Galaxy Nexus GSM - Bricked. Totally. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello Guys,
Last night before going to sleep I did the usual routine, read some late-night news and then set my alarm for the morning to follow. I plugged the phone into the charger and went to sleep. Morning come the phone did not wake me up, it was simply just "turned off". I started it up, thinking it might just have had a shutdown during charging and went out to do my business in the bathroom. When I came back 15 minutes later it was still stuck at the Google Logo trying to boot up. I shut it off by pulling out the battery and head to work thinking I can solve it there.
Later at work I tried different things. I tried to use some of the toolkits made avaible for the phone to no luck. I tried using Odin to flash a standard rom onto the phone with no luck. One thing repeating itself is that whenever I try to flash a new system on to the phone, it get's stuck in the process and gives me a write error.
- Any ideas as to what might fix my phone? It's 1½-2 years old (bought 2 days after release, had it's rough life and scars to prove it, but it has never acted up like this. - And please thoroughly explain a solution to me, I'm not well versed in using ADB/Fastboot with the phone for troubleshooting and such.
Best Regards,
Desca

Use nexus toolkit and flash image stock from google

I already tried that. The process just comes to a halt and it freezes up. I then have to unplug the battery to restart the phone.+

Thanks for the tip, but the links aren't working anymore.

And I don't have his issues. I can boot up in Odin Mode + Fastbood Mode without problems.
Only thing I can't boot up in is Recovery Mode.

are you seeing a android on his back with a explanation point? that is stock recovery if thats the case. vul up and power (maybe vol down and power) will get the menu for stock recovery.

And in Odin Mode I'm just seeing a plain 2D Android with "Downloading... Do not turn off target !!" underneath.

When I'm trying to flash the phone with a new PIT and a original ROM i get a error message saying "There is no PIT partition".

Dude, uncheck "re-partition"! Don't do it ever again unless you know you really need it. I've never seen a single pit file for nexus. Only for Samsung phones (I know who manufactured gnez).

That's the bootloader. At that point, you should be able to fastboot flash a fresh image. If you can get to this, never use Odin.

I tried the OMAPFlash thing, I ended up getting stuck again.

Why are you using OMAPFlash? You're able to get to the bootloader. Use fastboot to flash a system image. If you're still having bootloops, flash a userdata image (though you will lose data at that point). If you don't know how, check the guides in the Q&A section.

More details.... what pit file are you using? Is repartition checked or unchecked?
I'm worried that you messing with omap flash might have done more harm than good
Maybe help you thro Odin if you say exactly what you've done...

Yes i know that Samsung manufactures Nexus. I mentioned that in the end. I meant Samsung phones with Samsung original firmware like Ace, Note, S-line...etc. (original tar.md5 packages and not factory images). I've never seen original Odin fw-packages for nexus either (I am aware that samsung is responsible for software updates for certain gnexus variants...but I do not mean anything diffrent than yakju/takju now). I had to create them by myself Where did you get this original pit file? Would you mind to upload it?

Sorry, misread the way you phrased it, didn't realise you were talking about the "other" models;
This pit came from another thread on XDA, can't remember where so can't thank original poster. Have used it on several occasions to "save" lost causes with re-partition. Me neither for the original odin fw packages - same as you, i make 'em myself

No problem I wasn't precise enough, thanks a lot for pit, cheers

Solved??
...from the bootloader is not hard to install a factory image. If you want ask, but look around for the documentation.
I m curious if is a problem of partition table. I have never seen before for gnex (maybe I am ignorant)

You should ONLY use OMAP Flash when you can't do anything on the device. The toolkits not working are because they are faulty and quiet honestly should never be needed on Nexus device. You can flash fastboot files with only needing the Fastboot.exe file. No SDK or experience needed. Since you screwed with the partitions its anyones guess at this point
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD

I'm only trying OMAPFlash since everything else so far has failed me. I haven't been able to flash a clean image or anything since yesterday morning. Even though I can boot the phone up in Fastboot every time I try to recover the phone, it gives me errors or gets stuck in the process. - And all this before I even tampered with partitioning and OMAPFlash.
I've more or less come to terms with the phone's eMMC chip is faulty and I need return it under warranty.
It still boots up fine in fastboot mode + odin mode, but everything I do gets an error or gets stuck in the process.

Galaxy Nexus will not go into bootloader/fastboot/ODIN/download mode.

Nothing shows up, the phone will just boot to the Google logo with the pad unlocked. No matter what button combo I use it goes to the Google logo.
Does the MTP USB driver have anything to do with it? I have tried everything to get it recognized on my PC.

I have no idea, I got the phone like this. Yes, volume down+power and up+down+power do nothing.

