hello lg - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hi im new coming over from the sgs2. im just wondering how you guys/girls are taking a liking to your phones. i see some troll threads on here and i just want to see how the gen pop thinks about it. it was this or note 2, i chose the lg because the note is to large for a pocket imo. also iv owned htcs motorolas samsungs all the big guys but never an lg. so im stoked about that and about coming over here with all you fine folks. happy holidays to everyone and i look forward to chatting, helping, and being helped by everyone.

Hi and welcome. It's a great phone. Ignore the trolls

I love the phone so far. I rooted and unlocked so I could remove the few Sprint bloatware apps. Not a lot of movement on the dev front so far, but people are working on it. I expect CM for it some time, if not soon then soon after the JB update is released.
As far as the phone itself, it's fast (duh), the screen is gorgeous, and the default UI is honestly not that bad, especially compared to some others. I came to this from the Evo, and I have a S2 from work, and this is by far the best of the three. Battery life is great for me, except when my job sends me to areas with bad coverage, then it seems to drain faster than the S2. I guess that is my one real complaint, but we'll see how bad the drain is once custom kernels become a little more stable. You'll love this phone.

very cool thanks for the response. im so excited about this and i hear the next nexus is going to be and lg? btw not that it would stop me but how much is rooting and unlocking with an lg? easy or pain in the butt

Rooting phone is easy. I believe someone has an all in one root/unlock but doing both separately is easy too. Just read through development thread and it shouldn't take you long. Right now nothing worth flashing so I haven't unlocked but stock UI with bloatware removed is running smooth for me. So far I love this phone. Nothing seems to slow it down and the screen is gorgeous. Battery life has been better than all my previous phones (OG Evo, GS2) but never lasts as long as you'd like it to. This phone is the Nexus 4 older brother so we should get some AOSP our way sooner or later. Enjoy!

Ah i see you took the blue pill .. welcome to the rabbit hole. This phone is great bro your gonna love it.

cool now i cant wait!! tuesday wont come soon enough. and i like the matrix comment

Getting my SG2 Tomorrow...

Getting my White SG2 tomorrow - stoked! I know this will probably get balked at as a dumb ass thread, but gimme me a break, it's the general section. I'm new to the SG2 forums, been looking around the last couple days, but want to know if some users could offer some starting off tips. I understand there are no stable cm roms at the moment, so is what's available mostly just tweaks of the stock tw 4.0? What are the current benefits of rooting, removal of bloatware and tw theming?
For the record, I've rooted and run circles around my last two phones, but they were both HTC so this is my first dance with a Samsung Android, and I hear it's a little different.
Anyway, thanks and I'm excited to jump into this baby!
welcome to the sgs2 ,i love my phone but development sucks over here ,seems like there are a bunch of immature teenagers in this forum cursing each other out and seems like a dev gets banned every week .very dissapointing if your coming from an HTC phone where the dev support is mostly pretty good and civil. But any how the sgs2 is a great phone ...enjoy and welcome
i use beastmod rom.... Phone is sweet but i just got a nexus today and damn... that phone even though it's pentile it looks sweet at 720p.
Only tip from me is beware of static images.. super amoled burns in faster than plasma.... I always keep screen moving... my old galaxy s had notification bar burn in and even icons and i was good with it. Use a rom of theme with blue clock or easy color... image retention with white clock is almost instant.

best stable rom around here would probably be juggernaut rom paired with faux's kernel(very very smooth) use that with touchwiz 4.5 and you'll customize the theme however you want.

Agree! I came here from HTC G2 (Vision). The support over there is Amazing! So many roms that I couldn't decide. The devs are very nice and professional unlike here. Call me troll/hater but I'm telling the truth. I am a bit disappointed by the support for this phone. I wish the CM team has more love for this device.
Anyway, welcome to the GS2 family!

