Confused with the file structure on my phone [picture] - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Can someone help my understand what's going on with my file structure?
This is what I see in CWM, but I can't access the clockworkmod folder when connected to my computer or in Android.
It seems everything related to android is within /0.
So basically, how do I transfer my CWM backups off my phone? Thanks

Use adb to pull the folder

Any reason why my phone is partitioned like this? Or is this how it is on the gnex? The cwm folder was within the android partition on my Nexus S.

Regain some storage space with "My files"

I'm running FreeSG3 and when looking through all the apps found "My files". I'm not really sure if its part of the ROM or not but I definitely did not down load it (if it is part of the ROM, thanks Clark44). Very useful and simple app. When opened it shows extSdCard and sdcard
With a few backups and lots of apps my internal storage was getting a little low. I used "My files" to move the backups to my extSdCard and have regained a good bit of internal storage back.

My files is just a simple file explorer.....you can also download more advanced ones off the market like Root Explorer or ES Explorer....and yes moving files like backups to the external SD card will give you more system space.
Absolutely! Anyone with even a little Android experience is probably familiar with the more full featured file managers ie Astro, File Manager, ES File Explorer, Root Explorer and so one. I bring "My files" up for it's shear ease in doing a simple task, moving something from internal memory to your sd card. IMO it accomplishes this task a lot easier than those others, but I still use those others also for other things, just kind of throwing this one out there for those who have not used it before
My Files comes with the stock Samsung rom, btw.
Be careful about moving say nandroid backups to your extSdCard because some versions of CWM don't have access to the external storage only internal storage.

Thanks, yeah thats kind of why I started this thread because not all recoveries or file manager type apps have access or recognize extSd cards and My files makes it so easy to move things back and forth. Anyway I use TWRP for recovery.

Go to http://www.clockworkmod.com/rommanager
Then look for "Samsung Galaxy S3 (Sprint)". Left one is Standard CWM and right one is Touch CWM. These are .img files that must be converted to .tar files to work in Odin.

Wrong. Just download mobile Odin, change the IMG name to recovery.img and flash with mobile Odin. Much easier and no computer needed.

Sdcard/0

I just flashed the new 4.2 OTA and it really messed up my Sdcard, Can't restore from backup to minco5 because it moved everything from /sdcard to /sdcard/0 . Anyone know how to disable this "feature"?

This is default behaviour now due to the multi user capabilities introduced in 4.2 as far as I can tell.

I also noticed that, I believe this is not related to multiple users feature.. Its kind of first storage.. You can see in all Linux storage are list like 0,1,2,...
To resolve this issue we have to make link in recovery.. So we have to wait clockworkmod release for 4.2

You could be right.. the "emulated" folders I note in the file system are related to how Android 4.2 is handling multi-users. Anyway.. smarter people than me are probably best to comment on this next
Try flashing a 4.1.2 rom and check your backups again..

He flashed an OTA, not AOSP. GN does not "support" multi users. It has to do with the way Google is looking at storage after implementing multi user support. You will not be able to use it on the G-Nexus OTA though. Also, Clockwork needs to be updated.
DONT update to a 4.2 ROM until Koush updates CWM.
And is there a way to remount sdcard back after such update?..

I had the same problem, but i manager to restore my backup, here is what you have to do:
1- install file manager e.g. Es filemanager..
2- go to /sdcard/0 and find clockmodwork folder
3- Long press on CLockmodwork folder then copy or cut.
4- Go back to /sdcard/ and paste.
5- now reboot to recovery and the phone will see the backup
Note that when copy the folder it will take some time, however it depends on how many backups you have.

I though the sdcard data is actually located in "/data/media/0/". "/sdcard/" is just symlink from there.

The solution is simple, took me forever to copy my backup:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995585
1. Keep the files where they are and increase the number of 0 directories every time we install a new rom.
2. Use the new Twrp and live with folder 0.
3. Move all our file from 0 folder back to sdcard with a file manager.

CWM problem

I am dealing with some issues here. I have a nandroid of CM10 from a just a couple of days ago, before I f'ed up my phone. The problem is that CWM can't seem to find its own backup?? I keep getting "Couldn't open directory", "No files found". Has anyone else had this issue??
It is the same version of CWM that I used to make the back up in the first place. Very frustrating.
is it the new version of CWM? did you move the backup off your phone then back on to it? if so, did you remember the blob folder?

Nope same problem with updating to 6.0.1.5.
There are new mounting points in 4.2 because of multi-user-support.
Main user entry point is now /sdcard/0/ folder on your internal storage, all data is moved in there. So you have to manually copy and paste your backups to fit the folder where your custom recovery is expecting those backups.

but all 3 of those points have the same data...I can't copy from legacy to /0 or obb. They all have the backups there. i can't mount sdcard in recovery though....I think the only way is to flash a 4.1 ROM and then do a restore until a recovery comes out with 4.2 mounting support. Am I correct here?

Cwr backups don't work with TWRP
Edit: sorry didn't see k786 post
Copy your /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup to /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
This is where your stuff is mounted in 4.2
After restoring you will still have problems though. All you stuff that used to be in /sdcard will now be in /sdcard/0 so many things won't work. Again copy or move all contents of /sdcard/0 to /sdcard and you are back to how it was.
I did all the copying from Terminal Emulator because file explorers could not see anything inside /data/media but it's there. Typing 'su' first and then using 'ls' in Terminal Emulator will show what is in there, so use it. Use 'cp - r' to copy the folder. Needless to say you need to be rooted for this.

Help? copying files and folders to /

Hi, i have been trying to copy folders and a few files to the root of my Samsung galaxy nexus. or * / * or where the folders such as system, sbin, sdcard are. when ever i try to do so it copy's, stays there, but when i restart my phone seems to delete its self or disappear?! please does anyone know how to fix this? thanks
First of all, what are you trying to do?
Secondly, on android, / is actually the ramdisk (nothing copied there is persistent).

well i have a script im trying to run, which involves me going into my terminal and firstly doing
Su
... then
sh test.sh (my test script)
and the only way i can get the terminal to find the directory so it runs is if i have it in the "ramdisk" which of course deletes after a reboot :/ so is their anywhere more permanent i could put it. if you get what im saying. thanks very much

Have only read the part with the commands, not the whole project. I dislike adding files to the system folders.
A solution could be a cd to change directory to the sd card and run the script from a /sdcard folder.

As you probably now, gnex doesn't have a micro sd card slot. I just have "internal storage", i watched a tutorial and did exactly like that guy.
Search youtube for "How To Load a Custom ROM on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus" i'm not allowed to post url's
Adb works in recovery, if you used fastboot to unlock the bootloader of your device you should have adb:
Code:
adb push <rom_name.zip> /sdcard/
In a terminal/CMD on your computer with your device plugged in

When you select install zip from sdcard, do you get a list of all your folders on your SD card? Do you know how to navigate to the location of your .zip? If it doesnt show up, then your either in the wrong location or its not a .zip file. Thats really the only two things it could be.
No
I don't have a list of all my folders. I'm pretty sure i'm not in the wrong location and yes,it is a zip file.
