hello all
i just upgraded to the Tmobile GS2 from my trusty old Nexus One. I must say I do miss my good ol' nexus but i am truly falling in love with the beast that is the GS2!
anyways, after having the device for you know, 10 hours, I decided it was time to root it. The root went smoothly, CWM, Titanium, and SU are all working properly.
However, I have tried to flash several kernels but I am not able to overclock using any overclocking app, and in ABOUT PHONE it says im just on kernel 2.6.35.11. Making me think that the kernel flash did not happen , although it did say that it was completed successfully each time. I have noticed bits and pieces of other people having a similar issue, although I havent found a fix.
Does anyone know why my GS2 wont take to the kernel I am flashing over it?
That's weird have you flashed bullet or synergy kernels cause they have boot animation, and so you will no 4Shore if it stuck. Also in about phone you will see the bullet or synergy.

ah yes thank you for reminding me I forgot to mention this.
YES I DO GET THE BOOT ANIMATIONS. But nothing in ABOUT PHONE and SetCPU or any other similar app cant change the Governor or Max/Min settings.....Im super confused
Can you post a link to the kernel you're trying to install? Only certain ones are compatible with the Stock image you're running.
Are you wiping cache/dalvik? If yes, when?

I have tried to install (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1348007) BULLET versions 2.9b and 2.7b! I have also tried the newest Synergy (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1333128) kernel.
I have been wiping cache from CWM after flashing kernel. The only way I know to wipe dalvik is from flashing via rom manager, but I dont like doing that so much. Should I be? Thank you for your help already, I will do whatever you tell me to lol
I should also note that I am not looking to run a custom ROM, at least not at this time. I have my stuff already set up very nicely and would like to keep everything as is (no wipe) , just get that kernel working....
This time, try going to "Advanced" while in CWM; then 'Wipe Dalvik Cache', you might get an ext-sd card error, but your dalvik will still wipe; and then try flashing the kernel.
If that fails, goto "Mounts and Storage" and wipe your cache partition, then dalvik, THEN try flashing.
Get back to us! Always nandroid backup before this procedure as well.
A lot of the custom roms here (with the exception of juggernaut) show a static name for the kernel, regardless of which one you have installed. Juggernaut is the only one that will show the true kernel version. You may very well have installed the new kernel, and just can't tell because the name doesn't show up in about phone.

Thank you! Your first method appears to have worked for me. I can now OC. Related question, what are the details on the new smartassv2 governor and lagfree governor. How do you all find that they compare to the interactive governor, which I am used to using on my N1.
During the time of me writing this response, my phone restarted itself automatically, something that has been happening with the my S2 regardless of which kernel (even stock), do you all experience this aswell? is there a fix?
to mstrk242: thank you for this note, I did not realize.
Yes, here's another ICS ROM to add to the bunch.
Except this time, its ODEXED=Faster/Better!

Nope. That's a Samsung Dialer so that will only work on Touchwiz roms unless it is ported for ICS. Which it isn't.
The UI of this ROM is pretty darn similar to regular AOKP, except there's the addition of odexed optimization and other goodies that facilitate life. And a better kernel IMHO.
Good Job~
Never try ODEXED in ICS ROM, I think I will find time to try this one.
Thanks so much.

I read always the OP, but don't follow it if I don't like the steps.
Before flashing an ICS ROMs there is no need to format system. I've done it only 2-3 times so far. But looking into the updater-script I didn't notice any line of formatting system.

Actually, in the past, I have had problems formatting system in mounts and storage before flashing this rom.
Lemme check install scripts of other roms if they format system or not...thanks for input. But it does boot right for someone?
EDIT: You are right, my script needs formatting of system. Can someone do a format of system in mounts and storage before installing this ROM, then reboot into recovery again, and then install the ROM, and reboot, and tell my if the ROM boots properly? I'll fix any install errors you get...Thanks in advance, much appreciated.

