Link: Dualboot CM9-on-EMMC for Sprint SGS3
The CM developers are rapidly fixing bugs in the CM9 nightly builds, however it might be a while before CM9 is dependable as a daily driver. Thus Team Epic has created this toolkit of CM9-on-EMMC and FakeCWM to allow both developers and testers to rapidly test standard CM9 .zip's. The phone's standard ROM and kernel are intact so you have a stable ROM to fallback on.
The alternate ROM is stored in /sdcard/multiboot/CM9 of the "internal sdcard" storage. Booting the alternate ROM is temporary. Reboot the phone to return to the standard ROM.
FakeCWM Recovery is used to install, upgrade, and manage CM9-on-EMMC.
If there is demand, we can adapt this CM9-on-EMMC method for other SGS3 LTE variants.
Follow Sprint SGS3 CM on Google+ for the latest development news relevant to this phone.

Unclear. It might only work with CWM that has a kexec enabled kernel.

That's what I was thinking. Ah well, it'll be worth using whatever recovery necessary to have the ability to dual boot!
EDIT: Got it up and running. Very nice! Thanks again!
EDIT 2: While restoring from titanium backup the app keeps freezing. I went to the Play store to try and download the apps that wouldn't restore and received an error message saying there was insufficient space. Can you make the data.img larger?
This is BAD @SS
Awesome!
*ninja edit: THNX to the kexec tools above, this CM9 is purring along nicely!
Gr8 set of instructions, no major hiccups so far......SMS/data/phone/email/play$tore/downloads/camera/[email protected], feels good to me!
fun fun fun...........really awesome bit o'
work w/ this, bbelos + mkasick, looking forward to running this awhile as it appears to be pretty solid for a first release on the S3!
just awesome sauce!

mlin, looking at your avatar, I keep thinking/hoping you'll say, "excelleeent" But no, in all seriousness dualboot is excellent! I can't wait to try it.
Not using this, but very cool.
Really cool cant wait for it to be my daily rom!!!
This is really cool, but IMO the nightly is already mature enough to be used as a daily as long as you can handle a few quirks. Way more stable than some alpha/beta stuff I've used before -- even roms based on stock (which is really sad when you think about it.) Amazing how much progress Team Epic has made so far!

Agreed, running good for past few hours, well worth it for its safe kexec nature, super responsible approach to testing as well.

I put the setup zip in root of internal sd. Flashed it. Flashed boot into fake cwm. But it did didn't reboot into red cwm. Is this supposed to to happen automatically? Did I do something wrong?

I had the same problem. Even though I was running a 5+ CWM recovery, it wouldnt work for me. I just flashed the CWM recovery referenced at the beginning of the guide. After flashing it, it worked just fine. Give it a try.

Another thing you can try if fake Red CWM isn't auto-booting: reboot to system, power off + reboot to CWMv5.......flash multi boot file, it'll show the files already configured, then flash fake Red CWM.
Now you can flash your CM9 Nightly (flash GApps0429.zip immediately after for best results.)

You'll notice the Fakecwm has a reduced menu for your safety. This includes no backups/restores until we can properly implement the auto mounting/unmounting of the true internal sdcard.
I have heard that there is a new CWM recovery fr the Samsung Epic, is this true? could it be?
Right now I'm on 5.0.0.7 and as far as I know its the latest and greatest. Am I right or am I a total dummy?

CWM 6 allows Nandroid on mine so not sure why your having problems.
But TWRP 2.2 Is better IMO not sure if its available for the Epic but on the NS4G its really good has on board keyboard control while in TWRP.

