Custom Recovery?
Any mods?
Unlocked bootloader?

You need
Stock rom (as it was out of the box)
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Bootloader can stay unlocked and root is also not a problem

Its running stock rom, stock recovery, but unlocked bootloader and rooted.
I followed the guide here.
Still getting error.

Did u change anything to the rom, remove bloatware or something similar
Being rooted and the unlocked bootloader is not the problem

Ah ha, I did disable some bloatware. Is this whats causing problem?

For what ? Did u read what we are doing here ? Hboot is not important (certainly not in this case)

None of the bloatware is disabled nor removed, and I can be sure the stock rom hasn't been tempered with. Recovery is checked to be stock. Yet still no luck with ota.
Might have to use ruu after all.

wont.. i tried using a goldcard and says: main version is older..
And running the RUU will result in nothing since my phone is branded qq lol
Why are you trying to remove it any way?
cause i need root and custom rom etc
Do you need to get s-on and stock hboot etc before running the RUU. I need to unroot so would running the 2.3 update be my quick and easy way to get it back to stock. I'm vodafone uk and don't have a goldcard lol

yes it would flash back to stock and debrand I think - but you won't be able to downgrade/root/flash custom roms at the moment.

Just flash a stock ROM.
Your question doesn't really makes sense. You can't return to stock, because you can only put it to relocked, it's obviously locked when it's stock.
If it's not locked its not stock.
But you can flash a signed ROM, boot.img and recovery.

[Q] Will I get official OTA update if I unlock the bootloader ?

Hi everyone .
I'm new to xda.
I have 1 question..
Will I get the official OTA updates from htc if I unlock the bootloader ?
Yes ! As long as you don't remove system apps (edit the stock rom) !
You can update with these criteria
Stock rom (with or without root)
Stock kernel
Stock recovery
Unlocked bootloader

Are you sure about that? I can't see how Play can be deleted without at least root. If it is deleted then a factory reset might fix it but be sure to backup important data such add pictures and music first.

Actually I have two phones ..one phone is one x n the other is one x+...this problem occurred in one x+...I by mistake uninstalled it from settings > apps ... The icon is still there in the app drawer ...n when I open the app it force closes automatically...I tried to install the apk which we usually get online...didn't work...n the second problem is I see ota updates in my phone but they don't download ..I click download it says "download progress going on. Check the status in the notification drawer"n when I slide down the drawer there is nothing downloading! ..

Yes rooting is fine, what you need to do before installing an OTA update is re-lock your bootloader. This is because the OTA update will try to install through CWM or whatever other recovery you have flashed.

Read the above ^^
A custom recovery will never install a HTC official update, not even when you relock the bootloader !

I suppose most people with root phone will have a custom recovery. So the first step would be flash back the "Stock recovery", then only can update.

By entering the bootloader and then to recovery, if you see a sign with triangle and a phone icon you have stock. If it enters directly you can see its custom.
Not by checking the software on the phone. If its a custom rom it can be anything !