It's my understanding from the reading I've done so far that cm9 is in the works...supposedly maybe an ics rom??
To all the others, thanks for the suggestions. Even though the SG2 has been around awhile, the TMO version is still pretty new, and I think most people who have upgraded to a 'new' TMO phone will either be on this or the Amaze, so hopefully the pumped up devving is coming. And with ICS on the horizon, who know's what's to come...? At the TMO store the other day and a rep (who uses the SG2 as his phone) told me he's pretty sure the SG2 will be getting ICS within 1-2 months. For those interested, he also told me he was sure that when the next iphone hits (iphone 5?) TMO will carry it...but who knows on that front lol.
Thats probably good news for Tmobile if they get the iPhone but that does nothing for me as I don't like them, my hopes are T-Mobile switches to LTE and carries the GS3 but that's a long shot on the LTE thing for this year but more than likely they will have it in the future

Welcome - I hope you enjoy your phone and if the screen doesn't bother you, keep it!
I went through about 5 SGS2s and each had the screen problem - which I couldn't bare.
Hopefully samsung fixes the issue within a month or two so I can get the phone again but until then, I will be without it
Enjoy it! I know I did while I had it.

You're talking about the 'streaks' that show up on the screen? I've read about this elsewhere on XDA, anxious to see for myself when the phone gets here sometime today. Having streaks going across my phone's display on a regular basis is the kind of thing I'm not willing to deal with for a $500 price tag. We'll see...thanks for the heads up.

Im fairly certain Tmobile is going to start switching over to LTE Read This, there is some really interesting info in it about tmobile and LTE.
I would suggest you spend 1 or 2 weeks to use it first, once you get a hang of it you can upgrade android version or root the phone using Odin.

Me too i miss mexdroid team lot drama on here

Just bought a Galaxy S3...

...and am selling it again.
Ive had a GN since it came out, and an S2 for a year prior, which I loved, for the most part. I had great hopes for the S3 but was massively disappointed. Its a great phone in many respects, but the touchWiz (Which is better than S2 but still sucks) UI lets it down. The keyboard is woeful. The messaging app suck. Many of the features border on "gimmicky". I know many of these issues can be solved by replacing stock apps but seems such a shame seeing as such strides were made by Google with Android 4.
Anyone else dabbled with an S3?
Be prepared for the CBS's man.. I wanna get one to try it out

The CBS?
I've messed around with one. Its a decent device but nothing I would call next-gen.
My girlfriend just got one yesterday. Had a play with it when she reluctantly handed it over. Seems very nice tbh . If I got one as a straight swap for my nexus I'd probably go for it. Would root it though and get touchwiz off it asap. .
My workmate has just got one, they are nice phones hardware wise but not significantly better than the Nexus and, yeah, Touchwiz still sucks.
S voice lags the phone, s beam is just a lazy way to configure wifi direct, smart stay is kinda cool though it's not that hard to set a few seconds delay between screen off and lock just in case ... so again I can't really see any killer features to make me want to upgrade.
I'm so happy with the gnex at this stage I might actually keep a phone for a year this time, unless a new nexus comes out in that time of course.

Confused - S4 Sucked will HTC One be any better - Back to iPhone

So,
6 months ago I decided to try out the iPhone. It was an experiment that ended up with me thinking apple is not that bad. But i love tinkering and the tinkering itch was back. So I did a straight trade with someone, my iPhone 5 16 for an S4. Mine you before the iPhone I rocked a rooted GNex running AOSP, before that a rooted Droid X AOSP, a rooted DInc running AOSP and my first phone a Moto Droid original NOT rooted.
So here I am with this S4 and before I bought it I checked to see if there were any ROM's see the activity and it was booming. So F it, got it only to find out it had the latest bootloader that was unlockable. Touchwiz sucks, I tried it for a few days until I said F It and sold it. Now I'm on the boat another iPhone 5 or try the HTC One.
I don't see much development activity but with the people that have been here a while. Can you give insight, it just got cracked and it I get it, it will be S-Off and Unlocked before you can sneeze.
A little thought and guidance would be helpful.
Thanks

Not Really Jorv... I love me a stock android experience and if I can eventually get that with the HTC. I would sign up for it in a heartbeat. I think Sense to have cut back. Rock the HTC One with say Nova and get rid of the bulk of the terrible things Sense offers.
One thing I could not stand with the S4, is that they cluttered the notification panel and status bar with crap. Way too much I did NOT or want.

