So I cannot flash a new radio or something to bypass it? Is there no way to hack into the phone and unlock it? Feels weird they managed to lock it at such a low level.

No, everything has been tried and s-off will not come anytime soon.

Bricked Desire, out of ideas

Good afternoon:
Recently my sister in law gave me his Desire so I could take a look at it.
She says the phone started to freeze a lot and random reboots. Then the phone won't switch on at all, when it did it showed a white screen (I suspect she talks about the bootloader one). Next the phone never booted again, showing the htc screen with four exclamation triangles in the corners.
She is not an experienced user at all, the phone is a Vodafone one, unlocked.
It had the latest Vodafone stock rom installed. The phone doesn't have root, S-OFF or a gold card.
I tried to flash it with the latest Vodafone UK ruu and the gingerbread one from Shipped Roms and it fails with an error 152.
If I flash those roms with fastboot I get a FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail).
Both methods give me a RADIO_V2 - Fail-PU.
We can't send the phone to HTC because the company doesn't even exist in Argentina. Also the phone its from Spain, so we have no warranty at all.
Is there any hope?. I've tried searching the web but I had no luck.
Thanks in advance.
Whipon.
It's a radio brick. Contact HTC for warranty repair is the usual response....

Thanks man. If it supports latest boot loader, perhaps we have another chance.
@stumpyz9: Don't worry, phone is not under warranty, and we don't have any HTC service in Argentina ^^.

We have nothing to loose. Afterall the phone cost her nothing.
I enjoy doing this type of job, so it will be fun.
Well you can't s-off because it doesn't boot. The only fix would be HTC.
You could try flashing a RUU from fastboot....

Flashing from fastboot gives me a remote error: FAILED (remote: 51 partition update fail).
As I said we have no HTC repair service in Argentina.
All I can do is triying to fix it through the computer or throw it away u_u.
Can't I erase the radio and reflash it?. Do I need S-OFF to do that?.
can u flash a recovery
yah s-off would be required, but thats kind of impossible, and if your gunna throw it away you could always send it to me lol, i love to take **** apart

I know you have no HTC. But that is only option.
Throw it in the bin or sell for spares maybe then. You can't fix broken device without s-off, you can't s-off without working device.
Even if s-off, fix is very unlikely. HTC swap out the mother board when this happens, so nothing you can do

lol
You will laugh a lot when you know how I fixed it.
I had another Desire with its digitizer cracked. It was from a friend who dropped it.
I just swapped the motherboards.
The dissasembly and assembly videos in Youtube were very usefull .
It was a lot of fun.
Thank you very much for all your help .
A good question
Wait a minute, how she can prevent this from happening again?.
She just was using his phone as a normal user. The phone was plain stock.
Excellent.
Well you can't prevent it if she didn't.do anything to cause it. It was probably destined to go faulty from the start

Well, thanks guys.
Should I S-OFF the "new" phone?. New motherboard is from an almost new phone.
Just in case this issue appears again in the future.

Rooting a locked phone - IT'S COMING!!

Seems the legend that is Paul O'Brien has successfully rooted a locked phone...if you wish to try then please go to the MoDaCo site to get the link
http://www.modaco.com/topic/353986-...t-unlocking-the-bootloader-windows-mac-linux/
Paul hasn't tested it fully so this is an early exploit so make sure the RUU for your phone is available as, if things go wrong, you could be screwed!
you can test already but be aware that its early alpha and it could harm your phone
He has a s-off device so it might not work but hopeful for guys who haven't unlocked.

Yeah, was creating the thread when I saw he'd posted the r3 file online so will update the OP
Paul says that the worst Case Scenario would be that u must use a RUU, nothing about Brick!
i heard that some say that there is a tempered message in the hboot. so maybe there is still a sign for htc that you have modified something
He did it for the HTC Desire so I don't doubt him!

Must like when people use super wipe without the Rom on the sd
I'm already unlocked so I'm more interested in s-off.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
So if this works what can I do? Just use root apps or can I install custom roms as well or do I need an unlocked bootloader for that
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
At the moment, just root apps...there's a chance it might lead to ROMs, though (fingers crossed)

True but not everyone has access to RUU's, a lot of suppliers havent put out ones for the 1.28 base so all those who have done an OTA update can no longer use the 1.26 RUU because of the updated HBOOT.

[Q] questions about unrooting Optus one x

Hi all
I am trying to unroot my optus one x but I had a few questions.
The first question is there a different recovery for the optus one x? the second is there anywhere I can get the 1.29.980.11 image file to download? and if I do relock my boot loader can they tell if I unlocked my bootloader?
If anyone can help this would be great

Hi;
No, the recovery for all Endeavor phones (Normal One X) are the same, no matter what operator/service provider you use...
Latest RUU for your device is 1.28.980.10 after that Optus didn't release any updates... So you have to go with that version or use a custom ROM...
The link to download the above version is this (Credits to Footbal for the link)
Code:
http://www.filefactory.com/file/4nec4tdhfgft/n/RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_Optus_AU_1.28.980.10_Radio_1.1204.103.14_release_258004_signed.exe
Yes, They can see that your phone was unlock before, because after re-locking your phone it will say "RE-LOCK" in HBOOT not LOCK...
Will they still cover the warranty on it if they saw that it said relocked? and thank you very much for responding quickly

Legally no, unlocking voids warranty, and they warn you about it when you are trying to unlock... But sometime they honor the warranty in case of hardware problems...
what if I crack my screen could I get a replacement for a fee still?

Yes, they will still support your phone, repairing the problems for a fee (they wouldn't change it free of charge anyway, cause you cracked your screen, it's not on warranty)

srashedian said:
First of, you cracking your screen is your fault and it would not be under warranty (they will repair it for you, but they will charge you)
Second, as I said, technically you have no warranty whatsoever, but they MAY still change your phone because of physical problems just as a favor...

No need to think, they definitely have a thread about this, its not hard to find.
Its possible only if you know an HTC employee who does it(probably lose their job if caught), or simply until developers find a way to do it.
There are S-off One X's out there. But very very very few of them are existing. I'd say just over 100 handsets. My One X is S-OFF. I got it as a prize from HTC!

lucky you
It can be accomplished. But you can't fix S-OFF with a few bucks.
You need alot of things. Mine has been unlocked by one the developers that is trying to accomplish this by a software solutions.
Now you need is a encrypted javacard and more stuff... In other words, try to rob the HTC repair center in your country and you have the stuff to S-OFF.
thought footballer and xmoo both got s-off at the same time as x-moo got hold of one of the javacards or what ever they are

Xmoo did the S-OFF method on mine phone. But like I said, it is not done for everyone to S-OFF with Javacard. If we could copy the card... then everyone already has his HOX S-OFF.
Think about it
All I know for now, they are working behind the scene to get a software solution to S-OFF like the HTC Desire...

at first, you will need the following things:
- Stock RUU
- Stock Recovery Image
- relocked HBoot
Foolproof way is relock bootloader and flash ruu that matches your CID. Haven't read back too far in this thread, feeling lazy, make sure your HBoot version is below 1.36 as I'm assuming you'll be flashing ICS. I don't believe there are any JB ruu's available to date.
