and dents will occur.

I highly suggest keeping a screen protector on- or for that matter a case would be ideal. I already got 2 deep scratches on my phone and highly regret it.
Go without the protector. Get a good case.

I don't use one, and I've even dropped it face down a few times, and haven't had a problem yet.
Hopefully I haven't just jinxed myself.
No you don't need a screen protector, they do nothing other than getting scratch, smudge and decrease the clarity of your screen. Another problem is the touch feeling of touching the glass.
For any discussion about scratches >> IT DOES NOT HAPPENS !!!
The Gorilla glass 2 on the galaxy s3 is probably the best glass in the market, doesn't scratch or easily breaks. Though the problem is the frame which scratch on drop.
I used my galaxy s3 for 3 weeks, got my screen protector on for the first 4 days and just took it off, it's just degrading my phone. I current own an iphone 4, new ipad, iphone 4s and i know they all scratches at some point, but not this galaxy s3.

This. I was scared of not using protection with this expensive phone (even though I had a Droid X for over two years without a single scratch).
I bought a Zagg HD and thought it was great....for the first couple of days. Then I realized I hate the feeling, scratched easier than normal glass! and turned a weird yellow color after a month. So I recently ditched it.
WOW, almost forgot how much more beautiful this screen is naked!
You guys have been sold by advertising.
The glass in our phone sucks. Why do you think there are so many threads about diy repair in these Forums?

There have been a lot of videos with people using razor blades and forks to try and scratch the screen and it looks really awesome. I have had Gorilla Glass screens in the past that had the same things done to them and somehow they got scratched when I used them. I don't know how it happens (maybe diamond wielding gremlins sneak into my pockets and do their evil deed when I am not looking), but it happens.
I am a 'better safe than sorry' kind of guy. I know that if I got a scratch on my screen it would bug me until I bought a new phone so I am putting on a screen protector. I have tried the Zagg on other phones (and on my iPad) and I hate the feel of it. To be honest, I have found that the cheap screen protectors work very well and are quite clear. If/when they scratch.... Put on another one and it looks new again. At around a buck each it's no big deal.
Actually... My HTC Sensation and my Samsung - whatever the first Galaxy was on Tmobile - still have the original cheap screen protectors on them so one dollar protected them for as long as I used them.
Put me down for "use a screen protector" (but not an expensive one).
I had my phone for about a week without a screen protector and it looked gorgeous. Not a single scratch. I had a Motorola Photon before for 8 months and it also has gorilla glass. I can tell you, the glass does stand well, but it showed some small scratches after that long (and I'm not rough).
After my first week owning the phone, I had it in my pocket while sitting down and it slipped out onto the tile below. Screen shattered. I don't have insurance so I had to spend $200 for my own screen to replace it. It sucked.
A screen protector seems like a useless product, and the good ones (invisible ones) are expensive, but trust me, its a lot cheaper than a new screen. Also invest in a good case. My bezel has a scuff from the fall.
Ive never used a screen protector, and luckily I haven't scratched my screen either. Have been using N7000 since first week it was released in Sweden. Have only dropped it twice, once from pocket height on concrete floor, once from nightstand table.. both times face down of course, haha. Except from that I'm careful with my Note, only put it in a pocket where there is nothing else, and face up when I leave it on for example a table. I've never seen a screen protector I would like to use myself, so I'm careful with my phone instead and if I scratch the screen I guess I'll have to replace it or buy a Note 2. But rather that than having screen protector on in my opinion

Hi, guy doesn't it feel better without a rubber on? Same thing you take a risk but it feels better. :highfive:
I'd have to say use a screen protector. It's the first thing I purchase when getting a new handset
Sony Ericsson P800, numerous XDA variants, a HD2 and now my S3 all have them, and as yet all my screens are immaculate
If you've got a $35 handset then treat it like one, if you've got a $500 handset then at least respect it a little
I even have accidental protection with no deductible through best buy and still have a case and protector lol

Id say if you have insurance on the phone, then I wouldnt use one. I had the similar scenario as you; had a screen protector for ~1 month and removed it and realized how beautiful the screen was, haha.

For Those With Cracked or Scratched Screens

I have had my SGS3 since July and I have had a screen protector on it except for 1 week and in that time the phone got 3 nice scratches on it.
I am anal with my phone as I have a screen protector on it as well as one on the back and a rubber case over it also, so this is not a case of
being careless.
I put a post on Corning's Gorilla Glass 2 Facebook page and I got a reply saying basically Get in touch with Samsung as Corning can't do
anything, but if I want to discuss the problem further, contact them at [email protected]
Why doesn't everyone who has had problems with their screen contact them and maybe they will see this isn't an isolated incident.
This is what I wrote and what they replied...