There are several Google Play Edition and CM-based ROMs for the HTC One in the development section.
I was kind of in the same boat as you. I had an iPhone 5 but I missed the customization of Android, plus I REALLY wanted a bigger screen. Got a Galaxy S4 but really didn't like it - too locked down and TouchWiz sucks.
So, sold the S4 and got the HTC One. First thing I did was mail it off for S-OFF (before the software S-OFF was available). Unlocked bootloader and debloated this thing. Right now, I'm running completely stock ROM with bloat removed because I actually like Sense. It's FANTASTIC in all regards.
There's already several solid options for the stock android experience in the original development thread + slimrom which isn't listed. Have you read anything on this forum yet? + its already s-off and unlocked.
With a software exploit only made availble a couple of weeks ago, it will take time for a large amount of ROMS to be released. There are already 5-7 and more coming every day. If you like tinkering, not even sure why you would consider an iPhone. Even my 70 year old mother got bored of the iPhone and made the switch to Android.
If you want a solid phone that works and you don't mind drinking the Apple Kool Aid and remaining totally stock, get the iPhone 5. If you want anything more from your device, get an HTC One. Pretty simple really.
Came from the Gnex just like you and got antsy at upgrade time and pulled the trigger early and got the S4, too. While it was a decent phone, the bloat was unbelievable and I found that I'm no fan of touchwiz. And I agree that the notification area is bombed out pretty heavily.
I returned my S4 after a week because the One was available on Verizon and never looked back. Completely happy on stock with a couple mods from the themes and apps section and Xposed framework. I'm curious to try Viper when it's available for us but truly am content with stock until then.
I'm not going to dump on the iPhone. It's a solidly built, locked down device. My wife has one and is happy with it but I like to tinker and have all the options that Android brings to the table. There's quite a few solid AOSP and Sense based roms right now, like others have said before me, and it looks like more are coming.

I think you'll be surprised with Sense. It's actually pretty nice, especially for photos, etc. Like mentioned before, though, if you like tinkering you're just wasting your time getting an iPhone.

Yes. And you don't want to wait too long to get it either. The thing with software exploits is that they can be easily patched, which is guaranteed to happen to the current rumrunner s-off exploit with the 4.3 roll out. This is perhaps the only occasion where Verizon's slow upgrade actually works in the consumer's favor.

Like you, I tried the iPhone for a little while and while its a great device, I can see why a lot of people like it, I just got bored with the UI and frustrated by the lack of capabilities after about 6 months and bought the S3. The S3 was a fantastic phone, TW wasn't so heavy that it effected phone performance severely and overall I was very happy. We switched from Sprint to Verizon and when we did, I bought the S4. I figured I liked the S3 so much that the S4 could only be better. Boy was I wrong, TW has grown to be far too large, device performance was disappointing and the UI is starting to look dated. There were ROMs available to alleviate some of my concerns but overall I was never satisfied with it.
So, I decided to try out the One after I saw S-OFF was achieved. To be honest, I've rooted, jailbroke, unlocked, etc all of my phones since the HTC mogul in 2007. This is the first time I've stayed on a basically stock ROM when other options were available. Sense 5 is so nice, it's very smooth, light weight, and unlike TW doesn't seem like its trying to cover up Android. The HTC One and the S4 use the same processor but the fluidity and general performance on the One is noticeably better, even with the CPU underclocked. The hardware is my favorite of any phone available, its beautiful, sleek and feels really nice in my hand. I'd say at least go play with one before deciding. After I spent 10 minutes with one at Best Buy I was sure I'd be happy with the device.
ROM activity is increasing but honestly, with xposed framework and the available modules, a stock debloated ROM really goes a long way.
I own The HTC One, SG3, and SG4.
SG3 kicked ASS!
HTC One blow them all out the water.
Sg4 is blah and I may sell for moto x.
Thanks for all the responses it has been extremely helpful. I just checked it out from a co-worker who has it. It really is a clean device. The bloat is definitely not there like it is from the SG4. Does anyone here take a lot of pictures with the phone. How's that 4MP camera that lets in more light...

