[Q] mmuzzy 4.2.1 and screen dimming - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I installed mmuzzy 4.2.1 ROM on my phone and have been quite happy with it. The only problem I have is that the screen dims after about 30 seconds and I can't find a brightness setting that will allow me to disable this feature. Does anyone have a way to turn this off?

settings -> display -> sleep (not sure if that is what you want as you've probably seen it). I don't think there is a setting to stop it from dimming before turning off. Increasing the time to off keeps it from dimming as soon.

Sorry, not good enough

I want the dimming off completely.
I turned the developer options on and told to leave the screen on when charging. But it still dims. Once it dims, it's impossible to see the screen while in the car. 4.1 never dimmed. I may go back to the 4.1, since this seriously impacts my ability to use the phone in my car.

You might be able to set up a tasker profile to keep the screen on in the car. I've done that in the past for use in the car. I would guess that this feature is at the kernel level, so you could try a different kernel.

I'm just rolling back to 4.1. 4.2.1 didn't buy me anything feature-wise.

It seems someone has files a bug for this

If people could please star this issue, I would really appreicate it. I have a Nexus 10 now, and don't have an option to roll back to 4.1 and this is really annoying.

[Q] How To Prevent Display from Dimming when plugged into Power

When I'm in my car, I have my GN mounted on a vent, and plugged into power. I'll often use this to check traffic with Google Maps, or for whatever reason, would like to keep the display on (preferrably full power since it's not running off the battery), and not dim after the preset time. I have yet to find a way to do this.
I have gone into Developer Settings, and enabled the "Stay Awake" when plugged into power, but this does not prevent the screen from dimming after the preset time. So this doesn't accomplish what I want.
On my prior Touch Pro 2, there was a simple setting - keep display on, full brightness, when plugged into power. Seems like a no-brainer to have this feature, but I'll be darned if I can find it.
Any ideas? Or Apps that will provide this functionality?
Thanks.
(Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Stock 4.0.2 ROM)
I think screebl might help. Not 100% sure that it will though

Thanks. As you said, it doesn't seem Screebl will do what I'm wanting.
There are a few other Apps, such as "Stay Awake" where you can configure it to keep the display on whenever a specified app or apps are running. I guess this might be an option.
But seriously, this seems to be a major omission in Android. I understand why one might want the display to auto-dim (although I can just turn it off when I want, so even this is questionable). But if it's plugged into power, surely the user should have a readily available option to keep the display on. For example, a "Never" option in the screen that has the various timeout options.
I'm new to Android - is there really no straightforward way of doing this??
Bump..
Still hoping for a straightforward way to keep the display at full power when connected to my car charger.
Thanks.
Widgetsoid has as one of its display switches to keep the display always on, and it does work. So I made a 1x1 widget that has that one switch, and use it when I want the screen to stay on. Not elegant, but functional.
Thanks for the suggestion; I'll check it out.
I'm still somewhat surprised that this pretty basic functionality isn't built into the OS itself, or that there aren't ready-made Apps to implement this.

I dont think google had car mode ready for release. Couple that with the fact the car dock with pogo pins hasnt been released either. Yes google f'ed up but im sure we will see it in future update. Or a dev will probably be nice enough to do something.

Yes, I'm a first timer with Android, but I still do my research before posting. Did you actually read my initial post or the Subject title?
I have already enabled this setting. Yes, it does keep the screen 'awake' but it still dims after the timeout in Display Settings.
My post is how to keep the screen at normal brightness when plugged into power
I read your post. I agree, it is annoying. I have not found a solution to it and it has bugged me for years while in the car. I have had 4 android phones and it has been the same on all of them so it is not an individual phone thing, it is an android thing. My best suggestion is while in the car to have navigation turned on, that keeps the screen fully lit. I would think that some enterprising developer could delve into how the navigation mode keeps the phone at full power and come up with an app to do the same.

I've been looking at a few Apps (Screen On, Screen Timeout Widget, KeepScreen), but there are questions about each of them, uncertain compatibility with ICS, etc.
I did discover that when I had a Video playing (podcast through BeyondPod), the display did stay undimmed while I was plugged into Power. Navigation also works this way. Really crazy that this isn't an available option in the OS.
This worked on my old Droid, haven't tested on my Galaxy Nexus yet -- but hopefully the app is ICS compatible: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.probeez.liteprofiles&hl=en
Setting Profiles Lite is limited to one rule -- so make your one rule this: When charging, screen timeout=never (since this actually changes the screen timeout on the basic level, instead of the workaround that the Dev Settings option triggers).
(The full version of Setting Profiles will of course also do this, and I'm sure you can also do this with Tasker.)

