Hey guys,
I'm trying to get the phone to display the messages when I'm replying in landscape. Currently, if I rotate the screen to landscape, it will show me the messages from that contact. When I press in the message field to reply the landscape keyboard will pop up and the reply message box will take up the entire screen. I'd like to be able to reply and still see the messages from the contact. I've tried Go SMS Pro and Handsent and they both do the same thing so I'm sure the setting is a global setting in the phone, I just can't figure out where it is.....does anyone know?
I attached 2 screen shots of what it looks like in portrait and landscape. I'd like to get landscape to behave like portrait somehow....
Thanks!
I hate that also

so i have been using g config to try to control what apps my phone rotates the screen for. i have removed everything from the g config list that has i think out could be but the screen continues to rotate as there is a phone call coming on, this causes the thing screen to rotate as I bring the phone our of my pocket and it often is in the middle of rotating when I try to answer and it often has a hard time hitting th eanswerbutton while on transition.
anyone know of a way to keep the phone to stop rotating?
thanks,
jeff

So when I open Gconfig, the only apps that are set to rotate are:
skyfire
iGuidance
both my mail accounts
sms/mms
IE6
Album
Calculator
Opera
I noticed that on my Wife's phone that has the official Tmo rom does not do this.
Thanks, any other ideas?
remove anything with "dialog" youll loose email and text messaging rotation. but they all use the same window name.

Thanks Dude! The only thing that said Dialog was the sms/mms. I deleted that and then reset up the sms/mms and the phone app does not rotate anymore!!
Outstanding!!
When I try to respond to a received SMS, sometimes I don't get a cursor to be able to start typing. I have to close the messaging tab and reopen it and then usually the cursor appears. Does anyone else have this issue.
if your using sense, then yes i have the same problem. maybe. if your keyboard is already out when you open the message it wont have a curser. all you have to do is tap the white box where yo type and it SHOULD be fine
It's more serious than that for me.
Sometimes the area where you are supposed to type is shrunk down to about half it's normal height, the messaging app doesn't scroll down to the most recent message in the thread, and there is no cursor to start typing. I'm using the stock at&t rom minus the bloat. I love this phone except this one quirk. I mostly use my phone for texting and every other time I receive a text it seems like I have to close out and reopen it. Very annoying problem.

Not to throw my 2c in but I just realized something on my Tilt2 when a msg txt comes in for me to reply to I dont get a cursor in the box either, but you can start typing without tapping the box or waiting for the cursor.
Recently been playing around with the MAX MANILLA rom just installed a few days ago. Tried playing around with my registry learning to fix some problems.
Usually I txt through TOUCH FLO 3D and the problem is. If i was to send a txt message, it won't show up on the screen, I would have to refresh my screen to another section and come back to see my txt message.
Any tweaking suggestions?
Thanks.
I keep my Note 2 docked in my car in landscape mode. When someone calls me, it doesn't display the incoming call screen in landscape mode.
Can this be configured? If not, are there any dialer replacements I can look at as a work around? This is part of touchwiz so I'm not sure if I can even replace it.

go dialer is just that, a dialer. it will not effect the incoming call screen, incall screen, or the outgoing call screen. this is unfortunate but true. however, i feel very confident enabling landscape for the dialer/incall screen is a simple value change in some random xml file in some random place on the phones file system lol. now its just a matter of finding someone who knows which xml and what value.
Whatever, I have go Dialer and I can answer calls in landscape. Na na na boo boo, stick your head in doo doo

I've been searching for a solution to this problem for a while. Unfortunately, this is not the solution. The dialer / contacts screen are in landscape, but the actual in-call screen always reverts to profile view. This is just the same as stock. Go Dialer does not fix this problem.
LittleRedDot, if this works for you, can you please post a screenshot and let us know some other information about how you made this happen? Are you stock? If not, what rom are you using? Do you have any other rotation control apps you're using?
The only app I've seen that attempts to fix this is Ultimate Rotation Control. It DOES rotate the in-call screen to landscape, but forces the call buttons to cover 90% of the screen so you can't see caller ID or use the dial pad in-call.
- It really is frustrating...

I have to say - this one thing makes me furious with Samsung and their attention to detail. If y do any amount of driving and have every used CarHome by google you would understand how frustrating this is. Anyone find a way to make sure the in-call screen remains in landscape mode during the call?
Second question - anyone get CarHome to work correctly on the S3?
Maybe try Ultimate Scree Rotation and set the one-handed operation "Keypad & in-call buttons" setting on. Not sure if it would work, but worth a shot.
Please check out my thread below on this issue, as we found a solution a while back. My buddy Samurai was able to resolve this with some SecPhone.apk (your phone app) editing with a decompiler, and now it works beautifully. Photo shows up on the left with all your call buttons on the right. It's a bit of a pain to do if you're not familiar with decompiling/recompiling your phone's apk files, but this mod works perfectly.

Rotation Locker
I found a solution that will switch to landscape mode for incoming and outgoing call.
Incoming call and outgoing call's Portrait or Landscape setting is referred by using Home Screen's Portrait or Landscape value, so it will go into "Landscape mode" for incoming and outgoing call if you can rotate the Home Screen into "Landscape mode"!
So, "Rotation Locker" App can do it!, please download it via below link:

Hello every one!
I have a very strange problem on my device with the settings under the stock SMS application on my note 2. The phone is fully stock, no root nothing.
In the settings of the SMS application i have the 'Enable split view on landscape screen' selected. But i cant seem to get the setting to actually work.
Before i used to be able to turn the phone into landscape mode and the screen would half into a list of threads on the left and a reading\review pane on the right to see the messages for a thread or contact. Now it seem that the setting doesnt seem to work at all!
The phone used to also do this when i was using the gmail app but has stopped suddenly and has really baffled me!
just to be clear the phone does switch into landscape mode as required but the setting 'enable split view on landscape view' doesnt take effect at all within the SMS settings.Im just left with a list of sms threads which i have to open to see rather than review in the right side.
i have trawled the net to no avail! couldn't find any answers on this particular issue.
By the way i have used the site religiously over the past few years without having the need to even post or even join up! what a brilliant resource. keep up the good work guys!
Anyone else have the same problem??
The attached screenshot shows what Im talking about. See the Amazon message goes off screen? Is there an app or anything I can do with root to make the notifications scroll?
I keep having titanium backup network errors but the notification goes off screen and I can't read it! I don't know where to access the notifications for that app or any other to help me trouble shoot. This seems like a really stupid miss on Google's part. I'd love for these to scroll. Sideways so you could read the whole notification.
Edit: unable to upload pic now but I think everyone gets the point.
Turn on auto rotate and you might be able to read the whole message in landscape.

Already tried that and it didn't work. Notification is too long. I changed the system text to the smallest setting too. I got a few more letters with these changes but not enough to shed light on what I need to know.
