I'd really like the look of Firefox OS and would love to test iton my xperia play and was wondering if any dev was either interested in doing this or is doing this?

Not going to happen. The xperia play hardware and software combined (closed source) must support the firefox os.
OK oh well never mind, thanks anyway

Is there an app for sliding screens between various activities when multitasking? For instance, I would like to play online chess and online scrabble at the same time. Is there something that would save me having to switch off applications, allowing a smooth transition through screen sliding?

You can also try LMT Launcher (search xda there is a thread with the app its not in the play store but I think you still need root)
Why not root? I mean it's all good if you don't want to just wondering if there is something preventing you from rooting. I don't know how I'd live without root lol

Isn't that what the recent apps button is for? That is exactly what I do with it...

Many thanks for your replies. Sounds like rooting's the answer!

Sounds like a great plan. You will like the ride. And the app is just great.
I found an app caused App Launcher that I mapped to my Hold-Home button (instead of Google Now). It cost $1.99 but pops up a menu to launch favorite apps from. Google Now is mostly a waste on the N7 without wifi.
The app is hard to find in the Play Store app. I had to use the website.

Many thanks for this! Much appreciated!
I have since then discovered SwipePad, which is even better than what I was looking for. And it's free!

I'm sure some Googlers have it already but it's unlikely they'll post in here

I'm pretty sure it's going to come with Google Play Music. If ever, your current Play Music app will be updated to the new or do a side load.

On an updated only-for-4.2 version maybe?
I highly doubt it. If for some reason Google wants to do that, I'm sure an apk file will pop up. At the very least we will here about it from some type of news source.

I'm I the only person who finds it fugly? I really don't like the blue. Needs to be updated to match the rest of the system.

The looks of it are neutral to me. I don't know whether I like it or not lol
The stock is Google Play Music. No separate music player. You can always download another from Google Play.
This is when you click on mp3 file in system.

Here you go.. Took me a couple of weeks to find out that my very old and retired HTC Hero was compatible with the app. I rooted it so I could get at the apk once it was downloaded from the market. Bluetoothed it to my Sony Xperia tablet and now all is right with the world.
Happy 2013 all.
Dan.
Thank you!

Your elite email and password?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium HD app
I think it is labeled as incompatible as it doesn't work with 4.2 yet. It won't let you enter your elite email + pass even when side loading . Unless my n7 is just poo.

Possible for someone with a more post could upload the the most recent apk from the Play Store?
Not offense to those that did upload it, but I would be more comfortable installing an app that requires my account info be uploaded from someone more active on the forums, can never be to careful about account info these days.

There was a thread about this in the general section, but I can't find it now and its probably better suited here.
So has anyone been able to get it to play videos?
I sideloaded the app and it loads up fine, but when you click a movie it closes.
