[Q] How to move apps from internal to SD card? - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hey yall just wanting someone to explain in simple terms how to move my apps from internal storage to SD card. like 85% of my internal space is taken up by apps. i know technically its not supposed to affect performance but i think it is in a secondary way. can someone please explain how to transfer apps and if it can be done with a file explorer app or if it has to be done in PC?
TIA

Go for Link2SD! One and only solution!

In settings applications manage applications click on each one. If the move to USB button is not greyed out hit it.

Just make sure you don't use a widget with an app you want to move. It won't work if the apps on the sd card.

Thanks, I now see astro can see my micro sdcard and I can install apps that way but why does samsung make their file structure so limiting?

Youre running stock? I'm wondering if stock doesnt have this problem. Didnt bother checking.
Some apps such as Root Explorer you will find it located at mnt/extSdCard. Also for some app settings you can point to that. It works for me anyway.
EDIT: Ok just downloaded ES File explorer and figured it out. If you're rooted check 'root explorer' on and check 'Up to root'. Once you do that you can go up to parent folder and select mnt. There you will find /extSdCard.

Issue is your apps can't use external sd card which sucks and no current rom from what I read fixes this because it is a Google screw up on purpose in Ics and jelly bean. You can only use internal memory to install apps now and I am pretty sure Google is doing this on purpose so you store more in their cloud and they can harvest your data more easily for targeted ads. If you install a lot of games from game loft forget it your 16gb internal memory is shot quick and your large sd card is sitting there empty.

Create a folder called external_sd on your internal sd card and download the app ics sd binder and it will mount it to there

In ES Explorer you have to go to settings to allow "Root" in order to see your micro sd card in /mnt/extsdcard.
I'm certainly no expert here, but I don't think Google/Samsung have a conspiracy going. Coming from the Linux world, it's a common thing to mount storage under /mnt. The location of the external sd was also a bit weird on my last phone, the Moto Atrix. When it came out it took a while for app developers to adjust their programs to accommodate it (i.e., Titanium Backup). Hopefully the same will happen soon with the S III. As for the ability to move apps to the external sd, I'm not so sure that's a good idea anyway. For me doing that on any Android phone has always been somewhat problematic. I pretty much just use the sd for media storage now.

I dont need root (I dont even have root access on this phone) and I can see my SD card with any apps and I never needed to mount the card either.
I dont know what you are all doing wrong.

Exactly what I was trying to say. Why cant we navigate to /mnt and pick our storage ourselves.

Or maybe they just don't want to make average users go through a file explorer if possible?
It's not a conspiracy, even if you think it is.

Can't delete nandroids on ROM Manager

I've always used ROM manager to make, rename or delete a nandroid. The app shows that there are no backups but when I go into CWM it shows there are 6! I tried to save my current setup and was unable to because there is no available memory.
Those 6 are clogging up potential available space does anybody know how else I can delete them?? I searched a bunch of files in Root Explorer but couldnt find anything. I want to check out TWRP because I hear a lot of hype about it but need to get this situation dealt with first.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated

Did you set up which location you're storing it in... In ROM manager that is. You should check out both your emmc and sd card or uhhh depending on your Rom, sdcard and ext

There it is, nice!! External SD Card. I can't believe I overlooked that file. Thank you for the help!
I obviously can't see what's right in front of my face, I swear I could be in a room with an elephant and not even know it was there :silly:
Yeah you could set up ROM manager to external sd card so you can organize it that way lol. And that phrase is totally used out of context but works lol

[Q] Apps to sd on the T-mo S3, possible?

My space is slowly disappearing and I would like to move my apps to my ext. sd card. I'm rooted currently running the awesome 1.40 Paranoid Kang rom and have a 16 gb sd card. I've searched but haven't been successful in finding anything. Is this possible to do and if so could someone get me headed in the right direction? Thanks in advance for any help.
Try downloading ROM toolbox I think you can do it with the app

Thanks. I just got the app but am unclear on how to do it. Do you know how? Thanks.

Sorry rom toolbox will only work if you install new apps scroll down and you should see app to SD and hit external and all new apps should install there.
try titanium backup hit the check mark at the top right and scroll down you should see move apps to SD card

Does rom tool box allow game data to transfer as well? If not and you're a heavy gamer, you can use Directory Bind to have game data to your external while binding it to the game in the internal. I'm saving well over 10gb off my internal by doing this.

Still Having Storage Issues...

Sorry to bother you guys once again. But I'm still having some issues with my.phone storage. I can't figure out why everything is installing onto my USB storage instead of my SD card.
I don't really know how to exactly explain it. So what I did was take a screenshot of before and after, to try to show you what I mean...
This first screenshot is taken of an app I have. I went to my.task manager then to the downloads tab, and I chose an app that said it was "installed on device".. & this is what it says:
*(look at 1st picture)*
Ok.. So I click.on the "move to SD card" button, hoping to move it to the card.. I wait a few, then this next picture, is what it says after:
*(look at 2nd picture)*
I thought it was supposed to move it to SD card, but if you look at the numbers, there is still nothing on the SD card..
Why is this happening.. & how can I fix it, so it actually moves to the card? I'm running out of space on my USB storage..
Please help. Thanks guys
So, anyone have any.ideas.on how to fix my.storage issue?? Any.suggestions?? My.USB storage is almost full & my card is basically.empty.. I need to figure out what the problem is... I would appreciate any help at all. Thanks guys.

Are you on a stock ROM or on a JB leak?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
When you go to settings > storage and press the menu button is there an option for storage location? If there is switch it from internal to external. USB storage(internal) is seen as an SD card so move to SD moves it to rhe internal SD which has mucb higher read write speeds than an external class 10. You can also swap you camera location to external and download location to external and use internal for all apps. Even if you swap locations you're going to be limited to one or the other you can't use both at once for apps2sd

I went to settings, storage, then pushed menu button, but nothing happens. No menu came up.
I want everything to basically go to my external SD card. Any other way to default to my card??

[Q] sd card help please

I rooted my s4 but I have no clue how to move anything to the micro sd card its 32 gigs class 4 I bought music from the playstore and some apps and just want to move it to the sd. This is my first android I had ipod/iphones before this
Welcome to Android
First off, congrats on the switch to Android. I personally believe you won't want to go back to iPhone. With that said, I don't have my S4 yet, but if it's anything like other Androids, you can use a file app (I use Astro) and move any files back and forward as you see fit. You can also mount the phone to a PC and move it that way or put the SD card itself in the PC. If your filling up the whole 32GB or a lot of data, the fastest would probly be mounting the SD card itself into the PC.
Hope this helps, but then again.... I'm still waiting for the S4 to release in my area.
I found a way to move the music to sd card just not apps I think they made it harder to move because no apps I download do it but ill try astro. Ipod/iphone jailbreaking is simpler lol.

Not if you plan to install games.
I have a 32gb iPhone 5 and have at least 17gbs in games alone.
I'm also looking for a way to install apps on the SD card.
I haven't open my GS4 yet so I can return it incase we can't.
600+ for a 9GB is a not good.
@@@use " link2sd " application...download from play store...its not only let u too move apps to sd...and u can also uninstall unwanted system apps if u [email protected]@@
