[Q] Recommendations for ROMs - HTC One X

So I've had CM10 for about 3 weeks now, and I can't say I'm terribly impressed.
Sure, it was Jelly Bean and had Google Now, and was fairly fluid and all that. But there are definitely issues, including occasional freezing (and even a couple of random reboots), a 'scheduled' alarm that requires me to constantly switch it back on every night, and camera photos that for some reason don't show up (just a blank image). But the worst thing, by far, is the terrible battery life. I don't know why, but for some reason my phone refuses to last even a full day since installing CM10. I don't know what the hell CM10 is doing to kill my battery, but it is.
All of which is a round-about way of saying that I am ready to move on. I know there are a lot of ROMs out there, but I was wondering which ones are worth it.
Any recommendations? And would the process for loading these ROMs be the same as it was for CM10, i.e. flash it from the 'fastboot' recovery thingy?
(Alternatively, if other ROMs are actually worse than CM10, then can someone tell me how to go back to Sense?)

All require the commands for fastboot. Aosp roms are quality cams not as good. Don't go sense yet try miui then at least you've tried them all

What is "cams"? I tried Googling it but couldn't find anything. MIUI looks like it might be a pretty heavy ROM? And I'm not sure about the whole idea of not having an app drawer.
What other AOSP ROMs are there? Is there some place where I can check out the various alternatives? Is CM10 an AOSP?

CM10 is based on aosp.
Also try ice cold jelly.

Im wondering this same question... tried few CM10 based roms --> bad battery, freezing, errors etc.
now im having sense based rom, and market doesnt work, cool aint it?
dont like the ui look of sense at all, messy and disturbing.
im just wondering if theres any fully STABLE CM9, maybe CM7 roms? dont really care about these google now, nfc etc..
and dont say me to change to iOS, thats not a solution.
Good luck searching for ROM!

I love my Sense ROMs, so I've actually reflashed the stock software. I've tried the CM10, ARHD 17 (Good sense ROM), Paranoid android (A very interesting ROM, may not give the best experience but it's certainly very unique in its own respect) Also, check out the new Blade ROM, apparently it's super smooth and amazing battery life. I have to delve into it myself, but perhaps you could share your experience?

I want to switch to an AOSP rom because NFC media sharing doesn't work on stock roms,
But I'm worried about all those bugs in AOSP roms ...
do you guys recommend switching or staying on stock????????????????????????????????

Well i can recommend ARHD 17.1, if u can stand looks of sense UI.
After installing apex launcher and holo locker (JB style locker) i managed to make it good looking for me. And its very smooth scrolling etc (AFTER APEX)... on sense it was as laggy as stock.
PS. im not sure if NFC media sharing works cause i wont need it but you can allways make sure of it:
-> [ROM] Android Revolution HD 17.1 | High Quality & Performance | Sense 4+ | BEST STOCK
:good:

I just flashed to Liquid JB from ViperX and am pretty happy so far... Also ViperX was awesome, with tons of customizable features. :good:

what about Slim Bean for the HOX, anyone got good expierience with that ROM ?

Slim beans a great Rom. Same story though with the camera if not overly fussed about it though. Great rom

thanks ! Seems ROMs are like women, so many are beautiful but you have to pick the lesser evil for you

Try ICJ AOKP. It has a lot of customization and its very stable.

How much worse the camera on AOSP/AOKP vs Sense roms?
Both Still and VIdeo quality, less options? Whats the problem?

It's not tragic. You will notice it though. You have to try really

But still can you explain a bit please?
The quality is worse? the features? what exactly is the difference?

Okay the quality isn't as good. In low light or dark the flash makes a green tint on your picture. Though loads use it still give it a try

First ROM ever ... Absolution?