Bump!
The phone will power up and everything, correct? You are HOLDING the combo of Vol up/down and power for a couple of seconds right? Is there a custom ROM installed?
The phone will power on but will not go past the Google logo with the pad unlocked. I have tried every volume and power combo with, without battery, plugged in or not, it won't go anywhere. I have no idea what is installed.

You don't know what's installed...? Mmkay... did you try a different (fully charged) battery? After that, idk. Maybe let it rest w/o its battery for a few hours and try again. If not, then last resort would be a usb jib.
Yeah I bought the phone like this cheap to see if I could fix it, but I'm not having any luck. I will try the USB jig next.
Have you tried the toolkit? It has an option that says my phone won't boot to restore back to stock.
Yes, can't use the toolkit because it won't show up in adb or fastboot. In device manager it shows the driver as Samsung MTP device when on the Google logo, and as OMAP4460 when plugged in without battery (black screen).
In adb does it list your device? Can you verify you have correct drivers installed by plugging another gnex? I had issues with mine yesterday but it turned out to just be funky driver conflicts. I un installed all previous drivers and used the drivers from the toolkit and resorted to Odin to flash a stock build, then fast boot to flash cwm, and then cm9 Nightlies

Have you tried:
- Extract driver to some folder
- Disconnect phone and remove battery
- Open the device manager:
- Connect the usb to the pc with the mini connected to the phone.
- You have only a few seconds to see the omap4440 and double click, if you could not open it the first time disconnect and reconnect the usb and try again.
- Once opened update driver and select to browse the folder included in the package to install driver.
- Run the tool again..

op can't reach bootloader.
Hm when i didnt have the drivers installed for omap4440 the tools wouldnt do anything so i dont think it is the problem. I remember Reading something about a bad motherboard/Ram .

Can you get to fastboot or recovery? If so have you tried the tool kit? It will give you choices to execute if you're not to knowledgeable with fastboot commands.
Also check out this thread.

I think you took chance on the phone, but lost..
OMAP utility finds the phone fine and - it loads and and initializes eMMC driver
When loading MLO_4460_HS_PRO - it manages 65536 of 131072 bytes and hangs..
It looks like a hardware issue.
Can you go to the omap flash folder: .\OMAPFlash\Targets\Projects\tuna and there edit omap4460_tuna_hs_pro.txt:
Change
-t 36000 -p OMAP4460_TUNA_8G_HS_PRO -2
to
-t 36000 -p OMAP4460_TUNA_8G_HS_PRO -2 -rxtx_trace
and please share the results

Hi OP, did you manage to get your GNex fixed?
I'm in the same boat as you are.

[Q] Galaxy Nexus bricked, OMAP Flash? (kinda SOLVED)

Hi,
I was running stock Android 4.1 on my Galaxy Nexus and after usual rebooting yesterday I got the Android with the red triangle. I couldn't get into the recovery, only into Download Mode. I came here to fix it, tried to flash a stock rom with Odin but it didn't work. On booting it always got stuck at the Google logo for some hours.
I then followed this Thread ([HOW-TO] [GSM & CDMA] Return to stock for ALL Galaxy Nexus phones (latest JOP40D)). Here is the log from it:

I waited for the device to reboot (and to rebuild Dalvik Cache). It had an black screen all the time and 2 hours later I tried to reboot after pulling out the battery. Now it woun't even boot into Download Mode or Recovery Mode, the screen just stays black. I've searched the xda-forum and found that I should try OMAP Flash.
I found this Thread ([SOLVED]Nexus brick. OMAP Flash Tutorial in post 10) with a Link to this file (OMAPFlash_1229_2ndlastt.rar | 12.8 MB). The passwort is
Code:
dldteam
in case anyone stumping across this.
There were also some instructions:
For people that might encounter the same.
download https://rapidshare.com/files/1168981...Flash_tuna.zip and unpack the zip on desktop or w/e.
now when your omap4440 is recognized by device manager quickly double click and install drivers(you have about 2 seconds) select search drivers on pc and select desktop(drivers are in the above download.
When thr drivers are installed run the *.bat file in the download
after that u can get into download mode and odin flash a stock rom.
Click to collapse
So following these instructions, I installed the drivers nd ran the .bat file it output the following:
Code:

Press any key to continue . . .
So what does that mean? What to do next? Is there still hope?
EDIT: see below for how I fixed it
Okay, so I looked at the file names and the file I downloaded is the following:
Code:
OMAPFlash_1229_2ndlastt
with
Code:
28.12.2011 15:12 649 omap4430hs_espresso_1200MHZ.bat
and this was kind of strange because the device is listed in the device manager as OMAP4440 and the .bat file is listed as OMAP4430 so I googled a little and found this file (OMAPFlash_tuna.zip)
Code:
www(DOT)dropbox(DOT)com/s/gzcu9fpwwz55u7l/OMAPFlash_tuna.zip
Inside this .zip lies a .bat file named
Code:
omap4460_tuna_hs_pro.bat
which I ran and the output was different this time:
Code:

