How to get more apps? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

So i just got a new Samsung galaxy nexus (first smartphone) and I checked out the app store (Play Store) and i noticed there are barely any apps for games. Does anyone know how to get or find more apps? I saw on some videos with people with a ton of games for their nexus.
Do i need to upgrade to 4.2 or something?

Google Play Store...How to get it on your device now.

Found these instructions on Phandroid and thought I would share them with everyone. Worked like a charm for me. This will get rid of the Android Market app/icon on your phone and replace it with the Google Play Store.
1. Install or update to the latest version of Play Books, Play Movies, or Play
Music
2. Navigate to Settings > Apps > Market and hit “Clear data”
3. Open Play Books, Play Movies, or Play Music
4. Tap the Play Store icon and accept new terms of service
5. Welcome to the Google Play Store
Much easier way. Just clear data on market and uninstall updates, then after you open the market it updates to Play.
too bad you still cant rent any movies if you're rooted.
Yes u can bro.. Temp unroot ota keeper

so whats the difference with the play market and how the music market was before....looks the same to me, except for a few new squares like play beats and play guitar......other than that its the same.
well that was a waste...the version number isn't even different despite a new TOS message. Either this doesn't work for the update or they just rebranded the old Android Market.

I followed the steps exactly as above and at first wasn't able to access the Android Market app anymore, it said it doesn't exist. I shut my phone off, turned it back on and I had a new app called Play Store. This app replaces the Android Market App.

It's pretty much the same ,Google Music, Google eBookstore, and the Android Market were combined to form Google Play. You can purchase music, movies, books, and apps at play.google.com, but those items will also be stored in the cloud. You'll be able to do the same thing on your Android phone or tablet using the various Google Play apps. More info below.

did it without clearing data for the market, just updated play music and hit the market button in it and it updated to play (market?).
Or you could just download this.
You will most likely have to reboot after installing it like I did.

Samsung Apps Store for CM10 SG3?

Hi guys, I've been seaching for a .apk of the Samsung Apps Store since I've heard that Shadowgun and Asphalt 7 are free on it and I want to get those games badly. I've searched a little bit around about the Samsung Apps Store on a rooted device and I think it's only compatible on TW-based ROMs so CM10 might have some problems. Any ideas on how to get the .apk of Samsung Apps Store for a ROM that's not TW-based? Or if there's a way to get the Shadowgun and Asphalt 7 .apk's for Sg3 for free.
Any luck?
G.Anthony. rooted GS3!
It was the very first hit on my Google search.

I don't see the GSIII listed as being compatible, but I'd be surprised it it didn't work anyways?

Video maker on the note 2 n7005???

Hi all,
I am getting my note 2 4G n7005 in 8 days.
I have googled this, but no one can give a definitive answer.
I have a galaxy s2, and I really like the video maker app on it.
Can anyone confirm if the note 2 has this app, if not, is it available from the Samsung app store for the note 2 (I know it's in the Samsung app store, but can anyone confirm if it can be installed on the n2).
If the answer is no to the above, is it possible to extract the apk from a s3 and put it in system apps on the note 2? Or will it just force close?.
I just really need someone to confirm this.
Thanks
Cheers
Corey

Short answer: it doesn't come with a video editor app installed (although you can trim videos).
This thread has an apk to a video editor (which might be the one on the s3).
I installed it and it should have everything you need. I did notice that it did ask for loads of permissions (some of which I would think aren't needed), but maybe this was just the way the apk was ripped.
Anyway, I installed it, checked it out (looks good) and then uninstalled it (I don't really need it and I was a little bit worried about the permissions).

There is a video editor app in the Samsung apps store which I have installed and it works fine.
However, it doesn't support mp4 files which the slo-mo camera produces

From the icon, that looks to be the same video editor as the one I linked to.
EDIT: Also, strangely, I am nearly sure that app wasn't there 2 days ago when I checked on the samsung apps on my phone! The version date is marked 16th November, so I wonder if they only recently added support for galaxy note 2.

Maybe - I had a similar thing with Plants vs Zombies. One day it wasn't in the Play store and the next it was. Must have forgotten to press a switch

If your note is rooted, will the...

Google play store allow the rooted user to watch rented movies on the google video app? If no, then what are some possible workarounds to this issue, ie alternate video apps. I havent gotten a note 2 yet but in the htc thunderbolt forums there is a script that one can use to be able to watch google play movies in the google video app. Is there such a script for his device?

Being rooted shouldn't affect any of Google services. Only services that (potentionally) might be affected by rooting your phone is Samsung services (in my case, OTA updates, Samsung backup don't work). However, others like Samsung apps and Samsung Dive weren't affected. In my opinion, since there are much better alternatives to OTA updates and Samsung backup, I don't see that as a reason not to get the immense benefits from rooting your device.
I ask because on my current device, I'm unable to watch rented movies using the google play video app. I would only be able to watch it via web browser through the online play store. But thanks for your input.

[Q] Roku streaming from Android Smartphone

Roku has recently updated and app for Android to include local streaming of video files. I, however cannot utilize it because my Galaxy Nexus is not supported. I do not know why it's not supported.
As of this date of writing, per the Google Play website the app supports:
Samsung Galaxy SIII
Samsung Galaxy S4
Nexus 4
HTC One, and
Nexus 7 (2012 model)
I would like to know if there is a way for a rooted Galaxy Nexus to benefit from the app update. I was thinking about build.prop, but I don't want to have to change it back when I'm done using the app.
Thoughts?
Friendly bump.
you would need someone to pull it down in apk form and give it to you, which it might not work.
OR
ask whoever wrote the app to update for the GN
But the likelihood that the app is written specifically for each device would be low, versus the app poling the device to see what it is, and then given the additional features, right?

Shows compatible for my toroplus (in google play). Still showing for you as incompatible? I wouldn't mind sending you the .apk if you want to try it? Are you using a custom dpi for your ROM? I noticed that if I picked anything but 240 or the standard 320 for my gnex, many apps in google play would show up as incompatible.
