Samsung keyboard not learning? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

To the Community:
I was using Swype, then I rooted and flashed Jedi X - 7.2 / Perseus so Swype disappeared and I had to start using the stock GN2 keyboard.
It's nice and all but I can't get it to learn words. Furthermore, where the heck is the dictionary?
Thanks in advance!

You have to add the words you want it to learn, secondly you can adjust the keyboard settings like this; from the home screen hit menu>settings>language and input> you will see the keyboards and next to them is a slider like icon. Magic. Bacon. Glitter.

Hi KillaHurtz / The Community --
thanks for your reply but there's no <<Magic. Bacon. Glitter.>> for me. Below are the pics of options I have on my phone that go Settings > Language and input (photo #1) > Samsung keyboard settings icon (photo #2) > Advanced (photo #3) No slider-like icon. No dictionary settings. Nada.
Furthermore you said <<You have to add the words you want it to learn...>> and that's exactly why I posted my problem. How does one add the words I want it to learn?
Thanks in advance.

Best most iphone like keyboard

I'm going to admit that I love the iphone keyboard
The spacing between the keys just works for me
I've been trying to duplicate that on my evo and having a hard time
Tried swype and eh
Tried swiftkey and its great but keys are super close to each other
Tried the droid multi touch and it feels slow
Tried htc mod and its closer since I can modify the spacing but still Its a bit slow
Anyone have any recommendations or tips for a keyboard

All the ones I would recommend you already listed! lol. My two favorite are swiftkey and swype. I haven't seen any keyboard like Iphones. Maybe better keyboard? You can always search the market and download some of the free keyboards and see if you like them. Good luck!
Free or paid?
Smart keyboard is pretty close to the keyboard. And if you want it to look like the iphone turn the alt labels off with caps always on in the setting.

Sweet I bought it hopefully works well
Thanks for the suggestion
Well I have to say that even after 30 min of having it. It is already by far the best android keyboard I have used. I am in love with it thanks for the awesome suggestion!
I definitely agree. I got Smart keyboard on Thursday and I'm hooked. Lots of great customization as well. Check out the iPhone skin (although it may be enabled by default.) I'm using the black skin. LOVE IT.

Yeah I'm using iPhone skin now ,its great.
I love how quick it pops up and its not laggy to type on. And the layout.
Those were my biggest gripes with every other one I tried . Laggy and lame layout \ spacing
thanks to you guys i am now flying, literally on smart keyboard.
jesus this can actually keep up with my typing speed, to which i can fly on this phone.
awesome stuff thanks for the tip y'all

Replacement keyboard

Can anyone recommend a great replacement keyboard from the stock samsung keyboard.. i dont use Swype at all.. My main issue with the keys is that its too tightly put together and making LOTS of typos.. been using the phone for close to 2 months already.

Try searching the forum for HTC IME mod, imo its the best android keyboard available, made even better by jonas

Even I am looking for a replacement keyboard. The issue with Swype is that the keys are small leading to lots of errors and since my native language is not supported I can't swype all the words.
Samsung is good as far as keys are concerned but only issue with it is that if you have to input numbers or some symbol you have to go to a different screen whereas on other keyboards you can long press a certain key and the corrosponding no or symbol is displayed.
If samsung had that option it would have been great.
I have downloaded smart keyboard and it does look good. Lets try it for sometime and see how it goes.
Tried smart keyboard for a few days and i dont really see any improvements... the "." is just placed to close on the space key
The HTC mod keyboard does not work after an upgrade to froyo. Any way of making that work?

Any keyboard out there with the same layout / distancing as the Iphone keyboard but retains the stock SGS or andriod look... I find texting on an ip3Gs / ip4 about 2x better compared to my SGS.
Swiftkey is the best keyboard I have found by far
Swiftkey looks nice, but it has very limited set of keyboard layouts.
For example, it is very funny that is supports Swedish language prediction, but not the Swedish keyboard layout.
Not very speedy to input Swedish words, when you are missing å, ä and ö keys
I always keep going back to the black droidx keyboard.. love how the keys are alittle bigger

HTC IME MOD Keyboard
Hi All,
I am using HTC IME Mod ported from HTC bu some XDA developers (not by me) and works great on SGS Froyo.
Just install both .apk files using file manager and then select the HTC Keyboard from the Locale and text...thats it...
Hey Guys opened a thread months ago.. D All Keyboards and so there

Starting to stick to Droid x keypad as well.. Easy for quick typing
All of the keyboards around basically have the same spacing in them.. the distance on the iphone keyboard seems to be perfect.. for about 5 months with the samsung keyboard i still get a lot of typos
I actually use Smart Keyboard Pro and find it great.

Best keyboard app for SGSII?

Hey,
Whats the Best keyboard app for SGSII?
What do you guys use for faster typing?
Thanks.
Latest Swype, it's amazing.
Trying the TouchPal V5.1 now, it's amazing too so far, lets see with which one I fix at last.
There were already some threads regarding this too.

5.1? Where did you find it please? It's not on market and maybe I've missed some twit from cootek. It's my main keyboard for month!
I prefer the standard Gingerbread keyboard. You can download it from the Android Market. Once you use it for a good period of time, you get used to it.

