It's called "fast dormancy" it's a feature which puts your data connection into different states to avoid excessive battery drain.. it's actually very helpful in maintaining battery life. Do a Google search for "fast dormancy" there a a bunch of XDA threads explaining everything.
I do admit it's sometimes quite annoying. While I am tethering, I simply open a command window and ping Google endlessly. It keeps the connection always on. Annoying but it helps. Sometimes I don't even notice a difference.

I really don't think you want it on h+ constantly you would get the quickest battery drain

Have you tried changing your screen timeout settings? I know on certain devices that the data wont slow until the screen is off.

Dude, data cutting off aside, that's supposed to happen as others have mentioned. Think about what you're asking, you want to constantly keep 4G connection even when you're not needing - that makes no sense. Does a bullet train go 200mph when it has no passengers? That's what you're saying.

Yes I understand there would be a significant battery drain but what if I could toggle it for an hour while tethering so it would stay on h+ constantly than toggle back go regular way. And the ping someone here mention doesn't work on iPad lol that's pretty much what I want to tether.

short answer .. yes.
I've been working on this for awhile. I personally want it because I get slivers of 4g where I live but the majority is h.(3g) so I'm trying to figure a way to force only 4g(h+) but it's proving quite difficult. It's looking to be only possible via a radio edit. Meaning editing the radio to tell the phone it's only capable of 4g(h+) data connectivity.

Will it waste my battery more if I have 3g and wifi on at the same time? Even though only wifi shows up.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Wifi and 3g are never on at the same time. When you turn wifi on, it automatically disables 3g.
Okay, but does that mean it is better for me to leave both on just in case I leave the house and forget to turn off wifi. Or does that drain more battery?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Depends on what your wifi sleep policy setting it set to. If its set to never, then your wifi would never turn off.
But generally, yes, it uses less battery on wifi than 3g, so use that whenever possible.
What I'm trying to say is: if I have both toggles on does it use more battery? Even though wifi overrides.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
If your WiFi is on but not connected to a network then yes it would drain more battery.
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
That makes sense. But I meant the opposite lol. Like if I have wifi and 3g on. Is 3g draining any battery? And sorry I suck at explaining.

Any clue why my wireless tether only let's me have about 200k down? Tried it on several devices with the same result. Xoom, desktop, and laptop. Speed test on the phone shows pretty consistant 900kbps, I can understand some loss with overhead, but less than 1/4 the speed seems a little extreme.
I'm using the pre14? API...I think. It's been really slow since day 1, slower than my hero - but I just started testing speeds today.
I'm on ee03 if it matters.

okay so when I go to work I usually turn off my Wifi to save battery while I'm working since I keep my phone on. I don't touch it at all and I always leave the house with a full charge. The other night I accidentally left the Wifi on and when I left work I looked at my phone to realize my battery was a lot higher then when I turn it off. I don't connect to my works crappy Wifi either so I think it would be searching the whole time wasting battery... so what's better or is something wrong with my phone?

Tried it. It's pretty much worthless. Turns off wifi when away from your access points, which is cool. Otherwise, all it does is prevent your major apps from updating to a varying degree. It's better to just control this yourself in app settings and "Accounts and Sync" settings. I think the app was designed with people who don't have a clue about Android sync settings in mind. For the type of person who spends time reading Android forums, it's a waste of time. Sorry
If you do choose to use it, be aware that depending on the setting you or it chooses for Gmail, push notifications may not work.

Incorrect. This app has nothing to do with CPU. It automates turning on/off wifi, and blocks or reduces syncing for various major apps.

Hi there
Recently I've been having a lot of issues with wifi calling. I haven't been able to receive any calls directly go somewhere voicemail and when I try to call somebody it says the call cannot be made at the moment
This really sucks because I got really bad cell phone reception in my house I was really thinking of using this as my main way of getting calls in my house
Is there any way to fix it or maybe troubleshoot it in anyway
By the way I'm running tweaked rom on my device

Meaning they started on stock after all you did was root it? Interesting... I use it pretty often and haven't noticed any big difference between pre- and post- rooted. Maybe flash back to stock, test it out, and if all is well try again? That's what I would do anyway.
