I had the same problem on cyanogen with gapps. Flashed above custom gapps and all worked well. Even paid with wallet.

Im using Xylon, and ill give those gapps a try. Can i just flash the gapps right in recovery? Or do i need to flash the rom again first?

Just the gapps. That is what l did and have had no problems. Wipe cache and dalvik first though. Just to be safe.

I've been having the same issue. I downloaded gapps from the above link, but still no love. I seem to get one of two outcomes depending on the wallet versions I install. I'll either get something like "Setting up Wallet. Can take up to 5 mintues" and then it says my device isn't fully initialized OR it'll get past that and then error when adding the card. Anyone found a fix yet? Tried on CM10, AOKP, JellyBeer etc - no luck.

Same issue here. I think its something to do with our hardware. Also if I use the wallet app in the play store everything works but when trying to add card, request failed. I also noticed that about section says Google secure element version not present. A quick search revealed that the "secure element" may have been soft bricked thus causing the request failed error. Further research also shows that it can be fixed by removing your device from wallet using a PC. Then remove app, reflash. I haven't reflashed yet as I have far too many customizations. Someone try this and let me know
I am in aokp and using above gapp package says unable to start wallet device not connected after 5 mins and using wallet from play store doesn't allow me to add cards.

I was getting the same error. I contacted google wallet support through email and after a lot of back and forth, they got it working. I don't know what they did but there is a fix. Here is the response I got from them;
Hello,
I apologize for the delayed response. There have been some new updates in regard to your issue. These steps should help in resolving the
issue. If you have already taken these steps, please do so again. Can you please reset the device? You can do this by navigating to app
Settings > Reset -OR-- by navigating to the Android system Settings >Apps > Wallet and select ‘Clear data'. Then, reset the app by logging
into wallet.google.com/manage, disable your device then set up your
account again.
If this does not solve the issue, please inform us so we can
troubleshoot further.
Now, I have run through these steps probably 30 times, with no success. I flashed back to stock and still nothing. That tells me that they have finally figured it out. Funny thing is I RMA'd my phone and the day that I got notice that my new device has shipped, they got it working. Anyway, thought I'd post for others who have probably been pulling their hair out trying to get a fix for the app. Help is on the way (probably)

I have consulted Google support about the card adding issues this is the official response.
Hello,
Thanks for your email.*I understand that you are having issues adding cards to Google Wallet mobile application on your device.*I can see here that you're experiencing a known bug which prevents your device from being able to add your cards to the Wallet app, which we are actively working on. If you have not already, I recommend resetting the Wallet app and trying again periodically while we attempt to resolve the issue.*
Thanks,
April

Secondly I responded saying if they can follow up with me should there be any updates on their end she said to keep an eye out on an official wallet update which Google appears to be working on!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Please look out for version updates as well to the Google Wallet application which may resolve your issue.
If you have any additional questions, please reply to this email and I'll be happy to help.

Now I don't know what's the deal with the gapps included wallet, or the one provided by roman since it won't even initiate but I recommend you guys try the one on play store. That one worked for many people despite having root! Just keep trying every few days! Its good to know that my device isn't hosed.

Well its not AOKP, read google's official response on the message above yours, just need to wait. It appears these issues are affecting lots of Nexus 4 owners as google is aware of it (it is not a rom issue or hardware issue) we just gotta wait until the next wallet update I guess

Backup Google Wallet

So I have Google Wallet and I'm bout to flash my phone... I need to know what the best way to back up and restore Google Wallet data is...
I could definitely be wrong, but i was under the impression that if you restore Wallet data after changing ROMs that it will most likely cause the 'secure element' error and you wont be able to use wallet anymore ever.
I believe the correct thing to do is to open the Wallet app, clear all data from within app. Then after installing your new ROM do a fresh install of Wallet (if it wasnt already included in the GApps you most likely had to flash).
Hopefully others will chime in and correct me if i misspoke
I use Google servers restoring all my apps, when switching to different rom . I've been using google wallet with stock, axiom 2.4, and milestone 2.
I never use Titanium or other method to backup apps.

if I clear my wallet data will it restore my $100 balance after re-installing it in a new ROM?
You won't lose your money. Google Wallet reactivates itself when you reinstall the app and log back in to your Google account. I've done it multiple times already on mine going between different roms and haven't had any problems with my google wallet.

Ahh the beauty of Google services and Android
As stated above, before wiping data and flashing new roms, reset the app from within the Google Wallet settings menu. You should be good to go after that. All your money and card info will transfer over.
make sure you document your user ID so if it doesn't successfully restore your account, google can locate your funds. some people here have lost their balance and sol since they didn't write this number down.

This is probably the safest thing to do. However, I don't even reset the app before i flash a new ROM (which I do twice a week), and i have never had a problem with my $$ transferring when i re-install Wallet

[Q] accidentally uninstalled nfc..