I want to flash my first ROM ever and ive been trying to read a bit and decide on the most appropriate ROM for me. I want something fast and with a good battery life and from what Ive been reading Absolution seems to offer both these things really well. One thing I dont think im willing to give up right now however is the ability to sync facebook images and information onto my contacts. Do Absolution and other Cyanogen based ROMS allow us to do that? Any one with any other suggestions that you think may be easier for me to handle for a first ROM? Also, is there a way for me to backup my current stock rooted ROM so I go back to it in case I dont like CM?
If you want cyanogenmod based ROMs, for me blackICE ROM is the best by far.
If you want to stick to official releases for our DHD, Android Revolution or wait for LeeDroiD to update his ROM
If your want sense 3.5, in my opinion SmartDroiD is my ROM of choice,it really is the best ROM I've ever used, but there is ER3BUS ROM and RcMiX Runny. Currently I'm on ER3BUS as I wanted to test it and I've ended up loosing my USB cable so I'm stuck atm but I will be returning to SmartDroiD soon as I can.

Lol, just thinking out of the box here.why not just download the ROM on your phones browser and then flash it? I've had a desire for 2 years and think out of the 1000 times I've flashed, only 3-5 of those roms was put on there from my computer..

Yea, when you first install a custom ROM after making your choice, obviously you will have clockwordmod recovery on the phone. From here you can do backups (referred to as nandroid backups) you can also initiate this from ROM manager.
Good luck intrepid Modder.
Also my recommendations are
Sense - Android Revolution HD. It's stock Sense look and feel with good battery life and amazing support, practically 24hour.
AOSP - CM7 - Again amazing support and a great experience. It can link your FB profile pics, but don't expect and decent resolution.
Bleeding Edge - LC ICS Beta 4.5 - Great if you want to try the new flavour of Android but really not for the new modder.
Thanks a lot for the help guys. Knowing that I can back up my stock rom is particularly comforting. Im hoping il have enough time this weekend to get around to doing this. By then Il make sure to look around for some videos of each of those ROMs in order to better choose my first
I feel that Absolution and Blackice are roughly on par with each other, and both are excellent. I'm very curious about Wilkyyy's reasoning...
If your only serious criteria are speed and battery life, the Oxygen 2.3.2 port can't be beaten IMHO. It has far fewer "options" than the former two ROMs though, and there is no CM7-style theming. If you use an alternate launcher like Go, though, then this isn't really an issue or even very relevant.

Everyone will tell you what they think is the best rom out there. It is all a matter of opinion and taste. I would suggest watching the threads and see which ones are up to date with features that are appealing to you and try them each out for a few days/hours/minutes etc until you settle into one that makes you happy. There are tons of quality roms and many that are inactive as far as development too. Just be sure to back up your go to or stock rom before experimenting.
i would say virtuous affinity-v1.48.0 its fast and dont use much battery
i think you can use mybackup pro to backup your stock rom
but i think you need to root it first
Don't think twice, perfect ROM for DHD is Android Revolution HD™ 6.3.1.

How's that, chief? You can use launcher themes to change the look of your phone interface, if you're really "into" that kind of thing. Yeah, sure, your settings menu won't change, but if you're gonna lose sleep over that, then your problems run much deeper in my opinion.
Another alternative for Oxygen is the kitchen, which has already been done by at least one user.

Android Revolution and Absolution are my two favorites... Can't go wrong with either and you get a mix of flavors, Sense (ARHD) and CM7 based (Absolution). I randomly switch between these two but Absolution has more development and updates happening than does ARHD.
thanks i tried absolution ... amazing but the one true downfall has been horrible wifi ... will try a new radio and see if that fixes things though

Here's a few ROMS I've tried.
RD-MIUI - It's beautiful, but it was pretty slow for me, don't get me wrong, but I love the speed and snappiness a nice AOSP ROM offers.
AOKP - Great ROM, but gives me Wifi issues, sometimes it connects, most times it doesn't, it's a hit and run.
RENOVATE - Pretty nice, but slow too, keyboard was lagging and the transition animations were lagging a little bit too.
Slim ICS - I loved this ROM, I think this one had a battery line at the top, which was on the whole top screen, very easy to see how much you have left, very fast too, I'm not sure why I changed from this ROM.
Cyanogenmod 9 - First time I flashed this it gave me random freezes and FC's, but the second time it's being a beast, great rom, but this one has Wifi issues to, but not as much as AOKP had.
Android Revolution HD - What can I say, pretty much the most stable ROM I've tried yet, it's sense though, and if you want something very fast and snappy this one is not for you.
I'm guessing you are now on the stock one with Sense, so you probably haven't experienced the speed of an AOSP ROM on your One X, I suggest you either get CM9, Slim ICS or AOKP, I'm using CM9 now and I've had no issues yet except for the Wifi, but that was last night and today Wifi connected for me without any problems.

