As far as rooting, the qemu automated root in the developer section for the hd version will work for this system version. If you happen to update at some point to newer version a different root method is needed., but for now that will work.
Sounds like it is a driver issue.
Try this driver installing this driver, make sure the device is unplugged when you install, then reboot your computer:
https://docs.google.com/folder/d/0B4lZEJI5lYeMdnFHeVRMQUtRYWc/edit
It should show up in device manager as composite android adb interface
If that does not work follow the directions in this link to install sdk with kindle add-ons:
https://developer.amazon.com/sdk/fire/connect-adb.html
As for the apps from amazon, you'll just have to install play store and forget about amazon apps.
Hope this helps

MTP sounds like the storage. Maybe the SD card is corrupt. I wish in could offer more help. Did you try a factory reset?
There is a way to get apps from the amazon store without a US credit card
In order to download anything from the Amazon Appstore (even the free apps) you need to enable 1-Click settings on your Amazon account and set a US credit card and billing address. Provided you only want to download free apps you can use any valid US address and a test credit card number.
Expiration Date has to be a valid date in the future (use the mm/yy format). Also make sure to use a US address (just Google for one, but make sure you don’t ship any purchases to this address)
American Express
371449635398431
American Express Corporate
378734493671000
Discover
6011111111111117

3530111333300000
MasterCard
5555555555554444
Visa
4111111111111111
If you want paid apps you can load your Amazon account with a gift card that you can purchase in Amazon with an international credit card. Any purchases should then use the gift card balance instead of trying to charge the non-working US credit card.
Hi Friends, Now my computer is able to read my Kindle after factory reset and few different task.
Now, when I am trying to root Kindle Fire (10.2.4.) through Qemu rooting procedure it says following. In second option "Exploiting" it says Permission denied.
"Rooting FAILED! You may want to try running this tool again.
Your device region may not be supported if you see this message again.
Press any key to continue . . ."
Any other way to root Kindle fire (10.2.4.) and use this as awesome android pad. please help.
thanks a lot for your support and help as always.

the kindle fire does not at this time support usb otg so no 3g dongle. If you have it rooted, I suggest spoofing the build.prop with root explorer so that it looks like a nexus 7 or galaxy nexus. search around the kindle fire 1 forums on how to do that part. it will allow you to download more apps from google play if you installed gapps on your newly rooted kf2.

I'm trying desperately to root my nans brand new kindle fire hd - software version 7.4.9 so that she can access the google play store for the apps she uses as some aren't available on the amazon store.
I have followed your tutorials to the nth degree, downloaded lots of software on to my computer including kff, and binary versions, but each time I try to root her kindle I get the following errors:
fastboot.exe is not responding
adb.exe is not responding.
I then get the error
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc00005) Click ok to close the application.
I've tried removing all software and rebooting again. I'm trying to use your software package as shown in your tutorial.
The device is showing in device manager as Android Composite ABD Interface
I'm at my wits end I'm just trying to do something to keep her from being bored and lonely and I feel terrible because I said she should get a fire hd as it would be better for her than her previous table that kept freezing. I don't know why its so difficult as I rooted my other two fire hd's last year no problem!
Please please help me, I'd really appreciate it

Did you enable ADB in Security>ADB? Do you have the right drivers? (There's some in the KFFA folder which I'll mention later) You could also try different USB ports, cables, and Kindle Fire First Aide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888). Also, I don't know if you're talking about Binary or Bin4ry, but try this Bin4ry Root with Restore. It should work too. (http://uploaded.net/file/a1ycrsqj) You're welcome if I helped.
For some reason it makes me think one of the needed dll's adb comes with is missing, or adb just hates your PC.
I am trying to take my "jailbroken" Firestick and copy it's info to a new firestick. So I will have two that have kodi and I can use one downstairs, I thought I could just back it up on perhaps my desktop and than restore on the new stick. Is this going to work or will I just crash the new one. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am good with my comp, but can't write code or anything like that. Thanks!

There's no "jailbreak" for the fire stick.
You don't need to do anything special to install kodi.
Just install es Explorer and follow the instructions posted on several threads here.
The fire stick I have here already has Kodi on it. I want to clone it or back it up so I can restore to the new stick I just ordered.