I have the verizon galaxy nexus and i somehow accidentally uninstalled nfc.. Last month i tried installing one of the hacked google wallet ports for the nexus. I installed it through the clockwork recovery, and made sure to make a backup before doing this. That version of google wallet didnt work right, so i just deleted it with root explorer. When i found out that google wallet can now be installed from the market, i immediately downloaded it to try it out, but every time i tried to open it, it would get an error. So i went to my backup and attempted to copy the old nfc files back to the system folder (i/e: NfcGoogle.apk and com.android.nfc_extras.jar), but that failed to work.
So any ideas on how to fix this and get nfc working again?
Im kinda new to android as a whole, this phone is my first smartphone. Im hoping this is a simple fix and i dont have to to a factory restore or anything. My phone is rooted too if that helps, and I still have the google wallet files i intalled too.
The attachment is a screenshot of what my wireless and networks menu looks like.
Any help is appreciated
"Secure Element Not Responding" ?
If that's the case, sorry, you need a new phone.
You shouldn't have installed any hacked Google Wallet in CWM.
It said that when I had the nfc files from the hacked google wallet..but with the old files it just says "unfortunately, wallet has stopped" ..and I know that now, at the time I just found the easiest guide to follow for installing it though.

Sorry man, you borked NFC.
You might be able to use it again by flashing back to stock images, but you won't be able to use Google Wallet again, that's for sure.
If you can, try to get an exchange
Huh oh well , I guess ill just give up on using nfc..its not too important to me. Its just too bad I won't be able to use a feature of the phone.
@samsuck Maybe I will flash the stock images sometime this weekend and see if that fixes anything..hopefully it will bring back at least some nfc functionality. Oh and I'm pretty sure its too late for me to exchange phones 0.o

Google Wallet Forgot To Reset

If you forgot to reset your Google Wallet before a flash don't panic you may still be ok. I did this the other day and when I loaded my wallet I got the insecure element but after following these steps I was ok:
1. Log on to my google wallet account from a desktop or laptop.
2. Clicked Disable Wallet App under the Devices section.
3. I then did a wipe and reflash a rom on my phone.
One that was completed I went back to the google wallet website and under devices you can click recovered, reactivate or found phone something like that don't remember exactly what it was.
I then reinstalled my google wallet app and today went to Petco and tested it out 3 different times with 3 different google wallet cards, successful each transaction (employee thought I was crazy though).
I would also like to thank ogdobber for giving the steps to install wallet. For anyone who has the issue the link to his thread is below and the steps above combined with his worked for my so might work for you.

I thought that once you get the "insecure element" error that something in the hardware physically changes, like the secure element fries or something like that? Does this really let you fix that error? :S

Google wallet on cyanogen mod 10?

"The secure element has stopped responding"
I've got cyanogen mod 10 nightly, and Google voice, Google wallet, among other apps have been crashing regularly. Sometimes 5 times per minute, even if I'm not using the app and am doing something else.
Google voice works when calling out, as I can select which phone number to call from, but I can't get into the app itself.
Google wallet launches, but when it asks me to link a Google account, it gives me the error above.
I tried searching for a solution but couldn't find one. Maybe because I'm on my phone. Could someone point me in the right direction? Or does this app not work with modded devices?
Thanks in advance!

the app definitely works on modded devices, so it's not that. you might find some answers in this thread. it's a huge thread, and i'm sure there are a lot of people with similar issues. the little bit in the OP talks about secure element issues, if you look through the more recent pages there, those would be more JB-related.

[Q] Google wallet aokp issue. Yes, I've searched already!

Before anybody flames me, yes, I have searched every forum related to this issue. I am not a noob, just a lurker, so I don't have enough posts to post this in the development section. Here is my issue. I'm running Task650 and Ktoonsez 4.1.2 (build 11.18.2012) and I am trying to install a working version of google wallet. Before I go on, awesome ROM! I flash others and always come crawling back. Anyway, I've tried every variation on getting this to work out there, with no luck. This where I am at now. I can edit my build prop and get the market version of Wallet to work, but obviously it won't once I change my build prop back. If I try to flash the AT&T Modaco zip, I loose NFC in my setting menu. If I try to install the Modaco apk, it acts like its installing it, and at the end I get an "App didn't install" message at the end". My question is, how can I get this to work? If I can't, what exactly is the effect of leaving my build prop set on Nexus? Is it possible to flash the zip file, then extract something from an ota that I can flash to give me back NFC, but leave the rest of the changes the Mocado zip makes alone? If anyone can help me, I pretty much always donate to developers whose hard work I benefit from. Please help if you can. I am stubborn as gravity and will either get this to work or brick my phone trying.
Oh yeah, Its an AT&T phone.
I'm on the same ROM and have not encountered issues. Flash the modaco zip instead of installing, edit your build.prop, then reboot and add your card in the wallet app. After the card is added you can revert the build.prop.

I must have had a corrupt version of the file. I tried again and instead of loosing nfc, or wallet not showing up, the installation aborted. I redownloaded and reflashed with no issues. Thanks!

One more question. Have yuo had any issue with nfc toggling off randomly since flashing this? It seemed to be working fine but what I have noticed is that if I haven't used nfc for maybe twenty minutes, it toggles off. Its still checked, but I have to uncheck it and recheck it to get it to work. I usually set it to stay on even when my screen is off, and haven't had any issues with it before, even when the phone is asleep. I could write a tasker workaround, I suppose, but I would rather just fix it.
I did notice that occasionally the NFC settings become unavailable. A reboot always fixes it for me.
