WiFi / Router connection problem ! SOLVED - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Here is the issue I am having with my Galaxy Nexus while connected to the wifi / router (2Wire Bell Canada) at home
All happened 3 days ago when I was trying to open the play store and noticed that it stucked on the loading... screen
till it gave the connection timed out error.(Never happened before)
I tried to open the browser and been able to browse light sites..Heavy ones though were taking forever to open and
everything that need " sign in " as hotmail..(from the browser) didn't open at all giving an error of not connected to a network.
I run a speedtest >
Download : 6.2 mbps (I have 7 mbps plan) - Upload (took forever to load) : 0.03 mbps (I have 0.7 mbps plan)
Strange enough that next day I tried the above at work over wifi and all worked smoothly !
Tried over 3G and all worked smoothly as well ... !
Went back home, connected to wifi and same issue.., play store stucked on the loading... screen and all the above.
Note that I didn't change any settings neither on the phone or the router... except few updates for my installed apps.
I cleared data / cache of the play store, fastboot erase cache, changed channels on the router but nothing helped !
I was thinking of factory reset or reflashing ...but since it is working at work and over 3G I don't see the point of doing that...
Any help/suggestion will be appreciated.
Thank you,

i have almost the same issue here, but mine is with additional problems like :
"i experiencing extreme slowdowns
- ui is very smooth for the most part, but some actions just have the phone freeze for 5-20(!) seconds
- several (most) apps keep getting the "is not reacting"-screen, even when i'm not using the device
- this freezing sometimes results in complete lockups of the device, device is running but doesn't react to the power button to turn screen on/off (either at all, or for around 20 seconds).
- just extremely slow wifi connection take me forever to download anything."
thing i did :
factory reset, wipe everything , reset everything , tried different roms (4.1.2 ; 4.2 )
the interesting part is when i'm not connected to a wifi i don't experience these problems ..
thanks if someone reply.
and thanks for letting me use this thread.

I tried many tricks without any success ... I wonder if it is related to the internet speed especially that while using my phone at work (extreme high speed connection) I have no problems at all - But at home with a regular high speed connection I have all the problems : can't open the play store stucked on loading, very slow browsing, network timed out ...etc.
Does anyone tried with a higher speed internet connection ? ... what speed are you getting on your phone when all these problems occured...
Thank you,

One thing that most people don't know about it is wifi channels. I had the same issue with my phone not to long ago. None of my PCs were affected by this, so I checked the WiFi channels been use by my neighbors and I found 3 WiFi signals( including my) using channel 6. This is means trouble so I changed my to channel 11 and problem solved. It doesn't mean you r having the same issue but worth a try. Download a WiFi utility software if you wanna check.

Thanks for your input...I tried that too with no luck ! ...But it is true that sometimes changing channels helps solving such issues.

Hello All,
after debating to find a fix for the issues I was having with my Galaxy Nexus and the Wifi / Router (Bell Canada) - Read issues in the first post.
I called Bell for the 3rd time and I was lucky to talk to a smart agent who told me that the problem is from Bell - They are having issues connecting to the https sites (secure sites) and they are indeed working to solve the problem as soon as possible !
So if Bell Canada is your internet provider and having problems connecting to the play store (which needs access to username/password), slow internet browsing, etc... hopefully everything will get back to normal soon !
Cheers,

google maps error:"this application requires a data connection"

Hey guys, i've just received my desire today and been using my current data connection with no problem, except every time i try to open google maps, it comes up with the error "this application requires a data connection". I have updated the firmware to the lastest.
I have searched for this error but the only thing that will come up is about a data connection being dropped when trying to use google maps/gps... except my data connection stays 4 bars the whole time.
thanks, Brandon

Brandon, does the data connection works again after you stop Google Maps (without a reboot) ?
I have the same problem as you and only after reboot I have throughput again
nahh my data connection it works fine after trying :O

Brandon,
I did a hard reset (return to factory settings ) on my Desire today and guess what:
Both my Data problems (no data after use of Wifi and or GPS) are gone !
Tested several times Wifi & GPS , also did a reboot and tested again, all seems working again, no more 3G data problem anymore.
So I guess one of the extra apps I installed caused the 3G Data Connection issue.
I'll reïnstall them one by one to see if I can catch the "guilty" one.
I also hope that problem doesn't return after a while without a cause.
Still not working

I have tried this method. Everything was fine - my phone (rooted Samsung galaxy core duos JB 4.1.2) got faster. But google maps can't connect. I am stuck at the screen where you have to accept the terms and coditions (as it is launched for the first time).
Hope someone has encountered and fixed this error.

