I just got a replacement from Asurion. Ive got a ton of stuff on the broken phone that I really don't want to lose.
Is there a way to clone my old phone so I don't lose my data. Is it as easy as making a back up of the old phone and restoring it on the new one with CWM?
Edit: I mean copy all my stuff from my old phone not clone

Last I checked, cloning refers to copying an ESN/IMEI from another device, which IS illegal.

Yes, I've done backups and restored it on another phone like 4 times in the past week (Verizon CLNR's suck) and not a single problem each time. I used TWRP if it matters.

OP didn't mention ESN/IMEI in any way shape or form. Your statement was made on you not reading the post properly and making assumptions before asking what was ment. Very clearly the OP is wanting to clone the OS and data on the device which is perfectly legal. To answer your question OP yes you can clone it, what condition is your device in? Can it turn on or be accessed through adb?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
OP really should've asked if they can transfer the data from the old phone to the new one. By mentioning the word 'clone' it was open for interpretation...

he may have worded the title wrong.. but he clearly said in the op that he "doesnt want to lose data"
Oh crap... If it had known what cloning was, I definitely wouldn't have worded it that way.
So, I tried restoring a current back up. But, it gives an error when it gets to restoring system. Luckily, I had enough forethought to make a stock back up of the new phone.
I was able to save most of my data by pulling the titanium back up and dcim folder off of the old phone.
The only things I lost, that I can find are the download folder. Because, I forgot to pull it, and the AOKP settings that I had changed. That last part is going to be a pain. But, I guess it's better that dealing with a shattered screen. Lol.

Can I flash .zip themes for aokp on my black ice rom??? There is a great new theme for aokp and I wanna doeble check and make sure its compatible

Make a nandroid backup and flash it. If it breaks something then no, you can't flash it.
Does anyone else have a response that isn't "hope for the best?"
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
No one will be able to tell you that 100% your phone will be fine. It takes literally 5 minutes to nandroid, 10s to flash, 30s to boot, and then 5 more minutes to nandroid back if it doesn't work.

No need to apologize haha I know making nandroids can be a pain but they're usually the easiest/fastest way to find out if something will work for you.

How is his reply nasty? It's the same warning posted on ant modification thread: "I am not responsible for anything that happens to you from this. Always make a nandroid".
Telling you to backup, try it yourself (which us the best way to learn), and restore if necessary is not nasty/mean/sarcastic/etc. If anything, it's one of the nicer ways to respond considering the environment on xda.

Your IMEI is your phone's ID number to the network. No IMEI = goodbye connectivity to ATT/Tmobile/etc. Your phone just lost it's 2g/3g/4g capabilities. In the world of Apple, it's like your iphone turning into an ipod touch.

No, Samsung phones from way back have had a history of corruption of the EFS partition/file/whatever.
This happened to me with my captivate a few years ago the only way to fix it was to send it to Samsung for a factory firmware reflash.

yeah there is, but you have to have a backup of your original IMEI... which i assume you do not have. there is a thread about this issue in the dev section, and toolkit to back up your IMEI
just out of pure curiosity, what recovery are you using?
Nope, I do not have a backup.
Just search in the development section for imei recovery and there is one to get it back even without a backup. Might be issues with you not actually getting 4g again but this way you can return it back to complete stock.

That's not true. Very experienced android flashers have lost theirs, it's a fluke within the recovery and flashing a rom or modem anything being flashed has been reported to make it being lost. Only thing is I think TRWP hasn't been reported to cause it being lost. Anywho... back it up.

So I used triangle away app and also did a full stock restore. I'm wondering though could Sprint ever tell I had it rooted and had custom kernels before or should we be all set? I can honestly tell you that it is now an issue. Until we see things changed with the DCMA, it's now fair game to question all devices again, regardless of age. That's the way it's being handled.
I have sent a subject related question to our FSM's here for them to talk and discuss, while MSL obtaining talk is still OK, you have every reason to be concerned on what tech may look at. We have a few tech's in this forum who can speak better to what the directives are now on their level, but I do know that initial reps and managers have been instructed to pay more attention.
TL;DR - I know this is off topic from your op, but you're right to be concerned.

Make sure there is no rom zips or superuser folders on your internal sd card as well. Just to be sure

If the flash counter is 0 and device status says Official, they won't say anything. They can not deny a claim based on intent from having something on the SD.
