it's broken on any ROM that has a custom recovery.
basically, as soon as you flash a customer recovery, it sets your flash counter at 1 (semi)permanently, and "Triangle Away" can't "fix" this. You must be on a stock recovery for AllCast to work, as the feature has some built-in "DRM" that won't let it function with a flash counter at anything but 0.
I got my phone, and rooted it within an hour, installing TWRP as well. I was completely stock besides the root and recovery. I had bought the TV AllCast dongle, and was freaking out that I couldn't connect, would connect for half a sec then say it was disconnecting.
If I had searched a bit first here, I would have found a few threads explaining this. So I flashed back to the stock recovery just so I could use this feature.
I'm sure at some point in the future one of our amazing devs will find a fix/"workaround" for this. Or so I hope. For now, stock is ok with me. (You can be rooted though. see my sig for how to get there.)
Just get Imedia it is better.

Hello.
I used the Toolkit to root my Note 2, and I had to use option 4 on the rooting menu, Install Custom Recovery, Install via Recovery to get it to work. I tried several times via the Odin tool and Twrp recovery, and the phone kept booting into Android Recovery instead of Twrp recovery.
I finally used Odin to flash back to stock ROM that I got here, but, along the way, even though the Toolkit was able to connect to my Note 2, I get the Hardware ID missing, and I cannot connect to it any longer like I could after I installed the initial drivers.
Anything I can do and stay rooted?
Change usb ports or restart your device. Mine did it last night and I fixed it by doing both..
I have the same problem.
Changing ports and restarting in most cases didn't help and only in few cases I managed to access files on the phone via USB.
Any other suggestion how to solve this?
don't use windows..

I was able to gain root back using the toolkit. I flashed stock rom image I believe the ROM from the factory then flashed back stock recovery. Went back in after I updated and re-rooted to flash the triangle away. Now I need to unroot and after speaking with Sprint Rep on phone and trying a few things they advised me to take it to store to let them try it. I believe ALL of my problems started when I tried to use Mobile Odin Pro to flash the latest update to LJC (should I have been on stock recovery?). It started to flash then stopped and went into CWM recovery which is the recovery that the toolkit flashed. I for some strange reason was going to flash the update from there except I didn't have it in the right place on my sd card (couldn't access it GOD I'm a Dumbass!). God help me cause I'm too stupid to even understand what side loading is let alone how to do it. If some kind soul would take pity on me and pm me I could get a handle on the differences between HTC and Samsung. Anyway need to unroot now. Oh I keep seeing in the flash counter saying 1 but I'm on stock rom with stock kernel and stock recovery how do I get it to zero. Using triangle away. Anyway to check counter with stock recovery?
OH yeah does anyone keep getting "Internal Error Code 1500" in addition to the hardware id is missing?
Thanks to everyone that takes time to help idiots like me. I promise I CAN learn.

Thank you...Unlike user: dstenc, the above procedure fixed my issue. As has been the case many times, XDA helpful users to the rescue!
 :good:
Just to report that for now I've found woraround. I've installed old drivers 1.4.103.0 and now both Kies and file access works.
Still looking for final solution with latest drivers.
Could you walk me through your fix?

