This question is for anyone with a Synology DiskStation NAS and a LG Optimus G: have you had issues with DS Audio over Sprint's CDMA network? Over Sprint's CDMA network I cannot stream music where I live (large city) but about 120 mi away in my hometown (much smaller city) it works just fine. I can access the music library but when I try play a track the wheel in the upper left corner of my screen keeps spinning and the track never starts. A couple things worth mentioning are that my download speeds where I live are faster than my hometown and DS Audio works fine on my HTC Evo OG at both locations. Also, Netflix and Pandora work fine on the CDMA network at both locations on the LG. DS Audio works fine over WiFi on the LG.
I have a ticket in with Synology and they're looking into it.

That is an excellent question. I'll test it out tomorrow when I'm away from home. DS audio worked fine on my evo 4g too... But the only time I've tried using it on the LGOG is at the gym where I frequently have signal issues anyway.... I'll test and get back to you.
On another note, are we technology twins? Same phones, same NAS... Lol :what:

So I can confirm I'm having the same problem. 3G won't work. It loads the library fine, but never loads or plays a song. I'm also in a large city - no LTE here yet.
Interestingly, the connection does work on wifi even using the dns address, which means it's probably something wrong with the app itself. I'll see if my friend with an HTC One X on AT&T has any better luck.
EDIT: works just fine on at&t
Let me know if I can be of any help while you're working with Synology.

Thanks for checking into that. What version of Android is the other phone you checked this on running? One thing I have speculated is that this may be an issue with 4.0.4 but I have doubts since I feel there would be more people complaining if that was the case.
DS Audio uses the native MediaPlayer (would post a link to the Android developer site but my post count is too low) to play music streams just like Pandora so I think it has something to do with their initialization since Pandora works fine over CDMA. I have sent Synology my log collected with aLogcat and the error below appears A LOT when I am trying to play a song over CDMA, but not when everything is working fine on WiFi.
W/NEXSTREAMING( 196): nexSALBody_SockRecv - select ret : 0, errno=0
I will keep you updated regarding what Synology tech support comes back with, technology twin.
So I found out how to fix this issue:
Disable the proxies all Sprint network traffic is routed through on your phone. Unfortunately, you're gonna need to get your MSL and to do that you need to contact Sprint and ask for it (the methods I found on Google don't work anymore). When I asked for it I told them I was developing a music streaming application that was having issues and I believed it was because of the proxies the internet traffic is routed through so I needed the MSL to test if that was the case. The thread below has the instructions to disable the proxies:

Anybody else having this problem? Loads up correctly and everything but won't connect to any stations.
I seem to be having the same problem also.
Me too. On my Evo, when I switched to 2.2 I had this problem. The fix was to toggle wifi while trying to start a station. That fix doesn't work on the Epic. I think this is going to require feedback to the developer.
Drat! This is one I was hoping for.

I heart radio not working for me either.
Do you have Tunein from Radio time. You should definitely check it out it has tons of stations search-able.
I'm thinking the developer has either coded it to only work on WiFi, or made a mistake in the application so it doesn't know how to use 3g or 4g networks to operate.
I use Slingbox and police scanner apps on 3g so I doubt it's an issue with the phone itself.
i had iheartradio connect to a station ONE time, ever on my epic. i've heard its a terrible app and clearchannel never fixes, updates it. and whats worse is a like a clearchannel station which cant be pulled up on tunein or other apps. bogus....
it doesnt work on wifi or 3g for me and nothing fixes. and i get stream podcasts on other apps while on 3g or wifi no problem, def the app.
I have it working WiFi only on an Epic. Strange...
My understanding is that this really an issue of a proxy server inserted by Sprint to filter our internet traffic. Instructions for removing the proxy server setting can be found in the "fix for skyfire" thread (my apologies for not posting the link)

I actually found a work around on accident. I knew that it was wifi only. My other post was my suprise with the FC issues. Ill post the work around on my site tomorrow when I'm not on my Epic (which is flashed to Cricket).
So apparently sprint thinks this is the iphone and we want our traffic filtered and/or proxied. This causes skyfire not to work with its flash video feature (and possibly other video/streaming apps, like a radio app I tried). But you can fix it and here's how (credit goes to sdx thread for the moment, will try and post link when back at pc):
##3282#
Multimedia
Input your msl (find it using adb command getprop, look for msl in readout)
Change rtsp proxy to 0.0.0.0 and rtsp proxy port to 0
Enjoy your unfiltered traffic!

you sir, are the man! ran it through, will verify the fix but this is much appreciated
awesome thank you!
iheartradio is kind of sucking on both wifi and 3g. Happens with both the Epic and Droid X. Pandora runs very smoothly though. This leads me to believe that this app isn't that good. Anyone else experience this?
If you apply the fix referenced in this thread, from the skyfire thread, it makes it work, but ya the app itself is kinda crappy, mine buffers every few min even on solid 3g

I have an older version of iHeartRadio that streams much better than the latest...
radiotime
I stopped using Iheartradio because I found radiotime which is much better in every way

Everyway except that you can't get Clearchannel Communications stations on there.
That's the only reason why I have to use iHeartRadio...

