hi all,
i have a samsung galaxy note 2
i rooted it
since i tried to merge system app updates into rom via titanium backup
all apps were renamed to wierd names but rebooting fixed everything.
then i made a nand and installed miui but restored nand.
since then i don't have any data (like gallery/ music / snotes etc.) i tried to restore a sd card backup i made but it doesn't affect anything
i can't take pics, can't play saved music.
if i try to transfer anything to phone from windows it shows applications has stopped responding - continue /slip
can't do anything which uses sdcard. i tried fix permissions in cwm but it just hangs so i did a hard reset.
P.S. i can make s notes
please help
FIXED
i fixed it by re-formatting /sdcard from cwm.

Hi
Today I received a new HTC Desire after my first one went back to T-Mobile.
Stuck in my old SD card and it recognised that there was a backup file on it and proceeded to load it.
However, my new Desire didn't show any signs of being restored from a back up i.e. bookmarks weren't present, messages etc.
I then added a couple bookmarks and factory reset my phone. Again, got the option to restore from backup but same issue occured i.e. no bookmarks that I had added and the standard bookmarks were present despite the fact that I had deleted them!
Phone is set to automatically backup so this is not the issue (plus there was a backup file present on the SD card).
Anyone else found this and know a solution?!
Thanks
Android Backup
I had to do a Factory Reset today (made a mess of everything! ) and discovered the same problem. Obviously the stock backup solution does not restore very many of our settings. That would explain why there are Apps in the Market for backing up....
Hey,ho. You live and you learn!
How does one do a full backup of their phone? I see no option in twrp for backing up the internal sd card, and i see support for that was removed from cwm back in version 4 ( unless I'm reading this wrong )...
I know I can just copy it off to my pc or what ever, but that's not really a clean solution for doing backup / restores across multiple roms as it will just involve another process and make it so i have got to be at home to swap..
Any solutions?
Depends if your phone is rooted or not, I believe a rooted phone can do more of a "full" backup but what I usually do is backup all my photos and songs with USB to the computer. For SMS apps and app data and system settings and data I personally like two apps - My backup pro and Titanium Backup PRO which requires root. Just visit the apps in the play store to compare. I recommend doing pictures and music manually cause I've had several issues with the backup apps doing my photos as when I restore them they are corrupt
This is driving me crazy, everything was working crazy, then suddenly all hell broke, and nothing seemed to work, but in the end this is the only program left that I wasn't able to get working normally
Device details :
Model : GT-7100
RM : Stock / rooted / perseus kernel
Philz_Touch_recovery 5.0.6
I was using a USB connector to get some files from a friend (not the first time), but for some reason whenever I tried to copy the files they would hang (folder with 1 nfo & 1 avi file, around 64mb in size), I tried the regular file browser and ES file explorer, but neither worked, and this is where I think I made the mistake
I pulled the usb connector without doing a safe removal, then just went home, a couple of hours later I decided to check for updates on google play, and all hell broke loose (it didn't work and kept FC'ing) , eventually I solved this problem (remove updates, clear cach/data, remove and re-enter account)
Then I launched the S-note, and it kept on crashing, so I tried the following :
1 - FC, clear cache/data (did this for Idea sketch/Mini S-note/ 2 S-note packages) rebooted - result : FAIL
2 - Restore from Titanium bakup (tried to restore app only/data only/app+data) rebooting after each method - result : FAIL
3 - FC, clear cache/data (did this for Idea sketch/Mini S-note/ 2 S-note packages), remove all files from the S-note/S-note export folders on the internal SD card, rebooted - result : s-note now opens, shows an empty list (no saved notes) hangs for 3-4 secs, then crashes
I can only think that by removing the usb connector without doing a save removal caused some system file errors (like on a usb drive), and if this is the case, is there a way to fix them without doing a factory reset ? (can this thread help : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396366) I don't want to redo all the work on my beloved note 2 again
sorry for the long OP, but I've tried to include as much info as possible, to clear things for anyone who is kind enough to help
Edit : any idea if this can help ? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271978
it says flashable, I've tried flashing the zip file from Philz touch menu but it gave an error
Edit 02: I've done a wipe data/factory reset through Philz touch, a cwm restore caused the problem to return, so I wiped/reset again and restored apps through titanium backup and things are now working again, I'm not sure which system app was causing the problem (though I suspect it was the S-note sync service, but I'm not willing to risk restoring it)
if a Mod can lock this thread/mark it solved, it would be great, not sure if it would be useful to anyone else though
I didn't have your problem of FC's but I cannot manage to restore S-note setting and Notes with Titanium backup. In addition, I cannot get Pop-up note to work after I remove the S-pen. When I try to restore Snote and Mini S note with Titanium, it just says "Restoring" but never finishes. Was it smooth restore for you?
