dear forum friends ,
I have two problems that I could not find a solution;
problem #1: LAN network problem
below, you can see two screen shots from es file explorer LAN interface.
first screenshot belongs to note 2, second screenshot belongs to my tablet; moto xoom 2.
both of them equipped with stock ics roms, unrooted;

192.168.2.1 is gateway at home, (note 2 obviously recognizes)
192.168.2.23 is a computer running xp 32, (note 2 DOES NOT recognize, no problem)
192.168.2.27 is a computer running xin 7 32 bit, (note 2 recognizes)
192.168.2.61 is a computer running win 7 64 bit, (note 2 recognizes)
192.168.2.100 is WD my book live NAS drive, which I need to connect via note2 while I'm at home.(note 2 DOES NOT recognize, PROBLEM!)
Please note that all computers, tablets and other android phones can reach, copy, paste files to NAS drive flawlessly.
even if I type ip address of NAS drive, I could not reach it, note 2 behaves like that drive does not exist in my network. I believe there is a LAN protocol missing in note 2.
problem #2: dial tone problem while dialing a phone number
when I want to dial a number while the key volume is on, instead of conventional DTMF dialing tones, I hear stupid popping baloon sound for each stroke.
I deeply browsed the settings, however I could not find a way to hear conventional DTMF tones while dialing a number.
any suggestions for solving those problems appreciated.
thank you in advance for your kind interest.

So when I plug my S3 with a USB cord and try to view my photos, I can't preview any of them, I have to manually click each one to see the picture. Is there a way so I can see all of them at once so I can choose which ones I want? I've tried MPT and PTP mode and neither shows me the preview. This is all I get. I've tried updating Kies & that just made it worse & not read my entire phone at all so I removed Kies. Also I can't even get the phone to show up on my Mac, when I plug it into my MBP nothing just pops up. So for now I"m using Airdroid to view all my photos so I'm able to choose which ones I want to drag to my comp but it would be nice to be able to do it from windows explorer since that's much faster. I'm on stock rooted rom 4.04 with all the bloatware removed using titanium backup

I don't know much about Mac's but I know with Windows 7 the only way to see thumbnails is to use Kies or remove your SDCard and mount it directly (assuming you are saving images to your card). Even though the MTP protocol supports thumbnails, Microsoft's implementation of it in Win7 doesn't (and based on your post, I'm guessing Mac doesn't either).
Let's hope that Windows 8 (and the next Mac OS) do a better job with MTP.
*sigh..... stupid Samsung -________- my Galaxy s2 didn't have this problem oh wellsssssss

The S2 doesn't use MTP mode.

I hope this bumps the thread :\
I gave up trying to use my mbp. As for windows best bet is just moving them all to your HDD.
What is Flash-Transfer?
It is an app which provides a file-sharing functionality to your smartphone using Wi-Fi tethering. It can be used to easily connect to another android smartphone and then transfer apps,
images or any other files you may want to. We all have to agree that it is indeed a clever way to transfer data faster, given the slow speed at which Bluetooth works. This doesn’t even use your data plan, just connects to the other device over Wi-Fi.

Why Flash-Transfer?
Though similar apps already exist in the market, what defines Flash Transfer is its unique style of sharing files, aptly termed as Swipe & Share. It allows swipe like gestures to share photos, that seems more like magic rather than a useful feature. As illustrated, the photos being swiped out simultaneously comes into view in the receiving device, which is really a fun thing to watch. There is also a shake and share feature.
Its simple enough to configure and use, that once you open the Flash Transfer app on your phone or use the Swipe & Share option from the Gallery or File Manager, you can invite someone to share with. This invite appears in the form of a QR code which need to be scanned by the receiving party on their device to get connected. Once done, both phones can simply share any number files or apps that you want without any data charges.

I don't know what the program is, but i tried running it and nothing happened. I tried compatibility modes, and it always closes itself right after running. Judging by the androidfiletransfer.dmg, i guess it's a similar program for PC. I got no clue what it is even after some fruitless escapades on DuckDuckGo and Google.
Anyone know what this program is so i can get these stupid files to my PC, or better yet, get the phone to act like every other android phone when plugged in?
I'd rather not have to upload the 20+ gigs worth of files to google drive.
Thanks!
Sorry, I don't have a solution, but I thought I'd at least let you know I have the same problem. This is the only android I've ever had that won't just share the internal storage via MTP quickly and easily with my Linux laptop. When plugged in it either does nothing or shares that folder you screenshotted when you poke enough settings. I've never got MTP to work right. Even adb is a hold your mouth just right kind of exercise with my TA-1045.
My workaround is to either adb pull (unreliable, see above) or upload anything I want to share to an SMB share on a desktop I use as a file server, then download it from that share to the laptop. Not all that different than what you're suggesting except I don't get a cloud service involved, so my speeds are probably way better.
For an android one device, this phone's software really, really sucks.
I have my Nokia for about a year and I never plugged it to my computer via USB
I use "FTP Server" app on my Android devices, and on PC I have "Total Commander", I transfer everything via Wi-Fi.
Back on my original firestick I could use it without having a network connection. I used this for presentations in remote locations. Much easier than carrying and setting up a PC.
That firestick got damaged in a fire and I replaced it with a firetv stick 4k model. Even if I hold the home button>apps and start up Kodi, it will kick me back to the firetv launcher with these home not available/network connection lost messages. Also performance seems to be really bad without a network connection as when showing some videos it would stutter without internet vs playing just fine when connecting to wifi that has internet.
My question is can I somehow bypass or disable that requirement to be connected to the network and also the internet, either through disabling some app or changing a setting through ADB?
I see now that the 4k can be unlocked/rooted/etc I would have no problem doing that if required to get back to being able to do my presentations with my firestick.
Thanks in advance!
I was hoping to use a 4K Firestick to play movies and TV shows off a USB stick (via an OTG cable) while travelling. Your question also applies to me as I won't have internet everywhere and shouldn't need it for local playback.
That would be awesome if I could use a USB memory stick as well. Would make it that much more versatile.
I can often tether to my cell phone, and that works. But sometimes I don't have cell phone service nor local wifi networks where I am.
If I could just get past these error messages.