Why is the Gorilla Glass 2 on the Samsung Galaxy S3 less resistant to scratching than the original Gorilla Glass on the original Galaxy S?
My 5 month old $650 Galaxy S3 has 3 nice scratches on the screen when my screen protector came off and I didn't get the new one for a
week. This is not right for a device that costs so much. Corning should be looking into these problems.
I have heard many more stories of scratches and cracks on the screen of the S3. Does this mean I will have to stay away from products with
Gorilla Glass from now on?

Hi Ian. So sorry you've had a problem. It’s hard to say what might have happened with your phone. While our
glass is tougher and significantly more damage resistant, it’s not scratch proof. You might want to check with Samsung to see if there is a
warranty. If you'd like to talk more about this, please e-mail [email protected]. Hopefully this helps.

Here is a petition I started in hopes that there is a possible solution to our problems.

Have as many people as you know to sign this, it might be our best bet to show how many of us are affected.

I've had my phone without a protector for the last month or so and have zero scratches
Same thing here. What did the damage? Keys in pocket, pen, angry ex? It helps build a case if you know the exact cause if the damage

My gorilla glass is outstanding. Dropped without a case/screen protector flat down about a meter onto wavy tiles and it didnt even scratch. I also dropped it on its side from my pocket from chair a couple times and its still flawless. Maybe I'm lucky.
Yes, most people will respond that their phones are in great condition, but this is for those who have had trouble with
the screen.
I am very protective of my phone. It was scratched in the (1) week I didn't have a screen protector on it. My original SGS's
screen was in new impeccable condition when I sold it after using it for 2 years, so why is this new phone scratched after
only 5 months?
Ian
There's lots of ways to scratch glass, a bit of grit or sand in your pocket ETC .. i wouldn't risk using my phone without a protector for even one day.
Might have to eventually just accept you scratched your phones screen.
I too have been very careful to not scratch my screen. I am fanatical about clean hands. The smallest partical of dust seems to be able to scratch the screen. As much as this phone cost, you would think they would throw in even the cheapest screen protector to hold you over untill you can get something better. Am i being too petty?

I find a good quality screen protector is not even slightly noticeable on the screen & in no way affects use, i have no idea why they don't supply one.
I am also amazed they advise against using them in their literature.
The screen on my Galaxy S3 is great! I've had mine for over 2 months without ever having a screen protector on it & I don't have 1 scratch on my phone!!! I also am very protective of my phone! Seems to be pretty good to me.

[Q] Glass scratches

I have 2 annoying scratches on the Gorilla Glass. Can I remove it somehow?
No you can't. You can try and rebuff the screen but that would take out the oleophobic coating not Worth it. Just buy a screen protector and that should hide the scratches if its bothering you.
Sent from the Rabbit Hole
go for a wet application screen protector, they tend to fill in the scratches fairly well. something like xoskins or xtremeguard.
A clean screen protector might do the trick. Using Brando ultra-clear myself.
I also have a small scratch on the screen.
I am not impressed with the glass on the note 2.
I have a galaxy s2, and I used that for over a year without a screen protector, and I never got any scratches.
Within 2 weeks of using my n2, I had a scratch on the screen.
I will he selling my n7100 for a 4g version in a couple of months, so it doesn't bother me, but I think Samsung failed with the glass on n2.
Cheers

nope. nothing you can do. screen protector will hide it. sand is evil!
Get a screen protector. Gorrilla glass is scratch resistant not scratch proof. If you don't want scratches screen protectors are the only way to go

be careful with the buffing products. I once used industrial glass scratch remover. I buffed it forever until it made the scratch go away about 50%. But it left a slightly dark shadow on the area. It's physics. I made a slight dip in the Area that I buff, a concave. Light bends and causes that shadow. Light is evil.!
How bad are these scratches? Can you take a picture with a reflection for us to see?

I dropped mine on sidewalk several times and still no scratches. a screen protector is the easiest way to hide the mark though.
Not impressed either. Had a Droid Razr Maxx with no protector, and the Xoom without one, no scratches. Note 2 less than 2 weeks and had minor ones.
I put on the Just Like Glass protector, love it, however it is VERY dirty. Grease seems to cling to it. Its dang near impossible to clean like the real glass on the phone. While I only notice it when the phone is off, its still annoying, other than that, I like it.
best solution I've found is putting those zagg water applied protector. They do make fine scratches disappear very well. almost 99.99%. I just hate the spen drag on it.