So save the settings in kodi and import them into the new one then? That's a simple operation inside kodi to save them.
Use one of the many programs on here to connect your computer to your fire stick and pull the saved file off and push it to the new stick.

use adbfire, back it up to your computer., then connect adbfire to the new stick, and restore.
You will have to sideload kodi on it first, and then make sure kodi is quit and not running before the restore
Thanks so much for the quick response!
My comp doesn't have a HDMI out put port. Someone told me that I would need this adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00H91BQ7Y?keywords=StarTech%20USB32HDES%20Slim%20USB%203.0%20to%20HDMI%20External%20Video%20Card%20Multi%20Monitor%20Adapter&qid=1453840582&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1 to put my Firestick in to back it up. I realize that I will need an adapter of some sort to have an output port to use on my comp. This one just doesn't seem right, as it for a desktop monitor if I read it right. I can see it has a slot that I can put the Firestick in and use one my USB port. Was wondering if there is any cheaper adapter that would work. I wouldn't be using it for any other reason then to backup/restore the firestick.
Just out of curiosity, I had to buy this to connect the firestick to the tv as it doesn't have an HDMI port either. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Z7Z2SM6?psc=1&redirect=true& Would I be ablref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 Would I be able to use the USB cable that came with that and plug it into a USB port that is on my comp. And use that to back up and restore the two firesticks? Sorry for being so brain-dead on this. I understand that there are inuput/ output differences, but honestly don't know what I need. Getting older seem to have made me less willing to try thinks on my own.
Once I get that figured out I will attempt the backup/restore. So in novice terms I am going to plug in the new firestick and find a download Kodi on my comp and install it on the new firestick with abfire (not sure what side load means). Hoping that is an easy click click as I can't write any code. Then plug in the "jailbroken' Firestick that is set up like I want, Start abfire (I understand that Kodi can't be running, how do I turn it off?), back up the JB Firestick. Then put my new firestick in the output port and will hit restore on abfire. Thank you so much for holding my hand on this. I am usually more comfortable with comp stuff, but this has me a bit nervous.

You don't need to plug the stick into anything other than power. adbFire works over a wireless connection.
I've done this before, easiest way is to install clean kodi on the new stick, get es file explorer and copy the files located in the old kodi folder, then copy them to the new kodi.

dont buy anything , Just keep the fire stick in your tv, go to settings on the fire tv, get the ip address, ( make sure your computer and fire stick is on the same network(if you have multiple networks) ) install abdfire on your computer, connect the fire stick or tv with the ipaddress, and click backup, it will back up to your pc. when back up is complete, remove the old fire stick from your tv, insert the new one, connect to wi-fi, turn on the developer options , and then install kodi to it, via abdfire, and then shut kodi down and restore it via abdfire. it will take some time, but the exact copy of the back up should then be on your new fire stick
Interesting but try to find a source for abdfire without going to a malware site I think the whole abdfire thing is malware click bait.

Firstly, Fire Sticks are not jailbroken. they are side loaded. Jailbroken is a term for Apple devices and Playstations. Secondly yes, you can copy your Kodi setup with a tool called ADB Fire I think it's called.
My fire stick has kodi and some other special third party software, I want to clone that stick in case it ever crashes. Is it possible to clone?

Others do clone Fire Sticks for resale. I do not know how they do it but they do somehow. Google is your friend.
Wow! Guy asks for help because he dos not know a lot about the fire tv stick and more than one of you take the time to be douchebags and correct him in calling his stick jail broken. But then you do not even help him! Is this not what the purpose of these forums are?? smh.
Can someone please just answer with "to copy a Firestick to another Firestick, do this...."
Yes you can copy Kodi from Firestick 1 to PC then to Firestick 2 with all the settings and addons.
I used ES Explorer show hidden files and copied the .Kodi folder to eg: C:\temp
Then plugged Firestick 2 and installed Kodi. Navigated to .Kodi location and deleted it.
Copied .Kodi from C:\temp to Firestick 2

OK, I'm REALLY lost. I can't find the thread that has the files to install Google Play since the Kindle Fire Utility is broken (as I've been informed.) I'm sorry to be such a bother but here is my situation: My Kindle is apparently rooted and working. BUT, now I am unable to download previously purchased items stored in the Cloud. Seems that Amazon no longer recognizes the device. So, since I cannot download a Google Kindle app, I'm sort of hung out to dry. How might I go about finding someone local to me who could do this for me? I live in coastal Virginia.