I see. I haven't been unable to find anything I want. I bet clearchannel has a lot of stations huh?
94.5 the Buzz out of Houston is all I care about lol.
Haven't really been able to find a good station. Don't live in Houston anymore... The morning show is actually pretty funny.
I am not sure if anybody is aware of this app but IMO it is one of the best apps out there and takes advantage of the "4G" speeds of the G2. Stream your entire music collection to your phone (you can also download it directly for offline listening) or to any computer you want. I have been using this since I got my G2 and it is a very very cool app.

Thanks for the post...now that I can stream my entire iTunes library the G2 experience just got a whole lot better.

Ill try it out
I like it...it's much slicker than SkyTunes, in my opinion. It also doesn't have the "stuttering when not in the app" problem that SkyTunes does (as I imagine the Android app is native).
Skytunes has potential as adobe air apps mature. Especially when air goes out on iphone (advantage of air, write once for many platforms).
If anyone has problems make sure you read the website. Most problems come from port forwarding.
I always wanted a huge microsd card. My current size of my mp3 collection is roughly 55gbs and dreamed of the day that I could carry all my music. Never have to worry about that again.
And with google getting into doing this very thing this app/service does... watch out.

I don't mean to diss SkyTunes too much, but it still feels really unfinished. I had no problems forwarding the port myself (something that I know Subsonic can do for you with uPnP, though), and I read that the update may help with the audio stuttering. That's definite progress, but Subsonic feels much more finished already.
Do any of you know what I have to do to stream music from my comp over 3g? I can stream over my wifi but on regular cell data it just trys to connect then fails.
You are going to have to look at your router settings and forward the port to your computer most likely.

I've been using this for quite some time, I tweaked the settings to even allow me to stream movies from my server as well.
I uninstalled the app because though I entered the server name, I could not get info on what username/password to use.

I have a paid slacker radio subscription. I couldn't be happier with it. Caching is awesome. Thought I'd make a thread sharing my custom station. It's awesome if you like bands like 3 doors down, Creed, Default, Shinedown, Seether, Puddle of mud, Chevelle, and Breaking Benjamin.
Here's the link http://slacker.com/r/00VYn
I like all kinds of music. Pandora or Slacker. What's Yours?
I also have a paid slacker account, my fav is Rise Against Radio...

You download hours worth of music from any station of your choose for offline listening. When offline listening you don't need a data connection and you save tons on battery because you're not pushing anything through your data connections because the music has been downloaded. If you have a paid account you can cache 25 station. Be warned it takes a long time to cache stations, so only do it when you go to bed. Just leave it downloading, I usually only do 3-5 stations. I also found it helpful to go into settings and not allow the device to update by itself when it hits a wifi connection.
Another thing is go to menu>setting>wireless & networks>wi-fi setting>menu>advance>wifi-sleep police>never>and then the home button. This now makes so your wifi connection doesn't cut off when the screen is off. You're caching doesn't get interrupted when the screen is off.
It's an awesome feature. Try it.
OP question on the caching. How many songs does it cache? Also, how long does it stay on your phone (expire?). Sounds very interesting and I would lean towards getting it if it works out how I think it does.
I've already done the wifi sleep thing, I hated that it would shut off...
Thatnks for the info on the caching, I never noticed it in the menu options...I mostly use slacker at work so this will be very useful.

I dont know for sure ive read 100 songs per station. You get to cache 25 stations. Only 4.99 a month. I've only cached 1 set of stations on my g2 music device which is not my phone and I've never had to change the songs out again so I'm pretty sure it saves 100 songs per station. You get it for free 14 day if you wanna test it out.

