There are several ways to flash your android device. You can use Odin, ADB / fast boot and custom recovery to flash different types of files to your android.
Odin - Odin is used for flashing .tar or img files on the Samsung devices. tar and img files are usually complete roms, kernels or recovery's. Odin is installed on a desktop or laptop computer and flashes the tars from the computer to the device through the usb cable.
ADB / Fastboot - Fastbooot is what you will use to flash .img files. They are normally complete rom images, recovery's and kernels but there are a lot of other things that are flashed with fastboot. Fastboot is installed on a desktop or laptop computer and flashes the .img files from the computer to the device through the usb cable.
Custom Recovery's - Custom recovery's are used to flash zip files on your device. zip files can be used to flash full roms, kernels, recovery's just like the tar and image files but can additionally flash mods, fixes, custom tweaks and themes. The advantages are that everything is done from the device and not from a separate computer.
But this is a guide on how to flash in a custom recovery. More specifically, Clock Work Mod Recovery version 6.0.1.4. Each recovery has are slightly different but the basic things are pretty much the same. Navigation also varies between different versions. You have the touch screen and the non touch screen versions. Touchscreen is pretty self explanatory. The the non touch versions are are navigated by using the volume up and down and power to activate your selection.
On the US Versions of the Galaxy S3, recovery mode is achieved by pressing and holding volume UP, power button and the (physical) home button simultaneously while your phone is off. Watching the screen closely, release all 3 buttons as soon as you see the word Samsung. If timed correctly it will boot into recovery in about 10-20 seconds (after releasing). If you are too early or late the phone will boot normally and skip recovery.
NOTE - If you have a rom with an expanded shutdown menu, you can go directly into recovery by choosing it from the restart menu.
Caution - You should always make a Nandroid Backup of your configuration prior to flashing an unknown mod, kernel or rom.
NOTE - The first screen you see when starting cwm I will call the home menu and is the starting point for everything in this guide.
How to perform an Nandriod Backup or Restore
Backups and restores are done in the same way.

2. Select "backup to external (or internal) sdcard".

I've been meaning to make this for a while, so here goes:
If you do have a ROM installed now that's working:
If you can, connect to a high-speed connection via WiFi, or make sure you have a good 3G signal.
If it's not included in your ROM, install ROM Manager
Open ROM Manager, and give it su access when asked.
Tap on "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery"
Tap on "HTC Evo (CDMA)" when you get the pop-up to confirm the model
Wait for the success message, and tap OK.
Tap on "Download ROM"
Scroll down to the bottom, and tap on "EVO Stock and Radios"
Tap on "Stock 3.70.651.1 Deodexed"
Tap on "Download"
Wait for the download to complete. It's 200MB, so it'll take a while (thus why I told you to get on WiFi earlier).
Tap on "Backup Existing ROM"
Tap on "Wipe Data and Cache"
Tap "OK"
Tap "OK"
Wait for ClockworkMod to Nandroid backup your current ROM, wipe your data and cache, and then flash the new ROM.
Wait for the new stock ROM to boot.
Enjoy!
If you don't have a working ROM, and your currently installed Recovery is Amon_RA (yellow text on black background with HTC logo):
Turn off phone.
Power on phone by holding Volume Down and Power.
Use the volume buttons to highlight RECOVERY, then Power to select it.
When in Recovery, enable USB-MS.
Download 3.70.651.1-rooted-deodexed-signed-teshxx.zip from goo-inside.me/supersonic/stock
Copy the ZIP file to your SD card.
Disable USB-MS
Go to the Wipe menu
Select "Wipe ALL userdata/factory reset"
Select "Wipe SYSTEM:"
Select "Wipe SDCARD:.android_secure"
Go to "Flash zip from sdcard"
Choose the 3.70.651.1-rooted-deodexed-signed-teshxx.zip file. Confirm.
Reboot once the flashing is complete.
If you don't have a working ROM, and your currently installed Recovery is ClockworkMod (orange or blue text on black background with ClockworkMod logo):
Turn off phone.
Power on phone by holding Volume Down and Power.
Use the volume buttons to highlight RECOVERY, then Power to select it.
When in Recovery, go to the Mounts and Storage menu, then select "mount USB storage".
Download 3.70.651.1-rooted-deodexed-signed-teshxx.zip from goo-inside.me/supersonic/stock
Copy the ZIP file to your SD card.
Delete the .android_secure folder on your SD card if it's there.
Unmount USB storage
Select "format system"
Select "format data"
Select "format cache"
Go to "install zip from sdcard"
Select "choose zip from sdcard"
Choose the 3.70.651.1-rooted-deodexed-signed-teshxx.zip file. Confirm.
Reboot once the flashing is complete.
I have looked and searched, but have not found one. Some [ROM] threads have instructions, some don't.
I came from an Incredible, which had a removable SD card, and I am worried about what commands will do to the internal memory on the GN with its "integrated" SD...
Taken from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1400871 (which is a sticky in the CDMA Dev forum)
"3. FLASHING A ROM, RADIO OR KERNEL VIA CWM RECOVERY
a. Download your chosen Rom, Radio or Kernel from the Development Forum, then make sure your phone is booted up as normal and connect your usb cable so it goes into MTP Mode. Copy the .zip file (DO NOT UNZIP IT FIRST) to the 'Internal Storage' part on your phone. Do not copy it to a Sub Directory as it will be harder to find when flashing it.
b. Enter CWM Recovery by first entering the Fastboot mode Screen (Disconnect the usb cable (if you have one plugged in), then shut down your phone. Keep holding the 'Volume Up' and 'Volume Down' buttons and press the 'Power' button to boot the phone into FastBoot Mode), then select 'Recovery mode' by pressing the 'Volume Down' button and then press the 'Power' button to enter CMW Recovery..
c. Scroll down to 'Install zip from sdcard' and select. Then select 'choose zip from sdcard'.
d. Scroll to your Roms' zip file and select. Then scroll down to 'Yes' in the list and select to start flashing the Rom.
e. When flashing is finished select 'Go Back' until you get to the Main Menu and then select 'reboot system now' to reboot your phone into Android."
While that thread does include some instructions, it makes no mention of any wipe at all, which conflicts with many other threads.
Well, make a nandroid and then wipe before flashing the ROM...simples