[Q] No internet through WiFi after few minutes, still connected

Hi guys,
I've searched the whole forum but I couldn't find any other thread about my problem.
When I connect my HOX to WiIF (Sitecom WL-370 - 300N Gigabit Dualband Router) everything works fine at first, but after a few minutes (5, or sometimes 15 minutes) I've got no Internet anymore but I'm still connected. Also WiFI Analyzer still detects the network. I've this problem both on 2.4 GHz as on 5 GHz. I've also tried switching channels.
The strange thing is, I can still receive a WhatsApp message but I can't send any, also I can't browse on the Internet or things like that.
After turning my WiFi off and on it works fine again for the few minutes..
Best Wi-Fi performance is turned on and the other devices at home haven't got this problem.
Anyone having the same problem or knows a solution?
I've got the same problem and it seems to be totally random. What i noticed is that my Google Play Store always stops working (no connection) shortly after i turned on the phone (~10 minutes). Switching Wifi off and on again doesn't seem to change it, i need to restart my HOX to get it working again while other apps connect just fine after turning Wifi off and on again.
Edit: Stock Vodafone ROM (1.28.161.9)
I have the exact same issue and i went through every setting in my router trying to fix this.
I would turn on my WIFI, connect to my home network, and start downloading. After a few minutes it'll either stop (the dl percentage not change) and then if i reload the market/youtube/browser or any app that users the net, it'll say no connection.
The weird thing about this is that it LOOKS like i am connected to wifi (in the notification bar).
This may be a separate issue, but i tried to turn it off and then on again to get around the issue. This time around i would try to connect to my home wifi and it'll just say 'Saved' and then the network would go out of range.
I am running Leedroids rom.
I might have found a solution:
Under Settings -> Wifi -> Menu -> Extended there is an option for Wifi Power Saving. After unchecking it all my connectivity problems are gone.
May be worth trying a static IP configuration, if you know enough about ip4 to do it. I've seen problems with android Wi-Fi since version 2.2 - if your router issues an indefinite dhcp lease, it can show exactly the symptoms you describe. Only a possibility but worth a try.

I have the exact same issue - the wireless shows connected yet you cannot browse the Internet etc. I have also tried every setting on the Wireless AP without any success. Even tried static IP and that does not fix it either. Whilst other devices in the house are ok...
The weirdest thing is though it does not happen everywhere i.e. at other places like work (where at least the same type of AP is in use) or at my brothers' house (where he has a Linksys). This is pretty much the only thing that bugs me with the HTC - the only workaround I have found is to make sure that WiFi is kept on only at times when plugged in - this doesn't actually fix the issue but it does mean that the phone will disconnect the WiFi and get a new connection next time it wakes up - this way I find I get the problem much less than when I have it set to Always.

Yeah, exactly, I've got the same problem. At school I've got no problems with the WiFi. I already send a message to HTC and I'm waiting on there answer.
I have kinda the same issue.
Using a HOX and at work I'm connected to Wifi and I can browse. At my house I can connect to the wifi, my IP is right that I'm getting from DHCP (I even tried putting in a static IP) but I can't browse
I also have a HTC Sensation, same setup and it works. The sensation can browse at work and at my house.
Why would this be?
Tried all sorts of solutions, but the only one that works is disabling the N-band and only leave B and G. This means that your laptop won't connect with the faster N, but at least the HOX works (what's more important )
Well I tried broadcasting a separate SSID on the b/g interface only for the exclusive use for the hox but that hasn't made any difference...my workaround is to have tunein radio in the background streaming whilst surfing...if I get bored of that solution my next workaround will be to trade the hox for an s3 as much as I despise TW...

