Hello, I'm new to the forum
I own a Htc One X [International version] and I'd like to install a Cyanogenmod on it
I'm new in this stuff, have never installed any ROM on any device, so I have a few questions
1. Whats the difference between Cyanogenmod 10 and 10.1? [I heard 10 has a battery life issue... is that fixed?]
2. Is there even a 10.1 version for One X?
3. Is there a safe way to Root the device? and if there isn't, is there a way to fix the phone in case of a screw up? I've never done this before and I'm quiet scared I'll screw up and turn my phone into a 500$ Brick ><
As I mentioned I'm generally new at this, so any tips or guides on the matter would help me
Thanks in advance

1. CM10 is based on android 4.1.2 whereas 10.1 is based on 4.2.1
I'm a die hard CM user and never had any problems with battery life.
2. Under development
3. I recommend the all in one tool kit, which is stickied at android development board of one x.
Don't worry, it is almost impossible to brick a device in an unrecovable state.
Just do not flash roms meant for other devices e.g. at&t one x (evita)

Thanks for the fast reply
I downloaded the all in one toolkit, and, well, I can't understand any of it ... xD
How do I root my device with this?
Note: back up sdcard just in case before beginning.
Just go through the steps in order starting with installing drivers.
(upper left hand corner)
Go through the htcdev unlocking process.
Once bootloader is unlocked, flash CWM (upper right hand corner)
No need to root separately because nearly all custom roms are rooted out of the box including cm10.
I do not have access to the toolkit at the moment so I can't give accurate instructions but I'll check back later tonight.
If you run into problems feel free to ask in this thread.

I thought that in order to install a custom rom you have to have your phone rooted ... isn't that so?
And if it isn't, then is it enough to unlock booatloader flash CWM and then install CM10? [Which I have no idea how to do also xD]
Thanks again for your reply, sorry for asking that many questions, Its just that I'm new at this and fear for my device :3

That's correct, I'll throw in some noob-proof instructions once you get cwm installed
Forgot to mention: charge your battery at least 70% so you don't get screwed in middle of flashing.
Ps. There is a thanks button right under my posts so if it's not too much effort...

Ok I got my CWM installed [Not TWRP as opposed to the toolkit's video, right?]
Now how do I install a custom rom?

0. Do a backup in CWM. Then copy it to pc just to be extra safe. (sdcard/clockworkmod/backups)
1. Download rom and gapps. If CM, grab the latest here. Google apps here.
2. Download the attached fastboot files and extract them where ever you want.
3. Open the downloaded [instertromnamehere].zip and copy boot.img from it to fastboot folder.
4. Copy [instertromnamehere].zip to sdcard.
5. Put phone to fastboot mode by holding power and volumedown. Then connect via usb cable to pc. On the phone screen you should see fastboot usb¨
6. Open fastboot prompt by holding shift and right clicking anywhere in the fastboot folder. Then select open command prompt here.
7.type
Code:
fastboot devices
You should see your serial number listed.
Type
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
followed by
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Congrats! You have succesfully installed CM boot.img, now to rom flashing -->
8. Disconnect phone and in the bootloader menu select recovery
9. In recovery tap install zip from sdcard --> choose zip from sdcard --> choose [instertromnamehere].zip. Next flash the gapps-jb-xxx.zip the same way.
10. In recovery wipe cache, dalvik cache and battery stats. ---> reboot.
You should see the CyanogenMod spinner and eventually boot.

0. In recovery tap backup and restore, then backup. The folder should pop up. And DO NOT skip this it is important.
5. You apparently held the buttons for too short time...
Hold until you get to a whitish screen with android figures in the bottom. Do not let go if phone vibrates. Do not let go if you see htc quietly brilliant screen. :good:
Pro Tip:
You can also use these fantastic adb commands once phone is booted up and usb debugging is enabled in developer settings.
Code:
adb reboot bootloader
to get to fastboot
Code:
adb reboot recovery
to get to recovery

Now I'd recommend you to back up the new rom too in recovery.
Installing a ROM in general:
Install ROM.zip in recovery. (And gapps if needed)
Wipe cache, dalvik and battery stats.
Flash boot.img using fastboot commands. Note: every rom has its own boot.img
Done
Any more questions?
Enjoy your CyanogenModded phone, mate! :victory:

I messed up real bad.
I tried installing the CM10 mod on my HTC One X using TWRP instead of CWM because CWM would never flash onto my phone.
I did not make a backup (Like a noob). Then when I installed the CM10 ROM, it wouldn't let me finish the last part (flashing).
And when I tried to fix it using ideas on the forum it wiped everything on my phone.
All I have left is Bootloader/Fastboot and Recovery.
When I boot into TWRP and try to boot phone it says I can't boot because I have no Rom (Obviously I have nothing on my phone).
I tried everything I could find on the first 10 pages of google.
Does anyone know what to do?