CWM6? Yes, i've used that as well on CM9 & 10. As for the Epic(my daily), i'd like to know if anyone knows where I can find a later version than v5.0.2.7 ?
I've seen v5.5.0.4, but I believe that isn't for the Epic.
What I like about the newer versions of CWM is auto-scroll. (when you just hold down/up on the volume button and away you go, VS "click-click-click-click. UGH" )
Also, Im currently on (my fav) The People's Rom (TPR). I am hoping any newer version of CWM will work with the Epic and the rom.
Feedback will be awarded with thank you's nd smileys

Isn't CWM 6 exclusive to AOSP based roms, like CM or MIUI?
5.0.2.7 is a work of art, many many thanks, DRockstar (wherever you are!)
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
Heck yeah 5.0.2.7 is the latest and greatest. TWRP recovery is pretty good too, but I think that is only exclusive to some newer Roms. CWM 5.0.2.7 is about your best bet, unless you like CWM's older recovery versions but I would not recommend that.
And just another Thank you to DRockstar, awesome job! I've been using it for all different kinds of things and I haven't had one problem.

Hello to all. Quick story, looking to get the Nexus 4. Got my hands on a SII to test T mobiles network. Rooted it last night and put CWM on it. For some reason I can't flash Cyanogenmod or Liquid Jelly. They both stay on the boot animation. I've rooted my Evo LTE and my Nexus 7 so I'm not a complete noob. Thanks for any and all help. I'm at work but I will check back throughout the day.

Thanks I prefer TWRP. I just didn't know if it was a viable option. It seems like the devs for the SII Roms prefer cwm for some reason. I did full wipe by the way. Thanks again.

Just so you know it may be a preference but does not mean the alternate TWRP does not work just fine. I would suggest you going with it and you have to understand its just a recovery and honestly both should work fine and the same. Unfortunately it seems that TWRP does some things with less stress than CWM. A lil more reading up on this in the various threads and you will probably find the debates about this.
also which CWM are you using if 5.0.2.7 you have to use wipes if you are using the newer versions no wipes are needed. TWRP it does not matter

Yes I looked at the sticker to make sure, as well as the about phone screen.
I just got this new SG3 and was using Rootbox on my last one which I really liked. I noticed they use TWRP in their update options so I figured I would try with this new g3. First time trying TWRP downloaded the latest from their blog openrecovery-twrp-2.4.3.0-d2att.tar. I really like the looks & feel but am having nothing but trouble with flashing roms. Can some one tell me why I should not go back to CWM?

Its probably me but I just couldn't get it to work. I tried to flash from goomanager the right rom & gapps and I also tried from recovery. I didn't think it worked, I didn't see any confirmation of install, so I got scared and restored.
I have since done it with CWM and am ok. Thanks for the response anyway.
How did you end up flashing CWM back over TWRP? I too am having issue and would like to flash back CWM, but can't find a way how to. No flashable .tar file as far as I can find, and ROM manager doesn't list me the option to flash CWM.
Initially had the cant mount problem with CWM:
New recoveries for new phones that won't mount storage!!

Starting new thread for the other big problem:
After getting either TRRP or CWM on and mounting and backup/restoring properly flashed stable CM10.1 (and a ton of other releases) along with CARBON cannot boot past the Samsung Galaxy SIII splash screen.
What did Sprint do here to screw us out of ditching their stock build?!?!

I flashed it and instead of hanging on the little blue man my phone hung on the black screen. I tried the nightly that a few others had working and I cant even get that one to boot.
I've been able to get several older ROMS to work fine. So long as they are 4.2.1 ROMs there is a chance it will work. I've been unable to get any 4.2.2 or higher ROM to work.

Do they flash correctly? in CWM or TWRP? Very weird. It's practice to do Factory Reset, Clear Cache, Clear D Cache, Fix Permissions, then install your Rom.
That is what your doing? Then rebooting into it? and you get stuck on black screen?

I am doing the same things and getting the same result. I am seriously considering selling this s3 and buying an older one.
Any progress?
Just checking to see if any progress was made to get past the hanging blue man samsung screen? I would love to put cyanogen 10.2 on my wifes newer gs3. Thanks again.
The newer s3's have a safeguard in place which will not allow you to mount storage in recovery. You need a modded recovery for the newer devices(several threads) and this will allow you to flash Touchwiz ROMs only AOSP ROMs are still not working on these newer devices.
