Hi All,
I was adding an album to my phone on the sd card via my pc but it constantly shows up twice once with an sd card icon and a folder icon and one with only the folder and other albums that i have show properly (with a folder icon on it (don't know what it means)) even if i add it by pc! I think its weird but does anyone know how to fix this problem?
Kind regards,
Bob Rots
Do you mean within Gallery?
Do you have any sort of autosync of pictures and accounts (picasa, box, drive)? Have you tried clearing the cache of Gallery?
It's helpful if you can provide pictures and use specific names, like "when looking at albums using stock Gallery..." other wise we just fumble at making guesses.

Like all the default pictures in "My Pictures" and in "My Icons"???
I tried deleting them from My Icons, but a message came up and said something about it's a system file. Is it safe anyway?
Also anything else that's preloaded I could delete??? Let me know!
Anyone? I know you guys here had WM for how long now and thought about doing this or did it already.
Someone has to know if you could or not.
have you tried doing it through activesync? connect your device, hit explore, and start surfing files for unwanted, un-needed crap that takes up space. ive deleted default pictures, wallpapers, sounds, "emoticons", smileys, etc. Just do it through ActiveSync..
hope it helps.
Didn't know all this, thanks for the help man really!!!
EDIT: They don't show up!
try going to your view settings. maybe you missed something there.. it should be in there though.. try and post some screen shots if you can. Try all of the folders and sub folders..
From Windows Mobile Device Center I put my mouse on File Management and then click on browse the contect of your device.
The next windows pops up as if it was from My Computer which I could of done without even going to WMDC. I click on the device storage and the screen shot below shows what's inside. When I click on My Documents/My Pictures or whatever else that would have samples nothing is in those folders.
But all that doesn't matter because I could see them from the device. So what I'm asking is, is it safe to delete them even though a pop up appears saying they are system files?
I've done a search, but I cannot find anything really specific on this.
I think I understand quite a bit about MTP, that it shows up as an icon instead of a letter drive, why it needs MTP, etc.
Some users have said that the folders you can access will be limited. My question is what folders can be accessed/seen via MTP?
I really don't mind MTP, but I want to be able to drag and drop and not have to use some syncing software. That being said, does anyone have some screen shots or a video even of transferring files from WIN 7 to the Galaxy Nexus via MTP? A video, even a shot one would be fantastic.
Thank you in advance.
(P.S. I know I can make all sorts of changes and do arranging with file explorers. My question is more of a "How hard is it to get my pictures, music, Docs, etc actually ON to the device. )
Anyone? Maybe just pictures? Just a list of the folders?
Hi, you don't really need to worry about this at all.
The only folders you can't see, compared to USB like before, are the hidden folders which are usually just folders for application data.
It does show up as a device rather than a drive letter, but drag and drop works exactly the same, no need for extra sync software. I won't bother taking a screenshot because it looks exactly the same as transferring files to an android device which uses the old USB method.
To answer your question "How hard is it to get my pictures, music, Docs, etc actually ON to the device", the answer is - it isn't hard at all, and is effectively exactly the same as the old method (better in my opinion as you don't need to mount/unmount). The only way in which you could have problems is if you use a Mac or Linux and then you need extra software, as you're using Win7 you won't have any problems.
Hope this helps
edit - actually I had time to kill so here are some pictures
You're fantastic. Thank you. VERY helpful.
Hi guys.
So I've been using Instant upload for a long time now and I like the option to have extra copies of my images stored in the cloud in case something happens to my phone or something like that. Everything works great except one thing.
From time to time I get new folders in gallery, albums of pictures that are already in the main "Instant Upload" album are showing up alone. Sorted in the Y/M/D format (usually). That wasn't a big deal, I downloaded Perfect Tool for Picasa and dealt with it by deleting extra albums, and only leaving album "Instant Upload" undeleted. And for a few days everything is good again. And a few weeks back problems started, by problems I mean something that Google changed. New captured pictures are uploaded but put into the separate folders and again, sorted by date. That just looks ugly in the Gallery.
So my question is next.
Is it possible to keep the option for Instant Upload but make it not visible in the Gallery ? I'd really like that.
If there's the need to use a different Pictures Viewer, let it be.
Please, someone answer.
Thank you for reading.
I think you have to uncheck the synchronization with Instant Upload and Google Photos in accounts' settings, then clear gallery's cache if needed.
But won't that disable uploading photos to the cloud ?
Still need help with this, if anyone knows anything about how this works, please help out.
I'm having the exact same experience. Apparently it's a known issue and Google is already working on a resolution.

P.S. This is not a Gnex specific issue... it's happening on all phones.
Hello there everyone,
My girlfriend's run into a very interesting problem. She has an Experia Arc S and uses the stock gallery widget to scroll through her images on her phone. Now, she's not one to delete pictures, but she's recently deleted one of a person she had a bad falling out with. However, here's where it gets interesting.
The image is gone from the gallery. However, there's still a tumbnail on the widget.
From this, I conclude that the widget generates its own thumbnails somewhere and stores them and they don't get deleted (or, if they do, they sometimes don't). My question, thus, is pretty obvious:
How do I get rid of that thumbnail in her widget scroll-through-gallery?
Thank you guys for your help. She'll certainly be eternally grateful.
try deleting .thumbnails folder inside dcim in sdcard
you have a q & a forum, by the way...

I'm sorry, I didn't find that forum. The general layout of XDA confuses me somewhat, to be honest. I apologize. But thank you very much for your reply. I greatly appreciate all the help I can get.
Either way, I've looked into the .thumbnails folder and it's not there either. So I gather that this widget somewhere has its own folder and does its own thumbnails... which, if its on the phone memory, might explain why her phone's always low on memory.
have you tried re-adding the widget?
delete the current one on home screen, and then add it back.
Failing above reply, delete thumbs.db in dcim/andro100 folder or go to settings and wipe data of gallery app.

Hi all. I have a HTC Desire EYE (UK based) and use the automated Google upload service. The problem I have is that I want to delete certain pics from the Cloud without removing them from my device itself. I have a huge amount of memes and pics that I occasionally like to use when posting but I don't want them ALL to be kept on my cloud storage which I want for family pictures and a few select items only.
As far as I can see from reading about a zillion posts on many forums if you delete a photo or picture from the Cloud area (G+ style) it will also be removed from your phone (along with any other synced device) regardless. This is not what I want! Is there not any way to manually delete photo's from my Google account and leave them on my phone?
To clarify I also have a huge collection of memes that I really don't want clogging up my Google drive (and a few tasteless memes that I might post on certain pages but don't want kept on my Cloud storage or other places).
In an idea situation Google would upload all I have on my phone then I could manually go to my G+ account and remove certain pics I don't want there but they are NOT removed from my HTC phone. This was always the case in the past and seems a reasonable thing to do to my mind. Why is this not possible?
Thanks in advance

Not the ideal solution, but you could put any photos you don't want to be synced to the cloud in a separate folder on your phone and then disable syncing of that folder. I know that the you can include/exclude specific folders using the Google Photos app, just click the menu icon (upper-left corner) and then go to 'Device folders'. From there you can turn on/off syncing per folder.