Steps for installing a ROM
Hey..
You can try following the below steps. First charge the phone upto at least 50% battery (to be safe). Then :
1. Download this pack>> Fastboot Pack http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1616741
2. Extract the boot.img from the Custom Rom you are trying to install in a folder on your computer.
I recommend ARHD ROM >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1562603
3. Extract Fastboot Pack into a folder on your computer and replace the boot.img by the boot.img extracted from the Custom Rom in Step.2
4. Turn your phone OFF
5. Turn your phone ON in bootloader mode by holding the power and vol down buttons at the same time, your phone will start in HBOOT mode. It will be displayed somewhere in the middle of the text.
6. Use the volume keys to move up and down the list, and select Fastboot, then press the power key. Now your phone will come in FASTBOOT mode.
7. Connect your phone to the computer via USB cable. Your phone will now display USB FASTOOT instead of just FASTBOOT.
8. Run 05-erase-cache.bat
9. Run 06-flash-custom-boot.bat
10. Run 08-install-clockwork-recovery.bat
11. Disconnect the USB cable. Your phone will now again say FASTBOOT.
12. Use the up or down volume key to select HBOOT and press the power button. This will take you back to HBOOT mode.
13. Use the volume keys to scroll to RECOVERY and press the power button.
14. This will take you to Recovery mode, now you can flash the Custom Rom you want using Recovery mode by using the " Install from SD card " option there.
**I do not take any credit for the tool or ROM mentioned above.

The forums for your device are over here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
I suggest you make a post over there, they'll be able to help better than we can. Just know that roms and RUU's for the Tegra (international) One X will not work for your device.

You're gonna end up with a brick.
I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm trying to flash "codename android jellybean" to my primoc one v.
I have it unlocked and rooted, thanks to xda. Where I get stuck is trying to flash the above ROM to the phone. I have put the ROM, gapps, and jellyboot5 into my SD card, then flashed those zips from clockworkmod recovery. I have put the boot.img I copied from the jellyboot5 folder into my fastboot folder on my PC.
My problem is that when I try to restart the phone from clockworkmod recovery into bootloader, the phone does the nexus animation, then goes straight back into clockworkmod recovery. I can't get to the white screen that gives me the option of choosing fastboot so that I can, in command prompt on my pc, flash the boot img.
I know I must be doing something wrong somewhere.
Hold and keep the power button for 10 second till the screen turns of and as soon as it turns off hold and keep the volume button.... to use see the fast boot...... other way is press and keep the power button and the volume down button for 10 to15 second

I was having the same problem I just re started and full wiped and then flashed everything then I used the tool kit to flash the boot.IMG I used to use my cmd prompt but I realized it wasnt even the right boot.IMG flashing as soon as I did the tool kit it worked. Good luck, trust me it did the same thing

I'm trying that but it just sends me right back to clockworkmod recovery. Can I confirm that I did the flashing steps correctly?
0) Wiped
1) flashed ROM
2) flashed GAPPS
3) flashed jellyboot
4) tried to restart into bootloader (but phone goes right back to clockworkmod recovery)
Did I make a mistake somewhere?
If you have ADB set up on your PC, From recovery plug in your phone bring up ADB. Type adb reboot bootloader
Don't try the button thing people have bricked there phone doing the button thing for too long.

Hey Im confused at what stage your at..
if i understand it you've flashed CM10, but *didn't* flash the CM10 compatible kernel... The Stock Kernel isnt compatible with CM.
If this happens one of two things will occur
1. The phone will hang on boot (aka softbrick)
2. the phone will go directly into CWM
I hit the same problem when I first flashed roms on the one v.
You basically need to reboot into the boot loader (flashboot) and flash the new (CM9) compatible kernel from there.
Alterntively if you get totally stuck use the "stockRRU" and recover your phone using that, (see thread on this)

That does sound like what my phone is doing. Initially it went straight into CWM, then it got further but would just hang on the colored "X" nexus animation.
At this point I tried to restore my stock nandroid, but even that wouldn't work, with the phone never getting off the "HTC quietly brilliant beats audio" screen.
As for flashing the correct kernel, was jellyboot5 not the kernel for this CM10 rom? And when I try to restore my stock (ICS) nandroid, does it matter that I've tried to flash a JB kernel, or is the stock kernel also restored?
Thanks for any help.