I am trying to restore after a full wipe coming from DMC3 to DME1
Thx
Hi, recently I root my phone (GT-S6810P) for first time with Motochopper method and now it restarts many times, after install titanium backup and when i tried to make a backup of all system data, the phone restarts before it finalize.
I'm having problems with the original rom becouse my phone is running very slow, and i would like to install another rom, but I new on this root world so I don't know how to restore my important data and my apps after installing the new rom.
Thank you
If nothing helps, backup your Music, Contacts etc. with Samsung Kies Software. Save your apps as .apk files (for example with Titanium or Appmonster 3). "In-App-Data" like game scores can be saved with Helium application. For pictures and other data connect your phone to PC and copy it. Settings and Passwords are saved with your Google account, I think. Hope this helps...
Hi together,
just as a disclaimer, I don't really have knowledge in this field (custom roms etc), but I'm willing to learn and understand what is going on.
I have the Moto G5 as my daily phone with the unofficial lineage 17 from the xda-forum. It's not rooted. Now i saw that the g5 got official support for LOS18, so I wanted to upgrade. However, I had some important files on my phone, so I wanted to do a backup (with twrp), which i did on a different sd-card than the one I was using as storage. Or so i thought. The upgrade itself wasn't really a problem, at first i forgot to wipe the phone, but i realized right after the installation, wiped it accordingly to the instructions and did the installation again. The phone booted without a problem and everything seemed fine. I encrypted the phone accidently, i thought it was the lockscreen pin. But it wouldnt recognize the sd i used as storage on the previous version. Because i had pictures, music etc on the card, i wanted to restore my backup to use the phone as before. Well... to my surprise, on the sd i used to back up i couldn't find it, but strangely there were now two versions of a backup i made some months ago, only different in the timestamp (not the date) in their filename. I didn' know if one of them was the one i made, or if i had made two backups back in the days. I was confused, but i chose on of them at random and restored it. It seemed to have worked, it booted to the familiar lockscreen i set up a while ago. But then: it wouldnt accept the pin, even though i knew it was the right one - at least for the system i have used the same morning. I had to delete the lockpin.db (or how it was called) via twrp to acces the phone again. The former uncompatible storage sd now got recognized and worked, the phone showed all the apps i had before, i was still logged in in all of them etc. But: i made a photo, wanted to look at it in my gallery app, and i briefly saw my albums - then they vanished and only the photo i had taken was there. So now all the pictures, music are gone from the sd. Some funky things are different, the swipe directions for the "recent apps" and "back" buttons on the fingerprint sensor are switched and i cannot find the menu to change them. That's the story.
Here are my questions:
The backup i made - why wasn't it called with the proper date and time? Or have i deleted it somehow due to my wiping mistake? but it was on the sd... ?
I now assume i restored the old backup with a different lockscreen pin, and thats why the pin i thought was correct didn't work. But some apps which i hadn't installed at the time i made the backup where there and with all the recent data. Doesn't that mean the sd has some kind of image of the system or rather the apps themselves stored? but why are the pictures and the music gone? Is there any chancce to get it back? Can I upgrade to LOS18 and use the same sd as storage without the need to format it?
I'd like to learn what the mechanisms behind all these happenings are and would be glad if someone could explain it! Thanks in advance!
Twrp backups do no backup personal files - This includes music pictures and documents. These must be backuped up yourself to a pc, external device or the cloud.
TWRP backups do backup the following for example
System - your current rom
Data - apps and their data of your current rom, phone settings
Boot - Kernel
Never restore data on a different rom. The data contains apps and settings for your current rom and restoring this on a different rom will likely lead to a bootloop or an unstable device. This is why you had issues with passwords.
In regards to personal files - if you have formatted data of an encrypted device then it removes encryption and thus formats internal storage. Anything on this will be lost.
If you are changing roms you need to format data and then install everything again via the playstore (or manually via apk)
You can use 3rd party apps that backup apps and data but I advise against this as what it restore may be unstable on a different OS
As with the twrp date I assume twrp assigns the correct date. The file would be lost if you backup up to internal storage and your formatted data. I don't know what happened to it if you backed up to an external device.