After that the phone unplugged and replugged itself as OMAP4440 every 2 seconds. I inserted the battery and it boots into fastboot now.
Code:

Though I'm not sure what to flash now. Any help?
Ok, this time I followed this Thread ([GUIDE] Flashing a Factory Image with fastboot / return to stock). The output is as follows:

And after some googling I found this Thread (unable to wipe, factory reset or flash rom cwm or fastboot) which seems to be what I got into. I started from stock rom without any modifications and now I can't write to /system anymore. As in the Thread has been stated the NAND chip seems to be faulty.
Progress?
Hey did you get anywhere with this?
I think I damaged some partitions on my Nexus Q, and was going to try OMAPFlash to fix them.

Hey,
The OMAP Flash worked. I can boot now into Fastboot. But I am not able to flash any ROM.
I didn't try after though. I want to send it to repair but still waiting for a result from someone else.

Code:
C:\Users\Lmbda>fastboot devices
0149A4[...] fastboot
Though I'm not sure what to flash now. Any help?

Hey bud, i'm experiencing similar problems and want to do this, however the phone was fine before hand and i've the lock screen before it went black, however i need to save the data URGENTLY. Did this delete your personal data or just patch system files to get it to boot?

Hey mate, I'm not sure since some other step could have deleted everything but some did. I guess when you do a OMAP flash everything is too late anyway but you can still try to save your data.

Cheers bud, i'm not going to take this step for now, i'll narrow down my such as fine as i can before resorting to this, although i believe you're 100% correct, it'd be great if someone could provide any more info on it for future readers. Thanks again. :good:
AFAIK, the drivers installed properly, and the bat file succeeded (i got the same output as you).
But I still can't boot into odin or fastboot. Idk what else i can do?
Galaxy Nexus Bricked (OMAPFlash error)
My Galaxy Nexus is also bricked but it is seen in the DevMgr as OMAP4440 for like 2 seconds before disconnecting. I managed to update the driver and now it is seen as OMAP4460 in the DevMgr and I have proceeded to use OMAPFlash_tuna. I have downloaded the drivers correctly this is the output I get when I run the batch file... It just hangs on the eMMC download driver part. Has anyone had this issue or could anyone shed some light on a solution.
Thanks!

[Q] Stock Nexus wont boot - but I can get OMAP4440

Hi,
Yesterday my stock nexus died suddenly. It had 16% charge, and wasnt dropped, immersed in water etc. Its unlocked, not rooted, and running Jelly Bean 4.2.something.
Ive swapped the battery (I have 2), and it wont boot. The USB cable is fine, and Ive had it on charge etc.
I can occasionally get a connection in my Windows 7 VM, where the device is identified as OMAP4440, but im unsure how to proceed from here in getting it recovered.
I dont get any option on screen to use recovery mode etc as i dont get anything on screen. (Im sure the screen is fine - theres no damage etc and it was in my hand when it died).
I have a MAC and windows (via VM), so am flexible on boot options.
All help gratefully received.
Can you even get into fastboot?
Hold (VOL UP) + (VOL DOWN) + POWER
Until you get you get a vibration.

No - ive tried various combinations. Ive had intermittent success just holding the power button and getting the OMAP notification.

Problem: FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG

Hi all,
I've got a normal I9250 Gnex phone from a friend with some starting problems. Everything was fine so far, bootloader has never been unlocked and no custom things were installed.
Now, every time when phone is started it will load into fastboot mode with an error "FASTBOOT MODE - NO BOOT OR RECOVERY IMG". Bootloader LOCKED.
The only thing I can do so far is to reload the bootloader again or to switch phone off. When phone is off I can boot into Odin by pushing Vol. down + Power. This is all I can do.
When I connect the phone to the PC the phone is recognized in bootloader as well as Odin. So PC drivers are installed correctly.
When I try to get bootloader unlock with adb fastboot oem unlock I get a message on phone where I can unlock bootloader. But when i select YES and push Powerbutton the phone hangs up.
Can someome help me?

It seems phone will stuck at this. The emmc was updated before successfully.
Don't know what this could mean now...

Yes and it worked sucessfully everytime for some tar files. Got no errors.
But when phone reboots I saw lots of thin white lines on the screen, no boot so far. No reaction. The only thing i could do is to pull battery out.
Edit: For example I also tried these restore stock packages from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2065470 and other files who make full flash of bootloader etc. and never received an error. Only boot up ends immediatelly in white lines.
May be broken chip or something with corrupt partitions!?