I don't want AOKP, I bought this phone for Sense 4.0. No I'm running InsertCoin and I'm really impressed. The ''recents'' button is menu button, very usable. No lags, but no 3D rosie. Otherwise, the ROM is good.

[Q] hard to beat ARHD

Rooted my DHD a month or so ago and havent looked back since,,,
Tried a few different roms but for me i feel ARHD is still the best quality ,, everything works well, camera, audio, battery, speed etc etc
I really want to use jellytime (or icecoldsandwich for that matter) but feel its not quite as stable or dependable YET,,, do you think the camera issues along with a few other niggles will ever be sorted ?
Ice cold is pretty much 100% stable. JellyTime does have problems at times but its nothing a battery pull can't fix
Sent from PACman'd Desire HD
hows the camera in ice cold ? the picture quality is great on ARHD
Me too
I'm in the same boat. Happy with ARHD but been looking at others like Trickdroid, Jellytime, Pacman, Cosmic Sandwich etc, they all seem to have niggles like wifi tether or MMS or little camera issues.
If only HTC would release the ICS source for our device so developers could work without their hands tied behind their backs.
I'd love to move to ICS but the "what do I gain?" question doesn't have a good answer really.
Personally I'm using Sabsa Prime and the only non-fully-feature I can pick out with little bugs are the camera, namely hdr and panorama features don't work. Every else about the rom is brilliant in my eyes and still being developed. I use a different camera apk so don't have any real issues at all. Some posts I've seem refer to arrows not showing on keyboard (even though it's an option in the installer) but I use SwiftKey keyboard which is much better and arrows work with that.

I was also on ARHD until about a week ago because, like you, I was looking for a fully functional Rom with no issues. I finally took the leap and flashed Trickdroid, took me a little while to get it set up, but running great now, not found any problems so far and seems to run just as fast if not quicker. Worth a try if you've got the time just make sure you have a backup ready

is the camera on trickdroid as good as arhd ?
I too enjoyed ARHD for a long time and it is a great rom indeed. Only thing better I found is XGS Série's. Somehow it manages to make battery life even greater than ARHD.
I do admit I like sense, tried TrickDroid too and loved it, but battery life takes priority... Still, both ARHD & TrickDroid are both great roms also :good:

Okay well I might give them a go. I have a Nandroid backup(Apps+Data) I made with EXT4 touch Recovery.
Just on that, if I use the restore backup function, will my exact setup be restored? So, ARHD with all my apps and and settings etc? Just like rolling a full system image back on?
I have copied the backup to my computer as well to be safe.
Me too,
still living with ARHD 6.3.3 from Mike with several mods ...
for camera issues to improve performance, I also applying 0% compressing+720p video mod.
And use Camera360_ version 2.5.5 is for stable of capturing pictures, default stock camera for record video.
For the first time I use dhd, I'm using Android revolution, it's great for speed, camera etc.. but sometimes bored with standard visual, then I try CM7 but the camera was not hopefully for me.. No I'm using back android revolution...

I think the two are comparable. It's a little hard to call, because I had ARHD on for a while and wasn't "playing" with it as much so battery seemed great, but since flashing Sabsa Prime 8.5, with it's Sense 4.1 lite and all the beautiful animations etc I tend to muck around on it a fair bit, even still battery life is great.
It's definitely the best ROM I have tried thus far. (Well for me anyway)

So any roms fully functional?

So my upgrade is coming up on November 1st, and I will be looking into getting a new phone in the near future, and I am finally done waiting for this ICS update that isn't coming from HTC. I was wondering if there are any fully functioning roms for the Incredible 2, or if anyone can tell me the one that is closest to fully working. Of course looking for something ICS or above and appreciate any suggestions on where I should begin...

