[Q] Undervolt, setCPU, and DoomKernel v14 - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys. I'm using DoomKernel v14, so far so good.
I install setCPU and set a couple of profiles, but when I went to undervolt there was no undervolt tab on set CPU. To handle this, I install SetXperia but when I activate setCPU profiles on boot my Xperia PLAY crashed and reboot soon after boot. So, I guess I should NOT use setCPU and SetXperia at same time, problem is I need to undervolt my PLAY so I can squeeze more power from battery.
I read the documentation (well, sort of...) in SetCPU webpage and it states "The Voltages tab is only available with some custom kernels and devices. If the Voltages tab is available, it will automatically show up between the Governor and Profiles tabs. Otherwise, the Voltages tab is unavailable.".
Now my question is: Why SetCPU is not allowing me undervolt when is obvious that DoomKernel v14 allows this (SetXperia allow me to undervolt after all)?, more important, how do I fix it?, if I change to Lupus kernel will I be able to undervolt with SetCPU (will the undervolt tab be enable in SetCPU)?
Thanks.

Ok, I just install Lupus kernel and still there is no undervolt options in SetCPU.
I'm open to suggestions.

SetXperia can modify your voltages: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.SetXperia.Inteks.org
It works with both Doomkernel and Lupus.

Yeah, problem is, with SetXperia I can't set dynamic profiles like in SetCPU...

CM7 kernels with smartass

As the title says, just looking for a good kernel to use with cm7 rc1. A link would be great as well, cause when it comes to searching for roms I'm not bad, but I suck at finding kernels
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Incredikernel, I use it and it's great on battery..... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=848453
thanks! just flashed it and seems to be running great!
Having smartass just really makes life alot easier than having to use setcpu and all that stuff =D
so thanks again!
have you been running into trouble with setcpu in CM7. the built in overclocker works but when i try setcpu and go to the profiles tab it continually force closes. i want to be able to overclock when i plug in and underclock when battery gets low.

With Incredikernel, I have it on "smartass" governor, MIN cpu frequency at 128 MHz and MAX cpu at 1075 MHz and my battery is doing great. I've never had any luck with SetCPU on CM so I just go with the onboard CPU settings instead.

Tegrak Ultimate For Dummies...

I purchased Tegrak Ultimate, and I have SetCPU as well. Right now I am running Calkulin's ROM with Stock EL29 kernel. Trying to figure out Tegrak, but I'm not so savvey with knowing voltages and stuff like that.
I can OC up to 1.47ghz with Tegrak's presets, but I wanted to try and get it up to 1.6ghz OC. I know you have to adjust the voltages, but I can't figure out what I need to do to make it stable, the phone just freezes everytime I try and figure it out. Can anyone give me some knowledge?
It all depends on the kernel you're running. Tegrak is for stock kernels, while SetCPU is for custom kernels. Tegrak allows you to slightly overclock the stock kernel, as well as adjust voltages and change your governor. As you've found, the highest you can go with Tegrak is 1.462 (if I recall correctly). If you want to go higher, you will need to run a custom kernel, such as Steady Hawkin's Team Rogue offerings (like "Gunslinger" or "Hitman"), and use SetCPU. On Calkulin's ROM, having SetCPU installed will disable his battery saving script, which underclocks the CPU at certain battery levels so keep that in mind. I doubt that will matter to you though as you're interested in overclocking not underclocking.
For voltages, I tend to boost the top two CPU steps by 25mv then test for stability. If I have issues then I boost by another 25mv and so on until it's stable (assuming I can get it stable). I'm not big on overclocking this phone though, as I really find no reason to do so. In fact I underclock the top end to 1000mhz and everything I do on the phone still flies.
Honestly though, I don't find Tegrak all that great for overclocking. It's nice for underclocking and changing your governor on a stock GS2 kernel, but not so much for overclocking. That's just me though. Others may find it suits them just fine.
I find that Tegrak is great for undervolting the stock kernel. It allows you to undervolt both internal and core voltages as well as undervolt the GPU and adjust scheduler and governors. If you interested in staying at the stock clock speed and undervolting then Tegrak paired with the stock rogue repack kernel is the way to go.
If you are wanting to overclock and undervolt then programs like setcpu, voltage control, or pimp my CPU paired with the Gunslinger or Whitman kernel are the way to go. As for the programs they all do about the same thing. The only real difference is voltage control uses a script to load you clock/voltage settings and the others have to load at startup and run. So its all preferences. Also both pimp my CPU and setcpu are available for free on xda under the apps section of android development.
I am also running "Gunslinger", I use Tegrak Ultimate to fine tune my o/c after I load the "Overclock Module" and can go about 1.67 at 1.475v before all hell breaks loose if I go higher on o/c or votage. I also use Tegrak to o/c my GPU I have that running at 400mhz at 1100mv. Now I use System Tuner Pro, for freezing apps you can also set votage it also has more tweaks then Tegrak and will show o/c on what ever Tegrak is set at, but System Pro does not have GPU o/c, so I use each other Tegrak/System Pro to really fine tune the GS2 and get the most out of it, if you know what I mean.

Here is a good ballpark guide when using Tegrak.

About CPU frequency governor

I'm using arconium 8.0 with doomkernel v19, and recently install setCPU. In setCPU I can choose min/max cpu freq. and different governor. I just wonder what is the original governor of arconium? (or should it be decided by the kernel??) before I adjust anything in setCPU. And if I uninstall setCPU, will everything go back to original?
It's not in Acronium 8, but in the kernel used that the gouvernor and the frequencies are fixed on the init.d script. You can change both the frequencies and the gouvernor on set cpu. When ininstalled, they come back to the original values in the kernel.
If you use stock kernel, there is no settings for the gouvernor and the scaled frequencies.

Are you sure about this? They remain on last setting value if i remember right.

[Q] Overclocking and maintaining profiles with 2 different apps

I was just wondering will the 2 different apps clash if we use one app for undervolting and another app for profile and governor management ?
for example setxperia for undervolting and setcpu for profile management..both set on boot...
If you can select only the undervolt at boot from setxperia then should be ok. If not then they may be clashing, try incredicontrol for u/v.

[Q] how to use 180mhz leankernel?

Hi new around here. Been trying out the lean kernel after other kernels seem to SoD on me. However I see lean kernel has a 180mhz experimental version so I flashed it and checked out CPU spy it doesn't seem like it uses that MHz. Do I have to do something else to enable it? Do I have to down load trickster mod to under clock it or something or is the kernel supposed to use it automatically ?

Yes, if I'm correct the default MIN for leankernel was 350mhz. Use trickstermod and set CPU min to 180mhz. Make sure to set cpu settings on BOOT there should be a check box on trickstermod for that option