I take a lot of pictures of my kids, and with it getting cooler outside many of those pics will be indoors with less than ideal lighting. In these situations I've been very pleased with the pictures I get. Even blowing up those pictures for use as by desktop background the pics still look very good.
I bought the One before selling the S4. My two concerns about the One compared to the S4 were the camera and battery. I've been satisfied with both.

Of the competing phones I have tested extensively the LG G2 and the Droid Maxx. The G2 was a braindead phone. Whenever I pick it up I had an urge to throw it away, so that was out of the equation.
The Droid Maxx really had me torn. It had close to vanilla Android, superb build quality (this is subjective, but to me the Maxx felt much better in the hand than the One), and, most important of all, the amazing battery life. I just loved that phone, it had everything I wanted in a phone. I was pretty sure the Maxx was going to be my main phone for at least the next year.
Then the HTC One killed it in one arena: signal reception. Now we live in a fringe area of Verizon 4G coverage. Our old phone, the Gnex, absolutely struggles to hold on to the 4G signal. It would drop in and out of 4G many times in an hour, in the best reception areas we can find in the house. The 4G->3G handoff is hard, meaning all data connections gets dropped, so in reality we have to turn off LTE while at home. Both the G2 and the Droid Maxx have about the same signal quality, which is significantly better than the Gnex, but they would still drop 4G from time to time. The One however, simply blows all its competition out of the water in this aspect. It would display 4 bars(!) of LTE in most areas of the house, while the G2 and Maxx would have 2 bars. At first I thought it must be a cheap trick by HTC. The signal strength in the phone status show identical numbers across the phones, and the One just show more bars for the same signal strength. But after more than a week of extensive use on my wife's One, this phone has _never_ dropped the 4G signal in our house in that entire time! Even in the bathroom where we barely get our own wifi signal, the One would somehow miraculously hang on to one bar of LTE, and still maintain a reasonable download speed!
What magic HTC did on this phone I have no idea, but I'm sold, exchanged my Maxx for the One, and now I'm a happy camper
Yeah., over the years I have ditch my point and shoot and have been using my phones for pics and the DSLR for shots. The GNex took terrible the pics, the iPhone was a descent point and shooter. That is what I need a descent point and shoot camera.
I have an iPhone 5 for work and the One. My god, I can never look at the iPhone after using my phone for a few minutes. I know it was this huge marketing this against Apple but the screen size of the iPhone really is a HUGE negative for me.

Yeah, I used to be an SLR guy until I got my Sony RX-100 last year. I used to use it all the time, but the One is good enough that I don't use the RX-100 except for special occasions when I know I'll be taking dozens of pictures.
Coming from a camera on a phone, I'd say the One has one of the best to date. Might not be as epic as the unit on the Lumia 1020, but it definitely holds its own. I snap tons of photos, the the camera in this phone in my opinion trashes the camera in my sister in laws iPhone 5. Either way, the One is an excellent device and coming from my kickin SGS2, in more than happy. The s4 just doesn't compete in the features even though the cpu in the One is running at a slightly lower frequency. I won't even look at the s4 now. This phone stole my damn heart and VanirAOSP put the icing on my cake.

Once again with these "not much developement" comments.. You do realize having 99 copies of one rom isn't development... We have a wonderful variety of roms. Posting threads like this are likely to irritate people. If you want 50 copies of a rom get a nexus device. Follow the golden rule.. If you aren't happy running stock and never expecting it to be updated NEVER buy it. You don't buy bread for the poop you'll turn it into... Be realistic. /rant
I recently went from S3 to 5s and now to the One. I gave the 5s 2-3 solid weeks of trial before I started looking for something else. The only way possible I can explain how anyone would want an iPhone is that out of the box they want a finished product that you install music and apps on. It just seemed so limited on what you could do with it. Something as simple as copying ringtones over was a huge fiasco. Picking the keyboard you want. Etc etc.
My only complaints are the fixed buttons. Maybe I'm just so use to the s3, but the back arrow is opposite on this phone and doesn't seem as convenient with the thumb. I wish the htc logo acted as the home button as well and the home button was swapped on the other side as a menu button. In a few months, hopefully I feel differently. But, I do appreciate the galaxy nexus navigation buttons being able to be changed however you want. wish they would've done the same here.