Until yesterday I had a functional FTV stick, now paperweight.
I installed an application for watching TV. The application installed ok but, when launched, told me it needs the Google Play services.
So I went and installed the Google Play services, which also installed ok.
I relaunched the application, which this time just froze, and I could not back out of it. So I rebooted the FTV, with the result that now it starts booting, gets to the white Amazon logo with music and from there it boots again, and again in an infinite loop.
I tried powering it from an external supply - no change. I tried the Right button/Back button remote combination - no change. I did NOT unlock the bootloader (did not expect such a problem and was not aware that it is doable); I do not have ADB enabled.
I read that there is a way to unbrick using a USB keyboard combination but I only have one micro-USB port on the stick which is used for power supply, so I don't see how I can connect a keyboard.
Any suggestions how to proceed from here will be most welcome. Thanks in advance.
Hi there,
Same happened to me. I received a brand new 4k Stick.. it worked like a charm for 20 min, I installed a few thing, and then when I rebooted it started the loop with the amazon logo. youtube.com/watch?v=zK5a-2MILOU
I dont know what to do; my FireStick is not rooted so I cant fastboot or adb it; I cant enter anywhere!
I dont have any OTG to connect a keyboard, neither a keyboard. I have been traying to solve with a thousand of ways which i read on this forum, but nothing fixed it.
I have 2 options, and i dont know if they will work:
1.- Buy o make a fastboot cable. I dont know if it works for Firestick, and I dont know what to do if it works! Should I install a new rom? Which one?!
2.- Buy a OTG and a keyboard to try to enter to the recovery mode. But if I actually enter in there, would I be able to fix it?
What do you guys think?
Thanks!!

Hi there,
Same happened to me.

I contacted Amazon customer support (via online chat) and told them the story. In spite of me not being able to offer any proof of purchase (all went to the bin as the FTV worked so well - until it didn't anymore) they offered me the choice between a 40% discount on a new unit, or a free replacement they could only ship to an US address. As I live in Europe I don't have such an address BUT - I found a company that will receive a shipment on my behalf at an US address and will forward it to my European address for the shipping cost plus a small fee. So I chose this option and I just got an email that the replacement was shipped to the US address.
So, bottom line, I will end up with a new unit (which first thing I will open up all the possible ways - unlock bootloader, enable ADB etc.) and, if ever I will succeed to salvage the old one, I will have a spare for free
Anyway, kudos to Amazon for a great customer support experience.

hi! I have tried to adb link my fire stick when I got the stick from amazon, but failed.Tried thousands times, then I found something that may help:
Unplug the usb port from the amazon charger, plug it directly into the usb hole on PC.
Open the adb window on PC,may be at this time the adb can find the device.
Maybe you could use the adb on PC connect another android phone at first,if it succeed so you will know the adb software on PC is all right.
I found there is something wrong with the last version of the adb software:"the port missing.....".You may try an old version of adb.
Good Luck!
I've tried USB Keyboard <ALT> + <Print> + <i> , also + <Shift> and + <Ctrl>, several combinations / orders.
Seems not to work anymore - keeps looping
After Looping about half a day 4K came up once.
You have to do a factory reset then, otherwise another half day on next boot up.
Network was USB-Hub - USB-Ethernet, don't know if important.
I have to admin that patient i the best way to solve that problem.
It helped me also. I wait for about 24h and it boot up to system and now i'm restored it to default and all works fine

