[Q] Flash radio to different Note 2 variant - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I was wondering, if I purchased a U.S. Cellular Note 2 (SCH R950) could I flash a T-Mobile radio to it to get AWS 3G support? Or for any radio flashing to any other Note 2 variant for that matter.
Thanks!

I'm interested in this as well! Can we flash the Sprint Radio to an SCH-R950? I understand that the ESN won't be in Sprint's pool...

I doubt it. U.S. Cellular is a CDMA network, not GSM like T-Mobile.

I didn't mention GSM like the OP. I asked about Sprint and US Cellular, both of which are CDMA.

Well I've read about other people's speculation that all GN2's contain hardware available for provisioning to any network. Be it CDMA or GSM.

Any info about can we do or not?

Try it.
If you brick it please share.

As in Windows Phone 7? Uh, NO!!
Yep you can!! But it'll only run Internet Explorer 6, the only game is Minesweeper and you can only get dial-up mobile service through CompuServe or AOL on a 5 year contract (Search keyword '30FreeHours')...

He/she means MetroPCS, which is CDMA/LTE.
Short answer: No.
Long answer: MetroPCS is on a different frequency for LTE than Verizon so at best, you will get CDMA and voice, but I wouldn't count on even that.

Hmmmm... The GNEX is a PENTABAND phone though so wouldnt that mean it should work on the MetroPCS network? What are the Metro bands?

The GSM version is pentaband. This is not GSM.
The CDMA Nexus supports these bands:
2G Network CDMA 800 / 1900
3G Network CDMA2000 1xEV-DO
4G Network LTE 700 MHz
MetoPCS is the same as above, except:
4G Network LTE 1700 MHz

Well... Seeing as I am on a GSM Network I have never needed to research the CDMA/LTE version of the device and all documentation I have ever seen just simply listed it as a "pentaband" device so sorry if I got it wrong... lol...

Well there are 2 devices to follow lol. One GSM and one CDMA. The CDMA model obviously will not have a pentaband LTE radio in it, as its made to specifically work on Verizon.

So Verizon is the ONLY CDMA/LTE version of the GNEX? I did not realize that either if that is the case.
I just keep on learning... Lol...

Yes. The CDMA/LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus was made specifically for Verizon USA. It is not sold or able to be used anywhere else in the world (except under Verizon roaming plans in specific markets).
That's wrong. MetroPCS is listed as a provider for the phone, so I assume they will include a radio that supports them (after the crappy VZ only 90 day embargo)..
Soooo... then you can flash the GSM version??? Is anyone working on a ROM for this?

How would you flash the GSM version, when we JUST STATED that Metro runs on CDMA networks? Learn to READ.

No...you are wrong.
No radio flash changes the frequencies of internal radios.
So once again, can the Verizon model be flashed to MetroPCS and have everything working?
--No, it cannot.
I realize this is an incredibly old thread, but we don't need confusion filling the forums for those who search.
CDMA Galaxy Nexus cant be flashed unless you can find a way to connect as a DIAG PORT.... I tried already flashing a Verizon Galaxy Nexus Over To PagePlus Cellular and i couldnt find a way to connec to CDMA Workshop....
So like other people posted before it cannt be flashed to MetroPCS

It works great, but only shows 3G for AT&T, no 4G as it shows when it's on T-Mobile sort of 3G/4G network..
Actually quite honestly, I don't see much difference in 4G/3G difference is there when we go to LTE

Can International S3 Work on Tmo's LTE?

can the international version of the S3 work on tmobile's LTE network?
No. S3 is not compatible with tmobile LTE and international version will only get Edge not even 4g
It may or It may not. Look at the tmobile's LTE bands and look at the international S3 bands if they the same it can. Also now that tmobile have the 1900 band and the iphone can get 3g. I think that now most of international phones with tmobiles 4g/3g

No. And worse it will only do 2G on the T-Mobile network until after the frequency realignment. Then it "might" be able to do HSPA+, but perhaps not.
LTE... Never.

T-mobile S4 on AT&T network not getting LTE

I have an unlocked Galaxy S4 T-Mobile version but when I put AT&T SIM it doesn't get LTE. I thought the T-Mobile version had compatible LTE with AT&T. I have entered the right APN for AT&T though, anyone can help?
Have you tried to install the AT&T modem?

Make sure your account has the 4g lte package. When you login to your att account should say like.
Data pro 4g lte.
If it says data pro 4g. Its not going to give you lte.
You need to have the imei of an att lte phone on your account then it will work.
I am sure that my data plan has LTE, I took it out my iPhone5 and I got LTE on my iPhone5. I have enabled the LTE and put the right APN. Still no data connection, I have not flashed it to a different modem. So what's wrong?
How to select the right LTE band? I have only select the "Network mode" to LTE/GSM/WCDMA(auto connect). and APN is that all?

Not to bash or anything, but I don't see why people try to use a phone for one carrier on another. Why not just sell (or trade?) your unlocked T-Mobile S4, for an AT&T S4?
You can still get retail price for the phone if it's in great condition. Then you wouldn't have this issue.
To me, I don't think whether it supports the same bands matter. Use T-Mobile on T-Mobile, AT&T on AT&T, Sprint on Sprint, so on and so forth.
Just my two cents.

its my understanding that the T-Mobile version is boot loader unlocked so they aren't all the same. I'm looking to do the same thing as the OP here soon once I research what if any implications there really are at the end of the day.

Yeah, for LTE bands, AT&T version has less bands due to their spectrum restriction: 700 MHz (Band 17), AWS, IMT, IMT-E, while the T-Mobile version have all bands: 700 MHz (Band 17), CLR, AWS, PCS, IMT, IMT-E

Incorrect-all AT&T LTE phones support Band 4 and Band 17-AT&T is predominately Band 17 and has a small Band 4 footprint. T-Mobile's entire LTE footprint is Band 4. The real issue with a TMO S4 is whether or not you can roam on AT&T LTE network when no native T-Mobile network exists-especially since T-Mobile switched many of their legacy plans with put a serious limit or outright block on data roaming.

ahh ok. But with the case of getting of carrier unlocked and running a sim from att you're still fine right? Have to figure this out next if say someone gets the T-Mobile one, carrier unlocked can you install the myatt app from the play store or does it get blocked some how saying you aren't on a supported device?

Unlocked AT&t GS3??

Just was wondering if an Unlocked AT&T samsung galaxy s3 would work on T-mobile?? I think it would as the frequency's are the same. Also would AT&T samsung galaxy s3 get t-mobile LTE???
Sounds like a dumb question. What I'm asking: would at&t GS3 work on t-mobile LTE as the frequency's look the same?? Of course if I have T-Mobile LTE in my area. And also the AT&T GS3 is unlocked but, It was AT&T with LTE 700MHZ,1700MHZ and 2100MHZ.
Thanks

If you're in a T-Mobile refarmed area (1900Mhz), then you will get HSPA+ with an unlocked AT&T S3. Also, if I remember correctly, T-Mobile LTE uses Band 4, the same band as AT&T. So if there is LTE coverage in your area, you should get LTE connection, provided your APNs are set correctly.
