The volume buttons do not work, any one know how to get these working?
Cheers
Nope the volume buttons don't work. The only reference I've found to that is from the description of the "Headset Button" app saying that the iphone volume buttons are not supported by the "Android framework", no more details than that.
There was half a furore a couple of years ago where it was claimed that Apple added a special encrypted chip to the ipods so that they can licence the headphone buttons technology. Result is that the volume buttons can only be used by ipods/iphones... I don't think it was ever confirmed.
I still don't get it though. There has to be some sort of signal that can be detected by the phone when the volume buttons are pressed. Can someone explain how can that be prevented? Or is it a matter of software update Android-side?
Aside from the volume controls, what do you think of call quality on the iPhone headset winwiz? I've tried several headsets now but I still can't find one that works well.

Logcat doesn't show any usable interactions when volume buttons are pressed...

True - I've just checked in catlog and it just doesn't register.
I don't understand how apple managed to lock this down. A signal is a signal. Is it just a matter of bios upgrade?
It would be useful to at least get the hands on the whitepaper/specs that are given to the iphone headset makers. Maybe there is a way that we can hack the phone to read these signals.
Why? Apple headphones are terrible.

Try and keep up. We want iPhone headsets from decent manufacturers to work properly...
HELLO from South Korea!
I just bought my GN this week.
The bundle earphones of GN was the same as those bundled in my GT 10.1. There are no volume buttons on the earphones. But the bundled earphone of Galaxy R Style had volume buttons. When I plugged it into a Galaxy S2, the volume control also worked!
Now, I plugged it into my GN, but the volume up/down was behaving like previous/next track. How can I make it recognise the volume buttons as volume buttons?
Since it acts like prev/next, that means the GN hardware recognises the signal. The only thing required is probably to change the OS's settings. Maybe keycode.
Please help me. I really want to control volume with the earphone when I am in a crowded bus.
The bundled earphones of Galaxy R has volume up/down buttons. The button worked with Galaxy S2. But when I connected it to my GN, it worked as Prev/Next Track.
Since it means that the hardware is recognising the signal, all I would have to to do is to modify the software so that pressing that button is recognised as 'volume up' instead of 'Prev'. I know there is a keyboard map in /system/usr/.... I tried to modify one but I did not know which one.
Can you tell me where I should modify?

Or it would be great if someone can just let me know earphones with volume controls that works with GN.
maybe /system/usr/keylayout/sec_jack.kl, and maybe AVRCP.kl, then /system/usr/keychars/ I don't know does those files need editing...
My budget is around $20-$30, I need mic and volume up/down buttons, I live in Canada/ON. I need the buttons to work with nexus 5.
thank you.
I'm trying to use my old S7 headphones with my new S9.
The play/skip button works fine, but Volume UP button causes a Volume DOWN event, and Volume Down button causes some weird selection of the first tappable item on the screen!
What the heck?
Any fix for this?