Did you keep your TV POWER ON during the bootloop process?
Fell into it and fixed it twice
Hey guys , I had this problem twice already because of trying to install google services on it and i was searching for hours and hours and i came to this thread and i had no choice but try the solution offered by @iwl in the first time ,because i had never authorised any computer to connect to this stick before, i didnt even knew about it, so i left the FireStick 4K connected to TV and its adapter normally and let it loop as much as it wanted, i actually went to bed and on the next day it was back on, i did a mistake a didnt reset it immediately so later on i had another half a day of bootlooping and when it was up again after a few hours i reset it and of course all apps were lost , not a big deal as long as my FS is back to life.
Now is the nice part that made any bootloop later on a piece of cake, i went immediately and connected the stick to to Minimal ADB via WIFI so i could authorise the computer to connect to it( it is a one time thing, there are some videos about how to do that from which i also learnt the method).
The second time i was prepared so i took the risk and wanted to install Play services in order to get some other app work and not for the sake of google, so i fell into the loop, disconnected the Stick from TV and connected it with the USB cable only to my computer which i authorised before on this specific stick, ran Minimal ADB and fastboot and ran the following commands in the shell (use commands between the " ")
"adb kill-server"
"adb start-server"
to make sure that i am connected to the stick "adb devices"
-you will get list of connected devices
Then unistall the nasty app , in my case it was google so it used these commands
"adb uninstall com.google.android.gms"
in case you have a problem with another app , you could check the app's name with the following command "adb shell pm list packages -f"
find it's and use it the abovementioned uninstall command.
Then in the end , disconnect the device properly with "adb disconnect" and then "adb kill-server"
Voila , back on , all apps were there and only the nasty app was gone
I hope i could be helpful to someone
Mine over 24 hrs still in bootloop. I hope you're telling the truth.
Thank you, I fixed my bootloop with this method.
For me the TV USB 1A didn't work (1st day) and the PC USB also didn't work (2nd day) , only when I plugged it to an USB (2A? 2.5A?) direct to a power outlet that it got able to boot after 8 hours.
Use the included USB Power Adapter and Cable. Especially many other USB Cables are weak and can't transport 1 Amp.
PC USB 2.0 provides only 0,5 Amps, 3.0 0,7 (or 0,8?) Amps but not 1.
Tried to repair it, but nothing helps. Anybody could check, which app could cause bootloop?

I have waited for 5 days without success, but this worked.
Firestick 4k Boot loop issue solved using Y-OTG cable
Hello, I had the same problem. I did not have my fire stick 4k connected to my laptop adb before I installed Google play so I could not uninstall play store and play services using adb. I came across this link and followed exactly what mentioned, It let me boot in to safe mode then I uninstalled play store and play services then did a normal boot. It works well now. (This url is non-English so allow google translate to English)
I got y-otg cable from Amazon, I Kept holding ctrl+alt+menu+printscreen keys while another person assisted to plug in the fire stick power adapter. I kept hitting the "i" key. It started the regular white screen with orange amazon logo after few moments darkscreen+safemode in left bottom appeared then I got my screen. clicked "your applications" and uninstalled both culprits then power off and power on.
(Both blue tooth and usb key board supports to invoke the safe mode)

How to unbrick or factory reset...
avidav said:

To unbrick or factory reset it, you will need an OTG cable with charger and USB conector to connect an logitech keyboard or another multimedia keyboard.
Then with the fire tv turning on ( in loop status ), push at the same time ( ctrl+alt+del ) and when it restart push ( FN key+ Option key -square with lines ) over and over again, until it enter in SAFE MODE. Then, go to my fire tv and push factory reset. ... Good luck. ( if you request the video i going to upload soon in youtube).
There once was a way to install android at
http://kdroid.org/
(Website is permanently down as of September 21, 2022)
this is a fork of a project that began in 2017 and stalled before mid-2019, it had been abandoned for long and it ran an ancient version of android(4.x)
Now, you can install this Android os (although a bit modified) on a Kindle.
It is not recent (released half a year ago) and pretty isolated on the internet.
And I want to bring such a guide to daylight, because I think it deserves attention.
(By the way, this is a work in progress, I apologize for the lengthy delays)
Here is the link:
{Mod edit: Link removed}
(Google drive link is coming)
Bear in mind while the system is very stable, I am not responsible for any issues caused by you using this (obviously uncertified) system
Detailed instructions are available in the attachments section.
Kindle 8 version is based on Android 5.1
All others are based on Android 4.4
I would say battery life is decent but keep in mind to not install resource-gobbling apps e.g. Minecraft or whatever
Supported models:
Kindle 7/Kindle Basic 2 /KT2 )
Kindle Paperwhite 2 ( Kindle Paperwhite 6 gen)
Kindle Paperwhite 3 ( Kindle Paperwhite 7 gen)
Kindle Voyage
Kindle Oasis 1
Kindle 8 gen/Kindle Basic 3 /KT3
KindleXMigu (China Mobile x migu books domestic version)
Newer models are not supported due to bootloader beig locked. Jailbreaking does not unlock your bootloader, and while Alpine linux or other light distros might run on the kindle by a container, Android would not really work. There will not be any significant development for newer models of the Kindle unlesss there is sufficient demand (from you guys)
For Kindle 7, paperwhite 2, 3(except 32gig Japan version) and voyage you could choose to keep the original Kindle OS
Spoiler: (over)simplified instructions. Please use flash guide below instead if not sure.
First root/jailbreak your Kindle and install KUAL
Install fastboot driver on PC, and disable signature check if needed
The driver name is wrong and should be something like adb setup 1.4.2 with an Android logo
Put main-htmlviewer. tar.gz from the uboot folder into Kual (the names might be different)
In KUAL you will see something like FlashAndroid.
Make sure you have enough battery power in your Kindle, and tap the button.
The Kindle will reboot and enter fastboot mode. The status bar of the Kindle loading will get stuck. Don't worry. Everything is fine here.
Without admin privileges, run start.exe
Enter 8 when a list of weird letters appear.
Your Kindle should now be running Android! Have fun!
Installation Guide Version 2.1 Is now available.
These are the instructions made into videos by the original author.
Oasis1, thisand this
Please let me know if the links are dead.
Extremely sorry for the delay,
Apparently you have to register this app called QQ,
Log in and apply for the forum,
And then download the zip.
Long story short I was too bad at Chinese and they thought I was some sort of troll or child.
However, the owner of the forum DID post a link to a Chinese website called baidu disk (something like that)
With so little memory and storage space, I doubt GMS will even work. However, I encourage you to try to find out!
UPDATE:
the project manager is in touch with me and we are writing and translating an entire comprehensive guide for all models supported. GMS does worl but it would drain battery life so badly it would be useless to even install.
Hello. I can't download the files from Baidu. Can you please link them here, or upload them to Google Drive?
It would be very appreciated. Thank you!
Unfortunately my Google drive is full, and I could not download the baidu disk files myself. This is being sorted out.
you may chat with me to find an alternaltive way if needed
Meanwhile, you can go to this telegram channel to download the files needed:

