Wifi stuck in obtaining ip address - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi..
Just installed Omega 7.4 ROM, but happened with wifi problem which getting stuck in obtaining ip address..
Tried WanamLite also the same.. Probably it's becaused of JellyBean 4.1.2 caused this problem.
Downgrading to official ROM, the problem dissapeared..
Anyone suffering the same things ?

You're not alone. There is a thread on the same issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2044249
Unfortunately so far there isn't a solution and the only commonality at this point seems to be 4.1.2.

Ok thanks for your reply..
I will revert to stock ROM 4.1.1 as 4.1.2 has some bugs.

Sometimes my pc gets sick at obtaining ip address. A quick reboot of router solved it. No harm trying.
Sent From my Samsung Note 2 GT-N7100

this is not related router problem.. after flash back to stock rom, wifi can connect successfully.. it's the kind of 4.1.2 bugs. nobody can solve this ?

i was also frustrated with this problem on my newly bought galaxy note 2...
my friend told me one setting to change and now wifi works perfectly fine...
you just have to
1 dial *#0011#
2 some settings page will popup
3 press the menu key
4 select wifi
5 turn off wifi power saver mode by simply tapping on the button which says"on"
just these few steps and no problem at all

Avoided poor internet connection

It started today. Everytime I try to connect to my WiFi connection, it goes in a loop of connecting and disconnecting and finally it says "Avoided poor internet connection". After I click connect, the signal drops from maximum to 1 bar. I'm on Arconium ICS, but I've been using CM9 before and I had the same problem (that's why I switched to Arconium). This issue seems to be present in all the ICS ROMs. Any idea to fix it?

There is another solution made by Mike Duskis at android.stackexchange.com/questions/22848/what-does-avoided-poor-internet-connection-mean (xda forums won't let me post the whole link). The solution involves deleting the files inside folder /data/misc/dhcp
Assign Fixed IP address
Hey i had the same problem on both Stock Rom and CM9...i did delete the files in the DHCP folder...but the problem kept showing up every few days....but i solved it completely by assigning a fixed IP address to the network...on both the router and phone
so this is it

Turn off WiFi setting
What has worked on several of my android devices and my Win 8 computer is:
go to "Settings" and turn off the wifi. Wait 30 seconds.
Turn it back on and most devices will quickly connect.
A simple fix for the devices in my house. Good luck!

[Q] Wifi Authentication error occured

I was on stock image and everything was just fine.
Then I flashed Omega 8.0(4.1.2 base) and whenever I try to connect to Wifi with WPA-PSK or WPA-PSK2 i get authentication error occured whereas my other mobile phones and laptops are connecting to it without any problem.
To remedy the problem I reverted back to stock but the problem still exists.
Any suggestions ?
Looks like Galaxy S 3 user were facing similar issues as well as Nexus users and came up with a patch for PSK encryption.
The same issue is raised in Omega forum , [ ROM ][ LJ2 4.1.2 ]◥███◣ CriskeloRom NOTE II V04.1 forum and Q\A section several times.
But still no one wants to touch it or try to find a solution to it.
This is SAD.
Also Redpill v.0.9 had the same issue , hwta i do not understand is why I am getting this in stock version.
Trying to do a factory default to see if it helps.
Everyone is ignoring this question like Plague.
I wonder why .
Same here
Yesterday I updated my Note II to 4.1.2 (stock) and since then I cannot connect to internet. Same message all the time: getting ip-address and after that it says I have a poor connection.
I have been all over the internet ofcourse but I haven't read 1 answer anywhere.
I calles Samsung Netherlands and they adviced me to reset to factory settings, which I had already done of course. As a last resort they adviced me to go to a service center to get a new mirror. They would not be surprised if the phone would have to be sent fot factory repair.
That is something I try to avoid obviously.
For Dutch members: I am on KPN.
Found fix for me, maybe you to
Would not connect to my wireless router until I changed my router to use G only. I had originally set to N only. So take your router off N, and use G only.
Same problem here. At first i thought i hadnt configured router yet. But a friend of mine with a Galaxy Tab easily connected without any Error message. WTF>
Omega 8.0 with stock kernel.