I have not tried Psycho's CM9 Global yet, but I hear it is pretty much fully functional except for the FFC is upside down or something...I have tried their CM10 Global and it is a smooth running rom, just a couple of little bugs they are working out. Mimicry CM9 based rom is almost fully functional...only thing not working that I know for sure is the FFC. Those are the only roms I have tried recently. I have also read that the Viper Sense rom is pretty good too, but it is Sense 4. I prefer the Paranoid Android, but there are some camera issues with it and a couple of other small bugs that don't affect me that much so I never notice them. Other than that I am out of suggestions, I have not tried UKB, MIUI, or any of the other roms that I hear are great roms.

I started with aeroevan's CM9 ROM and it was terribly slow and pretty buggy. I had to reboot it at least once a day. I'm now running Psycho's CM10 Global and it's actually been really great, aside from the nonfunctional FFC, graphic tearing with Chrome, and unstable Bluetooth. Also, the CM10 Global ROM has an issue where after locking the phone it will take 1-2 seconds before allowing you to unlock again.

IC Tazz has been flawless for me. I tried CM9 and CM10 for a few weeks, they work pretty good but are not 100%.
I'm using the new viper Rom. In the past I've always preferred sense tho. Viper is nice. But I prefer my own non sense widgets. So my phone basically looks the same as it did when running cm10. So I'm not sure what the point of staying on viper. Must say battery life is impressive, especially for a sense Rom. Battery life was one reason why I hated sense. But then my phone doesn't really look like sense anyways since I'm using all the same widgets as I did w aosp. *confused*

Haha, I can understand that. I've only been around this one for the past few months. Seriously, thanks for the reminder. I won't forget next time haha
for an ics rom, i gotta say viper sense is the most bug-free. both the ffc camera and rear cameras work fine, and you can shoot fine in 720p HD recording, a problem with many other roms.
this was one of the main problems i had with most CM's and aosp roms was that the stock camera sucked. it didnt even compare to the sense camera and pictures looked they were taken with a basic phone. the viper sense camera was great, maybe even better than stock.
as for bugs, i think the only thing was that taking a picture while recording didnt work, i dont think its supposed to though cuz the inc2 isnt designed for it? also for some reason after a reboot it changed from cdma to gsm, and i think the only way to change that it running the aroma installer again.
I'm no expert or developer but there is quite a few Roms that I have found a pretty stable that could be used as a daily driver with no problem. If you're not rooted I recommend trying it and giving some Roms a test run and seeing what you like before ditching your inc2 its a whole new experience.

Sadly nit had to pull the ViperINC ROM earlier today due to virtuous teams request... Regarding the use of m10 I think...
Was just about to download and finally move on from GB too...

are you serious?! i wanted to download that as soon as i got near some reliable wifi. (there's none available where i live so i use wifi tethering)
Fully functional eh? Both dkstunna and Aerovans cm9 & 10 both run nicely. Just have to make some changes depending on your carrier but youll find the solutions by reading the threads. But don't forget most roms are like that woman in the red light district. She's pretty and fun and can do a lot but there is also something under that skirt that is fully functional.

It's been a pretty solid experience for a few months now.
Condemned Sense's Stock Build Odexed.
Depends on your definition of "fully-functional." For me that means everything that the stock ROM has including FFC, rotating softkeys, 720P camcorder, wifi-tethering, etc. Most of the ROMS listed (excluding stock ROMS) so far have issues with at least one of these things. I don't consider a mentality of "living with minor bugs" consistent with "fully-functional."
Personally my list would include:
- any of the the "standard" Sense 2.1 Gingerbread ROMs like GingerSense, SkyRaider Zeus, etc. (they all use the official 2.65 kernel specifically built for GB)
- Arctic Ascension 2.02 (aka IC Tazz 3.6) - Sense 3.6 using the leaked Chinese v3.x OTA kernel - everything including the stuff I mentioned works on it. It even includes features not even the stock ROM has such as automatic 3G switching when sending and receiving MMS messages.
Try CM 7.2, it was the first rom i flashed. the battery life is extraordinary and it runs fast like hell! only problem is its a bit old fashioned.
I'm currently running ViperSense 1.1, but its just slightly slow because its using a stock kernel
Thanks everyone for taking the time to give me this information. I have been busy but plan to look into these very soon! Much appreciation!
Miui 1.12.9 with Aerovan's 0.7 CFS kernel.