All right, tried that, phone is still endless stuck in the nexus colored X animation. Will wait another few minutes and then freaking go back to stock using RUU.
Edit: Holy s***, dude, you saved me. I was about to chuck the phone against a wall, until I read that you just did the entire process again, from wiping to flashing the rom, to flashing the boot image using the all-in-one tool. That did the trick. For about ten minutes I was seriously contemplating getting an iPhone. That's how dire this was. Thanks man!!!!!
dude,
ok I'll caveat this by saying I live in the uk so I have a GSM (primoU) not CDMA so I take no responsibility if this goes wrong.,...,
I'm guessing your using the rom in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927794
Reading the thread, here's what I think you should do the following
(Im assuming you've already flashed clockwork mod recovery)
Assumptions
1. You have already unlocked the phone using the HTC unlock procedure
2. You have already installed Clockworkmod recovery
Download the following :
- One All in one toolkit from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676686
- ROM from http://www.mediafire.com/?ldhwd8vki17mbfe
- Kernel from http://goo.im/devs/simonsimons34/primoc/kernels/JellyBoot5.zip
- CM10 compatible GoogleApps (GAPS) http://cyano-rob.tuennerhoff-edv.de/GAPPS/gapps-jb-20120726-signed.zip
steps
1. Copy the ROM onto the microSD, in a folder called say "rom", do not unzip it
2. Switch phone off by pressing the power down button for 10 seconds or so
3. Disconnect USB from the PC
4. Enter fastboot by first pressing and holding "volume - " and then pressing power button once and keep pressing "Volume - "
>>>>>> DO NOT PRESS "VOLUME+" <<< Important
The phone should reboot into fastboot
5. connect USB to PC
6. select fastboot (using vol +/- and press power)
Fastboot should now say "fastboot USB"
8. Unzip/install the All-In-One toolkit somewhere.. We wont be using it here, but installing this gives you fastboot/adb etc
9. Unzip the kernel from the kernel file, you should have a boot.img and put it in the kernels directory
9. cd <DirectoryOfAllInOneToolKit>/Data directory
10. Issue "fastboot flash boot Kernels/boot.img"
This should say something like sending boot.img, and then flashing boot.img..
11. Reboot phone with fastboot reboot-bootloader
This will bring you back to the fastboot screen, select recovery and that should bring you to Clockwork mod
12. select "install zip from zipfile", then choose-zip from SD Card, select your rom (zipfile) and say flash.
(hint : vol +/- go up down, and power selects)
13. When this is done, then install GAPS in the same way..
14. Finally you need to make sure all the caches and data is wiped. to do this enter the wipe menu and issue "factory reset/wipe data" and wipe dalvik cache
15. Finally select reboot and smile
That should be it! I O
Oh before i forget, the AllInOne package is cool, but as your in a semi brick situation and that all in one requires adb support Im not sure what it will do hence detailing the steps manually above.. For newbies this tutorial is still valid, but you need to unlock your phone first and install CWM . If you are coming from stock I would recommend using the all in one tool (above) GUI as it saves typing!
Hope this helps

14. Finally select reboot
That should be it! I O
Oh before i forget, the AllInOne package is cool, but as your in a semi brick situation and that all in one requires adb support Im not sure what it will do hence detailing the steps manually above..
Hope this helps

I guess so, however you would need to check each different rom to be sure..
Also cybervibin is right, before rebooting the phone it is recommended to
- go into clockworkmod recovery, wipe menu and wipe data/factory reset
- also wipe dalvik cache

Oh I think I know whats wrong...I tried to use CM and this is a CDMA phone...I'll need a CDMA rom for this phone then?
yes from d CDMA android dev section.

Well...same problem, this time I followed the instructions step by step!
1. Download ROM and gapps and put them in SD card's root.
2. Download jmz primoc kernel and place it in fastboot or platform-tools folder and rename it to boot.img.
3. Boot phone into bootloader. Select fastboot. Connect it to PC. It should say fastboot usb.
4. Flash boot.img(the kernel) using command 'fastboot flash boot boot.img'.
5. Enter recovery from bootloader and first do a full wipe factory reset, erase cache, erase dalvik cache.
6. Then flash rom. Boot into ROM and then again boot into recovery and flash gapps.
Sent from my One V
Well, I actually just got done trying to use a CDMA converter...didn't work. Im in the process of using your method. But will it boot without Gapps installed?
Just tried your method, and it gets stuck on a boot loop, I am able to get into bootloader and recovery fine, but when I try to boot, it loops.