I fixed my wifi issue by flashing perseus kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927852
Simply after flashing, i tried connecting again and Voila! Connected~!
And the net is working fine!
So i suggest you try that and report back how it panned out for you
Cheers!
Stock rom for now
I'm on stock rom for now, still get authenication error when I put router in N mode only, switch it to G, and back to internet for me.

perseus kernel didn´t help me....
Router Settings changed to 802.11g didn´t help me ..
A interesting thing is, that there are positions in the room, where i can get a connection..
If i am right next to the router, i don´t get a authentication error .
Seems like somehow it get´s a very poor wifi signal,
but i am 100% sure its not a router problem. It worked very good in 3
different locations with three different routers, but now i have this problem
at every location it worked before. All routers have not been changed !

tried it yesterday, still the same problem..
If I install PhoeniX ROM I have the same problem; when I try to connect to my wifi, it says "authentication error occurred". But I only get it with Phoenix. If I change ROMs (TW or AOSP) again, the problem goes away. It's a pity, because I really like the look of Pheonix, and want to try it out. Anyone know how I can test to see what's causing the error?
My problem with the wifi authentication error in PheoniX appears to be related to the "Net Speed Tweaks" option in the installation. Installing the ROM without selecting this tweak solved my problem.

8.4 Tab S Forgets WiFi Networks On Reboot

I'm on stock, rooted odex. I believe the issue happened after I rooted. On boot, it forgets all previously connected WiFi networks. The only mods I've flashed was the 4-way boot (which didn't work since I have CWM and not TWRP). I've tried deleting the dhcp files in the dhcp folder and the wpa files in the etc/wifi folder. Neither worked.
Anyone else having this issue?
Edit: Factory wipe didn't rectify the issue. Guess I'll ODIN back to stock. Hopefully this is a hardware issue.
Strange.....mine works fine, rebooted numerous times.

Figured out the issue. I mistakenly flashed the T800 autoroot instead of the T700 autoroot.
Hi
I am stepping in on this thread, because I encounter this issue.
I just rooted by Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (LTE) - T705 and I followed this site http://theunlockr.com/2014/08/09/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-tab-s-8-4-lte/, used as instructed CF_AutoRoot_Port_T700_BeansTown106.tar with Odin3 v1.85 .
- when rebooted the wifi forgets the password, (as long as you dont reboot the wifi is okay, and i can connect to other network and connect back to the original wifi.)
Do anybody knows how to fix this issue?

I think you have to change some sort of file to something to make it remeber it. I cant remeber what the fix was but it was somewhere in the cfautoroot fourm.

HI,
Consider also using Skyhigh Kernel, it fixes your issue.

My nonrooted Tab S forgets WiFi on reboot and when I switch WiFi off and then on.
I found that this probably is a KitKat bug (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2685519)
If you are rooted then this is what fixed it for me.

Unfortunately I have no root, so I flashed the newest firmware (T705XXU1ANH1 – XEH from France) and it fixed Wi-Fi
So, I using mine tab with and 6 on the latest image from Brazil.
It is rooted and with TWRP.
It doesn't save wifi networks. If I turn wifi on and of it looses everything.
Just to be clear, it had this problem before I installed TWRP. It took me quite some time to notice the problem so I don't know if it is related with the root method.
I even flashed a custom kernel, but still no luck.
Does any one know of a solution for this issue on Android 6? Stok?
Thanks

Note 2 WIFI not turning on (ND3 Bootloader)

I am having issues with turning on WIFI in my Rooted Galaxy Note 2 GT-N7100.
Background: After facing various slow down and WiFi drop issues with my Stock 4.3 ROM decided to Root and install custom ROM. Rooted and Installed C-ROM 7.1 on device. Everything was working fine initially but after few days WIFI signals just drop and after that it just wont start. Again flashed and installed DN3 V5.2 LIte ROM,
Problem: Still WIFI wont start, it starts sometime after reboot but keeps scanning and can not detect any WiFi signal and after few minutes it wont start at all.
Solution Tried:
1. Tried Dr. Ketan WIFI Fix multiple times, still no solution
2. Can not downgrade Bootloader to MJ5 because its already on ND3.
3. Tried multiple modems (ND1, ND2 and ND3), no help, getting strong 3G signal but WiFi just wont start.
Current Phone Config:
Device: Samsung Galaxy Note || GT-N7100
Android: 4.4.2
Boot Loader Version: N7100XXUFND3
Kernel: Linux
Kernel Version: 3.0.31DN3
I am not an expert, so please pardon if my question is not clear. Any help will be appreciated. I am OK if i have to unroot or complete wipe my device.
Hardware Problem!?
Looks like something is wired with phone WiFi hardware. After flashing ND2 modem WiFi actually started to work, but stays connected only when signal strength is very high, as soon as signal goes low it drops the connection and never connects again until and unless I reboot the device or go to Airplane mode and come back.
Any suggestion in this regard is welcome otherwise I have accepted this problem as Hardware problem rather then software problem and going to live with it till the time get some good deal for the device.
Exact same problem. but no solution so far.

Android: 4.4.4 (just upgraded this morning but still no luck)

Just an update, I've followed some comments below the video and now my wifi works like a charm.
It seems that the note II housing was the cause, hope it might help you too.