Since the nandroid would be stored on the sdcard, which is a part of the data folder, my concern is that wipe data will erase the sdcard and the nandroid...
Wipe in CWM only deals with ROM data, it doesn't touch the SD card partition
Hi,
Are they the same?
I would like to install [ROM][4.0.4]MooDeD JB-ICS 101.0 [AROMA][OTA][JBApp][xSuperChargeV7][MooDeDApp][Ultra]
He doesnt say anything about is it for Arc or Arc S
Other thing - He doesnt say anything about, do I need unlocked bootloader - is installation this Custom ROM so simple? (for my new Arc S - newer modded)
Transfer the zip file you downloaded above to your internal sdcard (not the external micro SD).
Turn off the phone, then boot into recovery mode. For this, press and hold Menu Button Until CWM screen shows up: Volume Button.
Phone will boot into CWM recovery. Use volume keys to scroll up and down between options and Volume Rocker key to select an option.
Perform a wipe:
Select “wipe data/factory reset”. Then select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. (This will not touch your SD cards so don’t worry).
Go to “advanced” and then select “wipe dalvik cache”, then select “Yes” on next screen. Now, go back to main screen of recovery.
Select “mounts and storage”, then select “format system”. Select “Yes” on next screen to confirm. Go back to main recovery menu after system format is complete.
Then, select “install zip from sdcard”, then select “choose zip from sdcard”. Then, browse to the file you transferred to the sdcard in step 2 and select it.
Confirm installation on the next screen by selecting the option ”Yes — Install MooDeD ICS.zip“. The ROM will now start installing.
After installation is complete, select “go back” then select “reboot system now” to reboot the phone.

Thanks in advance for help
Arc & Arc S firmwares, ROMS, basebands etc. can be used for each of the phones for e.g. flash and LT15i rom on an LT18i, all it is basically is the build.prop changing the model of your phone which can be easily changed back to your phone model by editing the build.prop
its always best to unlock the bootloader just encase

I was using these steps
How to Install a Custom ROM on Galaxy Grand:
The procedure of installing a custom ROM using ClockworkMod Recovery is almost the same for all Android phones. You just have to follow a few steps and it is done!
All custom ROMs come in zip and have md5 checksum signature that tells your device that it was downloaded successfully and does not miss anything. So download the ROM file in zip and copy it to you phone, preferably to the external SD card.
If you have downloaded an AOSP or CyanogenMod based custom ROM, you’ll also have to install the Google apps after flashing the ROM. Download the latest Google Apps zip package to install via CWM here. Copy this file to your phone too.
Now boot your phone into recovery mode. Here is the method: press and hold Volume Up + Home + Power buttons at the same time till the Samsung logo with device name blinks for 2 times. Then release the Power key while keeping other keys pressed till you see the recovery menu with “ClockwrokMod Recovery” written on the top. In Recovery mode, use the volume keys to scroll and the power key to select options.
Important: Go to “backup and restore” option and backup your current ROM to the external SD card.
When backup is complete, go back to main menu and “wipe data/factory reset”.
Then go to “advanced” and “wipe dalvik cache”.
Go back and select “mounts and storage” and “format system”.
Return to main menu and select “install zip from sdcard> choose zip from sdcard”, navigate to the ROM zip file and select it.
When the ROM is installed, also install the Google apps zip package, if applicable, using Step 8.
Finally, return to main menu and select “reboot system now”.

I fixed the problem actually. I restored my backup and redownloaded it as you said. And voila. Also Land scape does not work properly.