So here is my problem,i have updated my hboot from 1.12 to 1.39 via this program JBFWTOOL21Z and i did everything as in the video tutorial on youtube. Afterwards i unlocked my bootloader , and i tried to reboot the phone and it got stuck on the htc startup screen. I feel as if it is important to mention that i had viper x rom(2.0.6) and it reboots in that rom and its just gets stuck, so can some one help me either completley erase everything(root, custom roms and get it like it came out of the factory) or apply a new custom rom but when i go to recovery i get a red triangle. Please help me and try to explain everything step by step because im a noob, and sorry for my enligsh
edit: i did a factory reset on accident and it just lost all my sd data and i have no rom..... can some one help me the phone boots directly in clockworkmod recovery.. How can i fix it please help i'm desperate

p.s. where do i download a new jb rom from ? (and can it be cyanogenmod10.1?)
Flash a new recovery (cwm 5.8.4.0) put the file in the fastboot folder. Phone in the bootloader.....
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Flash the boot.img
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Enter the recovery and make a full wipe then install the rom
Thanks
Thank you very much mate  just one more question though, why can't i accept calls on the new rom(slim bean 4.2.2 official) and i can't connect to browser and app store(im guessing this is because of the google apps package, that i didn't see that i should install)
The way to install it, install the rom.zip and then right away the gapps.zip without a reboot in between !

Copy the rom.zip on the sdcard of the phone. Open the rom.zip and copy out the boot.img into the fastboot folder on the pc
Phone in the bootloader and flash it
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
UNHOOK THE USB CABLE

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have a acer iconia a100 rooted and currently running the carbon rom (4.2.2) and twrp recovery (2.6.3.0). I would like to go back to stock rom (ICS). I have not changed any kernals or anything like that. Can I just restore my nandroid backup of my stock rom or is there something specific I have to do? Also, I just looked and I dont have a stock backup with twrp, only with cwm. When I unlocked bootloader, I installed cwm, then must have done a backup of stock rom, then flashed carbon rom, then switched to twrp and made another backup so I would have to go back to cwm to restore nandroid. How do I go back to cwm from twrp?? Thanks for the feedback.
I looked in my internal storage and it looks like I have 2 zips, fastbootrecovery.zip and xsposeddisabler-cwm.zip, do I flash one of these?? and if I do, can I do it with es explorer?? Thanks

Just the stock ROM or completely back to stock, 100%?
If you don't know what those zips are, or how to use them, then don't use them, period.
To get back cwm you can use fastboot to flash it back on or use one of the cwm installers in development, if any are still there, if you want to do it with fastboot you'll need some stuff to get ready, most of it should be there from when you rooted the first time, then a couple lines in a command prompt and you'll have it back. There's also stock rooted ICS ROMs available, so depending on what you want we can go from there.

I am going to sell my tablet so I would like to go to my backup of my stock rom. When I restore my stock backup, I can just do a full wipe, that will get me back to the starting point of just the basic rom, right?? That will wipe all my data from the backup rom, or will a full wipe erase the rom too?? I want to get back to the basic rom (just like if I install a new rom) have to set up accounts, wifi, etc).
Also, is there a tutorial or a step by step guide to reinstall cwm back on my tablet, since my stock rom was backed up with cwm? And where do I have the files to reflash cwm. Thanks for your assistance in helping me return my tablet to the state I want.

I found a site that has it step by step, installing cwm. Here it is.
Here it is guys, Stock CWM Recovery for the ACER A100.
Before anything make sure you have the latest ICS leak C/O Vache, Root, and Unlocked Bootloader.
Official ICS Leak c/o Vache:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1510706
Root Instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1531646
Unlock your bootloader for fastboot, follow here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1557445
once you have done all of the above, you should be ready to flash this recovery. Make sure you have ADB up and working properly. And place the recovery.img in your working folder (see below)
1- Open a command prompt in your working folder (usually in your platform tools, mine is C:\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools) make sure you are administrator.
2- Connect Tablet to pc and get excited.
3- Type: adb devices (verify your Tab is connected and listed)
4- Type: adb reboot bootloader
5- Once bootloader is in fastboot type: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
You will see writing recovery, flashing recovery, etc.
6- Once flashed Type: fastboot reboot
7- Profit
But it says make sure you have the latest ics leak?? Are they refferring to the rom?? If so, I currently have carbon rom istalled which is jellybean. This will not work then?? I am a little confused and any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