I don't remember link. I googled so you might try that way.
Just FYI, even with older drivers I have sporadic Hardware ID Missing error, but far too less than with the latest version.
I'm posting this to keep it to the top of this board.
This is my second Note 2 in 2 weeks. I returned the first one because it stated Hardware ID missing, so within my first 2 weeks Sprint gave me a new one thinking that it was my phone. While at the Sprint store, and not yet rooted, we installed the unit and removed the unit 15 times to see if we could get it to have the Missing Hardware ID to pop up, it DIDN'T pop up once, so I thought I was good to go.
I came home and did the common root method that uses Galaxy Note 2 Toolbox. I IMMEDIATELY started getting the Missing Hardware ID again.
So now that we have it localized, what could be missing or creating a problem from the root procedure from the Galaxy Note Toolbox 2???
What I find really strange is that many are not experiencing this problem or they are just living with it.
I even tried the USB Switcher that appeared to install and does switch between Mass Storage and MTP, but although my PC makes the upward noise that sounds like it is installing and recognizing the USB Mass Storage, it doesn't end up recognizing it. It was ZATTA's build but he said it didn't work for his Galaxy 3 or Note 2 either.
Will anyone find a cure????
This will be no fun to have to deal with for the next 2 years.
Chime in PLEASE!!!!!! Even if it's only to insult me, I don't care if you have a cure.
Regards
Dave
if you do Google search, it's a known issue. From what I read, it's a driver issue. Some have had luck using the older Samsung USB drivers. You have downloand them, and install, and have your PC completely disconnected from the internet before plugging in your GN2 after the install. Appaarently the drivers on Microsoft's servers are bad; may be the wrong device.
I've done this, and still have the issue. I just find I don't have plug and unplug the USB cable as much.
What I have seen, the PC does connect to the GN2. It just doesn't recognize it as a storage device. It wants to use it as a modem, probably from the tethering capabilities with a USB OTG cable.
It may not be so much that it's not wide spread, but more that not everyone uses the GN2 as storage device or connects it their PC.
I dont think this is all due to Windows issue. This is what i notice before and after root.
If you have restore to Original Stock ROM, you will notice that your device doesnt encounter this issue.
If you have rooted your device Custom ROM or Flash CMW (this resulted as Binary Counter increased), you would have Hardware Missing Id issue. Somehow the MTP is not working.
If you have Flash your device with a pre rooted stock rom, there is no issue at all until you flash CMW where flashing increase counter.
How i notice this, i have root/unroot my device like 20 times since i got my device.
The issue is here is more of where Binary Counter Increase, in Windows 7 you would face Hardware ID Missing issue. Restart and connect to other USB port will not work.
Some how we need to no let the Binary Counter changed and Triangle Away is only useful if you want to return you device to original state.

Yep I think you may be on to something. Because when I rooted I tried both TWRP and CWM and then I had to go back to stock to get to apply the LJC update. Ever since I have had the chameleon error and Handsfree activation issues. Oh my counter always says 1 and I can't remove it with triangle away. I think it says custom binary yes and the counter says 1. I am using a laptop with Windows 7 and it now recognizes the device just can't stop the errors on start up.

Hi friends. Long time lurker here.
I've had many Samsung phones and many other android devices, but this is my first brick.
I had flashed the rooted SM-T217s rom, and the wifi wasn't working, so I tried to reflash it, at which point everything went wonky. I searched the forums and found some threads on bricked 217s's, but nothing specific to my situation.
The tablet went to the emergency firmware update screen, and I haven't been able to get Kies to even recognize it. I try to Odin back to the latest stock (B8) but it fails at 'Get PIT for mapping.' My google-fu tells me this is not a good thing.
Am I hosed here? What else can I try?
Thanks XDA, you're my only hope.

Okay well I fixed it.
Turns out, the problem was that I was using Odin on a VM on my Mac. I had tried to use a PC, but I think the USB controller was too old, so that failed too. I had to use Heimdall to flash each of the partitions from the B8 zip manually. It worked, and I'm back in business, though not rooted. I suppose I'll wait until there's a better way to root before I try it again.

Ok guys. Heres my deal with this TAB. Ive rooted... Unrooted. wipe wipe wipe wippty wipe . WiFi not working. Fixed it with NB8. So here now I sit with:
----NB8 Wifi works---
----TWRP-----
Yup, pathetic i know. I cant even get the supersu to flash. TWRP wont move it over to flash off external sd card. Im not hip to abd plus i heard you leave yourself wide opento visitors when using that.
Ive eye hustled a thread on here that some friends are getting back together to rock it on a custom rom so my fingers are crossed. This tab is so neglected i mayjust go get the 210r. But i really dont want to. So my question is....
Can someone please give me links to files that work with the NB8 stock firmware. Some of the links are outdated after sprint uploaded the new bootloader. We are a small community on this tab so lets stick together on this. I dont think cynogen isgoing to do anything for it. As they concentrate on thier new phone which looks pretty sweet by the way. K im done. Going to wait for help and play with this htc one s
thats been collecting dust.

Full backup of one AFTV and restore on another
It's great to see that modstore was able to clone an AFTV.
I dont understand what modstore is saying here:
modstore said:
I'm not sure if anyone has tried backing up one Fire TV and restoring to another, but I just tried it, and all seems good.
Doing the restore though, changed the registered account to that of the backup. So I'm not sure if it would have been registered properly, probably not. But I changed it to the account I wanted it registered too, and all seems good now.