Bye Note 3

I first used Android on the Samsung Vibrant. I then went to the S3, and finally to the Note 3.
I knew the history Samsung had with not giving updates, but I just hoped for the best.
While on the Vibrant... there were so many developers, so many options for ROMs and themes.
Now on the Note 3, it looks like it's slowly going away.
I got my Note 3 stolen in New Year on the second day of 2015, and decided to go with the Nexus 6.
The amount of development for the Nexus is unbelievable. I love it. I really enjoyed my Note 3, but I think I'll be happier with the Nexus.
I never really posted here... but I read a lot of your posts and found most of you helpful.
Take care!

I wish OP the best. I have been considering an N6 myself...but as far as N3 development being stagnant? I dunno, I'm an AOSP kinda guy myself so between AOKP and CM I have been utterly thrilled with this phone. Sure, it's no EVO4G or GS2...and neither of those hold a candle to the OG HTC Hero or OG Droid for that matter...but, really, how much development are you looking for? There have been no shortage of TW ROMs...sure, not hundreds...and there are only so many flavors AOSP necessary. Not to mention since the good ol' days (that actually sucked, in retrospect), technology is marching forward ever faster. I doubt any device will capture the developer attention for as long as those iconic phones did ever again.
I guess I just don't get it. I have never so thoroughly enjoyed a phone and not dicked with flash addiction....and this is my 12th Android phone....maybe 15th....I don't even know. Not worth counting. Between the gorgeous screen, amazing battery life, availability of solid builds of CM and AOKP and a good variety of TW ROMs I guess I just don't get it.
Either way OP, I wish you the best. I hope the grass is truly greener on your new side. I may join you there...cuz from the looks of things Samsung isn't deserving of my hard earned (hundreds of) dollars ever again. Knox is one thing, but locked bootloaders is another thing entirely...and as long as any manufacturer is offering a voluntarily unlocked bootloader I'm not going to blame the carriers, even if it is via their instigation.
PS: Throw CM12 on, set it to performance tuning and the battery life is not discernibly worse but holy crap does this thing scream.

I love my Note 3, I got my girlfriend the Nexus 6, and while I love that phone and am very tempted to buy me the white one, I just like my Note 3 enough to not upgrade. The Note 3 is a solid phone, the best I have ever had, and I've had a lot. I've never been so satisfied with an Android phone as I am with my Note 3.
The only phone I might get is the Note 4, and that is only because I am highly interested in the Gear VR, and Samsung stupidly made that thing compatible with one phone, and that is the Note 4.
It seems like the current phones aren't much more powerful than the Note 3 to really truly justify an upgrade. There are phones on the way that are more powerful than the current crop, wouldn't it be better to wait for those? The phone is still powerful, and it still holds its own more than a year later. With Lollipop(TW & AOSP) the phone is nice, I might not worry about an upgrade for some time and pay for a replacement(my screen has a hairline crack)