I tried slacker(paid) twice on my nexus one. The first time, was for a long trip down a truck route(less traffic and construction) to georgia. The second time was for a trip down to visit my wife's friend in myrtle beach.
First time: It worked well. Caching worked great. It never stopped playing the whole time. 14+ hours and it didn't stop.
Second time: It didn't work right. It wouldn't load songs. It kept skipping ahead on it's own. Caching didn't seem to work.
Even though it worked well the first time, I found that it's selections weren't nearly as accurate as pandora. I'd pick music by lil wayne, and a couple songs in it would start playing lady gaga and mariah carrey. Nothing against the two artists, but the genres don't exactly mix. In my opinion, if pandora were to incorporate caching(they've said they will not), it would be the perfect app.
I'm going to revisit slacker on my g2 and hopefully get some new results.

Make sure when your start the caching of stations your phones signal is strong and uninterrupted. Calls don't affect the WiFi signal. That may be causing it to freeze or skip. When making custom station slacker gives you a very long list of artist / bands for you to determine which to play and which not to play You also have the option to ban artist from your station... no more lady gaga.

lol no one uses last.fm anymore?
I can't get cache stations to work anymore, not sure if it was the recent Slacker app update or the G2 OTA Update. Anyone else having problems? I tried uninstalling and reinstall, but no help! I'm pissed, it was working great!

Try uninstalling the app then go into your sdcard and delete the slacker folder. Then reboot your device and do a clean install of the app, not a backed up version. It should work. Try it and let us know.
I did everything you suggested twice but still no Cache play. Finally I reinstalled a 3rd time and then I cached & refreshed 1 station over the mobile network instead of over WiFi. Right now everything seems to be working okay. I'm gonna slowly add more stations and see what happens. I'll keep you informed.
Gonna try Slacker again...
I used to use it on my MT3G and it used to stall a lot...I then started using Pandora and that worked great until recently (maybe past 4-5 months) it contantly skips songs when playing from my phone.
My music is quite diverse
Station 1: Tool, STP, Alice in Chains, Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Linkin Park, etc...
Station 2: Dropkick Murpheys, Flogging Molly, Enter the Hagis, Young Dubliners, The Cranberries, etc...
Station 3: Hank Williams Sr, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Patsy Cline, Willy Nelson, Elvis, etc...
Station 4: Lifehouse, Kutless, Thousand Foot Krutch, Haste the Day, Red, etc...
I will post my stations later this evening when I get home
I didn't see a thread about this, so just wanted to point out that there is now a Qik Video Chat app unique to T-Mobile, presumably for the MyTouch 4G. I did try it on my G2 though, and I can confirm that at least the live streaming works.
I don't have anyone to video chat with, but I have been hearing from other comments that video chats do work on the G2 as well, albeit without the front facing camera.
But for me, I think the live streaming is what is the cool thing here. Glad it works!
Check out Tango. It works and has one for iphone users too.

You can also use ustream app to broadcast.

Yeah but the ones on the market didn't give people w/o ffc the option to live stream and actually video chat, just send the video files after u made them. This one for tmobile let's single camera folks go live.

I put this on my wife's and my G2's and when you try to place a call between them, the one initiating the call appears to work, and when you click answer with the other, it kicks you out and back to whatever screen you were on before. but on the initiating phone it still looks like you are connected, the call timer is running, you see can see what you are 'broadcasting' to the other phone in the top left, but there is no voice, or video or real connection between the phones. i tried it vv both ways, my phone to hers and hers to mine.
it doesnt work.
It does work. I got to video chat with my cousin with a evo4. it worked pretty good just some audio lag but its better then i expected

did you try to mimic what jskash said? try placing the call on different phones and see how it works.
how does broadcast to web work? is it to another phone or is it leterally a website people can access when you are connected and broadcasting?
I can back up that I've tried it also with a friend in KC and it does work. It was awesome because we don't get to see eachother often and my kids have never been to her house. She walked all around the house and even showed off the dogs. I got a call and was momentarily paused until I rejected it but it immediately started back up and we continued on for about 20 minutes. The only thing was the sound on my end was a little low, I could hear her but it was a stretch if background noise cameinto play. But yeah, it does work, at least from a G2 to an evo and both ways because first she called me but I had to leave a noisey room and plug in my phone to charge, then I called her and it worked also.

it does work.. my sister has a mt4g and while i was able to see her she was able to see me since we g2 owners dont have ffc
I also tried to go from my g2 to my wifes g2. Same as other poster. Looks good until you answer and then the phone cuts out and the caller looks like they are connected but they are not. Too bad,
Has anyone figured out why gapless playback does not work for Play Music even though Google claimed to have added that as a feature?
I just want to know why I still have to clear que when switching from shuffle to not shuffle...
probably the biggest reason I don't use the app...
I have the same issue on my sprint gs3 since January or so and still hasn't been fixed.