Changed what registered account? Does this mean that the new AFTV was setup to have the same amazon account as the backed up AFTV before the restore took place on the new AFTV?
I really want to be able to clone. It sounds like its possible, I just want to avoid the trial and error if possible. I'm sure others are interested in the procedure too.

Yes, from what he said that the registration info went over with the backup. If you want to clone machines, then this will work.
he didn't want to clone machines, so he had to put in the correct register info on the machine he put the backup on.

There might be a way to make it trigger the initial Registration page after doing a restore of a clone. I'll add it to my list and maybe come up with a special update.zip that will make it happen.
So if you have a FTV set up with xbmc etc you can make a direct copy of it into a stock FTV, thus cloning it as said above?
I've looked around and can't seem to find what to do. I've used adb before but have never ran into this issue yet seems so silly.
When I type "su" in adb shell i get this error "system/bin/sh: su: not found"
I've googled and all I can find is reinstalling the superuser on the phone... I'm trying to unlock the boot loader

You need root first. What fw are you on? If it's a rootable version, do that first and then follow the guides for updating here.
Yea figured it out. I'm on 1.3.0 this sucks. I'm trying to sell my amazon box to get a nexus player. Amazon has no idea how to run a home media center.

Guide from AFTVNEWS.
I got recovery to work everything was fine I could reboot from recovery back to recovery again (CWM) but after I did factory reset in CWM it gets stuck on amazon logo.
The reason I did factory reset was because of Error.7 in CWM I had that few times when flashing different roms on different phones/tablets
sometimes getting older cwm or simply factory reset would help.
So now it gets stuck on Amazon logo the keyboard trick to get back into CWM does not work anymore.
Anything else I can try before I call up amazon hoping they replace it ?
I can honestly say if you followed rbox's custom recovery install guide, used his recovery image, and made sure the md5 matched, you shouldn't have had any problems.
Out of curiosity, do you have an external hard drive plugged in?

Yea I did follow instructions correctly. And no I do not only had the usb keyboard plugged in so I could get into recovery.
Almost every device I rooted w/ custom recovery gave me Error 7 tablets phone etc.. I seem to have bad luck with that error lol.
Since I was on the very last step.. flashing rom -> getting error 7 grr

I think cwm still has some issues. It works fine for installing rbox's pre-rooted ROMs, but I can't backup my ftv. It always errors out.
Was this the first time you've gone through cwm install? Did you try installing one of his custom ROMs and then got that error? Did you verify that your recovery download went okay? Check the md5 against what's listed on the site.
I know it's a lot of questions, but I'm just trying to delve deeper to see what may have caused your error.
(I'm tech support, so I've always got more questions to ask )

Yes sir everything was checked few times. Bunch of times made sure even file size is correct etc...
I did install recovery however at first when I had wrong firmware I installed via ADB SHELL then I Downgraded to unlock bootloader after I downgraded I installed recovery via adbfire I think newest version .17 however it was still the newest firmware of recovery anyway.... and yepp it was stock pre-rooted latest firmware that ends with "0" that did not require the fire tv boot menu.. but now I am thinking if I had the boot menu I could have got into recovery! so AFTVNEWS mis-lead me on this part... the bootmenu would be great on all firmwares actually.

I'm not sure about adbfire anything. I do all mine through Linux/android terminal/windows command line. The boot menu works on firmware 51.1.4.0. When it's sitting at the logo, have you tried connecting via adb, just to see if it initialized enough to poke around? (not sure if it works that way with ftv, but I'd try, regardless)

As far as I saw I could only connect via adb at least when in recovery mode.. otherwise it was a no go... anyways thanks for helping me out. I think there is no rescue in this situation by somehow fixing it. I mean just wanted to have few features like swap storage with a flash drive and have newest FW. But that's ok.
Thanks for your time!