[Q] Am I the only one who enjoys this phone

I see post about laggy and blah blah I mean this phone isn't perfect but with some adjustments it's a bad ass phone I love it I mean I would love root but it's not a reason to return the phone or anything.. Just saying this phone is really good imho
I agree. It's just that the shortcomings are detrimental for the user experience depending on the issue.
I can see battery life being one if you're a busy person.
Touch screen will drive anyone absolutely bananas
All depends on the batch I guess
Im loving the phone, prob best I've had. Not having root is a small problem but I'll live with that. I've not had touch screen issues or over heating problems.
Its not you, people who are happy dont *****. You only hear the complainers, and there are always going to be people who expect manufactured products to be flawless with no exception or fail rate. Just not realistic. The phone is really nice, has great picture and a great camera.. I have owned several different brands and recently an S6. THere is nothing wrong with this phone. I do feel that at this current rate we may never see root, but i also find this being the first phone that would not be and end all problem for me. If you are happy with the phone, what else matters?
I love it. I do wish tap to wake and the knock code worked better, but they'll be fixed someday. They do seem to work better after rebooting, so I reboot occasionally throughout the day when I'm putting my phone away.
Once we get root and custom roms this phone will be awesome.
Be sure to block the OTA updates so the carriers can't prevent you from getting root!
The G4 is a very well balanced product. Like anything though it has its flaws and it won't please everyone, namely as we all have different likes but most important expectations.
I never expect for my phone's purchased to act like a time travelling device (although beam me up scotty that would be cool ?).
What i do expect is functionality and the G4 meets that for me. Just one thing that Google needs desperately is better optimisation between software & hardware.
Android M who knows may be the answer to our prayers.
But overall hell yeah the G4 is good ?
I think the phone is perfect in most all ways. Software can be buggy and lag at times but that will all get cleared up soon enough!
I upgraded from a Galaxy S5 and even though it isn't a huge leap in terms of performance and battery life (battery life quite the opposite, unfortunately) I enjoy my phone very much.
And as I have an international H815 I rooted it the first day I could unlock the BL. 10A was silky smooth and my only "regret" is that I actually flashed 10C. It's a bit less smooth, a bit laggier now and then. Could be an app too, though. So. all things considered I'm very happy. I don't understand why the leather back doesn't have Qi but that's a different beef ..
Great phone, great UI (though I hate having to use an app like ROM Toolbox to change font and the korean crap themes from LG are absolutely horrible).
Regarding all the threads about problems and issues .. Well, that's what XDA is mostly about. You don't need to discuss how great a phone works, you need to discuss and solve problems..
And since no one's, as far as I can understand it, developing custom roms/CM-builds for it yet all you could discuss are problems.
Does it seem like G4s have lots of issues? Not really. Considering the volumes of manufactured phones you will always have broken phones that slipped through quality control. Firmwares are tested but it's impossible to soak test/lab test a phone's software with every app in the App Store..
Not to mention issues with carriers like the retarded US carriers that disable features and sideload their own generic crapware apps and push updates like there's no tomorrow...
All the forums of all the phones I've had since I started reading XDA have looked exactly the same: Early adopters with, sometimes, premature software/firmware ***** and moan, after a while custom roms/root happen and people cheer like madmen, then ***** and moan about premature custom roms.
And the circlejerk is complete.

Autoprime discusses it here and seems to be updating the post as new information comes out.
I have the H815 rooted with TWRP and I couldn't be happier with this phone. I don't have touch screen issues, or lag issues, or camera issues, etc. Coupled with the battery and sdcard promos, it was a win/win/win for me when I bought this phone.
i love the responses why do you say we may never see root i love this device lol i need adaway!
OP: is this your first smartphone? Did you have a flip phone before?

I love my phone and have had absolutely zero issues with it
People who enjoy the phone tend to stay quiet. People who have problems post comments wondering others are experiencing the same. Its pretty much for all phones and gadgets.

I have actually been LOVING my G4. My old daily driver was the Galaxy Note Edge but then I stumbled on this fella (my first in the G-Series and second LG device) and kind of fell in love with it right off the bat.
So I ended up picking up one for a new daily driver. Right after that though I found out about the no-root issue so then I went out and picked up a couple more of them (I figure I might as well do my part as far as root goes and that will probably end with me bricking one or two of them, so better safe than sorry).
TL;DR -- Yes, I love the hell out of this phone.

I gave up my S6 Edge for this phone. Best move I have ever made on a cell phone. Absolutely love it. I had one in a good batch though. Sort of sucks that you have to get lucky to like a phone.
Same with me
