I have a T Mobile lock note 2.I was wondering what is the difference for updates between a locked T Mobile Phone and a unlock T mobile phone. Would I get different up dates with a unlocked phone.
Thanks
I am new to this phone and forum. I bought my phone from t mobil full price and Ido the pay as you go plan .

What you mean locked?
If sim locked vs sim unlocked, no diff
If rooted vs unrooted, no diff
If stock rom vs custom rom, then you cant update via tmobile unless you restore custom recovery and rom, but now you can use all the awesome custom roms out there (who'll incorporate all the updates anyways)

I just baught an unlocked galaxy s3. The guy i baught if from didnt know what carrier it came from or anything. So i was wondering if i flash a rom will i lose my unlock? Is there any way that i could accidently lose my unlock? How do i find out where this phone came from? And what if i do an update from the settings> about tab if there is one in the future?

You can flash as many ROMs as you want, you will not loose the unlock. You can check where the phone came from by the software code, but don't bother with it. Go to sammobile.com download latest software for your carrier and flash it with Odin. If you want to root it and try some jelly bean ROMs you can get rooted software for your carrier here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426

usually you can check the model no. on the back of the phone under battery and google search it for the service....
I'm looking for an unlocked Note II and have found one for a reasonable price but it's an AT&T version although it is indeed unlocked. Will I get updates at the same time as the international version or would I have to wait for an AT&T update?
Also, is it possible to flash/sideload the 4.2 camera apk without rooting?

You'll get the updates when the ATT version gets the update. The upgrade really goes by Model number and then region. Your model number is still SGH-I317.
Being unlocked just enable you to use a non-att sim card
Correct if it's just unlocked, you should have no problem getting updates.
If it's unlocked and a good deal, I assume you getting it from a private seller. Just be careful not to buy a stolen phone, they will block it by IMEI.
Just get one that is locked and unlock it yourself. Don't pay extra for one that's unlocked. There is a thread here on xda that shows you how to unlock the GN2 jus by entering a few codes.

Yes, you can flash 4.2 camera with no problems. I did.

If I did get the SGH ATT model, could I flash the N7100 stock image to it without rooting? If so, how would I do it?
And someone said the 4.2 camera can be flashed without root. How is this done?
You need to do some searching and reading, all the information you need can be found here on XDA.
But before you get in to trouble flashing I will tell you that you should not flash a ROM that is not made for you model (SGH_i317). If you have an AT&T phone only flash ROMs from the AT&T development section.
Here is a useful link to get you started:

i bought a new GN2 and it has firmware t889uvall4 which i need to downgrade in order to unlock. If i downgrade i would have to start setting my phone again from scratch. What's my best choice unlocking my sim with firmware t889uvall4
Best choice would be do a nandroid.
Flash the november release using odin from here showthread.php?t=1969551
dont set up anything just skip everything until you get to the home screen. unlock it using the service code method.
Once you do that you can restore your nandroid and be back to where you were to start but now you will be unlocked.
can I still revert back eventhough my device is unroot. I just
flash it via odin?

Best Choice is call t-mobile.
Unlocking the sim is now illegal on all phones purchased recently.
Plus by calling and getting the code (for free) you don't even need to toot.

What should i tell tmobile, i know that most of the time they refuse to give u the unlock sim. and those this void warranty?
someone said to nandroid which requires a different recovery. i'm trying to avoid root for warranty purpose so this option is no good for me.
EDIT: tmobile is willing to give the unlock code but my account has to be at least 60 days. i only have a week
If you bought the phone outright they should give you the code with no waiting period

illegal in the US. I'd take my device cross border to Mexico and voila. Piss on America's corporate friendly, consumer screwing laws.
That said, T-mo is pretty good about unlocking devices for you. I never had an issue in the past 10 years and I've unlocked 5 or so.

If the phone was properly unlocked in the first instance, it would be impossible to lock it back again as the unlocking process should survive any firmware upgrade. I'm somewhat puzzled by your question. Could you please clarify? The only way to test if it is still locked would be to put a non-standard SIM inside (i.e. any non AT&T sim). If it requests an unlock code, then it means it was not unlocked at first.
Yes I did this I put non-att Sim card and it requests an unlock code
Before flashing it was working 100% without att Sim but now NO

Were able to use the phone with another carrier's sim card? After fixing your phone, it will only work with an AT&T sim card?
Yes it like this
I am wondering from where could I get back the unlock code.
Any way any idea

Did you buy a code? If you did, the unlock code would not have changed as long as the imei did not change.
If it was unlocked when you received the phone, you'll have to buy another unlock code.
I'm surprised it became locked after it was bricked. I didn't think this would happen.
Are there any firmware for unlocked sgh-i747.

If you are on a stock ROM that is 4.3 or higher, you must buy a code.
Hi everyone,
Is there a way to flash the AT&T or any other Stock ROM to a T-mobile phone ?.
I'v tried ODIN (version 3.7, 3.8, 3.9 and 3.10) .and I can´t manage to get it flashed.
Tried by TWRP too, and it says thet the zip isnt good.
Thanks in advance.

You mean inderictly is it posible? (dont know how is inderectly ).
Yes, but it requires a seasoned developer to make the modifications necessary. I'm not sure why you'd want to do this though as the AT&T version is far more bloated.

Thanks for your reply.
I absolutely have no that kind of skill.
Anyway, the real reason I came up with that idea is because I cant unlock my T-mobile phone, and I live outside the US.
I've heard and read that sim unlocks by code are having problems.
Unfortunately, flashing firmware will not aid you in unlocking. Have you already tried buying a code for your device?

ROM = Firmware. They're interchangeable terms. Also MetroPCS is owned by T-Mobile, so I don't see your point. Flashing software does not unlock the SIM card slot.

Your phone was unlocked by code. It is permanent. It is not rom dependant. Just like you flashed a different rom than the metro pcs when you originally unlocked your phone, you can upgrade too.
Flash unbranded rom
I have an unlocked G920T (came locked from amazon, but unlocked easily via device unlock app preloaded)
Is there an unbranded firmware I can flash, even if its from a different variant?
Im also interested to know if i can flash a at&t firmware on my tmobile s6. Not for unlock but because the person i gave it to wants to use the ohone on at&t and feel like its an at&t phone. Whatever right? But can i do that? Or would it have to be a custom rom? Orignal firmware would be nice.
