I feel like the s3 has weak audio drivers. On my old photon 4g running cm 7 with DSP I had my volume at mid level and it would block out the train on my morning commute. Now running killjoys ROM even with the volume all the way up, I can still here everything around me. I also can't get any EQ's to work. They don't change the sound at all. Not sure if its my phone, ROM, or something else.

I've noticed the equalizers don't work too.

The equalizer within the Poweramp music app works.

Do any of the volume hack apps work for this phone? Not for headphones but to hear it ring louder.

U really think this phone doesn't ring loud enough? Lol...for me its almost obnoxious.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
It is loud ... really loud ...
I have owned 5 other Android phones over the years before this E4GT, and it is easily the loudest of them all. The phone ringer is too loud for me, can hear the thing a mile away.

Guys remember its all in what ringer you choose to use also. Some of the custom ones I use are softer than others.

I agree it is loud. But my evo might of been louder. But either way, its loud.
Wow ... for me its also got soft speakers ... can barely hear anything without headphones
If anything this phone needs reduced sound. It's so loud at maxed setting I can leave it in my basement and hear it on the 2nd floor lol.. The alarm volume is really low though and you'll sleep thru it.. Reminds me of the first epic since it had the same issue with the notification volume being lower then the others...

I use "old phone" ringtone, and it is just way too loud at max volume, ear piercing.
I keep it set to 1/3rd volume, and that is plenty loud to hear nearby.

I don't have music on my phone. I listen to Pandora while I'm at work. Equalizer app works great and its global, so anything you play will sound great! So why is everyone so crazy about something that only works with limited apps?

who said it's only work with limited apps? It's in the Root of the phone, when you flash Beats Audio everything you hear changes, much better
quality and clarity.
DSP manager is there to manipulate the settings.
flash and see, you will see the difference
Volume + is for no and rooted users and works way better then beats

But nothing sounds like DSP Manager on cm roms. The clarity and quality is just too good.

I understand the basics behind both of them, running all stock PA 2.13 right now and don't notice any difference between stock DSP on or off. Has anyone flashed a beats on a JB ROM successfully? The ICS ROMs I flash work great by ear just on the phone, as well as, streamed or connected to an external source. Any input is appreciated

There are different types of beats. But if you know how to work an eq, dsp or awesome beats should work

Poweramp's eq is good too, but there are those who stream from their Google music that needs a more general use eq.

1) Equalizer app works with Pandora but does not with Google Music...
2) Some versions (latest) of DSP work with Google Music but not with Pandora...
3) "Ported" beats libs does not work at all on SGII...
4) Good headphones (like IE80) does not need any EQs...
Make your pick.

How do you know that?
Alright, to be constructive, make an experiment... delete all beats *.bin files... leave only AwesomeBeats.apk, config file and cyanogen lib.so... reboot...
Does it still work?
OK. Well I use Pandora so I'll stick with equalizer, cause it sounds good. If I ever get a bigger SD card so I can put music on here I'll check out beats.

With Google Music you can stream from cloud ... you don't need to keep your music on SD card.
Google gives you cloud space for 20000 titles regardless of file size for free. I have around 5000 songs with high bitrate it's about 40GB.

Well, I got Awesome Beats installed, and it makes a WORLD of difference, however, after playing through maybe a song and a half, it disables, and the sound goes really low until I go back in, uncheck everything, recheck it, and restart the music.
Is anyone having problems with the galaxy nexus speaker when playing music? It seems like it plays music quitter than on 4.1.2. I checked the volume through settings and its at its max.
Anyone know of a good volume boost app, I've tried a few and they don't really do anything.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I believe the only way you can boost the volume is by installing a custom rom like cyanogenmod.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
you could flash awesome beats, that works pretty good, but i have actually noticed an increase in volume since 4.2
Same. I also discovered that any adjustment to the equalizer diminishes the volume. This was not the case on 4.1.2. I was also benefitting from the Volume+ app but it does not serve its purpose now.

Running vanilla root box nightly 6/18 and I can't seem to get DSP working. I don't notice any difference. Is it the headphones or music app causing this? Using power amp and default gs3 headphones. When using my old HTC og evo 4g DSP worked flawlessly 100% of the time
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
Did you use it with poweramp on the evo?
Poweramp has its own eq built-in. So you may have to use it.
Don't know much more about dsp though, sorry.
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda premium
Yeah that's the thing.... On the evo DSP worked regardless of my player. It even worked in addition to any presets I placed with poweramp
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
If its a bug, it may have been addressed in the recent nightlies. They fixed several problems from what I understand.
Otherwise, I'm just not sure. Did you ask in the roms thread?
Sent from my SGH-T999L using xda premium
Have you disabled direct volume control in poweramp?
Sent from my SGH-T999 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
Pretty sure I did. I ran out of ideas and installed v4a audio mod... But some apps are so loud like my volume is turned up all the way. So far it only affects Pandora and slacker

I don't think so, since we edited the rom/script to get it to install. I wouldn't try until the dev adds the T999L to his script.
Just fyi, you'd be much better off posting this type of question in this thread:

This one doesn't actually have anything to do with your new question.

I ran it for a while and never noticed it. That was with all the audio mod settings adjusted though so I'm not sure if that may be why I didn't notice it?

I noticed without changing anything. Not real noticeable but it's there

I've noticed it only makes the noise of I'm doing something on my phone while listening to music. If it's just playing music and the screen is off its fine.

I can confirm the scratchy noise does arise after receiving a notification, specifically after a text message it persists until I change the track and then all is normal again. Does it still happen on the latest nightlies? I havent tested since being on 9/3

Static is still there on 9/4.Any idea whether this issue is on the CM developers' radar?
I did notice that if you turn off the equalizer and not use DSP at all it doesn't make the noise but of course the sound quality sucks.