I tried all the bands "B, G, N" and nothing works. So tired of this crap. Think I might just get a S3

I was thinking to do the same but there is no chance in hell of me doing that after I compared my HOX with a display model at the phone shop. Pentile screen vs LCD on the HOX? HOX = Sharper and better whites - the white on the S3 is bluish and so obvious. Another thing also I noticed is that the aggressive auto brightness on the S3 is too much - you won't tolerate it and you will likely be forced to manually adjust all the time. That plus reading that the S3 goes through the battery like no mans business when on standby unless you turn off all the features and put it in power save mode (might as well buy a Nokia then) at least the HOX uses the Ninja core and actually does save your battery in standby mode.
Anyway - the reason I replied is that I found a workaround (note, workaround does not mean a fix) - I put in a wifi extender in an area where I tend to spent most of my time with the HOX - this has not fixed the problem per se but rather seems to have elevated it somewhat. Basically now if the HOX drops from the main offending AP it automatically gets hooked up on to the extender and carries on working! I say this because (and I saw this only twice so far) I realised that when the phones Internet connection stops and you load a new page it timed out and get page cannot be found but when I hit refresh it works again you do notice a 3-4 second lag (this never happened before the extender came into play). Not sure if anyone else has tried this but I got a Linksys/Cisco extender for £69 and so far at least it has given me a workaround. Of course your mileage may vary...so don't splash out on an extender and come and blame me if it doesn't work for anyone here...
I am also having this issue with my HOX has anyone found a fix for this?
i have tried everything listed and nothing works.
its weird though because i have NO issues on my home network, but my network in my apartment here and at work network i get this issue
!!
bbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbuuuuuummp any fixes??? this sucks !!!!
What versions of android you guys have? Stock, sense, vanilla android, ics, jelly bean? Because I didn't encounter this problem when running stock or ics custom roms. After I updated hboot to 1.31 and tried different jelly bean sense roms it appeared. I also tried some stock android roms (ice cold jelly and liquid smooth) and wifi seemed to work fine. So is this sense problem only?

problem with wifi

I have problem with my nexus, wifi is connected but I cannot access any internet. Sometimes interet works normal, then suddenly disappears, wifi is connected normal but there isnt internet
I tired wih other android phone, samsung galaxy ace, but same thing
But nokia n8 works normal, this dosnt happening
I do not know of which can be either the router or the phone
I tried to change settings on the phone and the router but nothing
If someone has an idea, I would be grateful to him
I had the same problem on my nexus, while the wifi worked fine on other devices. I flashed several different ROMS, to no avail, and resolved myself to believe that it was a hardware problem. Before flashing back to stock, I reset the Router, just for laughs. Problem solved. Make sure your wifi settings on android are correct, and try resetting your router. It's worth a shot. Which ROM are you on?
i tired several times with reseting router, even change settings, sometimes internet start to work but after 30-40 minuts stops again
i dosnt now what exactly ROM is on phone, becouse i just buy him
Without knowing the ROM, and at the risk of sounding like a tech support douche, maybe you should try a wipe/factory reset.

Hi,
I am new to dealing with the Android OS with my Galaxy Nexus, but I am thinking the same thing. My main concern is backing up and reinstalling all of my information, apps etc. I use Titanium backup pro for my backups but would like to know if my phone will be recognized when I try to reload all of my apps.
Thank you for your reply.

I have WiFi problems at my house. It shows that I am connected but no internet. I know is the router in my case.
I would test your WiFi somewhere else, such as Starbucks or Barnes and Noble.

Hi,
I have connection everywhere - Starbucks, home, Staples, Chapters/Indigo (Barnes and Nobles equivalent in Canada), even borrowing Wifi from unsecured home networks etc. but the disconnect is between the Wifi and getting my Internet to connect. Connection bars are all gray and at home very strong signal showing. This reminds me of connection problems I had with my laptops (running the MS OS of course), but in the Android OS I am a "newbie" and reading forums trying to figure what other people's connection problems are, and how they were solved.
There are no Wifi connection problems using my laptop (now) or my daughter's iPods, my wife's Blackberry Bold at home. My data works find, and I wish there was a roll back feature to the time just prior to the problem occurring last Thursday. My understanding is I have to completely restore my system, and this leads me to more questions about if I can reload all of my apps or if I will have to pay for them again. In the end, it may be faster.
I downloaded - per member recommendation - a Wifi analyzer and it shows that my home Wifi speed is excellent.
Thanks, I am always open to ideas to solve.
Do you know how to find the version of ROM on my Galaxy Nexus? I must look.