About the possible Lollipop ROM for FireTV,is there a way to get the latest qualcomm Adreno 320 drivers like [email protected] from another device for flashing in proper FTV directories since it is meant for Lollipop?
I am hoping for the fix for Dolphin to be runnable and Reicast to no longer cause reboots,as well as better performance for things like Mupen64Plus AE.
I just purchased a unit that has TV AddOns Custom Wizzard Edition that was advertised to be rooted with the latest custom rooted firmware installed. The unit shows up as having the latest 4.0 Amazon firmware on it and yet the seller says that it's a custom image and that the unit is indeed rooted. I honestly can't tell, but Super SU won't work on the unit and I'd like to downgrade the firmware to a rootable custom version and remove what he has on it to install my more familiar standard XBMC setup to it and then lock updates.
Can someone point me to a guide for downgrading the firmware or better yet removing the entire setup so that I can configure the unit in the manner to which I am accustomed to? I'd certainly appreciate any help....I honestly do not believe this unit is rooted, but he's swearing that it is and that the latest firmware that I'm seeing on it is a custom rooted firmware. I really need help here in finding out if it really is rooted and would greatly appreciate anyone's advice on downgrading the firmware or removing the setup entirely without losing root if it is in fact rooted. I'm in the dark as to cwm since I've never worked with it....
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!
Use the Fresh Start program in TV Addons to remove all of the Custom Wizard stuff in XBMC.
Adb connect to the unit and then
Adb reboot recovery.. If cwm loads it's probably rooted as I don't think u can run stock Roms with it.. If it's on stock recovery.. Then u are on stock firmware.. Don't flash anything either way.. Just reboot the machine bacj to the fire os and Goto manage applications and uninstall the tv addons version. . Then side load xbmc.. Or kodi I guess it's called now. I always preferred not running any wizards that modify xbmc.. I like my splash screen the way it is thanks.

Thanks guys.... As I suspected it was not rooted......another eBay seller who either doesn't know what rooting is and simply uses it in his title since others do or is pulling a scam. It was his only unit....not a bulk seller so I think it's more ignorance than anything else. In any case....back it goes!
I appreciate your help... for a non rooted unit I actually like the Custom wizard xbmc add on....being pre configured makes it quick and simple to load a unit and not have to change too much to have what you want. Different story on a rooted unit.... I have a backup that loads with all the repos and shortcuts already installed. It's almost as quick as using the wizard edition and is setup to exactly what I personally want.
As always though.... it was great to get a quick and accurate response from those who know so much more about this than I.
Thank you again!

glad you got it all straightened out. you can still adb push your backup files on a clean xbmc install.. so you just sideload xbmc then adb push your backup to the correct location, i forget that exact location at the moment tho.. theres alot of good instructions on the xbmc wiki. http://kodi.wiki/view/Amazon_Fire_TV#Copying_files . the xbmc backup addon also works from what i was reading, i havent personally tried it myself.

In my house all my other units connect with no issue to include my wife's Samsung s5 non rooted.
Can anyone help me?
I'm still stock, I only rooted.

How did you root?
I used Odin v3, then patched cf auto.
No one has a solution for this problem? If I unroot, would my wifi work again?
Rooting will not bork Wifi ,unless you used the wrong model auto root, maybe?
Pp.
Try reflashing firmware
Reflashing the firmware? Like 4.4.4 or what

Yes, you can download the firmware from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s4-tmobile/general/firmwares-official-mdl-mk2-nb4-t2816508
Use Odin at least version 3.7.
Some people have found that you need to flash once, remove the battery without shutting down the phone, and then re-flash a second time for everything to take.
This should not remove any of your data, but you may want to make a Nandroid backup beforehand, since you have rooted and have a recovery installed.

Well I won't lie, for some reason I feel like lose after reading this. I am extremely out of the loop since my s2. I'll search the threads on how to do a nan backup. And I guess I'll also safe my apk n whatever else so I won't lose them. I hope this fixes my wireless issue.
Can someone be able to tell me why this happened if I only rooted?
Or should I just install a better rom than stock?

If you have TWRP or CWM recovery installed, you can boot into Recovery and there is an option is each of those to create a Backup. If you don't have either installed, and you are rooted, you can use TWRPManager or GooManager from the Play store to install them, or you can use ODIN to install them.
As to the why? If you installed the CF-Autoroot for your phone model, there should be no reason that WiFi would have stopped working. I have stock 4.4.4 on my phone and used it to root mine, and many many others have.
Also, you may want to verify your model. Use Samsung Phone Info from the Play store to verify the model, bootloader, baseband, etc.
