Looking for "shortcuts" developement - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

I am looking for, or trying to create shortcuts that would open a doc with an app. Example would be to open a specific pdf with "docs to go" I would like the ability to create the custom short cuts and place them in a home screen. I'm running Clean ROM 3.3 with Perseus kernel on i317. I could live with an app if there is one or would donate to development. Sorry if this is the wrong place for thos post or if its a stupid question.

Are u saying specific files with docs to go.. and other files with same file extension with another app? If so.. that'd be difficult unless u set 'said' extension to 'no' default, so it asks u each time. But if not, read the next part.
If you're just looking to create shortcuts to, say documents, you can do this: probably need a custom launcher.. I think (I use nova launcher but they all support shortcuts). Then download a file explorer like Solid Explorer. Then long press on a home screen, select shortcut, choose solid explorer, navigate to file u want to link to.
Hope that's what u were asking.

I dont have defaults set because I need the system to "ask" each time I open a file. I use quite a few editors for different reasons. ES File allows u to long press for shortcut if you have defaults set. What I need is an "open file with" shortcut. I've never had the need until I bought the Note 2. The size and power has made it a valuable tool and more portable than my tab.

If your defaults are cleared then it should ask each time you launch the shortcut "Complete action using", etc.etc.

You might want to read the post. You didnt answer the original question, only clarified my response

I am the one that must apologize I misunderrstood your response. I did somehow set some defaults. I cleared and both Root Explorer and ES File shortcuts work not totally what I want but will do the trick. Thanks for the help and again, sorry.

I've used file explorer, navigate to the file or doc, long press on it and create shorcut

Sense UI for Launcher Pro

After doing some research, found this sense ui dock bar for launcher pro. This will replace the dock for launcher pro with the sense dock. I run cyanogen and really like the sense dock so I found out a way to bring the best of both worlds.
Download link:
http://db.tt/3pXEKny
Instructions:
1. Extract zip to your sd card (any folder of your preference)
2. At your home screen do as follows
Menu
Preferences
Appreance settings
Dock background
Choose custom and locate the folder in which you extracted the downloaded zip.
Pick the image with the sense dock.
3. Now you have to setup your icons.
Launcher pro has 5 dock icons you can arrange. Set them up as the following using the blank image attached with the zip.
On the left should be your app drawer.
The 3 middle icons should be setup as phone.
And finally and lastly the icon on the right can be setup to whatever you choose. (I have mine setup as browser).
Have fun.
Sense wallpaper is also attached with zip.

Awesome, Thanks!
When I try to select the image, it doesn't show up in the gallery. Yes, I've extracted the zip file. It just seems that no png file shows in the gallery.

That's weird shows up for me. Where do you have it installed?
[G2/HTC Vision]
They are in the same folders the other pictures are in. They do show when I use the JustPictures! app, just using the Gallery.

Try moving them to the download folder? Have mine in there and it shows up in my gallery app.
[G2/HTC Vision]
Doesn't change anything. Also, I've read that when you select Custom it asks you what program you want to use. Well, it automatically selects the Gallery even though it's not the default app to view pictures.

Not sure why you can't see it in your gallery. I can see all the files in my gallery. Maybe a app is blocking you from seeing it. Not quite sure but I def can see it. Have you tried a reboot?
[G2/HTC Vision]
That did it. Thanks. I thought I had already done that. Guess not. After all that, it didn't suit my taste, but thanks. I'm sure quite a few people out there will use it though.

No problem. If you look at the op I put a updated version at the bottom. Click the link. Looks a little better.

The folders i mean is shown there under games utilities etc. Really need to find an app that can help me
I use folder organizer for this, accepts custom icons'n all..
Only cons. Can't lock folders within, you'll need a 2nd for that.
But don't think there's any folder org* which does this (able to lock folders )
Left Bottom:
Games folder, includes 16 games.
From Top Right:
Tools folder: 12apps
Info folder: 4apps
Market Folder Includes diffr. markets..
With no txt labels:
^^it's my current, No ugly folders If you ask me that is, and all apps i folder is not to find in appdrawer.. (LauncherPro ability)
But main answer, there's plenty of free folder org. in market, free-ones as well, mine is the paid Folder organizer as said, but free ver. got almost same functionality
Ok ive dow.loaded Folder Organizer but I dont have a clue what im doing, how do I just create a folder then when I click on it it opens the box with apps in! Thanks
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Go launcher makes folder icons that look exactly like the iPhone. All you do is drag and drop one icon into the other.
Sent from my Captivate.
Open folder org. And organize all inside. Long press move to desired folder, make new if you want. To the right you see a dropdown menu, like on left side. Right side lets you add new icon, sort, unistall and so on.
To add to homescreen, add shortcut/folder org folder/choose folder. Done
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Or just make the folder u want, name it what you want, and open the app folder, from there move the desired aps to desired folder, all apps is listed there with folder name, press left dropdown and check another box. Simple as that. This is under labels btw, same goes for above.
Hope it made you sense.