SwiftKey X is excellent! Definitely worth the money. Go and download the one month trial.
ive tried a lot of them but keep going back to the htc mod someone made for it. Still the best one in my opinion
Swype

I would be interested in new keyboard .. but I don't want any prediction. I want nice layout portrait and landscape, perfect reaction time. Customizable layout would be sweet, as so far, nothing really fits my needs.
Edit: looks like Smart Keyboard is going to cut it for me ! Lots of customization .. and some neat Czech options ..
Swiftkey X. My typing is TERRIBLE but it has fantastic auto-correction, so now I never have to worry about typos.

+1 for SwiftKey X
and also this is what I like about this keyboard:
- great prediction and auto completion,
- simultaneous use of different languages so don't have to remember to change language like in swype
- It can even predict little town names (at least in UK) and start them with capital letters.
- when you want to come back to previous words, you can still use dictionary, it doesn't treat them as a bunch of single letters but as a word.
It was my best buy from the market.

Well... That's very nice. I'll have to give that keyboard a try.
Edit: Predictions are excellent, I've got to say. Very nice keyboard.
And having two languages at the same time is killer
I'm using Swype. Couldn't stand Swiftkey because it kept predicting the wrong words for me.
That said, I do love the latest Swype with prediction.
Swiftkey
Its by far the best, and gets better the longer you use it.

The latest beta 3.26 is the best one yet. Get's my vote by far, and I've bought other keyboards. Excellent multi-language support and editable dictionary, gestures, etc. It's getting to be amazing.
nothing beats gingerbread keybard or latest swype is good

[APP] SwiftKey Flow BETA APK

Finally here! Swifykey Flow - swype style typing with much better prediction, more function, beauty and intuition.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/jy192v5qrj7hqfg/com.touchtype.swiftkey.phone.flow.obeta_4.0.0.54.apk
Enjoy!
I love the fact that you can swype entire sentences now.. you just have to swype down to the space bar in order to go to the next word. VERY cool. The only gripe I have at the moment is the animation for typing single letters at a time. It doesn't really show the entire pop up animation, and when it does it's a little quirky. The whole point of flow is the gestures, so not really a big deal!
Yeah, it's got a few quirks. I also found it will only allow tap typing in certain fields. So far I'm loving it.
I try everything passible and can't get to pass downloading linguage (english US). Any idea?
Edit: never mind.. i uninstall and reinstall app and everything is good..
Seems pretty good so far. I've been using Swype for years, as long as I've had Android phones. Recently tried Swiftkey because I was curious about the next-word prediction, but I couldn't NOT be able to swype. So this is the best of both worlds.
Just waiting for them to enable it in all fields (hopefully) and also hope they improve the editing of predicted words (click anywhere in a word to get other options, more than 2 alternatives would be nice as well).
Been waiting for this for a while now. Using it to type this right now! I love swype and SwiftKey and I'm hoping this is the best of both worlds. It's definitely not prefect yet, they need to work out how to edit the predictions instead just predicting the next right away. But I guess that's kind of the best part of SwiftKey so they need to figure that out!
Thanks alot fit for posting this though!

RENOVATE, why don't you stick with the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" principle?

RENOVATE, why don't you stick with the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" principle?
I'm referring to the RENOVATE team's decision to do away the input method notification from the notification bar. Yes, monolinguals may not change their keyboard for their whole life, but multi-linguals like me speak and write 4 languages and change keyboard many times a day! This newly introduced "feature" (read: bug) is so irritating that I have to flash another ROM. The input method notification is there for a reason! If it ain't broken, don't ever fix it! The RENOVATE team can feel free to disable it by default if they like, but not give people options to enable it?

For this problem, you'd better write to the leader of the team, because you can't write in Renovate's Thread..

Thank you mate. The app works. For the time being I think it's the best solution.
But still, AOSP has a built-in feature that works just fine and then someone decided that the users can't use it because they don't use it, and now I have to download an app to do what I used to be able to do. It is just not right. I'm very disappointed at this kind of attitude.
Re: RENOVATE, why don't you stick with the "If it ain't broken, don't fix it!" princi
Top be honest mate you can't please all the people all the time and you might not like it but others will do unless you're going to build your own Rom then your bang out of luck.
Sent from a Blunt smoker
Well, considering we do this for free... and most of us use SwiftKey anyways it's our choice in the end whether we want to include that function or not.

Well i didnt know we had so many multi language speaking users! For most people, they set up a keyboard, then they won't ever change it, therefore the notification coming up every time you write something gets really annoying. If it's such a big deal i'll add the keyboard switcher back in.
Wouldnt it of been a lot easier to just ask nicely in thread and not create a thread about it?
and long press to kill apps is 100% working how it should be.

He can't post in Development threads since he's a new user mate.
IceColdJelly (or AOKP, not sure) has the option to disable the keyboard popping up in the notification bar - i disabled it my self. It should atleast be a user choice. On the other hand, if it can be revived by a simple app, the devs may remove it if they wish, its their project, and its done free of charge in spare time