May I ask what you mean by "lost recovery"? Because no matter how I brick my phone, I can still get into recovery using the button combo...
Having only dabbled with rooting and upgrading a Evo View tablet, I jumped into the deep end with my Incredible 2.
I got it to S-off and rooted and have been trying a few different ROMS (mostly chillybean's) and have what seems to be a common problem:
Sound works fine until a call is received. The ringtone fails to play and then sound doesn't work at all until its reset. I have had success resetting the sound by activating Google Voice Search with a long press of the search button. This seems to be true for CM10.2 and PAC. I didn't test this on an Evervolv because 3G never comes back on after Wi-fi has been turned on.
Has anybody had better luck with a particular 4.3 ROM? Does this sound issue affect pre-4.3 JB roms?
Thanks!

The 929 rom is not working for me and I know at least of couple of other folks in the same situation.
Are you using the 929 ROM with sound successfully? What - exactly - did you do to install it? I'm wondering if it's a I'm-doing-something-stupid/wrong thing or maybe a hardware revision thing.
Thanks!

Flashed it like any new ROM. Backup important data and reboot into recovery mode. Once in recovery mode:
Factory reset
Wipe cache
Advanced -> wipe dalvik cache
Mount/unmount -> format system
Format boot
Install AntiVenom SDW
Flash a ROM
Flash GApps
Wipe dalvik cache
Reboot and you should be golden. I've had it hang at the boot screen a few times, had to start over and skip installing GApps until I was sure it would boot.

I flashed Evervolv 10/30 nightly yesterday and it looks like they have the 3G/WiFi toggle issue resolved. The quick settings were missing but, I'm guessing that'll be corrected in the next build. Also, flashed B-Team Kernel. 4.3-s2w version resulted in bootloops but, the 4.3-v2 version worked just fine. No sound issues as far as I can tell.
Does the latest Everlov nightly work? Also what are you all referring to when you say Chilly's forum, the "Inc S dev fix", and AntiVenom SDW? I went through 5-10 of the most recent pages on Everlov and didn't see any of these things, so would someone mind providing links?

I am bit of a new with rooting/flashing ROMs so apologies is some questions sounds stupid
I had a bog stock note 2 int. model with 4.1.2, I rooted, CWM and flashed DN3 plus MJ5 boot loader + wifi fix and it is working fine, however I seem to be missing a lot of the stock widgets, the full page ones with Gallery/Data Usage/Alarm Clock etc.. and also when I put widgets on a screen they seem to dissapear again, have a few issues with touchwizz stopping and also settings not responding, another one is multiwindow, for some reason Xposed installer will not do the update/install in framework, it stops there and then I get an error that setting have stopped -
anyone have an idea what I have missed doing ???
Okay... about that flashing of DN3... you went FULL wipe, right? System, Data and everyghint (besides boot and SDcard)? Second, if you flash mj5 you DON'T need the WiFi fix from Dr. Ketan's thread. mj5 works just fine. Also pay attention to the OP > Downloads section, there are some fixes and additional zips to be flashed (Gallery + SNS, widged fix).
My advice? Wipe ALL and flash ROM again. Then flash the SNS + Gallery and widgets fixes. It should be working like a charm.

I'm on t889, I used the n7105 option in Aroma. I've no problem getting signals, I can call and receive the calls, and also using internet but I can't hear anything neither the person on the other end can hear me. plz tell me that there's a fix for this
Ok so a little background. I bought a new HTC One X back in August 2012. Before I did anything, I did the usual and installed a ViperX ROM (cannot remember which). It had been 18 months with that ROM so a few weeks ago I decided to look into a newer one. I went for ViperX 4.0.7 as I wanted to stay Team Venom. My firmware was still 0.93 so had to lock, update, unlock ect.
Currently it is 1.36, with the latest TWRP recovery (as suggested) and I flashed ViperX 4.0.7.
Everything worked fine and it installed as it should. But there are a few problems which I need to ask about:
1. Very short battery life while hardly using phone. Battery died overnight at one point from 60%. It seems to have settled but only slightly. Should I wipe battery stats?
2. I have uninstalled a few things I did not want using titanium Backup. Every time I restart the phone, the apps reappear in the app draw as in the photo attached. I can 'hold' on the apps and drag them to uninstall, it removes the icon and its fine after that. Just very annoying after every restart! Is there a way to get it so they never reappear after restart?
Im not sure if they are just bugs (if so, should I report them to Team Venom?) or if there is something I can actually do about them.
Any feedback is much appreciated.
Not able to install 4.0.7
I am not able to flash ViperX 4.0.7 on my HOX.
It always reboots my phone when installation reaches 13%.
Did someone else faced the same problem.
I am using the same boot.img as in the zip file provided.
I am able to flash and use 4.0.1 ver of ViperX.
Any help appreciated!