Change UA String

Does anyone know how to change the UA String on this phone or even if it is possible. I know it was easy as typing "about:debug" in the browser to unlock that setting when using HTC phones but cant seem to find anyway to change it for the E4GT. The "Desktop View" option in the browser settings does nothing.

Nope. Still giving me the mobile view. Guess I gotta use another browser.
About:useragent
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
the problem with using that on the stock browser is that it doesnt stick. I always have to go to about:useragent.
i got tired of that so now i just use a different browser. I really like boat browser.
If you do it a few times it will auto complete, works fine for me

Try Boat Browser: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...51bGwsMSwxLDEsImNvbS5ib2F0YnJvd3Nlci5mcmVlIl0.
I love the controls of the browser, couple screenshots below. Another thing I like is it gives you the option to automatically clear history when exiting the browser which is good for privacy, if you like that feature.
If you press the 2 up arrows in the bottom right you get this pop up and options (its customizable too):
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
UA string options:
Then if you press the menu capacitive button you get some more:
Thanks for the suggestions. I just decided on using a different browser. Can't see myself having to do the user:agent thing everytime I open the browser. Hopefully some thoughtful dev will fix that in an upcoming ROM.

Repost of xperiacle's topic from international. N3
Hello Friends,
Just thought I will share a very simple app I made to enable or add additional apps for Samsung's Galaxy Note series with PEN WINDOW feature like the Galaxy Note 3. For those who are willing to try, please do and would appreciate feedback. I have not tested it on a Note 3 device yet because I don't have a Note 3 so I am requesting for testers.
First, make sure you are rooted with busybox installed.
Second, make a backup.
Third, just download below and install as nornal.
Finally, just tick the apps you want and don't forget to press the save button. A soft reboot maybe required for the changes to take effect.
NOTE: If you have previously edited others.xml or features.xml, you may have introduced some errors to the xml file layout which would prevent this app from properly functioning. Editing the said xml files manually is not advisable due to human error of breaking the xml structure by accident. If this app does not work after previously manually editing the said xml files, then I suggest you restore the original unedited xml files.
For those who don't seem to have a /system/csc folder and either others.xml or features.xml files in said folder, then you may want to try a custom rom that includes it but if you want to try, you can create the csc folder and procure a copy of others.xml or features.xml and put it inside the csc folder.
Have FUN!

Thanks deeznutz1977. I happen to post something about this in Q&A earlier. Maybe Moderator might wnat to combine in this thread as it is better in Apps section. Regardeless, this is a great feature and I'm amazed at how fast development is moving along. I hope that making floating windows is not restricted to Pen Manager. On my GN2 I can open floating window from any short cut I set up (from screen or side bar launcher). This is nicer. BTW, to make your floating window experience complete, do a long press on the microphone key on the samsung keyboard. You are given an option to make a floating keyboard, like on the galaxy note 8 tablet! I had happened to notice this when I was checking it out at the T-Mobile store. Dang! I'm getting mine tomorrow!
Working great for me. Thanks!

I'm trying to take off some of the default apps and I don't seem to be able to do it. anyone else have this problem?
Did you restart your phone after?
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk 2
yes. All of the apps (save one) that I picked were there as well as the defaults.
dunno if it makes any difference, but when i initially loaded the app, it was blank on the side where the selected apps would be. none of the default apps were available to be chosen to be listed either.
floating windows without pen app
Hi. It looks like you can make floating apps without pen using Xposed and Multiwindow manager. Needs further testing but check out my post here

[Q] How to create home-page folder?

I see a nice Google folder on my home page but nowhere do I see any way to create new ones.
Has anyone figured out how to create new folders on the Home?
Long press does not yield this option like it used to.

Found some info
Inm the online manual found here http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...8/SM-T800_UM_EU_Kitkat_Eng_Rev.1.0_140530.pdf
This does not appear to work on some devices (of course after posting this I must have got some sort of update or a service installed because its now working as intended)
Creating a folder
1 On the Classic Home screen, tap and hold an app, and then drag it to Create folder that
appears at the top of the screen.
2 Enter a folder name.
3 Tap , select the apps to move to the folder, and then tap Done.
Instead you have to do it from the Apps Drawer.
Tap the 3 dots in the top-right corner to get this menu then when you have created the folder, long press it to add it to your Home.

If your rooted than use
"Root Explorer"
: Navigate to folder/file or make a new folder/file
: now long hold on the folder/file you created and near the bottom of the menu you will see "create shortcut" and tap it.
: now back out to your home screen and you should see the folder/file