Trying to flash to a Kindle PW2 6.th gen running 5.12.2.2
Im running windows 11
I ran into a problem after step 2.5:
If the Kindle’s screen flashes and the Kindle restarts, wait until the Kindle loading bar stops
moving.
Your PC should indicate that something is being unplugged and plugged in multiple times.( still In
the loading screen)
DO NOT touch the power button while the Kindle restarts.

did so but have the folowing situation:
1- The Kinde starts rebooting and gets mounted for a periode of time. I would be able to copy files to the kindle.
2- Then it unmounts, the boot process goes on and goes to the "USB Drive Mode"
3- The device gets mounted and unmounted (at least windows plays the "plugin- plugout- sounds) in a never endling loop.
When I open de windows device manager Kindle shows up with the exclamation mark. There seems to be no valid driver for the device.
4- After about about a minute the Kindle reboots and runs throug the descibed steps
I guess the device fastboot drivers are not installed correctly.
I will try if intsalling the android sdk chances anything
Any suggestions?
The Kindle has been charged to 100% but im a little afraid, that it may constantly loose power and may die (?) The indicator LED is green while in state 1 and changes to orange while in state 2 and 3. does this mean its beeing charged at any time?
I would be happy for any suggestions
I solved it
i missed to manually add the driver.
after doing so. the bat ran fine. when it told me to do so i longpressed the power button to reboot.
now its running android :]
Thank you for your tutorial. I would suggest to describe the steps a little more detailed to make it noob proof :]

Whats your experience!?
it runs fine, but the possibilitys are very limited for now because i hardly find any any app that can be run.
there are no gapps installed, and im not shure wheter there is something like twrp available for the pw2.
there's a browser, a file manager and an ebook reader preinstalled as well as a launcher with some basic settings. wifi works.
I gave it a try because i was looking for a solution to display a calender that can sync with multiple google accounts. maybe someone can suggest, where to find old android kitkat apps that fit my needs.
forgot to say, that that its rooted with supersu.
i found out that apkmirror lets me filter my search for android versions.
i downloaded some apps and they all seem to work:
catLog
Calculator
Droid Info
Open Gapps app installs and runs fine but toasts "Connection to server failed" after i selected the pico package for 4.4
would have been too easy to believe though ^^

I guess it will also use TWRP recovery to install it. (because it's only supported one)
If this can run. It will not work.
Install GApps Manually

I find this tutorial work, but it requires some workaround.
"adb root" will not work. You will need "adb shell" to remount /system.
After copied you will need to fix copied file permission.
/system don't have enough disk for pico. You will need to remove something.
In my case, its PW2. I don't think it has enough ram to run it.