I have also followed installation process to a letter...
Any other way???
1: Try a custom kernel. I do not have that much of a drain. Did you do a proper manual full wipe before installing the rom.
2: clear the cache/data from HTC sense and they will disappear.
Do I need to be s-off for a custom kernel? I am still s-on. Yes I did a full wipe, then an advanced wipe as I wanted to start with a fresh phone.
I cant seem to find how to clear sense cache, got a quick description?
I have been searching the forums, but as you can see I don't spend much time on here and am struggling to find the answers.
Scratch that! Read a bit more into it. So can you advise the best kernel with 4.0.7?
And as for the wipe, do you mean just the cache wipe in recovery?
A full wipe in the recovery (based on philz touch 5.15) :
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage - format cach, data and system
Then install the rom and choose in aroma cache wipe only and a full rom install (apps) and i assume you flashed the boot.img from the rom.zip ?
Best kernel does not exist unfortunately. You have to try some, i am on the latest lyapota and the phone lasts all day with medium use (6:00-23:00)
Wiping sense data :
Settings - apps - all apps - navigate to the app called "sense" or "HTC sense" can't recall it at the minute.....select it and clear the cache/data
and no, you don't need to be S-OFF to flash custom kernel...

Yes, I did exactly that.
Got the App draw problem sorted, thanks!
As for flashing just a kernel, is it a case of just downloading and flashing? No need to install the ROM again is there? Do I flash the kernel in recovery or ADB?

flash the kernel zip via recovery and the boot.img you find inside the zip via fastboot, just like you did for the rom's boot.img
Ok last question - I think!
Should I stick to a kernel alike my ROM? e.g I have a sense ROM, should I pick a sense kernel (or one from the Original Android Development thread)?
Or can they be mixed?
No they can't be mixed. Sense roms needs sense kernels.
If I was to flash a kernel, will it put more settings or another app full of settings on my phone? Or is it all behind the scenes pre built into the kernel? I don't exactly want to start messing around with overclocking, undervolting ect?
My home button doesn't always work as it should. Its intermittent when it wants to switch to home screen. Sometimes it doesn't even vibrate to register I've pressed it. I've looked through venom tweaks, nothing I can see would effect it. Any ideas?
I'm having problems with venom hub. When I first clicked the app and registered, it never sent an email to confirm. Now, every time I go on the app, the log in screen comes up and wont let me log in (because I haven't confirmed registration) or go back to try another email address. How do I get it to send another confirmation email OR reset the app to allow me to try another email?
afaik only lyapota's kernel installs an app to let you mount the sdcard as a diskdrive. The options of the kernel are build in, but you can use some kernel settings via venom tweaks like :
Turning on/off s2w
Turning on/off dt2w
Frequencies
Fastcharge
Schedulers
Or you can change scripts which are explained in his thread.
The venom hub should work. Submit 4 or 5 times, some say that worked. If you have continuing problems logging in you can send Ivicask (team venom dev) a PM with your info so he can check/activate the account.

Advantages :
Using it's mods like sweep to wake and double tap to wake, some are more battery friendly, more options to control the frequencies.
Going back to stock kernel :
Flash the boot.img from the rom and then install the rom with a cache wipe only.
Ok…. So maybe in htc one x which iz best…
