hi all
i bought a htc one x from my mate which he had on contract but as of now the phone has been blocked
so now im asking is there a way that i can unlock the phone and put my sim card into it im on the same network so changing the network would not be a problem if some1 could tell me if its possible i would like to know
thanks nick
if you need to contact me my email address is [email protected]
What?
Is it blocked, or SIM locked? If it was sim locked, it would work with the same carrier.
If it's blocked (by the network), ask your mate why he thinks it's funny to report stolen, a phone he sold you.
Yeah the phones blocked its because
Didn't pay the bill and they've done that is there a way around it or not

You can put any SIM you want into a phone, without a custom ROM.
If you want to be able to use it though, you'll need the phone to be SIM unlocked, which a) doesn't require a custom ROM and b) a custom ROM doesn't give you.

No. There is nothing you can do to your phone to remove a network block.
If it hasn't been reported stolen, it should work on another network if it's SIM unlocked.
People are confusing the hboot unlocked and sim unlocked to much. Ben is right ! A custom rom has no influence on being locked or not with a carrier !

And watch out with this info, it could cost somebody between 300,- and 600,- if they buy a branded phone and put in a different carrier simcard .... it's useless !
They will be having a very bad day.....
Im confused because the phone is blocked by network provider so i can not do anything to it to make it work

You could ask the carrier to unblock it.
Ive asked they said they cant. Wish was another way

Yiu should be able to network unlock your phone for under $15.00

Sadly once its locked from a specific network in the UK its locked from them all. You have no way of turning it on without changing the IMEI which is illegal. The phone is useless unless you plan to put a foreign sim card in it or sell it someone overseas. I've purchased cheap phones in the past and had people turn them off on me so I know what your feeling.
Yeah very annoying il just have to use it like a music player they go well with my dre beats headphones which is why i bought it nvm cheers anyways bud much appreciated

The following describes how i got my SGS3 unlocked for free (T-Mobile, not sure if it works for other carriers)
In case you want to unlock your phone for whatever reason, and don't want to pay $20-30 for it, here's what you need to do:
1. Read this article http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-1588
2. Call t-mobile if you match eligibility requirements
3. Ask t-mobile rep submit the request for SIM unlock (cuz you are travelling overseas)
4. Wait for your code and instructions to be sent to your e-mail address. I waited for a day to get them but they say it may take up to 14 days.
Enjoy your unlocked phone.
Who doesn't know this ? .. however you do need an active account with them for more then 90 days...

If you do not have the need to unlock then don't bother.
Unlocking sim comes in handy when you are travelling overseas. You can just buy a prepaid sim card there, plop it in your unlocked gs3 and make phone calls, access the internet right away. You cannot do this if your phone is still locked to T-Mobile network/sim.

Do I need to be on stock Touchwiz to process the unlock procedures and enter the unlock codes? I'm using the AOKP rom now.
S-Beamed from my GSIII via xda premium
I had purchased a used TMobileGalaxy S3 T999 that was unlocked (dont know what form was used to unlock it)
I had been using a net10 ATT compatible sim for a few months now on it, but today I decided to go ahead and activate at tmobile for their 4g speeds and better signal in my area... To my disappointment my phone shows no service with this sim card... The service rep tried the sim with 2 of their other galaxy devices and It worked fine... but not mine...and its a tmobile branded galaxy s3 t999.
So I took it home... figured maybe if I flash an updated modem/radio it will work... but no, flashed UVDMD5 modem/radio with no luck...
my old sim still works... my gfs sim works... and their from completely different carriers... so my phone is clearly unlocked for other carriers, but just not tmobile... its original carrier :'(
And I already activated for the 1 month $60 unlimited plan with 2.5gb 4G so its seems I'm out of money.. and left with no carrier and no phone to use currently... :'(
You guys have any idea how I can fix this?
Currently I'm on cyanogenmod 10.1 jb 4.2.2 (Im also going to try flashing stock fw to see if anything happens)
Looks like TMobile blocked the IMEI because someone reported the phone to be lost and claimed insurance benefits.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Who did u buy it from? Not necessarily tmo blocked Imei. Rep could of looked that up. Someone could of however changed the Imei. Damaging the security partition and they're not matching on tmobiles network.

Its more likely to be blacklisted if you ask me. I'd call Tmobile and ask. By the end of tge year, all us carriers are supposed to begin sharing blacklists. So if it is, it'll be rendered useless anywhere in the us in the near future.
I'm told att and T-Mobile already are sharing these lists. If that's so, and yours is blacklisted, then it'll probably get blocked by att soon too.
Oh, and anytime you're having problens like this, odin stock firmware. Get rid of the rom as a variable.
Call and find out for sure. ...

Yea flashed stock and got bars but couldnt register to network...called they confirmed my phone was reported lost -_-
So now my imei is blacklisted... and talking about changing it is a big nono everywhere from what ive seen
I bet its simple to change but I prefer having a specific set of instructions when messing with that stuff :S
Think about it please, if everywhere you look, everyone tells you not to do it, there is probably a very good reason.
It is illegal. And personally, I would not be comfortable putting someone in that position.
Unlock and sell it overseas is pretty much your only option. Sorry man...

As I understand it, by the end of the year all US carriers will be pretty much using the same blacklist, so it won't just be AT&T and T-Mobile.
And it's people like that "friend" that measures like this are necessary. Is he gonna turn scammer next and try to sell it on craigslist?....basically stealing a whole bunch of money from someone who can't afford to buy a new phone?
The only somewhat honest option is to unlock it and sell it overseas via eBay.

No! It is illegal! I understand that your friend was willing to commit fraud/theft by deception (or whatever you want to call it), so this being illegal probably doesn't matter either. But on pretty much every forum on the internet, including XDA, even just discussing this is against policy.
Please! Consider this! You are asking in a public forum for someone you don't even know to assist you in breaking the law! I truly hope you understand what I am telling you and take it to heart. Personally, I think it is just plain wrong to put someone in that kind of position by even just asking. Id recommend you drop the whole thing tbh.

I have an idea, go away from XDA for stuff like this, we do not do fraud here, nor do we try to assist in fraudulent actions.

I just purchased a used Samsung Galaxy SII for my girlfriend on Swappa. This is the T-Mobile version of the phone. According to the description, the phone is not unlocked. She uses Wal-Mart's Family Mobile powered by T-Mobile. I am wondering if I will need to unlock this phone for use on that network and if so, how do I go about doing it? I would greatly appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thank you very much.

I don't think you need to unlock to use it on Family Mobile. Just put the SIM in and you should be good to go.

U don't need to unlock because any T-Mobile based service will work on a T-Mobile phone without unlocking. APN might need to be changed that's all. I have used T-Mobile straight Sim on this phone and work great with no unlock

Yup, T-Mobile blocked it.. There's no legal way around it, maybe your gf calling T-Mobile to unblock it, but they'll probably charge her full price for the one they sent her.. You could try using a different carrier, but it could end up being blocked again.. You could also sell it to someone in another country, blacklist won't go past the US

There are services that will fix this for you. I payed 35$ for my blocked tmobile s4 to be repaired.
I did this with an HTC EVO 3D. It was locked for 2 years so I flashed the phone to a different carrier and it worked. You might have problems with different features but it is posibble to still use the phone. Find a cellular store that will flash it. They normally charge around 50 dollars, give or take.

I don't think that is 100% true. Cariers now share blacklist. I had tmobile phone I bought off craigs list that was blacklisted shortly after I bought it. Even after I unlocked it, it would still not work on tmobile or ATT. I was able to modify the IMEI on the phone, only then was I able to use it, kinda.