To just go back to stock to sell it you'll run into a couple issues coming from 4.2+, namely the storage path changes, you'll retain the /0 folders, however many were made. Otherwise following the guide that roman made will work to go back to 100% stock, I'll see if I can get a link, I'm in a waiting room with crappy data lol
Edit:
That guide will work for installing cwm, basically get your cwm image then get fastboot going, fastboot flash recovery cwmimageyougot.IMG
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33574648
Best way to return to 100% stock. No need to fuss with recoveries just install what he says then the ROM does the rest. While in twrp remember to go delete /0 directories or they'll remain there forever. Or until its deleted at a later date, but if you have stuff in there you should do it prior to going fully stock again.

that is something happening with cwm. i had this problem. it keeps creating a folder names 0 and keep moving old files into that whenever you install a new rom.
Hello guys. I need your feedback. I have a A100 that is rooted and is currently running carbon rom 4.2. I am going to be selling this in the next couple weeks because I just don't use it anymore now that I have a second pc.Do you think it would be more advantagious to sell this just the way it is (rooted and custom rom) or should I take it back to completely stock? Or if it is more advantagious to sell it with a custom rom, which rom would you guys suggest?? Thanks again for any and all suggestions.
Please Help!! I was trying to go to stock ics and these are the steps I used. The simple method to revert back to stock ICS from a custom ROM on an A100.
+++Locked bootloader, no custom recovery, no root. Full stock .014 rom. It will recieve OTA updates to latest Acer version.+++
Get Ready
1) Download this flashable Stock recovery zip, and place in your normal flashing location, - Thx 4 help pio
http://db.tt/VLmnMCzq
Also uploaded below
2) Download the Official .014 Stock ICS rom
The stock ICS zip from zeronull. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1611696
Here is a second link to it. http://ubuntuone.com/7DZtbNqZzOk7qsaQxNk99a - thx zleto
3) Rename the Stock ICS rom to "update.zip", no quotes (make sure you have "hide known file extensions" UNCHECKED, in the folder options). And place it on the root of your microSD card. This will allow you to see the file extension to verify that it is named properly.
Get it Done
1) Flash the Stock recovery zip with your custom recovery. Then wipe cache, davlik cache, and wipe data/factory reset.
2) Reboot to system.
3) Allow it to sit for 5 minutes or so.
4) Then Power off.
5) Update from the microSD card by holding down the power and volume rocker closest to the corner at the same time, until you see "erasing cache .".. ect, ect. The stock rom install should start by itself, dont touch anything, wait for it to reboot.
****** If it won't boot do a factory reset (with the hardware buttons, see below) and/or try to reflash the ics rom one more time. ******
Quote:
To perform a Factory Data Reset use the following steps:
1.Place the rotation lock switch in the up position (tablet held in portrait). Or to the left if held in landscape.
2.Press and hold the Volume down button, which is located farthest from the corner (it is volume up, if held in landscape).
3.With the Volume down button held, press and hold the Power button for 3 seconds then release it. Continue holding the Volume down button.
4.Once the tablet vibrates, switch the rotation lock on and off repeatedly while still holding the Volume down button.
5.Release the Volume down button and stop switching the rotation lock once the "Erasing Userdata..." message appears in the upper left corner of the screen
Now I get the android symbol with the red triangle, that stays for about a minute, then it reboots and stays on thye acer screen. When I did the steps and was going to reboot, I received a waring while in recovery sayiny that I dont have a op installed. I did it anyway, as posted and now I'm stuck, can anyone PLEASE help me.I tried doing a reset with steps 2 though 4 but while pressing the vol up and letting go of the power button, it does not vibrate.
I try to boot into recovery with vol up + power, it boots than says erasing cache, then booting into recovery, the the android synbol comes up with the red triangle.
I can't even get into recovery. It says bootloader (unlock mode) when I pwer it on. If I press power + vol up, it says erasing cache, then booting into recovery kernal, then the android symbol comes up with the red triangle. Thanks for responding and since this is the wrong thread, can we discuss this in the other thread?? While I was typing this, the android symbol with the triangle was on the screen for about 2 minutes, then it just rebooted and now its saying acer acer acer acer acer on the bottom of the screen.
Can anyone help me out with this please?