[Q] Looking for that one ROM for my HTC One X

So I am new to the XDA forum, I am not new to Android. Now however I am in a bit of a spot. Looking for that one ROM which actually works properly without bugs or stability issues. This has proven to be a rather big challenge.
Almost every single ROM I have looked up, either on this forum or other forums, has issues. Most of them are seen as minor, but for my part, the lack of WiFi or USB tethering is not acceptable. Nor are those small bugs which makes apps crash from time to time.
So I am looking for a ROM with offers me the pure Android experience, so no Sense UI, with a few custom tweaks like battery indicator removal and the like. The ROM should be OTA compatible and based on Android 4.2.2.
I have looked all the big ROM's and many of the smaller ones. And like I write earlier, they all seem to have issues that makes renders them a defect product in my eyes. It is my no means easy to create a custom ROM, and all the hard work that developers put in to it, that I will praise :good:
But since I am looking for a complete product that take run my HOX until a new Android phone worth having comes out, stability issues, app craches, sluggishness and so on, are not acceptable.
It is a tall order I realise, but I figures that there is nothing lost by posting this thread. So are there anyone out there who knows an custom ROM?
AOKP and CM both have WiFi tethering and USB tethering working fine. I've been using CM since its alpha days, never had something not working that bothered me (meaning that i don't use MHL or FM radio, both of which don't work iirc. Any AOSP-based rom won't have them working.)

I have downloaded the CM 10.1 M3 release, thought about installing it, it also comes with OTA updates, for some people at least, by the time the stable release version comes out, it should work for all users.
But I could not find any information regarding the possibilities of tweaking the notification bar. Do you have the option of modifying or removing the battery indicator?

You can modify it to show icon, icon+percentage, circle and circle+percentage, as well as hidden.

I have a beautiful battery widget, which looks much much better then any other, still hoping that the developer will add moving it to the right side for root users. So I want the default one hidden. So another question would be, if you hide it, does it leave an empty space, or do the other right-side indicators re-align to fill that empty space, so to avoid blank space?
They fill the blank space.

I will try the CM10.1 M3 release. What about bootanimation, is there an inbuilt function for that, and if not, do you know where the bootanimation.zip file is located?
Ohh, and what's the word on Google Apps being installed directly from the Play Store?

I have already looked at Team Venom Viper X ROM. But it comes with Sense UI, and I have no use for it, not anymore. Since Android 4.0 and Holo UI, there is no need for a UI overlay, and if one really wants that, there are plenty of Launchers in Play Store.
And there are also issues with WiFi tethering.

Replace it manually in /system/media/bootanimation.zip. Really, most of these questions can be solved by just flashing CM and finding your way around it
Honestly, you can't go past Slim Bean when it comes to stability and features. It has pretty much as many features as AOKP, but it also has features from CM and some of its own unique features too. If you use Apex launcher with Slim, it's easily one of the fastest and smoothest ROMs around.
I've been using Slim Bean for a week now and i hardly EVER keep a ROM for more than 3 days because i always find small issues. With Slim Bean, performance is great, battery life is phenomenal (i got 60 hours up time with close to 4 hours of screen on time, i can attach screenies if you want), there are no outstanding bugs and it just works like it should.
With CM10.1, i always run into small issues here and there and battery life is not so great. When it comes to Ice Cold Jelly, battery life wasn't so good for me and performance was all over the place and it was rather unstable when i tried it a few versions ago.
So, Slim Bean is the absolute winner for me when it comes to ROMs without Sense. I highly, HIGHLY recommend that you try it out. Krarvind only produces very high quality ROMs.
Got your ROM?

From what I can tell, Slim Bean is running some sort of custom launcher, is that correct? Because like I wrote, I have no interest in that nor any other launcher, I just want want the stock Android Holo UI and a few additional features.
Does Slim Bean support OTA?

Sounds like CM is the way to go. SlimBean is tempting, but it uses a form of launcher other the stock one, and that holds no interest for me.