[Q] cm9 buttons dont illuminate

I installed cm9 after using cm7 and cant get the four buttons on the phone to light up. They are accessible but not illuminated. has anyone else encountered this problem.
Also I was wondering if the Cm7 uses more battery than cm9
You have to use auto brightness.
cm9 illumination
If you mean display auto brightness ok but when I'm outside I can't see the screen...guess ibhave to toggle back and forth. I had switched back to cm7. In your opinion is 9 worth changing to. It seems like in 7 everything is working pretty well.
Thank you for the reply

Ive been using the dinc2 since last July and I got used to the buttons to the point that I noticed they didn't light up, but until I saw this post, I never considered it a "problem". Since I knew where they were and didn't need to see them to use them. If they ever do "fix" this issue I hope they allow for a settings option to keep them turned off. I actually enjoy them off, in my mind its just one more security feature. I know when my wife tries to use my phone she needs to see them, and since recently rooting to CM9 I don't want her bricking my phone. Because of the unlit buttons she has stopped using my phone (she uses some cheap AT&T phone, refuses to switch to Verizon). Just throwing my opinion in the mix. Thanks for the post as well I wasn't sure it was intentional or not.

I believe in the advanced brightness settings under CMSettings you can do just that. Whenever I run a CM rom, I always go to the brightness settings under edit Other Levels and set all the softkey values on the far right column to 255 so they're always the same brightness and look nice. I like the sheen they have, but I can only see it when they're close to full brightness.
If you did the opposite, set all the values to 0 and then click Save and Apply Values at the top of that screen, they should, theoretically, never turn on.
Thank you ....as I am new to a rooted phone and this forum I didn't know those adjustments were available...learn something new everyday ......
Does cm9 drain the battery alot quicker or is it unnoticeable

Unfortunately, I can't answer that question for you, as my phone doesn't like our ICS builds. Until we get a leaked official kernel and some source, I'm SOL.

Where exactly are these settings? Running CM7 with the same problem as the OP and can't find it anywhere. Edit: found the settings and putting them all at 255 didn't do anything. Any other ideas?

[Q] Display timeout-charging, not charging, won't auto turn off???

I have looked through this forum, in the QandA and have not seen anyone post this problem. Is anyone experiencing the issue where your screen wont auto turn off? I have changed display timeout to 30 seconds, 1minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes and so on... display wont turn off on its own. Also, when charging, if a notification comes up, screen awakes, but wont shut off again. Just curious if other users are having a similar issue or if I am the only one. I know this was a problem for S3 owners, but there was no real problem identifying what was causing it. Any help would be appreciated.
Set up as follows:
Stock JB Build
Rooted
Stock Kernel
(Only Titanium app data {not system} restored)
Almost all syncing data set to 1 hour refresh or greater
Smart Stay is turned off
Pattern Lock enabled
I think that covers most bases and options, but if I am missing something, I would love to know.

Thank you for your input. However, I had checked that option, it was not on to begin with, I turned it on, and then off again, it did not reenable itself, but it still is not the culprit. I am baffled right now.

I think I know what you are talking about. It's got to do with "Auto adjust screen tone" in Setting -> Display. For whatever the reason, transition between high brightness level and auto adjust screen tone isn't quite smooth. This happens all 3 of my Note 2 and S3. It's annoying as hell...
Let me know if that fix the flickering issue.
I have the same problem and every so often when useing the s pen the hole phone goes nuts, screen flipping by at a fast rate of speed and it is go from dim to bright to dim really fast too.
I have restart the phone and works for a few days and it comes right back.
Mike was it exposed to moisture? How long did you have the brighter note apk on there also?

I had the same issue. Its not a hardware issue or app or anything . You have to odin back stock . I won't go into detail but there is something stuck on your partition from a kernel it sounds to me that can only be removed by going back stock . That's a know issue with the note 2 with kernels. If you flashed a kernel that's why .

screen sleep issue

So let me know if you have the same issue... No matter how long I set my screen off time for, it always goes go sleep after 10 seconds!
Don't have that issue here. ATT version
I do not have that issue either (AT&T). Perhaps there is an email account or other "administrator" that requires a short screen timeout? I have seen that before.

The main screen. I turned moto display off and it still happens
I ever tried rebooting into safe mode and same problem.. Going to try a factory reset later
My motoz2 is doing this same thing. And it is frustrating. (Verizon). Have you figured out how to fix this?
Do you have adaptive brightness turned on?

So I did a master reset and didn't connect my tumi battery until the play store updated the moto mod app to the newest version.. No more screen issue! I highly recommend anyone who gets this phone, update the app first before you attach any type of mod.