One X Wifi Problems After 4.2.2 Update

Hello, i know this has been discussed here before, but i wanted to ask for help anyway. My Wifi was working perfectly fine on Android 4.1, but after this update to 4.2.2 its really bad.
I know its software issue, pressing right top corner of my HOX doesnt help at all. I tried factory reset, but it didnt help. I´m running official ROM and no root. The problem is that sometimes when i have full signal strenght, the wifi speed is still horrible (like 0.5mb on 10mb wifi).
Any suggestions what to try? Thanks a lot

I have exactly the same problem. All HTC customer service suggested was factory reset, tried that and no difference. On 4.1 it worked fine on my wifi at home throughout the house, now on 4.2, works ok downstairs but useless upstairs even when it says I have 4 bars of signal. Very one times flaky though and sometimes drops to 1 or none. This is a disaster as I understand there is no way to roll back to 4.1. This is unbelievable!! How can an official update totally break basic functionality with no way back!? Searched all over Internet to find a solution and no luck, even though a fair few people seem ro have this problem. Is not a hardware problem, as OP, squeezing top right makes no difference. Have tried static IP, doesn't help. Desperate for help, can any wise heads on here suggest anything? Thanks!
So wish I had not updated, it worked brilliantly before.
Same situation here after the update... With full signal keep having horrible Wifi speed... :'(

Any chance anyone can suggest any other solutions to try?
Failing that, some details on what Richmondos fix is would be useful!!
Yeah, I really dont want to root my phone too, because i have warranty for more than 1 year now and I will sell the phone in future, so I dont wanna risk loosing warranty..
I also have similar problem! But it varies, sometimes it's bad and sometimes not??? Phone is stock and locked and don't want to unlock and install custom stuf, until warranty period is over.
Hello to all
I have the same wi-fi problem on my HTC One X since I made the update.
Is there any way to solve this?I hope so, because Wi-Fi signal is very bad, and I use it a lot of time.
I have CWM recovery installed, bootloader unlocked, and s-on, recently I have rooted my phone,
but at this moment is not.
I dont care installing new kernel, radio,etc........I just want to solve this problem :crying:
Tanks to all
I have a problem with my wifi too since the Andriod 4.2.2 and Sense 5 update, but it seems to be a bit different from yours. The speedtest.net app and the ping & DNS app give the same results as my PC that is hard wired to the router, so speed and ping seem to be fine.
But I get errors like Connection Problem Authentication via the proxy server was unsuccessful - but I don't use a proxy server. In the HOX wifi settings for that router the Proxy settings are Manual, Proxy hostname 127.0.0.1 and proxy port 3128. Are these correct for when there is no proxy? If switch from Manual to None and go back in then it has gone back to those settings.
Another error is Connection Problem this page contains too many server redirects. But the page displays fine if I switch to mobile data.
Or I get Connection Problem there was a network error. Again it works fine on mobile data.
Then there are some webpages that give a 404 page cannot be found error. Again it works fine on mobile data.
Some of these problems are repeatable on the same webpages across different routers in different buildings.
Sometimes when connecting to a router the HOX connects and the loses the connection and then reconnects up to 10 times before settling on the connection.
Like you I would rather not root etc if possible.
So, noone know a solution for users without root? I found out that on some wifi (in school), it works quite fine even on worse signal. But before update, it was ok on every wifi..
Hi
i have the same problem with my wlan connection. Nearly 100kb/s.
I had tested my internet download speed on my computer and takes interesting information:
my internet connection is 70MBit, this means i can download with nearly 8,2 MB/s.
If my HOX is not connected to the router, the whole downloadspeed is available on the computer. But if the HOX is connected, the downloadspeed is only 1 MB/s.
After disconnecting and rebooting the router, the internet connection is as well as before.
Does anyone makes the experiences?
regards
Daniel
I don't have the speed problems, Speedtest.net app gives the same results on my HOX as my PC.
One of my wifi problems is to do with the Wi-fi connecting to a weak signal instead of the stronger one - I have worked around this by installing WiFi Fixer App which works well at switching to the stronger signal.
Also there are some websites that give errors like Server Error too Many Redirects (for example http://www.thefreedictionary.com/ does that for me) or 404 Error - Page Cannot be Found (http://fahrbot.co.uk/) or are sometimes slow to load - I have found that these issues don't happen with the Opera Mini app, so why does the stock browser give these problems when on wifi, but not on mobile data?
Another one is that if I click a link in a webpage (or type in a URL) that takes me to a webpage that has a mobile version as well as the desktop version I get a strange URL that doesn't work. For example on mobile data typing in www.abmobileapps.com takes me to the mobile version of the website, but on wifi the URL automatically changes to http://www.abmobileapps.comhttp/www.abmobileapps.com/ and the page cannot be found. Again it works in mini Opera on wifi.
WIFI FIX
if you use rooted device, use lyapota mods and flash modpack http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2114584 (contin wififix and other).
for me works great :highfive: (my router has openwrt)
I found out that on some other wifis speed works just fine. I have router D-Link DIR-600 with stronger antenna than it was stock. I use WPA2 security and Dynamic IP.
Is there anything what I should try to fix it? Thanks for any suggestions.
Here are some advices how to fix the WiFi issues - router dependent (need access to the router setup):
1. Make sure that you are not using channel 11-13
2. Disable "WMM Support" in router Wireless -> Advanced Settings. Note: this will force G-only speed (54Mb)
3. You you want to keep the N speed, put your phone in the highest possible QoS priority without disabling the "WMM Support"
Hope this helps

conneted but can't surf internet (error 404) but can only use opera mini (very very very slow).
Using other device no problem with the wifi..anyone can help me? TQ :crying:
The problems I am having with proxy and 404 errors are all caused by the Web Protection feature in Kaspersky Internet Security for Android since the OTA to Android 4.2.2 (it worked fine previously). I have installed the latest KIS 11.1.4.141 from the Kaspersky website (because Google Play says it is up to date at version 11.1.3) but the problem still occurs. So I have turned off Web Protection in KIS and all my issues have been cleared up.

E975 KitKat 4.4.2 Wifi problem

Here's my problem:
After flashing my Optimus G from 4.1.2 P4 Poland to v20A France a strange problem occured. My wifi, although it connects nicely, works almost 10 times slower than it should. I should have about 10Mbps, not 1Mbps. The funny thing is that my upload speed is slightly faster than the download, for example for 1,12Mbps down i get like 1,80 up. I've had this problem for 3 days or so, so obviously I didn't just sit and watch. Here are things that I tried, but they didn't work:
- soft reseting (for about a minute after the reset wifi works normally, then it goes down)
- flashing back to 4.1.2 (my prev soft), factory reseting, flashing back to 4.4.2 (v20A France),
- flashing v20A Italy,
- flashing to v20B France (I'm on it now),
- restarting the router and the acces point,
- applying zip update named FixWifi found on this forum,
- downloading app called WifiFixer, it did help but for a single measure only. I mean I had to run it again after every measure of the speed, because the first was ok and the next ones were slow again,
- getting as close as possible to the router and running the test again, no changes,
- setting static IP for my wifi,
- forgeting and reconnecting to my wifi (worked like the reset, only for a while),
- turning on the airplane mode (it worked for about 30 minutes, then it went down again).
I use Ookla Speedtest for the measurements.
My modem with router is TP-LINK TD-8816
and my router with acces point is Asus WL-520GU. I'm using double routing.
Other Android devices in this wifi work normally (Nexus 4 and SGS3).
Can anybody help me? I ran out of ideas.
Please. Oh, and when you reply, please use simple words because firstly - I'm not so good in this topic and secondly - English is not my native language
Cheers!

Ok, the Wifi Analyzer showed me, that my wifi works on 2412MHz. After setting the freq in the app from the link to 5GHz the wifi won't even connect.
I'm sorry for the double post, but I still need help so I decided to bump this topic up.
Edit: I went back do 4.1.2 (10E) and everything is ok. Can be closed.
